Today we continue our study through the Book of 1 Corinthians with Chapter 12. In this chapter, Paul teaches about spiritual gifts and reminds believers that although Christians are different from one another, they all belong to one body through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit gives different gifts, abilities, and roles to believers, but every gift is meant to serve God’s purpose and strengthen the body of Christ rather than elevate individuals selfishly.

Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily lives. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Today we continue our study through the book of 1 Corinthians with chapter 12. In this chapter, Paul teaches about spiritual gifts and reminds believers that although Christians are different from one another, they all belong to one body through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit gives different gifts, abilities, and roles to believers. But every gift is meant to serve God's purpose and strengthen the body of Christ rather than elevate individuals selfishly. As I read this chapter, I'm reminded how easy it can be for people to compare themselves to others or feel like they are not important enough to matter within God's kingdom. Sometimes, people believe they have nothing valuable to offer because their gifts, personality, or calling look different from someone else's. Yet what stands out to me personally in this chapter is Paul's reminder that every believer matters within the body of Christ. God intentionally created the church so believers would need one another rather than compete with one another. This chapter also challenges me to examine whether I'm using what God has given me faithfully or whether comparison, insecurity, pride, or fear have ever kept me from serving wholeheartedly. It reminds me that spiritual gifts are not about personal recognition, they are about glorifying God and helping others grow spiritually. This chapter reminds us that believers are uniquely gifted by God and called to serve together in unity, humility, and love within the body of Christ. So let's begin reading 1 Corinthians chapter 12. Now concerning what comes from the Spirit, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols that could not speak. Therefore, I am informing you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, Jesus is cursed, and no one can say, Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person. A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial. To one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit. To another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit. To another, faith by the same Spirit. To another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit. To another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of languages, to another, interpretation of languages. But one and the same spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as he wills. For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body, so also is Christ. For we were all baptized by one spirit into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one spirit. So the body is not one part, but many. If the foot should say, Because I'm not a hand, I don't belong to the body, in spite of this, it still belongs to the body. And if the ear should say, Because I'm not an eye, I don't belong to the body. In spite of this, it still belongs to the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But now God has placed each one of the parts in one body just as He wanted. And if they were all the same part, where would the body be? Now there are many parts, yet one body. So the eye cannot say to the hand, I don't need you. Or again, the head can't say to the feet, I don't need you. But even more, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary. And those parts of the body that we think to be less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have a better presentation. But our presentable parts have no need of clothing. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable, so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other. So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. If one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it. And God has placed these in the church. First, apostles, second, prophets, third, teachers, next, miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, managing, various kinds of languages. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in other languages? Do all interpret? But desire the greater gifts, and I will show you an even better way. Let's take a moment now to pause and bring our hearts before the Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of 1 Corinthians chapter 12, and the reminder that every believer has value, purpose, and a place within the body of Christ. Lord, guard our hearts from comparison, insecurity, pride, jealousy, selfish ambition, and division. Teach us to walk with humility, unity, love, and faithfulness as we serve one another through the gifts you have given us. Help us remember that every ability, opportunity, and spiritual gift ultimately comes from you and is meant to strengthen others and glorify Jesus Christ. Strengthen every listener today who may feel overlooked, discouraged, unqualified, or uncertain about their purpose and calling. Remind us that you intentionally created each believer with unique gifts, and that every member of the body matters deeply to you. Open our hearts today to receive your truth deeply, and continue shaping us into a unified body that reflects the love and character of Jesus Christ faithfully. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body, so also is Christ. Now that we have read God's word and opened our hearts to Him in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. One powerful promise we see in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is that every believer has been intentionally gifted and placed within the body of Christ by God Himself. Paul reminded the Church that the Holy Spirit distributes gifts according to God's wisdom and purpose. That promise matters deeply because many people struggle with insecurity, comparison, feeling overlooked, or believing they have little value to offer spiritually. Yet this chapter reminds believers that every person matters within God's kingdom, and that no gift or role is meaningless in the eyes of God. Another promise in this chapter is that believers are not called to walk through life alone. God designed the church as one body where Christians support, strengthen, encourage, and care for one another spiritually. This chapter also reminds believers that unity is possible, even among people with different gifts, personalities, backgrounds, and responsibilities, because the same Spirit works through all believers. As I read this chapter, I'm encouraged by the reminder that God intentionally created every believer with purpose and value within the body of Christ. If this study is encouraging you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that they matter deeply to God and have purpose within his kingdom. The response we are called to make in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is to faithfully use the gifts and opportunities God has given us to serve others humbly. Paul explained that spiritual gifts are not given for personal recognition or selfish ambition, but to strengthen the body of Christ and glorify God. That response challenges believers because human nature often drifts toward comparison, competition, insecurity, or pride when looking at the abilities and roles of other people. Yet this chapter reminds Christians that faithfulness matters more than recognition. Another response we see in this chapter is pursuing unity and genuine care for one another within the church. Paul emphasized that believers belong to one body together and should support one another rather than compete against one another. This chapter also calls believers to value every member of the body of Christ, rather than dismissing people who seem less visible or influential outwardly. And maybe someone listening today needs the reminder that God did not accidentally place them where they are, and that their faithfulness still matters deeply within his kingdom. 1 Corinthians chapter 12 challenges us to change our attitude from comparison to contentment and gratitude. Human nature naturally compares gifts, influence, recognition, abilities, and opportunities with others. Yet Paul reminded believers that God intentionally created the body of Christ with many different parts working together. This chapter also calls us to move from pride to humility. It becomes easy for people either to think too highly of themselves or to believe they have nothing valuable to contribute spiritually. Yet both attitudes lose sight of the fact that every gift ultimately comes from God. Another attitude to change is moving from division to unity. One thing this chapter challenges me with personally is asking whether I'm fully appreciating the gifts and contributions of others, or whether comparison, insecurity, or pride have ever distorted the way I view myself or fellow believers. Yet this chapter reminds me that spiritual maturity involves serving faithfully and valuing others within the body of Christ. The instruction to obey in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is to serve faithfully and pursue unity within the body of Christ. Paul instructed believers to recognize that spiritual gifts come from the Holy Spirit and are meant to benefit others rather than promote selfish ambition. That instruction reminds Christians that serving God is not about personal status, recognition, or comparison. Another instruction in this chapter is to care for one another genuinely within the church. Paul explained that when one member suffers, the entire body suffers, and when one member is honored, the whole body rejoices together. This chapter also instructs believers to appreciate the diversity of gifts and roles God has placed within the church, rather than expecting everyone to serve in identical ways. Obedience means serving with humility, gratitude, unity, compassion, and faithfulness, while recognizing that every believer matters within God's kingdom. As we continue walking through Scripture together, my prayer is that God would continue helping us serve one another faithfully and walk together in unity through the power of His Spirit. The sin to confess in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is the sin of comparison, pride, and division. Paul addressed believers who struggled with valuing certain gifts or people more highly than others within the church. Human nature naturally drifts toward jealousy, insecurity, selfish ambition, competition, or pride when comparing ourselves with others. This chapter also confronts the sin of undervaluing the gifts and purpose God has given personally. It becomes easy for people to believe they are insignificant or unnecessary when their gifts look different from someone else's. Another sin to confess is failing to genuinely care for and support fellow believers within the body of Christ. Confession allows believers to bring pride, insecurity, jealousy, selfishness, division, comparison, fear, and spiritual discouragement honestly before the Lord, so he can continue healing and transforming hearts through his grace. As I read this chapter, I'm reminded how important it is to stop measuring worth through comparison, and instead trust the purpose and calling God has given each believer uniquely. The example to follow in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is the unity and cooperation found within the body of Christ. Paul painted the picture of many different parts working together as one body, each serving an important purpose. This chapter also gives believers the example of humility and faithful service, rather than selfish ambition or competition. Paul reminded the Church that every gift ultimately comes from the Holy Spirit and is meant to strengthen others spiritually. Another example we see is genuine compassion and care for fellow believers. Paul taught that believers should rejoice together, suffer together, support one another, and value every member of the body equally. Every time believers choose humility over pride, unity over division, gratitude over comparison, or faithful service over selfish ambition, they reflect the kind of spiritual maturity. Described throughout 1 Corinthians chapter 12. 1 Corinthians 12 reminds us that believers are uniquely gifted by God and called to serve together in unity, humility, and love within the body of Christ. This chapter challenges Christians not to become consumed with comparison, insecurity, pride, or division, but instead to faithfully use what God has given them to strengthen and encourage others spiritually. It reminds us that every believer matters deeply within God's kingdom, and that the Holy Spirit intentionally works through many different people and gifts for God's glory. Take time today to reflect honestly before the Lord. Are comparison, insecurity, pride, jealousy, or selfish ambition affecting your relationship with God or others? Have you been overlooking the gifts, opportunities, or calling God has placed within your life? And are you using what God has given you to strengthen and encourage the body of Christ faithfully? If this message encouraged you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that they have purpose, value, and a place within the body of Christ. We invite you to continue walking with us through God's Word at www.giving GodPraisePodcast.com as we grow together, book by book and chapter by chapter. As we close today's praise study, let's bring our hearts before the Lord together in prayer.
