Saved from My Own Impulses

Many of our battles are not only about what is happening around us, but about what is driving us from within. In this prayer message, we reflect on Proverbs 4:23, Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:11–13, and Psalm 46:10–11 to pray for inner victory, stillness, self-control, and deliverance from destructive impulses. This episode will encourage you to surrender your reactions, desires, body, and decisions to the Lord.

Good morning and welcome to this expression of igniting your day. This morning, I was taught something by the Spirit of God, and I believe it's important to share with you. Many times when we think about the struggles we go through, we mostly focus on external causes, we focus on people, pressure, delay, lack, disappointment, temptations, and difficult circumstances. We say if that person had not done this, or if that opportunity had not been delayed, or if this pressure had not come, uh, I would have behaved differently. And yes, external causes do exist, and I'm not denying that. But I was shown that victory often begins from the inside. If you can win from within, you will definitely have what it takes to exercise victory over what is happening around you. Before God changes what is around us, he often first delivers us from what is driving us. How do I know this? Proverbs chapter 4, verse 23 says, Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Let's also look at Mark chapter 7, verse 20 to 23. The Bible says, And he said, That which cometh out of a man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile the man. This shows us something important. The things that affect a person outwardly often have roots inwardly. The heart matters, the inward parts matter, the motives, the desires, the impulses, the fears, the thoughts and reactions within us matter. So, yes, there may be external forces, but if we can win from within, we can stand differently against those external forces. That is why I title this episode Saved from My Own Impulses. Saved from My Own Impulses. The Bible says in Proverbs chapter 20, verse 27, the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly. The spirit of God does not lie, friends. If the Lord says, check this area, then check it. If he shines light on something, pay attention. The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord searching the inward parts. That means God is not only dealing with what we do, he is dealing with what drives what we do. He searches the inward parts, the desires, the motives, the triggers, the fears, the appetites, the anger, the panic, and the impulses. And when God searches us, it is not to destroy us, it is to deliver us. So this morning, we will respond to five instructions as given by the Holy Spirit. Number one, admit you have a cross to carry and that only Jesus can save you. Yes, do not completely exonerate yourself from every situation by only blaming external factors. If there is a struggle, there is a strong possibility that you have a part to play. You may not be the principal cause, but if it is a repeated struggle, then it is wise to ask, Lord, what must be dealt with within me? Luke chapter 9, verse 23 to 24 says, And he said to them all, If any man will come after him, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it. But whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. Friends, there are two things here. First, Jesus said, Let him deny himself. Second, he said, Take up his cross daily and follow me. That means there must be self-denier and there must be consistency in following the Lord. Many of the challenges we face, yes, continue because we have not learned to deny ourselves. You may want something good, but you know, you know, you know, you do not have enough for that right now. You may desire something, but deep within, you know that if you go for it now, it may create pressure later. Can you delay that gratification? Can you deny yourself? Can you take up your cross daily and follow the Lord? This is where the prayer is. Just speak this morning and say, Lord, I desire to follow you. I follow you every day. I yield myself to your leading. Lead me on. Every day of my life, I commit myself to you. Give me the power to deny myself. Give me the grace to take up my cross daily and follow you. Yes. My dear friends, the problem is not simply that temptations come, the issue is that we have not received enough strength to say no. The issue is not always that the pressure comes frequently. The issue is not always that the attraction is around us, the issue is of the ability to say no. And there are things you have not been able to deny yourself of. I declare your liberty in Christ this morning in the name of Jesus. John chapter 8, verse 32. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. One of the greatest points of liberty is the point where you realize the truth. The day you realize that the thing you are always failing and falling for does not actually have power over you. Your liberty begins to be established. There are things people love until they know the truth about those things. There are conversations people cannot resist until they know the truth about those conversations. There are desires that continue to hold people until truth enters. So speak this morning that the Lord brings you into the knowledge of truth concerning things you have found hard to say no to in the name of Jesus. Number two, friends, say no to panic. Yes, say no to panic. When pressure comes and you enter panic mode, you have almost given yourself away. Panic pushes people into rushed decisions. Panic makes people move before the Holy Spirit gives clearance. Panic makes people think, if I do not do this now, the opportunity will close. Panic makes people act in a hurry only to look back later and say, maybe I should not, I shouldn't have done that. Or maybe I could have done it, but done it differently. Psalm 46, verse 10 to 11. The Bible says, Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Yes. The reason we can be still is that the Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. So why should I panic? When the Lord of hosts is with me, why should I panic? When the God of Jacob is my refuge, why should I panic? Why don't you declare this over your life? The Lord is exalted in my life. The Lord of hosts is with me. The God of Jacob is my refuge. I say no to panic. I say no to panic decisions. I say no to panic reactions. I say no to panic-driven choices. Yes. 1 John chapter 4, verse 4 says, Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. I declare this morning that greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. I declare this morning that greater is he that is in me than whatever is around me. I declare this morning that greater is he that is in me than the pressure trying to move me. So I say no to panic. Some of the things that make it difficult to wait for the Holy Spirit are not truly urgent. They are panic triggers. They make you feel that if you do not move now, you will lose something. But when the Lord is your refuge, you do not have to be driven by panic. There are fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, and leaders who have sacrificed so much for their families. Some have carried burdens, debts, and pressures just to make sure that their households have the best. Some are quietly saying, Lord, I have no help. I pray this morning for every person carrying such weight. In the name of Jesus, we declare you are saved. Hebrews chapter 7, verse 25 says, Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto him by God, seeing he ever living to make intercession for them. We declare this morning that you are saved completely in the name of Jesus. Number three, become untriggerable by fleshly desires. Yes, nothing should be able to carry you away, nothing should be able to make you lose your spiritual balance. The flesh should not be able to pull you so easily. The old desires should not be able to trigger you as they used to. Galatians chapter 2, verse 20 says, I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. I am crucified with Christ. Friends, that is the key. Because it is no longer I who live, I cannot be triggered by the same way. The old I has been crucified with Christ. The old I is no longer the one ruling this life. The enemy may come looking for the old version of me, but that version has been crucified with Christ. I no longer stand alone. Christ lives in me. There is now a partnership with God that governs my life. The old self did not have what it took to withstand temptation. The old self did not have what it took to resist those triggers. But now Christ lives in me. My life is not ruled by the flesh. My life is not ruled by impulse. My life is not ruled by the old appetite. Colossians chapter 3, verse 3 says, For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. The old life, the enemy is looking for is hidden. Hey, Lima's own is hidden with Christ in God. Why don't you declare this? I have been crucified with Christ. I have been crucified with Christ. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live. Christ lives in me. I cannot be triggered by same fleshly desires. No, I cannot be moved by the same old impulses. My life is hidden with Christ in God. My life is governed by the life of Christ within me. Yes, my life is governed by the life of Christ within me. Hallelujah. Number four, recover your body as an instrument of righteousness. Yes, recover your body. Recover your body. There are some assumptions that the enemy can run anything he wants through your body. But no, please, recover your body. Recover your body. When you were born again, your spirit was saved, but your body must also be brought under the authority of God. Your body must not be left as an instrument for sin, anger, lust, impulse, or unrighteousness. Romans chapter 6, verse 11 to 13. It says, Likewise, reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore lain in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies. Do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness. Present yourself to God. Present your members as an instrument of righteousness. If you are given to uncontrollable anger, recover your body. If anger rises and it feels as if the whole house should crumble, recover your body. If your mouth, your hands, your eyes, your appetite, your reactions or your habits have been given to something outside God's will, recover your body. Why don't you declare this morning? I recover my body. I recover my body from anger. I recover my body from lust. I recover my body from fear. I recover my body from impulse. I recover my body from every unrighteous use. My body belongs to the Lord. Hallelujah. Number five, tell God to hide you. Yes, tell God to hide you. Maybe there are deficiencies that are obvious. Maybe there are weaknesses you do not yet know how to handle. Maybe there are areas where you do not yet have the maturity to set boundaries properly. Maybe your children are not yet spiritually mature enough to process all these things I have said. You can declare that God hides you this morning. Psalm 91, verse 4 says, He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shall thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield and butler. Even Matthew chapter 6, verse 13 says, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Friends, this is a prayer for divine covering. It's a prayer for preservation. It's a prayer that God will not allow us to be swallowed by temptations, by pressures or impulses that are greater than our present strength. Remember, Colossians chapter 3, verse 3 says, For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Why don't you pray for your household this morning? Declare that you are hidden. My son is hidden, my daughter is hidden, my wife is hidden. Even I am hidden with Christ in God. Hallelujah. My dear friends, I do not know how you have been blessed by what you heard this morning.
