Can You Travel Light?

In this message, we reflect on Hebrews 11:5–7 and the lives of Enoch and Noah, two men who pleased God while walking in a kind of sacred aloneness. The central question is whether we are truly contented knowing that God is, and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. This episode calls believers to travel light, obey without public validation, and remain faithful even when there is no precedent or visible support.

When believing God will require you to keep moving without public validation, without social acceptance, without precedence, and sometimes without visible human support. The question is not only whether you believe God, the deeper question is, are you contented knowing that he is and that he rewards those who diligently seek him? Good morning and welcome to this expression of igniting your day. Today I want us to look at a burden from Hebrews 11 and allow the Lord to search our hearts. This morning I saw a man walking with God. But I saw that he was alone. He was alone walking with God. He was in motion, he was making progress. As he moved, he pleased the Lord, yet he was alone doing it. We are going to read the scriptures and then I will ask one question. As the Lord helps us, we will also pray. Hebrews chapter 11, verse 5 to 7. The Bible says, By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, and was not found because God had taken him. For before he was taken, he had this testimony that he pleased God, but without faith it is impossible to please him. For he who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. By faith, Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. Friends, I see two men in this passage, and between them is a truth one must never forget. Enoch pleased God, Noah obeyed God, and in both lives there is an element of aloneness. Enoch walked with God. The way the scripture describes it suggests something unique about his life. It does not present him as one among many people doing the same thing. It presents him as a man whose work with God had a distinct testimony. Noah also moved in obedience to God. It was Noah the Lord spoke to. I do not know how easy it was for Noah to convince people to walk with him. Bear in mind that nobody had built an ark before Noah. He was responding to things not yet seen. So I see two men who, in very significant ways, walked alone. And as I meditated on this, I began to ask, What must have been the fuel for these men to continue? What must have been the motivation for their progress? Despite the fact that they did not seem to have many people joining them. Hebrews 11:6 is placed in between Enoch and Noah. Hebrews 11:5 speaks of Enoch. Hebrews 11:7 speaks of Noah. But Hebrews 11:6 says, Without faith, it is impossible to please him. For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. This suggests to me that these two men believed two things. They believed that God is, they also believed that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. So the question this morning is simple. Are you contented knowing that God is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him? Many times we know this truth, but the way we live our lives does not always show that we are contented with these two convictions alone. Are you contented knowing that he is? Are you contented knowing that he rewards those who diligently seek him? If you had nothing else apart from these two convictions, would they be sufficient for you to keep moving? Would they be sufficient for you to keep making progress? If we came back in five years, would we still find you doing what you are doing today? If we came back in ten years, would we still find you doing what you claim to believe God wants you to do? Are you contented with the knowledge that He is and that He's a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him? There are many other things that could help a man continue. There is a place for social validation, there is a place for support from friends and family. There is a place for precedence, knowing that someone has done it before. But I do not know who had worked with God in a way Enoch did before Enoch. I do not see anyone recorded as building an ark before Noah. These men did not seem to have social acceptance in the way many people crave it today. They did not seem to have public validation, they did not seem to have precedent, yet they continued. They were contented with the fact that God is and that he's a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. So I ask you this morning: can you travel light? Can you travel light? Can you travel when you do not have that baggage of public validation? Can you travel light when you do not have that baggage of social acceptance? Can you travel light when you do not have that baggage of precedent? Can you know that God is and that he rewards those who diligently seek him and say that is enough for me? Can you do that? Is it enough for you to keep moving? Is it enough for you to continue? Is it enough for you to obey? Take a moment and examine your heart. See how many things the Lord has told you to do that you stopped doing or you did not even start because you did not sense public validation. Are you contented? Can you say, I am contented, knowing that God is and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him? Can you be settled in that assurance without public validation? I say again, think of the many things you know would make God happy that you should have done but you could not do. Some of the reasons were not necessarily because those things were too hard. Sometimes it was because you felt you would be alone, you felt you would look strange, you felt you would be ridiculed, you felt you would not be understood. So I'm asking you again: can you be contented knowing these two things? One, God is. Two, God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Maybe this is the time to ask the Lord for mercy concerning the things you knew you were supposed to do that would make him happy, but you wanted more. You wanted more than the conviction that he is and that he rewards. You would have loved public support, you would have loved popularity, you would have loved the crowd to follow you, but are you contented? Tell the Lord to have mercy on you this morning. Ask him to help your heart become secure in this truth? Yes. Are you contented knowing that God being with you is sufficient? Does the consciousness of God being with you make you feel wealthy enough to proceed? Does the consciousness of God being with you make you feel powerful enough to proceed? Does the consciousness of God being with you make you feel sufficient enough to proceed? Again, I ask you, can you travel light? When the baggage of public validation is not there, can you continue? When the baggage of social acceptance is not there, can you still continue? When you do not have precedents, can you still continue the journey? Can you believe God and keep moving? Let us read 1 Timothy chapter 6, verse 6 to 8. The Bible says, But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment, let us be there with content. Godliness with contentment is great gain, my friends. So I ask you again, can you travel light? When applause is not there, can you continue? When the crowd is not there, can you continue? When the attention is not there, can you continue? Does the consciousness of God being with you make you feel sufficient to continue the journey? This morning I want us to pray for all those small things we miss because we do not have company. Sometimes morning devotion in your home is missed simply because you do not have company. There are places you were supposed to go, but you did not go just because you did not have company. There are people you were supposed to talk to, but you said to yourself, How I wish somebody were beside me, I would have spoken to this person. Really? Are you contented just knowing that God is and that he is a rewarder? Are these two things sufficient for you to make you take up any task God gives you? Today, we have added many things to service, we have added many things to obedience. Because of this, some people who are serving God no longer have a clear definition of what God actually rewards. But Hebrews 11:6 is clear. He who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Is that sufficient for you? There are many Christians who are not secure enough in themselves to travel light. There are many believers who cannot travel light because the consciousness of these two facts is not sufficient for them. They know that God is, they know that God rewards, but they do not live as if that is enough. Lord, let this become enough for us. Knowing that you are God and that you have a rewarder of those who diligently seek you is enough for me. It is enough. It is enough. Brethren, think about Noah. Who taught Noah how to build an ark? No one built the ark, no one built an ark before him. Noah had divine instruction, but he did not have human precedent. Can the consciousness that God exists and that God rewards everyone who diligently seeks him, can it be enough for you? Can you be secure in the knowledge of these two facts? If you do not know anything else, if you do not have any other conviction, can this be sufficient for you to keep moving? Choose to be contented, my brother. Choose to be contented, my sister. I pray for you, I also pray for your children. Yes. May the knowledge that God is and that he is a rewarder of every diligent seeker be sufficient for you and them in the name of Jesus. Can you also pray for your family, especially your family vision? That everything the Lord expects of you, the consciousness that God is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him will be sufficient for you to proceed on that journey in the name of Jesus. I also pray for the body of Christ at large. The consciousness that God is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him is sufficient for us in the name of Jesus. Thank you, Heavenly Father. Yes, my dear friends, this is the encouragement I have for you today. Be contented knowing that God is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
