Stand straight

The greatest tragedy is not simply missing an opportunity, it is gaining everything you pursued while losing the spiritual posture God intended you to keep. Before God asks you to stand tall in this world, he first calls you to stand straight before Him. Good morning and welcome to this morning's expression of igniting your day. Many things are happening around you. Opportunities arise, pressures increase, expectations multiply, and circumstances constantly try to reshape your identity. Whether you consider yourself to be winning or not, I do not know. But there is something even more painful than missing the opportunities you are pursuing. It is to miss those opportunities and at the same time lose the spiritual posture God desires for you. Yes, you heard me correctly. There is a spiritual posture God expects you to have. Let's begin with two passages of the scripture. The first is Romans chapter 8, verse 29. For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. My dear friends, I do not know what first catches your attention in this verse, but let me share what the Lord impressed upon my heart. According to God's eternal purpose for your life, conformity to the image of his son carries greater weight than any earthly position you may attain. Many times we find ourselves worrying over what has worked and what has not worked. Many times we find ourselves worrying over what we have and what we are yet to have. Many times we find ourselves worrying over what we are pursuing that seems to be moving farther away instead of drawing nearer. But the Lord is speaking to you today. Conformity to Christ is weightier than obtaining opportunities. God places greater value on who you are becoming than on what you are obtaining. According to your calling as a believer, there ought to be a higher premium on your conformity to Christ than on the opportunities you seek in this world. So, if you are like me and there are still many things you're trusting God for, perhaps today is an opportunity to pause, an opportunity to examine your heart, an opportunity to reassess, an opportunity to ask yourself a simple question. Am I standing straight? Am I standing straight? Yes, am I conforming to the image of Christ as predestined for me by God? What does it mean to stand straight? It means ensuring that your identity remains anchored in Christ rather than in your achievements. What does it mean to stand straight? It means allowing yourself to be transformed daily into his image. What does it mean to stand straight? It means remaining conscious that you are God's workmanship wherever he has placed you to serve, knowing that he is counting on your faithfulness. What does it mean to stand straight? It means remaining committed to everything he has instructed you to do. What does it mean to stand straight? It means refusing to compromise your convictions in Christ. My dear friends, the world constantly exerts pressure for you to bend. The world constantly exerts pressure for you to compromise your convictions. The world constantly exerts pressure for you to react in fear. The world constantly exerts pressure for you to choose approval. The world constantly exerts pressure for you to really define yourself according to your circumstances. But the Lord's preferred posture for you is different. He is not leading you to become someone else. He is leading you to remain the person Christ is shaping you to be. So I empathize with you. I understand the desire that you have, which is yet to be fulfilled. I understand the disappointment of losing something you worked hard to preserve. I understand what it feels like to deserve something and not yet receive it. But even in the middle of those emotions, the Lord says to you this morning, stand straight. Stand straight. Stand straight. Have you ever considered that the impact of standing straight before God can reach generations beyond your own lifetime? Meanwhile, many of the things you are pursuing today may not even outlast your own lifetime. Joseph, the son of Jacob, stood straight. His faithfulness preserved God's covenant purpose for generations. Standing straight is the pathway to lasting is the pathway to lasting impact. My son, my daughter, stand straight. Stand straight. Now let's look at Romans chapter 8, verse 30. The Bible says, moreover, whom he predestined, these he also called. And whom he justified, these he also glorified. If you are among those whom God has predestined according to Romans chapter 8, verse 29, then this means you have been called. This means you have been justified. This means you have been glorified. So who told you that you are not doing well? Who told you there is something fundamentally wrong with you? Who convinced you that the things you are chasing determine how God sees you? Do you understand what it means to be glorified? Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Christ is the radiance of the Father's glory. That same Christ lives in you. That means there is a brightness, an illumination, and a forges within you that did not originate from this world. The fact that people continually remind you of what you are yet to have or what you are yet to achieve does not mean God sees you the same way. Even if you were the one who made that promise. Listen again, Isaiah chapter 55, verse 8 to 9. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. You are glorified in Christ. The light within you comes from him. So keep shining. My son, my daughter, keep shining. Many things are happening around you. Yes, I know that. Opportunities will come and go. Yes, I know that. Success will rise and fade. Yes, I know that. Doors will open and close. Yes, I know that. But one question remains: are you standing straight? When pressure came, did you remain in Christ? When opportunities invited compromise, did you remain in his image? When disappointment tried to define you, did you remember that you were already called, justified, and glorified in him? Stand straight, my son. Stand straight, my daughter. The world may celebrate those who stand tall, but heaven delights in those who stand straight. I'm encouraging you this morning to take a time to reflect over your life. Look at one area where you know that in truth you need help. Ask the Lord to help you. I wish you help you. I wish you will be able to do that.
