Hey yo, what it do, what it do, what it do. My name is Christian, and you are listening to Sermons from the Back Porch. I'm sorry I have to be real quick. I'm a little short pressed for time and I had to rush to get here, so I'm not I'm not going to try to rush through this, but here we go. We are in our sermon series, learning from your haters. And if you haven't been listening, I suggest you go back to the couple of episodes before this one and catch up. But basically, the series is about learning from your haters, people in your life for reasons and seasons. And since good people in your life to teach you lessons, so can your haters. So we're breaking down haters and what can you learn from your haters. Today is one of my Mythbuster sermons. One of those sermons where I like to take, you know, common sense and common notions that we typically use or other people typically use, and break them down to see if they're actually true or if they're a lie or not. So one thing that I want to break down, especially when it comes to haters, you probably heard this saying a lot, especially as you've been like church, you've been going to church or something like that. You've probably heard this several times. But you heard somebody saying, Nobody that's doing better than you is going to hate on you. Nobody that's doing more than you or at a higher level than you is going to hate on you. But that, my friends, is a lie. And I don't want you to go into life believing that people that are doing better than you are not going to hate on you. Especially in their same field than you and the same career area or the same goals as you. And the thing about a powerful hater is they have time, they have resources, they have influences, they already have utilities at their disposal to try to take you out, to try to stop you from doing what God has called you to do. And oftentimes, they're going to be successful in their goal. Whatever goal they have against you, they're going to be successful. Like, they may spread rumors to try to discredit you. And most likely those rumors are going to be successful since these are powerful haters and they have reputations and influences behind them. They can get people on their side. So most of the time they are going to be successful. But just because they're successful doesn't mean they're going to stop you from what God has called you for you. Just because they succeeded in their goals doesn't mean that you're not going to succeed in your goals. So that's the objective of this sermon. We're going to learn how to operate when you're dealing with haters that are more powerful than you. And also, we're going to show you that just because a powerful hater is successful in his goal doesn't mean they stopped you. So if you're ready, let's go. Okay, let's as we go into this, let's talk about something called religious sets. Now, religious sets are something that's been established way, way even before the Bible. And basically, what a religious set is, is a certain section within a religion that believes a certain way or a certain tradition. In addition to what the traditional form of that religion calls for. So let's say, like somebody can say there I'm a Christian, but I'm a Baptist also. They're Christian, but they're Baptists. They follow the rules and the traditions of the Baptist traditions. Somebody might be Methodist and they might be following those Methodist traditions. Either in the streets, you have gangs, like you have Crips, and you have bloods, and in those groups, like Crips, you have like 9-0 Crips and Grapevine Crips and Avalon Crips, or you have might be a folk, which you might be GD or IGD, and you might have different sections in that group. But that's what basically a religious set is like. Basically, a religious section within the group that basically has additional beliefs in accordance to what's traditionally being taught. Now, this is in con in accordance to Bible times. So I'm speaking in Bible terms. So when I speak of Bible terms, I'm basically talking about sets that a lot of people are knowledgeable of. Like in the Judean religion, there were sets such as Essenes, Sadducees, Zealots, and Pharisees. And there are plenty more, but these sets go back way before Old Testament, back to the formation of the Town mood. And basically they had their specificing specific rules that they followed along with the Jewish traditions. But the one I'm going to talk about is the most known, the one we all know. One even people who haven't gone to church may have heard this term before. But today I'm going to talk about the Pharisees. Before I talk about the Pharisees and get into how the Pharisees compared for haters, let me give you a beef, a brief history on the Pharisees. The Sadducees had their form of belief as far as the written law of the Talmud, and far as the religion, how they acted out. And they were very conservative in their views. So the Pharisees broke off from them in their conservative ways and started their own thing because they believed differently than the Sadducees. Like Sadducees were literal in their interpretation. But the Pharisees believed that the law evolved over time. So there was also a written law and also an oral law. And they also believed that ministry outside of the temple was more important than ministry inside the temple. So most of their work was done, you know, in the streets. They were literally street preachers at that time. And the thing about the Pharisees was they weren't like high important political people or high-important businessmen. They were basically like servicemen and laymen in the church, basically blue-collar workers and not people who were up top, but basically church goers, just regular church goers. And they had their own beliefs that were separate than what the Sadducees believed, so they broke off from the Sadducees traditions and started their own thing, the Pharisees. And like I said, they were very important in regards to Judaism at their time. Especially in the time, because they were this fresh liberal new way to look at things. Not only did they believe in the written tradition, they believed in the oral tradition. And because they believed in written and oral tradition, their methods were very successful in keeping the Talmud, even though, even through, you know, conquests and triumphs from other nations. Even in the Old Testament, coming from the Old Testament to the New Testament, because they were so deep in memorizing the law, both written and oral, they were key in carrying the Jude the Jewish traditions over from that 400-year period that the Romans blocked out in the Bible. So, how did the Pharisees become this powerful group in the New Testament from this breakoff group in the Old Testament times? And one thing about the Pharisees, they were marketing geniuses. Like I said before, they weren't rich or powerful, they weren't political, they were basically small business owners. They were basically laymen and servicemen in the church. But their wise of power was their ability to brand themselves. Like the name Pharisees, it means set apart ones. The name itself gave them a brand that, hey, we're set apart from the rest. We're individuals, we're not like them, as they say. They're not like the ways that they're doing. We're evolving and we're growing in a more liberal term in the ways that we do things. And that way was basically pleasing to the people. They saw that. Hey, the Pharisees weren't no temple thumpers, they weren't, you know, Talmu thumpers. They were actually in the streets preaching to you, preaching to people as they go about that day. They were more prevalent outside of the temple than inside of the temple. So since they were more prevalent outside of the temple, that allowed them to brand themselves better amongst the people. So then you can say really they were the first social influencers. They lived this lifestyle of, hey, we're blessed by God, we're chosen by God, we're the separate ones by God. So people saw that as relatable. They weren't stuck up, they weren't too overly righteous in their traditions. Or when they started, they weren't too overly righteous in their traditions. So people trying to, people tended to flock to the Pharisees. The Pharisees were, you know, helpful in the Talmud. They were given positions in the temple. And basically, people related to them because of what they did and who they were. And this relation with the people, you know, caught the eye of the Romans at that time, who, you know, at times were taking over the Israelites, who were oppressing the Israelites. And since they seen, you know, how the Pharisees have the draw on the people, they kind of worked with the Pharisee and they aligned themselves with the Pharisees. And with this alignment came the disappearance of all the other religious sets. The Essenes, they got ran off. The zealots, they got killed. Sadducees were dwindling in power. But the Pharisees were growing in power, growing in strength. They had this alignment with the Romans. Basically, they had the Romans in their pockets in a way or another. So what they said was law. What they said was tradition. What they did and what they set before the people was, you know, concrete. And if you went against the Pharisees, they have the Romans on their back. So they can basically get the Romans to take care of the dirty works for them. Because we get into that later, but you know, with the Romans on their side, they had the power to put put to death anybody who basically opposed them. One example we can read in the Bible is John the Baptist. But the Pharisees were top dog around this time, especially coming into the New Testament. They're top dog, as they say. There are no other religious sets, there's no other precept. And what they're saying, what their law is, is basically becoming the traditional law because they have the force and the backing of the Romans. So they good. They are good. They are set, they are in their ways. So they top dog around the town. Top dog in the country. Top dog around the Israelites.

Then out of nowhere, out of nowhere, here comes this broke carpenter out of Nazareth talking about you want to be close to God, all you gotta do is love. Love your enemies, love your haters, love your neighbors, love everybody, even those who are being bad against you. Love the Romans. All you gotta do is love. Love, love, love. You want to be close to God, just love.

And this broke carpenter was inadvertently stepping in the Pharisees' lane. And the Pharisees didn't like this. Even though the Pharisees didn't like it, the Pharisees and the Carpenter, their ministries were very basically similar. They both preached mostly outside of the temple. They both believed in the evolution of the law. The law is both oral and written. In the case of the carpenter, it's spiritual and written. But there basically their ministries were similar. But the thing about the carpenter is he ain't followed protocol. Now see, there's an alignment, there's people you gotta go under. See, the Pharisees are no longer laymen anymore. Now that they're aligned with Romans, they're chief priests now, they're high priests now. So in order to be preaching this Judaism, this religion that they the Pharisees follow, you have to be aligned with one of their high priests or one of their chief priests. And the carpenter, he ain't aligned with nobody. He out here doing what he wants to do, wherever he wants to go, whoever he wants to talk to. And that's another thing. The carpenter, he hanging with unsavory people. He ain't in a temple, he ain't talking to the priests, he ain't talking to people who go to the temple. He over there with the wine drinkers, with the gamblers, with the tax collectors. Don't nobody like the tax collectors except the Romans, because they're getting Romans money. But if you're an Israelite, you hate a tax collector. But Jesus is sitting with him, he's chilling with him, he's preaching to them, the lola, the prostitutes. He's preaching to them, and his ministry is basically towards them. And it's not towards the servicemen. He's not preaching to the temple, basically. So there's no protocol, there's no overhead, there's no alignment. We can't trace where he's getting his knowledge from. And not only that, he got a bunch of ragtailed disciples running around with him. And you had disciples, you want number one disciples that are in the temple, disciples that are closely connected to somebody, that know somebody that you know that you can put in places. A zealot. All the zealots are supposed to be dead, but somehow he ran around with a zealot. He'd have made a tax collector quit his job. And he runs around with a tax collector now. And he hanging out with Judas Iscariot. That name right there rings bells. And most of the time when those bells are ringing, it's somebody behind him like, hey, stop Judas Hysterius. They stole my money. So this is a ragtail bunch of people that this carpenter has around him. This is no way to start a ministry. This is no way to build yourself up to become somebody. You're talking to with hustlers and tax collectors and murdering zealots around you. But the one thing that pissed him off the most, the Pharisees off the most. But he had a better marketing plan. He was better at marketing. Number one, the Pharisees called himself the separated ones. But this man going around calling himself the son of God. He's literally going around saying he's God's son. And not only that, allegedly he's doing miracles. Allegedly, there's stories that you know he healed a couple of blind people. Somebody dropped the lame man through a roof and he healed him. Even the crazy story about him turning water into wine at a at a wedding. What kind of priest turns water into wine? Ain't nobody ain't supposed to be drinking, but he at a wedding turning water into good wine. Got everybody turned up. So this carpenter is a problem for the Pharisees. That they see as a problem. So this problem has to be dealt with. So but before we get to how the Pharisees dealt with that problem of the carpenter, let's see how the carpenter dealt with the Pharisees. Because number one, the one thing the carpenter did that to handle the Pharisees was he never treated them as his enemy. Like I said, their ministries were very similar. So a lot of times the carpenter would say, Hey. He would boost up, he would praise the way the Pharisees held the tradition, held the law. He would tell people, hey, do as the Pharisees say, but not as they do. He even extended his ministry to the Pharisees. There was often times when he would take the time to actually talk to Pharisees and minister to Pharisees. As a matter of fact, John 3.16, the most famous Bible quote in the history of Bible quote. The verse right there is a late night conversation between the carpenter and the Pharisee. So he never shunned away the Pharisees. And he never pushed back on the Pharisees. Lifted them and he actually encouraged the people hey, follow them, but don't do as they do. Like I said, he's praised them, but he also calls them out on their bullshit. That's one thing you have to do when you deal with a powerful hater. You have to call them out on their bullshit when it's time to call them out on their bullshit. It is not an attack that you do at first, but once these powerful haters get so bold where you have no other choice but to confront them, then you call them out on their bullshit. And we see that in Matthew chapter 23. It finally got to the point where the carpenter had to call them out on their bullshit. And in chapter 3, you see the rebuke that he gives to the Pharisees. And it's a very the way he did it was like the way the Pharisees would talk to people in the street as they preach. It was all woe to you, Pharisees, woe to you, Pharisees. You are blind because you do this and you do that. This is the same way the Pharisees would preach to the people. You are blind because you follow the tradition, but you don't follow these traditions that we taught, that we teach, and these preach. So let's see how the Pharisees dealt with his carpenter. Before they even came up with the plot to kill him, they were basically trying to discredit him. Like they were everywhere they seen that he was breaking the law, they would call it out on. They seen him one day picking up a piece of grain. And they said, Oh, he's breaking the law. He's picking up grain on the Sabbath. Other time they thought he didn't pay taxes, so they said, hey, oh, he's not paying taxes. He's against the Romans. They tried to make him make the people believe that the carpenter was not this son of God, son of man person that he claims to be, because he doesn't even follow the law like he's supposed to. And they will also try to test him. They would ask him these questions, like, hey, what's the most important commandment? And he told, and he would also actually take their time while they were testing him to teach them. And say, hey, the most important commandment is to love. Because all those commandments that are written in the Talmud are based on love. So if you're going to do anything, love. That's the way you uphold all the commandments. Love. So he always tried to discredit him or they try to belittle him. But all of that never worked. None of that never worked. So since none of that never worked, they had to come to the plot to take him out. Like I said, the Pharisees are powerful. They're intricate. They're syndicated. They have people in their pocket. They have Romans in their pockets, judges in their pockets, priests in their pockets. They have everything at their disposal to take him out. So they come up with the plan to take the carpenter out. That's the only way to take the carpenter out is to kill him. But Pharisees can't kill. They're bound to the law. And everybody knows the law of the Ten Commandments. Thou shalt not kill. So Pharisees can't kill. Even if they tried to kill, they would make their image look bad and they would destroy their ministry. So they can't kill. But you do know who can kill and who love to kill? The Romans. They love killing. They love killing so much. But they had a festival. After the festival, they let the people decide, hey, who y'all want us to kill? And the people would decide, hey, kill this person, kill that person. Actually, make the people involved in it since they love to kill so much. Let's get the people involved. Maybe they'll like killing too. But the Romans love to kill. So all the Pharisees had to do was get the carpenter to the Romans. In order to get the carpenter to the Romans, they need a charge. They need to have him arrested. They need to find him and arrest him. And this is not an easy task. Because not only does he hang around with thugs, a murderer and a hustler, but he's always around multitudes of people. So there's no way you can snatch him up because there's always people around him. There's always a large group of people following this carpenter everywhere he goes. So just to snatch him up would be nearly impossible because there's always eyes on him. In order to do this, we have to find him at a place where there's nobody around him that can spot us out and then can say, hey, what's going on? So since he has to get to a place where he's not around the most pool of people, we have to get somebody on our side that can get him when he's not around in the most pool of people. So it has to be somebody within this 12 that we can flip in order that we can get him. Hmm. What about then Judas Hiscarian? He easily flipped. And plus, allegedly he's still hustling. Matter of fact, he's stealing money out of his own disciples' pockets and hustling with it. So it can be easy to flip Judas Hiscarius. Number one, he's money hungry. And if he don't take the money, then we can arrest him and have him put to death. So it's either which one is gonna be, Judas. Are you on the cross or the carpenter on the cross? So with this plan in place, they got Judas, they set him up, and now they have a way to get Jesus. We get to get the carpenter without a multitude of people seeing him. So Judas had to set up so once they got by themselves, we were just the carpenter and the twelve, then he'll let them know. So that's how it went down. They used their connections and they used her influence over Judas in order to get the carpenter arrested on bogus charges. And once they got the carpenter, it was their plan wasn't set. They got him on bogus charges, they got him in handcuffs, got him shackled, and they bring him to the Sanhedrin to be judged. And the thing about the Sanhedrin is the Sanhedrin is basically a council mixed with Romans and Jews. And basically, this council basically were set for, you know, to place to enforce the laws, really, basically, to force not only the traditional laws, but the man laws. So not only did they have them arrested on bogus charges, they have a bogus trial for the carpenter. And even when, and the thing about it is, the carpenter is so just and so just and so justified there that their witnesses that they brought against the carpenter even flipped and said, Hey, there's no reason to kill this man. But their influence over the thing he did was so powerful that the Pharisees, you know, got the carpenter arrested on charges. So now he's going to the head Roman so that he can be served his punishment for the charges that they trumped up against him. Now he's in front of you know Pontius Pilate, the head Roman. Like I said, the Pharisees even had Romans in their pockets. So they're basically twisting the arm of Pontus. Hey, you know, we need to get this done after the festival because we need to hurry up and get this done as soon as possible. This man, he's basically saying that he's the king of the Jews. So since he's the king of the Jews, he has more powerful, he has more power than you, Pontus. He's trying to usurp the people against you. He's trying to start a mutiny against you by saying, hey, he's the king of the Jews. Now, nowhere does the carpenter say this, but the Pharisees brought this up. They basically brought this up to bring charges against the carpenter. To basically twist the arm of Pontius to say, hey, this man is trying to say he's more powerful than you. And that worked. And their influence was so powerful that Pontius didn't even want to kill him. Pontius wife had a dream, and in their dream, she tells him, Hey, don't kill him. I had a bad dream about this. Don't do it. But Pontius' arm is twisted by the Pharisees and by the people around him. So he sets people up. He sets the carpenter and a murderous revolutionary to be executed. And he gave the people a choice. But again, the Pharisees had influence over the people. So basically, basically, once the Pontius gave them a choice, the Ferris the Pharisees were in the crowd convincing the people that, hey, the carpenter needs to die. Free Barabbas, kill the carpenter. And it worked. It worked. The people actually voted that the carpenter who has done nothing wrong, hurt that hasn't hurt anybody, is being put to death. The Pharisees seceded. Like I said, powerful haters, they secede. And they succeeded in their goal. They brought this man on bogus charges, had a bogus trial, twisted the arm of the most powerful Roman of that time, and set up the execution of an innocent man. A powerful hater. But like I said earlier, just because a powerful hater secedes doesn't mean that you are stopped. Just because they succeed doesn't mean that you're not going to secede. Because even though the Pharisees seceded, all they did was catapult the carpenter's ministry. Even after the death, he resurrected three days later. And now that attempt to quiet him, that attempt to eliminate him basically backfired in the worst way possible. Really the most the most backfiring is backfire ever backfire. His name is great. He's literally seated at the right hand of God. And the Pharisees. The Pharisees are basically now known as the exact same thing they were trying to escape. Now they're over they're being known as overly righteous, overly religious, evilly righteous, evilly religious. Now the name Pharisee is a bad word, a bad taste. Being called a Pharisee is an insult now. So and that's how it works. Just because a hater is powerful, a hater is successful, a hater does all that he can and completes accomplish the goal of trying to just credit you and stop you doesn't mean that you're stopped. You may have people in your life today that's trying to stop you, that's trying to. Trying to stop you from accomplish your goal. And it seems like they're doing it. But just because they're succeeding doesn't mean you're not going to secede. Don't let what a hater does discourage you. Don't let a hater belittle you. Don't let a hater make you feel like you're less powerful. You have power because God is with you, God is behind you, God is basically on your side. As long as you're doing what God has called you to do and you're walking righteously and you're walking in his principles and laws, you have nothing to be worried about.
