Season 1 of What’s the Mathematics is where it all started—real conversations centered on the decisions, risks, and relationships that shape our lives and careers.
Before the Founder’s Edition, this season laid the foundation by exploring how everyday people, professionals, and leaders think through challenges, opportunities, and growth. It’s not about equations—it’s about the mindset, discipline, and experiences that add up over time.
This reboot brings those conversations back with fresh perspective—because the math never changes, but how we understand it does.
Check check one two, Mike Check one two. The first podcast of twenty twenty Jeff Magruder was the mathematics. So why so why do a podcast? There's there's several people doing podcasts all over the country speaking on millions of topics. And why do I think I should do a podcast and have the knowledge to get on here and talk and run my mouth? So the origin story of what's the mathematics came from a few years ago spending time with a good buddy of mine, Josh Mundy and Robbie Sherrill. And we did a podcast in Nashville where we were covering a various amount of topics as it relates to Nashville. And my segment as the banker and someone who has been in banking for 18 years was strictly to talk about the mathematics in all situations, to make sure that we were covering the substance. And math to me is the most important skill to learn in school because it's the foundation of everything we physically have. You could also argue that it's also a spiritual component to mathematics. So my podcast is named What's the Mathematics? And so that's the question that I will ask at the end of each show. Is what's the mathematics of today's subject? So today, let's hop into it as I I I plan to discuss a lot of different things that I've done over the past, but uh I'm going straight from some blogs that I I've written on my website, uh JeffMagruda.com. And so one of the first blogs that I did, I wanted to give people just an idea of how I organized my day before getting into small business or credit talks or real estate discussions. I really wanted the people to get to know like, how are you able to juggle so many things during the day? And simply I wanted to just be able to break that down in the first three blogs. And so um today we're gonna discuss my planning, my daily planning that I learned from Franklin Covey. And the the name of today's topic is Daily Planning is as simple as A B C. And so we're gonna start um backwards. We're gonna start with C. And C in that ABC stands for community. And so during during my time as a banker, I've learned to prioritize my day. And so you have three levels you have A, B, or C. And then and in that, A is always the revenue component, the most important thing I'm working on at the office. B is the operational piece, uh, how I get deals closed, how I'm making sure clients um all the T's across and the I's are dotted at my office. And lastly, is community and family. And so typically I'll keep those things kind of flowing throughout the day as I impact my work life. And so, what it also does, it frees up my mind to add more things to my task list. And so if you think about how many things come at you in the different in different parts of the day, one thing that we a lot of people struggle with is keeping things organized and it creates stress and it creates a lot of anxiety around having to do so much. But once I learned this system from Frank and Covey, it's really made my career blossom and it's made me be able to handle a lot more things and be able to delegate a lot more things and make sure I'm I'm holding my end of the bargain as teammates or as a husband or as a father throughout the day or just a friend. So uh so did so today's lesson is um is actually the third lesson. Um it's community. And so so on my task list, community is listed when I write a C down. So when I have things that it's like if I'm on a board and I have to do something for the board, if I'm raising money for the Boys and Girls Club, or if I'm doing a breakfast for Kip or if I'm going to speak somewhere, I would I put that as a C because it kind of takes away from my normal job. And so I've put that as a C, but eventually I will get to it. Um I also use that time. Um, if my wife hits me up and hey, will you go pick you go pick up some um groceries from the grocery store? Um, I need you to run by and grab this or grab one of the kids, I put that down as a C because eventually I'll get to it because it's not top priority, but I don't want to forget it. Um lastly, the big thing about having this C component is the fact that it capitalizes the day for you. Because if I'm just focusing on A, B, and C's all day, um, excuse me, if I'm just focusing on A and B's all day and I never look to some of the C's, if if if A and B become mundane, I'm getting blocked down and just focusing on my job, I'll forget all day to even focus on my community and my family. And so just by writing it down, I've acknowledged at some point during the day, I have to knock one of these C's off of my list. And so it's become a really helpful tool for me to use this as a way to keep up with things going on around the house in my community. So I'm just gonna read a little excerpt from the blog to make sure that I'm hitting the point correctly. So the second paragraph is it uh I wrote, it says this. The C task became even more important when I had kids. Numerous activities during the week can be overwhelming unless you have a system to catch it all. Your family and your community is a daily priority. I think I just said that. The results of this focus will make you well rounded and a leader in your community.
