SPEAKER_01

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Not Salty Podcast. Thanks for being with us. A very, very special episode this week. We sit down with McCoy and Wyatt. McCoy won the Michigan Amateur and the Gam Championship two summers ago. He had an amazing run. He's an amazing guy. And his sidekick, Wyatt, the assistant pro at Prestwick Village Golf Club, uh, is another amazing guy. And they're just two best buds, but two characters. And so this is an exciting episode. So thanks for being with us. And right after the episode, there were some wagers made on this podcast. And so I'll give you an update. As soon as this podcast ends, they will there will be a little update on who won those wagers. So stay tuned for that. Let's get going. All right, G Money. We got Wyatt and McCoy in the house tonight. Uh, I always joke with these two. They're like, if you've ever seen the movie Step Brothers, I think that sums up Wyatt and McCoy to a T. Um, I think every day they just look at each other and say, Did we just become best friends? So they're just like kind of inseparable duo. For our listeners, uh McCoy plays golf at uh Michigan State University. Uh the summer before last, he had a uh really hot summer where he won the Michigan Amateur and the Gam Championship. Um and him and Wyatt are Wyatt is the pro assistant pro at Prestwick, where uh McCoy does a lot of playing and practicing. Um so they're pretty tight. So we have Wyatt and McCoy on on the podcast uh tonight. So thanks for joining us, guys.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, thanks for having us on, Mikey.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, thanks, Mike.

SPEAKER_01

So we're gonna we're just gonna come out hot right out of the gate. You guys keep telling me year after year, because the state program is uh a week and a half away, and you guys keep telling me that you guys are gonna win the state program. I've yet to see it happen. Is this the year you guys break through?

SPEAKER_04

Sure is. Sure is.

SPEAKER_06

I think so. We're both playing pretty good right now. So lack of chances.

SPEAKER_04

I was thinking about it. Like, there's a lot of teams in the field that got like A and B players. I think me and Wyatt are a player, a player. We got two good players, put it together. We're gonna get it done this year.

SPEAKER_01

All right, so we're gonna do a first on this podcast, Garrett. Yeah, we're gonna make a wager with these two.

SPEAKER_05

Bingo. I was gonna go there, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. If they win the state pro am, we have to do something for them. We can't be tossing around money on the podcast, so we have to do something for them. But if they do not win the state pro-am, they are gonna have to do something for us.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, what kind of stakes are we talking here? I'm intrigued.

SPEAKER_01

What you guys let me give you, Garrett, let me give you a little backstory about McCoy. Okay, okay. We're playing the other day, and he's my partner, and we are just getting our butts whipped, and we're playing against Wyatt, Wyatt's dead. And I looked at Wyatt and started making some comments like McCoy don't doesn't care. Like, how's he out here having fun and laughing and joking? We're just getting our butts kicked, and this and that. So we make the turn, yeah. And at the turn, I say, McCoy, I bet you a hundred dollars you can't shoot three under on the back nine. If you shoot three under or better, I'll give you a hundred dollars. If you don't, you gotta give me twenty-five. Okay, okay. Uh-huh. We got rained out after like 13 or 14 holes, and he was three under.

SPEAKER_06

No way, it was three under through four on the back.

SPEAKER_00

Nice. So, obviously, being my partner isn't motivation enough to play hard. But what as soon as you throw some money out there, he's like, Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_05

Put some cheddar on him, man. Now it's go time.

SPEAKER_00

Right now, I'm interested. Now you have my attention. Benjamin talks, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, sure does. Right. So we'll think about it during the podcast, but at the end of the podcast, we're gonna come up with a wager. If they win the state program, they get something. If they don't, though.

SPEAKER_05

So this is just a this is an all or nothing. If they win, X. If they don't, why?

SPEAKER_01

I'll give them a top two, one or two, first or second.

SPEAKER_05

Well, we should also. I mean, we you've got to have enough GLG guys up there. I mean, you're up there. Who's your partner?

SPEAKER_01

I play with Aaron Bush from he's from the east side at Lion Oaks.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, you're playing with him. I'm playing with Kyle Holmes. We got McCoy and Wyatt together. There's gotta be a few guys. We should have at least some kind of a little GLG side action or not salty side action.

SPEAKER_01

Is Murphy playing again? Murphy's defending, yep. So he'll be there with his partner defending the title. Okay, doing something you two knuckleheads have not done, and that's cool.

SPEAKER_06

Um we haven't done yet.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, Kate Brody will be up there with her father.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So they'll be up there. Um, Evan McDermott is not playing this year. I'll have to get a pulse on who all will be there.

SPEAKER_05

Take a look at the player list. I feel like we could pull something pretty cool and pretty fun together that we could at least kind of chase each other a bit, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. All right, so we'll come up with that wager. Um, and we'll come up with it by the end of the podcast, right? At the end, we'll we'll so be thinking about it, boys. Uh, but till then, let's dive into your guys' uh golf careers and stuff. Why? We'll start with you real quick. Uh, Prestwick of Special Place. Um, we talked about it yesterday. That you know, Prestwick just has a good vibe. Um, a lot of good players play out there, and even if they're not members there, you get a lot of good players that come to just play little money games and things like that to keep their skills sharp when they're not playing tournament golf. So just talk about how you got to Prestwick um and the vibe that you feel while you're there there at the club.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, definitely. There's a lot of good players. Uh Bo Brialt, for example, he plays on the Corn Fairy Tour or has Corn Fairy Tour status. Um, McCoy is obviously okay at golf. Uh, James Holly, who used to play PGA Tour America's Corn Ferry Tour. He now is the Taylor May Tour putter rep, obviously having a pretty good career doing that so far as he's got a lot of major wins. Um, but uh how I got there was I met my boss, Brent Goulding, at my hometown course, Oak Lane, when I was about 14. And he started giving me some lessons. And when I was 16 or 17, he gave me a job as a bag boy, and now we're here now. I'm an assistant.

SPEAKER_01

How about how many years ago was that when you became the an assistant out there?

SPEAKER_06

Uh, it's my third year.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, and talk about the vibe, real quick. Like, just what do you love about the vibe out there at Presswick? Because it is a different vibe, it is a private club, but it it's just not stingy or snooty, like the feel you get at some places. Um, yeah, I just feel like Presswick has a vibe.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, two-thirds of our members live on the course, so that definitely is different. A lot of them have their own carts, so it's almost like a big party, but it's not. And yeah, it's just a lot of fun. I love I love going to work every day.

SPEAKER_01

Garrett, we were out there playing, and there was behind us, there's uh some kids playing, and uh two guys and a female, and I look back, you know, while we're playing and watching them hit some shots, and I think this sums up Prestwick. I'm like, who's that girl? Like, you know, she hits it pretty good. And they're like, Oh, so if she plays at the University of Florida. I'm like, okay, who's that kid? Oh, that's David. You know him, you've met him. He's you know, committed to Butler. He's going to Butler next year to play, and that's just not uncommon out at Prestwick where you're playing and you look behind you, and there's who's that? Oh, they play at this college or that college or they play professionally, or you know, we're not talking about uh, you know, some hacks out there, like there's just a lot of good talent.

SPEAKER_05

That's what I've heard. Well, why what is it about Prestwick that that draws all of these type of players?

SPEAKER_06

Uh probably that there's already a lot of good players there, and also probably that we have a really, really nice practice facility. It's top 50 in the in the US, I believe. So that's a pretty good draw, too.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I can imagine that your guys' practice facility is second to none, in my opinion, or at least at least over that direction. Uh without a doubt, it's it's the best I've seen yet. So, yeah, it is so good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it has like a 360 almost range where you can go any wind direction. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

70s, wedges, irons, drivers. It's it's cool.

SPEAKER_05

Yep, yeah. I remember playing the state open there uh a few years back when you guys hosted, and then when you hosted the um section championship, we had a couple of our guys in from Tailormade and put on. It was the year we launched MG4, I believe, and we had some of our guys in from tour, and they said the same thing. Um, they were like, This I remember that possibility is second to none. This this place is especially especially for the short game, yeah. The types of shots and the the variety of shots you can hit with wedges around there is incredible.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, three chipping greens, so yeah, a lot of different stuff. Yeah, that was cool.

SPEAKER_01

You would think these two knuckleheads would have great short games with all that uh practice areas they have, but no.

SPEAKER_06

Well, you see, we have big greens, so we don't have to chip a lot, so right and they and McGee, here's your opportunity.

SPEAKER_05

Make your plug.

SPEAKER_00

If you hit 18 green boys, you don't have to chip.

SPEAKER_05

This is true, so you should work on that, Mikey. They're ball strikers.

SPEAKER_01

So uh let's kind of transition to McCoy. Like, how did you meet Wyatt? I'm guessing just from playing out there and Wyatt being out there, but I I joke about it a lot, but you guys have a very unique relationship that's really cool to see. Um, you know, kind of that best friend, best bud type relationship, and um, you're always looking out for one another, which uh it's kind of special and it's kind of cool to see. So, McCoy, how did Wyatt come into your life and how did you guys become so close and to where you guys are today?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, I probably I joined Presswick probably five years ago, and I think I was a range member for maybe a year or two, and I I wasn't really into I was into golf, but it wasn't like my main sport. I'd played other sports, and then once I joined full time or my family joined full-time, just kind of started to play with some other guys, and then that's how I got to know Wyatt, and then we just kind of bonded over playing, and now it's not just golf, we just hang out outside of golf and just enjoy each other's company.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so you kind of prog progressed pretty quickly at golf then.

SPEAKER_04

If you were playing other sports, yeah, I I've always played, I live on a golf course, and so I've always played, but I took golf, I would say, seriously, like my junior year of high school. I stopped playing other sports and I just focused on golf.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so you go to uh what high school did you go to?

SPEAKER_04

I went to Lakeland High School.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, and then from there, then did you go right to Ferris State University?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I went to Ferris and then I played two years there and just finished my first year at Michigan State.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so let's talk about um we're probably skipping over a lot of stuff, but you go to high you play high school golf, you take it seriously your junior year, you get an offer to go to Ferris State University where you go there, have some success. Um the summer before last summer, you have an amazing summer. You win the Michigan Amateur in up at Boeing, and then you win the Gam Championship. Where was the Gam Championship held?

SPEAKER_04

Uh Barton Hills in Ann Arbor.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Why don't you just talk real quick about that summer? Like, what started clicking for you where you just got on this run to win two of the top amateur events in the state in the same summer?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's kind of funny. Like, so I played good uh my freshman year at Ferris before that summer leading up. And going into the am, I hadn't made match play yet. I think I had missed when it was at Hawk Hollow, I missed by two, and then the year after it was at Oakland Hills, I missed by one. And so, like going into it, it's like this is the year, like I'm making match play. Let's see what I can do. And I'd been playing good. So I uh let's see, I think stroke play, I didn't do anything incredible. I might have shot like two over two over. I was maybe like middle of the pack, 32 seed, and then I get into match play and I win my first match on like 17, kind of get the nerves off, and then win my second match three and two, and then my third match, I actually uh I played uh my teammate at Ferris and now my teammate at Michigan State Caleb Bond, and we we had ended up going 26 holes, and so I think for me, like once I won that match, um, knowing that he's obviously a really good player, kind of gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of that tournament.

SPEAKER_01

What round was that? Was it like the sweet 16 or the final?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that was the sweet 16, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You beat Caleb. Yes, yeah. Once you got over that hurdle, you had what then final eight, final four, then champ three matches to go to to win it. Did at that point were you like, okay, I can actually go out and win this thing?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think it's like one of those things like like I said, I never made match play before. And then once you win a few matches and beat a good player like that, then it gives you like more confidence, and you're like, Yeah, let I can do this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So who did you play in the final?

SPEAKER_04

I played Jimmy Dales.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, no.

SPEAKER_04

He played at Wyoming.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's a really good player.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's a good player. I think he I think he's playing, uh US Open sectionals. So he's playing on that probably next week.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. What's the first thing Wyatt said to you after you won the aim? Why would you say to him? I actually I don't remember.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I don't either.

SPEAKER_06

I'd have to look.

SPEAKER_04

I know, I know uh I mean he was on my bag when I won the game, but I don't I don't exactly remember what he said after the am.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember either. All right, let's okay, so then let's fast forward. You win the Michigan Am, you're Michigan Am champ. Uh then you go to the Gam at Barton Hills. What were you expecting to have a really you know great appearance there? Or were you just kind of how do I explain this? It's it's kind of like when you do something great, you know, everything else seems gravy, if that makes sense. Um, did you feel that way? Like, hey, I won the AM this summer, so anything else I do is just kind of icing on the cake, or did that kind of motivate you to work harder and say, All right, I want to win, keep keep going. I want to win something else, and I want to win this or that.

SPEAKER_04

Like what Yeah, I think I think it's totally that. Like you get that first win under your belt, and everyone loves winning, so you're like, all right, I want to do I want to win more. And then you go, I go into the game, and I don't want I don't even think my expectations were higher at all. I just kind of stayed in the moment, and then after the 36 whole day, uh I don't I actually I think I might have a one-shot lead, but after the 36 whole day, then I kind of realized like, oh, I have a chance to do another great thing this summer.

SPEAKER_01

And Wyatt was on the bag for that, huh?

SPEAKER_04

He was on the bag the final round because uh he's probably working the the 36 whole day, or maybe he had an event himself, and then the final round, we had a bunch of rain delays, and so once it was delayed like three or four hours, he he texted me and I said, Yeah, let's go, let's do it.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. Picked him up some lunch and got him going. So, should we say you won in spite of Wyatt being on the bag, or you won because Wyatt was on the bag?

SPEAKER_04

You know what? However, you want to put it, Mikey. Let's say because Wyatt was on the bag.

SPEAKER_00

No, you know what?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Gary, ask these guys questions, but I gotta just say this real quick. And I don't know why I let these I love these two, so I let I let them get away with it, but they're only the the only people in this world, in this whole world, that call me Mikey are like my grandma and my mom, and Danny J.

SPEAKER_00

Sure. Right, Danny J. It's a short list, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

These two, all Mikey call me Mikey, and I let them do it. I let them get away with it because I love them.

SPEAKER_05

Uh puts them on the short list, too. That's that's flattering. It is that's too good. Uh McCoy, I'm curious, man. Uh obviously the hot summer there and the state am up at Boeing, and then the Gam Championship of Barton Hills, two very different golf courses, um, two very different environments to notch wins at. Well, what do you feel like your strengths were in each of those events respectively?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, uh, I actually struck it really well both weeks, but um I think especially Barton, my short game saved me. I uh hit it into the 36 whole day. I went six for six out of the bunkers, and I also hold out two bunker shots on top of that.

SPEAKER_05

That's huge.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah, that that really saved me there. And then for the AM, I I just I guess match play is different than stroke play, especially with how tough the pins were at Barton. So I just made a lot of pars middle green, just took what the course gave me.

SPEAKER_05

Sure. Because yeah, because Boeing, I feel like more more target-oriented, kind of for sure, more of a confined space that you're that you're striking the golf ball in. And Barton Hills, big golf course, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Open off the T. Yeah, obviously, still gotta be on the right tier of those greens, but sure, a little more forgiving in in that sense.

SPEAKER_05

What is uh uh again, what's what's the strength of your game, would you say overall? That helps ball striking for sure, ball striking for sure. Yeah, T to green. Nice. Wyatt, you agree with that?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I would say right now it's off the T for sure. He's striping it. Nice.

SPEAKER_01

Wyatt, what's the strength of your game right now? Oh um, probably my iron play right now. Garrett Wyatt, uh, when he hits driver, he literally jumps sideways. It's the most impressive thing you'll see.

SPEAKER_05

Does he? Does he get airborne both feet off of the ground?

SPEAKER_01

You know how Charlie DeLong has that little left kick, yeah, foot kicks and moves.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, it takes that to a whole new level.

SPEAKER_06

Really?

SPEAKER_01

If he sets up at a dress and you put a line on the back of his left heel, uh-huh, when he finishes on the foul through, his left foot is probably uh a good two feet left of that line. Really? That's a lot of power.

SPEAKER_06

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Hey, there's a lot of power on that move, McGee.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, it's a foot left of that line.

SPEAKER_06

I was carrying a 320 today, Mikey. I gotta yeah, speed's gotta go somewhere.

SPEAKER_05

Uh I can imagine if you're moving the body like that. That's that's creating some speed, man. McGee, you should take notes.

SPEAKER_00

I'll start jumping.

SPEAKER_05

Load, squat, jump.

SPEAKER_01

I think for me rotate, uh, you know, being a little overweight and the age thing. I think that ship has sailed for me. I think I just have to accept it.

SPEAKER_05

You don't think you can get off the ground like Wyatt can? No, you gotta give yourself more credit, man.

SPEAKER_01

The dude, when you're playing with him, and if he doesn't get to warm up, he looks like uh I'm gonna butcher his name, but Miguel Jimenez on the senior tour. He's over there stretching and squatting and turn you know.

SPEAKER_05

Again, take notes, man.

SPEAKER_06

I'm getting old, Mikey.

SPEAKER_05

You're getting old. How old how old are you, what? Uh 22. Okay. And cue all the listeners laughing at this moment.

SPEAKER_01

I've had some bad issues.

SPEAKER_05

I gotta stretch now.

SPEAKER_01

McCoy turns 21 in two months.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Two months and two days.

SPEAKER_00

He knows exactly.

SPEAKER_04

Me and Wyatt got another uh another Pro Am we're playing in that day.

SPEAKER_05

So on your birthday?

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Nice. Which one's that?

SPEAKER_04

Uh the Midwest Turfing Pro, I believe. At the Fortress.

SPEAKER_01

The two man?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's two men. What two years ago, Wyatt? We lost in the playoff.

SPEAKER_01

And then what happened last year?

SPEAKER_04

Uh Bond won. Totally lagged out.

SPEAKER_01

Last year.

SPEAKER_04

Did I lag out? No, I did.

SPEAKER_01

Who did Bond play with last year?

SPEAKER_04

Uh Baker.

SPEAKER_01

Bake show. That's a good duo right there. Yep. Yeah. We'll get Baker on the podcast because he's now uh rep in GLG. So we got the squad now. Our squad's tight right now.

SPEAKER_05

Your the squad is tight. I love I love these two. These two are fun. McCoy and White. I haven't met you guys yet, but uh I like I like what you guys bring to this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, do not hype them up even more.

SPEAKER_05

I would McGee, I want a 2v2 against these guys.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, it will be a 2v2 on video for YouTube.

SPEAKER_05

I'm still itching to start this 2v2 series.

SPEAKER_01

You and I will take these two on. Yes. We've got to give you great people. 10 shots each.

SPEAKER_05

Who gets 10 shots?

SPEAKER_01

Listen, they're just cocky, they run their mouth all the time.

SPEAKER_05

I'll take I'll take 10. That's fine. I'll take every single one of those.

SPEAKER_01

You know what's funny though? Is I don't know, when we got rained out, uh after McCoy's brilliant front nine, he did start making a run on the back, but how many over you shot what seven over on the front, McCoy?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think I was five.

SPEAKER_01

Five over with a generous five double. I think that's five.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, it was a generous five. Few OB balls, cart path. So you were nothing was going my way on that front line.

SPEAKER_01

So when we ended, he wasn't even beating me, Garrett. Really?

SPEAKER_05

I don't know. Oh, take then take your 10 shots, McGee. Then take the 10. I saw you chip on a few of those, Mikey.

SPEAKER_04

Three over. Mike, I had to have. I was only two over at that point.

SPEAKER_01

I was three over when we quit.

SPEAKER_04

See? And I was con I was I was just going lower. Hey, Mike, I was thinking about this. In the uh in the catalog, uh the uh 1v1 matches against you. Yeah, I think we need to do one tomorrow.

SPEAKER_05

I ain't scared. I ain't scared. McGee, are you gonna play right-handed or left-handed tomorrow?

SPEAKER_06

He says when we see him next time he plays, he's gonna be playing lefty. So he's gonna be lefty tomorrow.

SPEAKER_05

We're gonna uh we'll put this out. Should we put this on the podcast yet, McGee? Or should we keep this under wraps for wraps for now? Okay, all right. You can edit that out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're keeping this under wraps for now.

SPEAKER_05

So this is a closed door pursuit.

SPEAKER_04

All Mikey kept saying yesterday was I'm just gonna start playing lefty. I need to I need to change it up. I'm gonna start playing lefty.

SPEAKER_05

Variety is the spice of life.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. Exactly.

SPEAKER_04

So you could start doing what's that? You could start practicing putting lefty. Play righty, but putt lefty.

SPEAKER_00

I could.

SPEAKER_04

I've seen people do that.

SPEAKER_01

I actually played with a guy today that does that. Why don't you guys? I'm gonna sit here. I'm gonna put go on mute. I just want you guys to give me like five minutes of wisdom. You two, you have it all just come on, spit it at, spit it at Garrett and I. Wisdom. About what?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, wisdom of wisdom of what kind? Are we just gonna open this up like open forum?

SPEAKER_01

Like they're gonna give us 10 shots.

SPEAKER_05

I love that this is getting recorded. Yeah, send it.

SPEAKER_01

Right. They they you know, oh well, I saw them chip. Yes, I bogeied the first Hulk side par five. I was like right in front of the green and two and duffed a chip, you know. Shocker, like it happens.

SPEAKER_06

I think the divot went farther than the ball.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but Mike, you uh that was all confidence. You told me. I go, Mike, you're getting this up and down. You go, I know I'm making six from that. I'm making six before you even hit the shot.

SPEAKER_01

I did get up and down on the next toll from the bunker for par.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, that was nice.

SPEAKER_01

Right. I think I shot four over on the front, then I made a birdie on uh the back, and uh then we had to quit, and I was I birdied uh number one because we started on ten. I birdied one.

SPEAKER_05

McGee, how many times have you played with these two?

SPEAKER_01

Garrett, you play with them once or twice, and that's like enough for a lifetime, but um we've well last year Shannon Kennedy and I beat them. This is what this is what information they're so common.

SPEAKER_00

It's false. It's false.

SPEAKER_01

Shannon Kennedy, and I have the picture on my phone. Yeah, Shannon Kennedy and I beat them last year, and Shannon and I are at lunch in the clubhouse after making the W with our fingers because we were winners, and so they're all to an 0-in-one start.

SPEAKER_04

No, that's no we lost the money, we didn't actually lose the match, though. Oh, that seems we lost because Mikey pressed at a very valuable time.

SPEAKER_01

Uh okay, just little technicalities, you know.

SPEAKER_05

That's a big that's a big technicality, but yeah, impactful presses.

SPEAKER_01

This is what's great about these two young 20s snappers, 20-something kids. It's like when they lose, they still find a way to like spin it like they won. Well, the only reason we lost is he like pressed at like the most opportunist time, and so I'll admit my losses. Uh Shannon, I got you. So they're on one, Garrett. They want to give us 10 shots, I guess. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

We'll take it.

SPEAKER_05

We'll take it.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_05

And do we should we give them home course advantage too?

SPEAKER_01

We can, but here's the other thing they do. Okay, this is their secret, and I got fooled yesterday a little bit. Shaking his head, but they they they won't play the far back tees, they'll play the boot blue tease because there's like three par fours that they can reach, and there's or two par fours they can almost drive, drive, or get it next to the green, and then there's a couple par fours or five where there's water carry if you take the more aggressive line, sure, that they cannot carry from the tips, but they can from the blue tees. Okay, so right. So the if anybody's listening to this podcast, they're hustlers out at Prestwick. If they play you, they're gonna say watch out for Wyatt McCoy. Just don't play the blue tees today, guys. Don't do it, don't fall for it.

SPEAKER_05

Like, right, it's they probably got a couple of aliases now, or if they don't yet, they will after this.

SPEAKER_00

They got wigs in their trunk, and yeah, yeah, they're not McCoy and Wyatt.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna play the blue teeth today, guys. Oh, that's an aggressive line. Yeah, but I can carry it from here. Where me, I don't care if I'd rather play the tips than the blues because from the blues, I'm not making that carry, and I'm not I can't take that line, and I can't get it, you know, like they can. So take it back where I'll I'll hit an extra club or two into a green. That's fine with me. Sure.

SPEAKER_04

You know, we'll we'll play the golds tomorrow.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we will.

SPEAKER_05

That was a long pause. Yeah, you seem you seemed unsure about that one. Big play at Ford Initiative guy.

SPEAKER_01

You've been warned. Hey, golfing public around the Great Lakes region, you've been warned about Wyatt McCoy. So there you go. Anything to say, guys, in your defense?

SPEAKER_04

No, I got nothing.

SPEAKER_01

See?

SPEAKER_00

When you speak truth and you spit facts scare it, they don't have anything to say.

SPEAKER_06

You have more of a chance from the blues than the golds. That's all I'll say. I had test.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I don't believe so. Are the gold's further up than the blues? No, the golds are longer. Okay, the gold's are back. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_01

The yeah, no, I I'll take my chances back there. Okay, so we digress. We'll get back on task. Wyatt, uh, also Prestwick is a very good customer of Great Lakes Gear. Um, they do pretty well with uh our apparel in their shop. I think it usually sells out. I mean, when I go in there, there's really never much in there. So Wyatt, uh, why don't you speak a little bit about what you like about Great Lakes Gear and you know, working with us and you know, on the golf side of it, um, and not just the player side of it.

SPEAKER_06

Uh I like the story you told me last night at dinner about how not salty actually started. I thought that was pretty cool. I think you should share that story a little more. Um I like the camaraderie. I like I like Mikey McGee. Uh I like that all my boys are on the team with me. Uh yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Talk about it from the the golf, the shop aspect of it.

SPEAKER_06

How do you mean?

SPEAKER_01

Like the how you feel like the apparel stacks up against other brands in your shop, and because it sells pretty well in your shop.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I think it's more of like a neutral price point, so it's it's not like Peter Millar when you look at the price tag, you want to bomb it. It's more affordable, but it's still good quality. Why are you laughing?

SPEAKER_05

From Peter Millar. Shots taking it.

SPEAKER_01

If you're from Peter Millar listening list, we apologize. That was why it's take, not ours. Shots fired. Shots fired.

SPEAKER_06

It's not a shot fired at all. It's just it's not gonna be a $300 polo. It's gonna be $80. It's gonna be affordable.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you carry Sunday red, and that's uh I was gonna ask you that why you have to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, but we gotta price that half off now.

SPEAKER_00

So you have to to sell it. I didn't say that. Why it said it, why it said it.

SPEAKER_05

Str is good stuff. You were feeling up my shirt two days ago.

SPEAKER_01

I like the fabric, they make good fabrics, it's just a high price point, but they make great stuff. It's like Grayson. Grayson makes great products, but it's a high price point. It's you know, and that's just not us. We're just not that high price point like that.

SPEAKER_05

No, but you're your roots, man. That's what that's what this brand is all about, and that's what I have always liked and appreciated and respected. Is is the Great Lakes gear, the yeah, established in Michigan story around Michigan, just that hometown roots and feel of it all. That's what you that's what you bring to the table, and that's good stuff.

SPEAKER_06

That was the other thing I was gonna say. It's a Michigan brand, and there's not a lot of those out there. So kind of cool to have that aspect too.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, sir. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Now, Mike, I got a question.

SPEAKER_00

Do you are you are you interviewing us? Or are we interviewing you?

SPEAKER_05

No, this is a this is a round table. What do you got?

SPEAKER_04

But uh well, what I my what I like about it is like that Mike's always getting the name out there, um, going to other venues. Like, for example, my dad does uh adaptive golf stuff, and so Mikey helps out with that, and they do shirts for that and uh apparel for that. So I think that's great. But my question was, is there other things that you are already into with when it comes to uh like the apparel aspect and helping out and getting it out in the community, or is there something that you'd like to get it into?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I'm trying to follow this question. You made a good point, and we're gonna touch on the adaptive um golf championship because I'm glad you brought that up. Um I think at Great Lakes Gear, I think we do a lot that we don't publicize. Um, and I'm not gonna sit here and get into everything and my family story and stuff, but you know, I did lose a sister um who uh you know was three years younger than me and she died, it'd be like uh about 12 years ago now. Um, so we do a lot of things that and give back or donate. Um, but we just don't publicize it, like because to me that comes across sometimes as bragging when you have to bring things to light yourself to get a pat on the back, and that's just not what we do. Um yeah, so the adaptive championship, like you brought up, that your family, your father is very involved in, and you it's close to your family's heart. Um, you because of our relationship, McCoy, it that kind of landed in our lap, and we're thrilled to be able to work with your five your father and your family on that event event. And uh why don't you real quick tell our listeners exactly what the adaptive championship is?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so uh it's called M A G A Michigan Adaptive Golf Association, and it's uh a nonprofit organization that helps adaptive golfers be able to play in a golf event.

SPEAKER_01

And but your father, like they hold the nationals.

SPEAKER_04

So they do the Michigan one, and then I think it kind of works like the game kind of like Michigan Am where you can get ranking points to get into the US adaptive one.

SPEAKER_01

The the national one, okay. Yes, yeah. Uh yeah, I mean for our listeners that this might be the first time they're learning about this, you get a lot of players in that event. It's not just 20 people showing up, it's hundreds.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there's people that travel across the country to play in it. Uh, I want to say there's normally 80 to 100 players right in that range. And it's uh it's at Hawk Hollow. So I mean it's I believe it's June or sorry, July. It's July 25th and 26th this year. So if guys, people want to get out there and watch, it's at Hawk Hollow in Bath, Michigan. It's right around the Lansing area.

SPEAKER_01

And before that event, they have a scramble. Um the Friday before. Yes, the Friday before it brings a lot of people to the event as well, correct? Correct, yes. Yeah. How long has your family been involved in it? And how did you get involved in it?

SPEAKER_04

I think my dad's been, I don't know exactly, but he's been the president for since as long as I've been alive. So I've probably been going up. They used to hold it up in uh the event in Three Rivers, and I'd go up there and help out, and then I'd play in the event as a non-adaptive just to play as a little kid. But yeah, I've I've been just around the the people in the community. So seeing that, like growing up in that is just something different because not everyone quite would understand. Like, there's people that play with they don't have any legs, they're just on crutches, right? They're playing on crutches, which is something crazy. Like, I I couldn't imagine hitting a golf ball, holding crutches and swinging that it shocks me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yep. No, it's it's great, and we're very fortunate to work with your father and your family on that um event, and just very blessed to do so. So we appreciate that, you know. In all sincerity, we appreciate you know, just not just what you do, McCoy, but what your family does. And I know last year I couldn't be there because there was a conflict with another event we had going on, but I'm hoping to be there this year. Um, because I do want to see the event up close and personal firsthand.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think the gam actually got out there last year and they made a little a little uh like video of it. So I think if you go on Gam's Instagram or gam.org or whatever and look up uh Michigan Adaptive Golf, it should pop up.

SPEAKER_01

Nice. That's awesome. Garrett, are you familiar with that at all, or is this the first you're learning about it?

SPEAKER_05

This is the first I'm learning about it. Uh I've seen and and followed some of those golfers on social media. Probably not many of the local Michigan individuals that compete at that at that event or in that level, but it is an impressive talent, and it is uh I imagine experiencing that here at Eagle Eye would be an incredible opportunity.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I cut out for a sec. So if you asked me a question, I didn't hear it.

SPEAKER_05

No, McCoy's done asking you questions, I think. I think we're back to you interviewing him. Okay, yeah, I'm done asking.

SPEAKER_01

I hope I answered your question. There's a lot I want to do with Great Lakes gear. Uh, you know, and that's something I want to talk to Wyatt and Brent about at Prestwick, but um, you know, I don't want to say too much, you know, or anything, but I really am we are very blessed with the team we have and the talent we have on our team, and our team members are winning all these events, not just having success on the state level, but also on the national level. Um, I get asked a lot about our kids and team Great Lakes Gear, and you know, people ask me about McCoy, and people ask me about Caleb or Shannon and Macy when they won the their respective amateur titles. And I try to answer those questions, but creating a platform for people to have access to our players is something that's really heavy on my mind, and I don't know what that looks like just yet, but I don't know if we do days at clubs um around the state where some of our kids show up and other kids can ask questions and almost like a clinic QA type deal. Um, I think that could be very beneficial for a lot of younger golfers that aspire to play at Michigan State one day or compete in at the Michigan Am or there's a lot there to unpack, but that's heavy on my mind right now, and something I'm trying to figure out how to bring our team and their successes to the younger generation of dreamers that want to get there someday. How do we bring them together and mesh that to do everything we can to allow that person that has a dream to fulfill that dream? That's kind of next on my radar right now.

SPEAKER_06

So I like where your head's at. That would be very cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. So why why don't you uh maybe we can start at Prestwick and do some an event? We got junior golf, that would be cool. All right, Garrett.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, what do you got for these guys? I want to spin it back for a minute to what Wyatt had mentioned, and uh gonna put you back on the mic for a sec, McGee, because I don't even know if I fully know the story of how not salty golf kind of spun up as it is. Uh, I mean I've been familiar with you and and the organization and the group since Great Lakes Gear, but um give us and the listeners the kind of the backstory on not salty.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, um we've got a lot of people that have asked that question, especially I think with the podcast and um at the mines last weekend, uh Chris gave us a nice shout-out about the podcast. And so during the lunch break or during right after the round, I did have quite a few people you know come up and talk to me about it. I don't know if you did, Garrett, but um, and so I we're gonna do an episode about how we got to kind of the origins and stuff of that. So I don't want to like uh you know just not give it its kind of the full justice of it by doing a two minute like this is what happened. Um, so we'll skip that question for now, keep people in suspense. But I think we're gonna do an episode coming up, we're gonna talk about like not just me, but In Great Lakes Gear, but like you, Garrett, like we're both grew up in Miss West Michigan. We both like love West Michigan and the activities. And you know, how did you get to become the tailor-made rep for the west side of the state? I mean, that's a pretty cool job, and a lot of people would love to have that job. And how did you get it, you know? And and then, you know, how did Great Lake Skier get to where we are and working with these kids and putting team Great Lake Skeer together? All that. So we'll get to that in another.

SPEAKER_05

We'll we'll table that for now. We'll spin this back on Wyatt and McCoy here. Um, because we we haven't gotten to these two. This is gonna be the first episode, McGee, where we're not gonna talk about their recruiting visit to Quail Ridge.

SPEAKER_01

They have not been there, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So I'd like to know, and I'd like the listeners to know where did you find Wyatt and McCoy? Obviously, Wyatt at Presswick and then the Great Lakes Gear partnership you've got there. But how'd you how'd you find these two and how'd you loop them in? And what what inspired you and McCoy and Wyatt? What inspired you guys to align with Mike McGee or Mikey McGee?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, I'll go. I'll tell my version and then these guys can tell theirs. Let's go. Um, for me with Wyatt, I Great Lakes gear. We got into golf. We're growing on the west side. I needed to get on the east side of the state. Uh, Wyatt's boss, Brent Goulding, I knew from long ago, like 20 years ago. We were in a wedding together, actually. A mutual friend of ours got married. I met Brett, um, had been out to Prestwick like 20 years ago with Tom Harding and played a couple times. Um, and honestly, I didn't know if Brent was still at Prestwick um or not, because I just wasn't really keeping up with all that, and golf really wasn't on my radar. But when we got back into golf and I started playing again, and um I looked Brent up and said, Hey Brent, can you help me out? And can we put some stuff in your shop and see how it does? And he's like, Sure, Mike, yeah, yeah, we'll we'll help you out. So fast forward, Brent. I see Brent at the state pro am and he's in the parking lot, and we're talking, and there's a group of guys, and he's like, That kid right there is like your number biggest fan or number one fan or something, and he points to Wyatt, I think, or something like that. Or Wyatt wants one of those it was something, a head cover, a shirt. Wyatt liked something and told so Brent's family. Yep, and so I was like, Hey, yeah, let me see if I got one in my car, and I and that's how I met Wyatt, and then I was like, Okay, you know, um, and then a bunch we were starting to work and put team Great Lakes gear together, and we had some Grand Valley kids, Charlie DeLong, who was then transferring to Texas Tech, Drew Colce Wheeler. McCoy was a Ferris kid who um, you know, Grand Valley and Ferris, there's a little rivalry there. Uh but I McCoy's name came up a few times, and then he went out and won the AM. So when he won the Am, he was not a Great Lake Skier kid at that time. He was not on Team Great Lake Skier. Okay. Uh, after he won the AM, I told my Grand Valley guys, I said, listen, the kids, I don't care what school he goes to, like, the kids got game, like, we want to work with him if he's a good kid. I'm like, so is he a good kid or not? And they're like, Yeah, he's a good guy, he's a good kid. So I'm like, then we want to work with him. Um, and so I reached out to him and asked, you know, gave him my pitch, and we actually first time I met him in person was at the tournament of champions that summer.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's right. I actually forgot about that. Yeah, I was thinking the first time we met was at Presswick because we had ended up playing Presswick together with Wyatt.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, but we met probably like a week later. Yeah, TLC was the first time we met in person. That's right.

SPEAKER_04

So I drove in the parking lot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I gave you gear in the parking lot. Yep. So that's my story. These guys can tell theirs. All right, okay.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, Mikey said it perfectly. I just got done playing around at the TLC and then saw him in the park, or he came up maybe was it after the tournament you came up to me and you're like, Hey Mikey.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, Oh, we had talked before.

SPEAKER_04

I'd read Yeah, we had we had texted and then talked, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then so what happened, Garrett Workmeister, who's a dear friend of mine and Great Lakes Gear, and uh he was actually like tied for the lead or one back or something going into the last round of TLC. And uh, if anybody knows Workmeister, like he's won pretty much everything there is to win. He has not won the TLC, and I know like how important that is for him. So I actually drove up to Boeing for that final round, uh, because we had some of our kids playing in it, but also like work was and when I got there, work was like tied for the lead. He was in the final group with uh can't remember the who won it that year, but James Pyatt was in his group.

SPEAKER_04

And yeah, I thought there ended up being a three-way playoff between James Workmeister and someone else.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, could have been. Um, Tom didn't ended up not winning, which is was I know he was pretty heartbroken and stuff, which I did not know at the time. If you win TLC, you get like a lifetime membership to Boeing.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think that's really cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, which would be an amazing perk, but uh so anyway, I saw McCoy at TLC, said hey McCoy, and we talked in person for the first time. Yep. So yeah, why uh what's your recollection?

SPEAKER_06

Uh we were at the cocktail party at Stay Pro Am.

SPEAKER_01

In the parking lot, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

We were in the parking lot after there's a little tailgame how we got talking. Uh had a few soda pops in my system. And I was like, hey, you're gonna want to sponsor me. I'm gonna win tomorrow. Because me and my partner, who wasn't McCoy, we were tied for second, I think, and we played nicely. And I was like, Yep, you're gonna want you're gonna want me wearing your gear if I'm gonna win tomorrow. And he gave me a few things, but we didn't end up winning. We were in the lead with three to play, I think, and then kind of gagged it in. But that's how I remember meeting Mikey McGee.

SPEAKER_01

Here, here's the other vibe, Kierr. Yeah, I don't think you've witnessed it, but uh there's a group of guys that you know Boyne holds the cocktail party for the state program. They go to the cocktail party.

SPEAKER_00

I do not think they really ever set foot inside the cocktail party, they are tailgating on the beds of their truck in the parking lot of the cocktail party, they're having their own independent cocktail party. Yes, sure.

SPEAKER_05

We were on the patio.

SPEAKER_00

You were not on the patio patio parking lot, you were not on the patio. No, we were on the patio for a little while parking lot tailgating.

SPEAKER_05

Depending on the number of pops had McGee, a paved service can be called a patio. Sure.

SPEAKER_01

So I think that what Wyatt described as the first time we met, just you know, I've talked about how cocky these two are at times. Like that just sums up our very first encounter was him saying, You should probably want to give me some gear when I go out and win this thing tomorrow.

SPEAKER_05

I love it. I can't I can't, I just can't wait to be up there in a couple weeks with you guys.

SPEAKER_01

Oh you you don't know, uh Garrett. I would love to be able to sit here and plan something with McCoy and Wyatt, but I tried last year. I promise you, we'll plan something. They'll be like, Yeah, that sounds great. Then we'll get a text at some point during the day that says, Oh, sorry, our buddies got a boat, and we gotta go out and help them do this or that. So we'll be out on the boat tonight and we won't be able to make it and yeah.

SPEAKER_06

We don't we don't have a car up there. I don't know what you want from us. Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02

That's the truth.

SPEAKER_01

Who do you ride with? Uh a couple members. You and McCoy both ride up with a couple members?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we're gonna have to take two cars this year, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Who does who does Brent ride up with?

SPEAKER_04

Same. It was it was me, Wyatt, a member in Brent.

SPEAKER_06

And two members in Brent. Oh, yeah, yeah. We had a five-ball at Hidden River, I think.

SPEAKER_01

Do you think we should get Brent on the podcast?

SPEAKER_05

I think so. Yes. I think so. I know Brent a little. I've met I've met him a time or two.

SPEAKER_01

But there's no cussing on the podcast. Do you think we could manage a whole podcast? No cussing.

SPEAKER_06

How good have you gotten if you could manage that? You guys would be on here for either two ten minutes or two hours.

SPEAKER_00

All right. I got Gary, you have anything else for these jokers? I I uh dude, I feel like we could talk clubhouse section.

SPEAKER_05

You want to go to the clubhouse already? Oh man, that's fine. Yeah, I do want to ask McCoy, obviously, being an MSU guy. We're I'm gonna pull this kind of back in and not talk about this round table specifically, but McCoy, you got two of your teammates out at the USM four ball, dude. How cool is that? They got yeah, that's sweet. They're they uh they're playing quite well.

SPEAKER_04

They they played well. Uh unfortunately, they lost uh this morning in the round of 16. Didn't they? Yeah, I think they lost two and one.

SPEAKER_05

I hadn't seen that yet.

SPEAKER_04

Man, still still a really impressive week. I mean, Lorenzo's on the squad, the G squad. Yep. Um and then Drew, obviously, he's a good player. So yeah, I mean, you can't complain. I think they were 10 under in stroke play, and then they won their first match.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, a bad week. They punched the ticket through the qualifier at Barton Hills last year, didn't they? Yeah, they did. Yeah, yeah, that's great. Yeah, I I competed in that with a buddy as well. I remember seeing Lorenzo on the range and heck of a run. Great accomplishment for those boys. I I hadn't what I didn't know that they had lost that match this morning, but still heck of a run, man. That's gotta be cool to see. You got aspirations to get there too?

SPEAKER_04

I've actually never done a four-ball qualifier.

SPEAKER_05

No kidding.

SPEAKER_04

Like, I've just never I've just never like gotten a partner to play in it. I mean, my basketball partner's a pro. I can't play in four ball with them.

SPEAKER_00

You can't yeah, watch this, okay? Yeah, what you got?

SPEAKER_04

Just watch. I know what you're gonna ask, Mikey. If you if if you want to play, we can play. You would play with me. I I've had no one else to play with, so sure, why not?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, uh, Wyatt, I'm gonna allow you to tell the story here on the pod with Garrett because Garrett's gonna love this story about the spring scramble that Great Lake Skear was a sponsor of, of all things.

SPEAKER_00

Tell the story, Wyatt. I can't do that.

SPEAKER_05

Come on, give us a story, and then we'll get a green light.

SPEAKER_00

You can tell it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, give us a story, and then we'll roll this into the patio cocktail hour, also known as the clubhouse. This will be great.

SPEAKER_06

We uh it was me, Brent, my boss, uh, Ashton McCall, who's McCoy's teammate, and Dan Urban.

SPEAKER_01

And Ashton couldn't play because he had they were the team for the state pro or the state spring scramble.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah, okay. Yeah, good squad. Uh Ashton ended up not being able to play because he re-hurt his wrist. So I'm like, Brent, we should we should ask Mikey McGee if he wants to play. He can't get in the event and he's a sponsor and he wants to play. And Brent's like, maybe we're gonna ask some other people though. I'm like, all right.

SPEAKER_02

This is great. This is so great.

SPEAKER_06

So we find my four-ball partner, Cody Houghton. Uh he he does he's not on a team, so he's in. And Mikey McGee texts us a few days later, and he's like, Really? You guys, you guys couldn't invite me to play, and you got a new teammate? And Brent just replied with no. And Mikey McGee was like, Why not? And Brent said, Because we want to win.

SPEAKER_05

Are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_00

No, keep going, Wyatt. Keep going.

SPEAKER_06

What what more is there to the story? You said to Brent the next day at work. Oh, yeah, no, not even the next day. Like 20 minutes later, I got done with my workout. I was working out, AirPods in, and I hear Brent send the text because my AirPods read me uh text messages and notifications, and it says Brent Golding said the group chat because you're not good enough. And I was just like, Oh my gosh, he did not really just say that. And I got in, I got into work, and I go, Brent, don't you think that was a little harsh? He's like, No, I'm like, okay. He's like, I've known him way longer than you have.

SPEAKER_00

So okay, McCoy, I'm signing us up. We're we're trying to qualify at the end of the summer.

SPEAKER_04

It's I think it's too late. I think the it is too late. Qualifier came out like two weeks ago or a week ago. Yeah, and they fill up faster than any other qualifier. We'll go somewhere else. We'll drive somewhere.

SPEAKER_01

I heard okay, so the Michigan site is full, but I did see there's other sites that do have spots open, so we might road trip it.

SPEAKER_04

All right, you you look into that and let me know.

SPEAKER_01

I am honored that you would play with me in the four ball. Because like the it's like yesterday.

SPEAKER_05

McCoy asked my guy to ask McGee first if he's gonna play right-handed or left-handed. Good point. I mean, which side of the ball are you gonna stand on, man?

SPEAKER_01

Hey McCoy, uh McCoy just got a girlfriend, so congratulations. That was like that was like five months ago. Really?

SPEAKER_06

I think longer than that. It's been like eight months. It was like October.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, how did you how did you meet her again?

SPEAKER_05

Is this how we're gonna roll into the clubhouse where we're gonna talk about golf and then eventually talk about golf? Mikey, that stays between us. Yeah, I can't give up.

SPEAKER_04

I can't give away my secrets.

SPEAKER_05

He's got Riz, right, Mike?

SPEAKER_00

No cap on his riz. No cap.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love these two. Oh, I'm gonna adopt them. Okay, so we're in the clubhouse section. The round is dumb. We're on the patio, tailgating, like we will be on April Am in a week and a half.

SPEAKER_05

So shout out to Adam Alcama here because this is the part where we don't talk about golf, but then proceed to talk a lot about golf.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, did Adam or Gurst say that? One of the two.

SPEAKER_05

Adam said it, man. We're gonna we're gonna talk more golf.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so uh we are gonna talk a little golf. Um, go through the what's in the bag. Uh, each of you, why you go first? Because Wyatt was what Taylor made, but now he's with Ping. Um, so go through what's in the bag with you, and then McCoy just made an equipment change, and so we'll talk about McCoy's what's in the bag. Go ahead, Wyatt.

SPEAKER_06

Uh, yeah. So right now I'm using the Callaway AI smoke driver because I'm waiting for my ping to get in still. Uh, with a graphite design DI6X uh mini driver. I have the GT280 with the Denali blue TX in it. Uh, because ping doesn't have a mini driver out right now, and that just I just hit it higher and better than a three would. Uh, I have a Srixon three iron with a graphite design something in it. 95X. Um from Bo. Shout out Bo. Uh, because I'm waiting for my ping three iron. Uh then I have blueprint S's, uh X100 dynamic gold, uh, four through pitch, and then I have the just just got new edges today, the ping s259s um with tour issue uh s400s.

SPEAKER_01

Are you a 50 56 60 or 52 56 60 or what are you?

SPEAKER_06

I I go 50 55 60 because it just the gappings work out better. 54 bent week because I don't like the number six.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yes, I didn't even know that. I didn't know what's your 60 bent to? 60? I thought you didn't like it.

SPEAKER_06

54 is well, it's I mean, I'm not on tour yet, but once I am, I'll just get that carved out. All right, uh, and then I have uh I have three putters I switched between. I have a spider tour X with the L neck, uh Spider Tour V, which actually used to be Nelly Corda's. Shout out James Holly for that one. Uh and uh Phantom 11 Scotty Cameron, which I'm using right now.

SPEAKER_01

I have not seen this Nelly Corta putter yet.

SPEAKER_06

Uh it stays in a special place until it comes out to play sometimes. I'm gonna use it in the state pro am. Uh nope, I don't think anyone's allowed to use it.

SPEAKER_05

Uh come on, let them use it in our TV2. Yeah, while we get 10 shots.

SPEAKER_01

There you go. I promise I won't break it. Uh what ball are you playing? You're playing a bridgestone, right? I play the Bridgestone Tour BXS. Okay. With the mindset logo. Yeah. McCoy, what's in your bag? You just made a switch.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so I got let's start with the putter. I have a Rossi OG white hot that I've had since probably junior year or high school. I've just always used it. And then last summer I put on a super stroke wrist lock grip. I've always cross-handed, but then the wrist lock just kind of set nicely against my I guess I would say more like my arm. It's not quite a wrist lock. It's in between a wrist lock and an arm lock. And then I got the Cleveland RTZ, I believe, wedges with uh S400 shaft in there, dynamic gold. And then I just put in the CRixon ZX7 irons with a dynamic gold X100 shaft. And that's uh pitching wedge through four iron, and then I have a titalist T250 utility three iron with a I think it's a it's whatever the red tour, like the tour AD, like they have the orange and it's the red shaft. I don't know exactly what it is. Why, do you know?

SPEAKER_06

No, it's the one Tiger plays in this driver, though.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I don't know what it's uh which one it is. And then I have the Ping G440 Max in the Three Wood, and then I have the Ping G440 LST in my driver. And they both have uh uh I think it's uh it's called the whiteboard. Yeah. I'm not uh super I'm not super picky when it comes to clubs. If they fly nice, I'll just play them.

SPEAKER_01

Wyatt knows more about your equipment than you do.

SPEAKER_04

He sure does, yeah. I'm not an equipment. Oh yeah, I play the Pro V1X.

SPEAKER_01

What are you this is a question for both of you that Garrett would ask. I see he's on mute, so I'll ask it. Uh, are you guys tinkers? Do you tinker with stuff or do you not? One shaking yes, one shaking no. McCoy No.

SPEAKER_04

I I never I don't tinker with much at all.

SPEAKER_06

How about you, Wyatt? I tinker all the time. Well, luckily being a golf pro, you have a lot of avenues.

SPEAKER_01

to equipment so I'm always trying something new to find find an edge or something but uh usually it's all the same because when you boil down to it it doesn't really matter that much okay I just like trying new things though all right gee money what do you got for him I like uh I like Wyatt's concept around tinkering what do you tink with man what do you what do you kind of search for or what do you where are you looking for that incremental edge uh putter a lot i i change putters a lot i think mccoy would attest definitely more than yeah probably a rich person probably too much he needs to he needs to give every putter a fair chance yeah i need to learn how to putt would probably help um and then i don't really tinker with driver too much but i mean if the if i find one that can help i'm i'm all in not that i hit it bad it's just i'm weird garrett i have to tell you that mccloy was explaining his putter and i was putting with it um it it's actually quite nice it's like extended so he extended it and then put that arm locks grip on it so it kind of with the crosshand it kind of sits on your forearm a little bit okay and it's it it's actually nice it actually felt nice so I might have to tinker with that a little bit was this something that you kind of just conceptualized why and just kind of put together just oh McCoy McCoy McCoy yeah not me yeah no I it wasn't even me it was uh another member that I play with uh he just like he was looking at the way that I gripped the putter like I because I cross hand and I uh naturally just like shaffling the putter yeah and it was just kind of sitting there like if I would have put on the wrist lock grip it would press against my wrist but because I didn't have a wrist lock grip on it was just kind of like there but not doing anything.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. So he was like hey why don't I extend it like an inch and a half and then throw this grip on and I've just left it ever since okay here's the I I have an idea for the bet.

SPEAKER_05

Alright what you got?

SPEAKER_01

Well this doesn't really benefit Garrett.

SPEAKER_05

Which bet is this?

SPEAKER_01

Them winning the state program. Okay that's okay things don't have to benefit me man uh I'm getting 10 strokes in the 2v2 that's my benefit uh why if you guys don't win the state program you're gonna hook me up with a putting session with your tailor made putter tour rep putter guy deal i i can try and make that work yeah and if you don't win then garrett gets so you do that for me and then garrett gets to bring a four sum out to Presswick to play which that that I can do for sure what does McCoy lose though well he's he's an amateur so we don't want to steal all of his amateur money. He doesn't look overly concerned in his stance right now he's not too worried about losing if they lose then McCoy's gotta donate a day to Great Lakes gear where we're gonna go do some junior clinic at a club with the kids I like that that's good.

SPEAKER_04

Okay deal now all right Wyatt and I haven't discussed but I have an idea in my head of what you have to do okay just throw it out let's go you have to play a full 18 holes in GLG women's gear so a skirt in a women's thing and and you have to play the match against me or Wyatt and film it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god I love this idea isn't that I would have never I would have never even gone there that is beautiful hey I'm not wearing a skirt like no just well do you want to wear like the short shorts that they wear we could call it a kilt man it's fine we'll do we'll do the kill can I wear a kilt no like a a women's golf skirt yeah gotta do it I like this a lot both Garrett and Mikey have to do it for our 2v2 we'll do our 2v2 at Oakland that way we don't get kicked out of Presswick that way we don't get kicked out of press listen listen um I just I don't can't you come up with something a little different okay we'll we'll think about it but I I really like that one I don't know I don't think we can I think that's you don't think you don't think your figure can handle the glg ladies gear no like I wouldn't even fit into it no no this is this is a wonderful idea this went sideways quick didn't McGee like the things I said that they lose like we're gonna do something for like kids with McCoy and then I get to get a putting lesson with uh nothing that has to do with humiliation like humiliation and you gotta film it and we're gonna put it on social media and all that tells me McGee is you got to be more creative.

SPEAKER_05

You gotta think outside the box.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah I would have never gone there nicely done McCoy well played thank you thank you I'll do this I'll let how about this if you guys win the state program you each can pick somebody you want on team great lakes gear and they're on oh I I can't I have no say in it you guys each get to pick somebody you want on it and they're on cool opportunity I'm trying I'm trying to think of like half half the people on the team are like my best friends that I golf with like everyone that I golf with who said they had to be an amazing it could just be my little brother and he could just get free gear. Right always be recruiting okay I don't need that one then you could pick anybody you want and they're on staff all righty we'll consider we'll consider yeah we'll consider I I still like my idea I still like yeah McCoy's idea is pretty good okay then then we're taking this to the next level I will agree to that if if you guys don't win McCoy you have to donate you're giving me a day we're gonna go give back in some junior program.

SPEAKER_05

That's fine I'm all for you setting me up with a putting hole he's gonna make me a putter yeah watch my stroke and everything he's gonna make me a putter and treat me like I'm on tour okay okay and you each have to donate a hundred dollars to the charity of my choice I'm good with that all right fine I'll agree to your thing then I'm fine I am I'll agree to that we're locked in but it's not gonna be a skirt or score it's gonna be a kilt I'm just saying it's gonna be a skirt or yeah all right done bet all right that week oh we're gonna you've better grinding out there yeah all right one footer don't care lining that up oh sorry I cussed first cuss word on the podcast Garrett oh wait is there gonna be a beep is there gonna be a beep over that or yeah there'll be a beep because then I have to check a box yeah beep me up sorry all right anything you got for these two Garrett man McGee I'm just looking forward to getting 10 shots in our 2v2 i'm just gonna sit on that for of them yeah we'll just leave it at that man I can't wait I would like to ask there's that was a very short clubhouse section and we didn't we talked a lot a lot of golf but not quite enough golf yet um boys I mean obviously you you guys are probably a little bit biased and love Presswick as we've discussed but favorite golf course in and around the state of Michigan go ahead what uh god that's such a hard question it's it's one of my favorites because there's so many great golf courses I can go ahead if you're not ready.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah you go ahead I I got two favorites and I got one really overrated in my opinion I love Oakland Hills South and I love Kingsley.

SPEAKER_05

Okay my overrated course is Crystal Downs interesting I'll do the same I'll do two I love and an overrated okay I birchwood farms hard springs which nines uh we played the woods and oh I can't remember the other one there are the woods standing on the first tee is unreal it is that is the heck looking into Lake Michigan it's beautiful how cool is that and it's it's one almost like you get on property there and you don't even expect to see that it just no not at all all of a sudden just the orientation geographically like when you're pulling on property and hitting range balls and then you go tee off you don't expect that view and it does it catches you by surprise. Not at all when I stood on that first tee I was like this is amazing it's a cool spot yeah great spot uh and then I really liked hidden river as well also a great spot I haven't had the up yet but I love the place man I've been there to eat a few times and yeah kind of tucked away hidden gem great spot yeah hidden river's good played it for the first time last year and I think we're playing birchwood before the state program this year so I'm excited to see that nice you guys will that'll that'll be fun overrated I might catch a little hate for this I think Arcadia Bluffs is a little overrated have you played have you played the South I have I think the South is better oh I'm not gonna disagree there have either the south is better too have either of you played the dozen yet I have not no great concept great golf course I think more places obviously not everybody has the opportunity to do what they did but short courses man up and coming I got to play the dozen for the first time maybe two weeks ago and just a great collection of par threes and par fours great for a game with your buddies great i mean you can rip the thing in like two hours it's efficient um super fun so if you got if you guys do get back up to Arcadia definitely go play the dozen saying the views aren't amazing I'm just saying the golf course isn't great I'm not hating on the beats that I don't think that's an uncommon opinion um people either love it because they're like oh my gosh this is best place ever or they're in that camp they're like it's fun it's great but it's a little overrated in my book it's absolutely jaw dropping but the golf course itself if you take the lake away it's nothing special yeah Garrett have you played the short course at uh Boeing the new one they made I did not take advantage of that opportunity last year um McGee was that state prime week or midam week was state prime so no I I have not played the short course at Boeing pretty pretty fun pretty cool no I haven't played either gosh we were I played it last year um it was very new so you know but it was fun it's uh it's a walk because it's right on the side of a ski mountain yeah yeah no it's on the hill so it's not an easy like you get a workout walking that and playing that it looked gorgeous and I I seriously like I said this could this could be a whole nother podcast episode but I love that more properties are doing stuff like that whether it's Manisty National Arcadia Bluffs Boeing the short course man it's great golfing experience I heard uh we're getting long so we gotta cut this uh off here in a sec but I I wanna I'm gonna throw this out I was listening to a recap on the PGA championship um on the radio when I was on the road today and it was uh Colt Nost and gravy in the sleeve on sleaze on PGA tour radio and uh um but it was Colt and another guest because sleaze is playing in the US four ball right now.

SPEAKER_01

So but they were saying that Mike Trout the baseball player uh built Trout National and it's like 45 minutes outside of Philly and they were talking about everything that this course has and I'm like to me I'm like that's the future of golf it's like the routing of it you don't go back to the clubhouse after nine and stop and get drinks like you do it after eight and like ten. They they like there's a little area and you can stop and get lunch and groups just go through um a little par three court like they're just explaining everything the course has and I'm like that I just that's the future of golf in my mind it's like a golf course but yet it's a a dining experience like with the guys or gals as well but it's also like a little par three course or like you're saying the dozen like a little six hole course like it gives you a little bit of everything.

SPEAKER_05

I think that's the future of golf I don't disagree man I think it's gonna play a big part.

SPEAKER_01

All right Wyatt McCoy you got anything for us before we go and wrap it up I got nothing nothing let's hear your two favorites and overrated yeah I like that actually I'll go Garrett first letter written my two faves I would say are I love four stunes the original four stunes golf course I just love the layout I I just love the I love that golf course ever since they built it I've loved it um so that would be one of my faves Kingsley Club is just a fun place to go play golf um if you're with a group of guys I would think Kingsley Club's just a great place to go play golf so I would say those two probably my most overrated it's interesting you said Crystal Downs and the reason I think it's interesting is because I've played that course twice. One time I played it when I was playing really good golf and I had a blast and then I played it once and I was not playing well and it was a completely different experience uh from when I played it when it when I was playing well so I could see how like I was like yeah just get me out of here um man overrated I think a lot of golf courses like this is a bad question for me I think there's a lot of golf courses that are just overrated so and I don't want to um I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings with that so I'm I'm gonna choose to plead the fifth and not answer that question.

SPEAKER_05

You like eagle eye though right well I love eagle eye did you ever get your wedge out of the pond on five no I did not shots fired shots fired I just had to bring that up didn't you I did I wasn't even there for it I just loved the story shoot um I'll give you I'll give you guys a couple uh to kind of wrap up this section but instead of two favorites and an overrated I'm actually going to give you just kind of three favorites the overrated is is tough because going back to the beginning of this is we've got so much great golf in west michigan northern Michigan eastern Michigan central Michigan and and having I mean covering that geography for Taylor Maid and getting in and out of all these golf shops and seeing all these courses they they've all got something unique to offer um but I'm gonna give you three of my personal faves and treetops I think treetops is a really cool golf experience if you guys have or have not been up there um I get up there the last couple of years for their Pepsi challenge at the back end of the summer season and great event you get to play three courses four man scramble just incredible golf experience great views especially after last year when that ice storm knocked out a ton of the trees it's if you haven't been up there since those golf courses are vastly different than they used to be um also love harbor shores harbor shores down there I play in a Wednesday skins game uh with Jackson Davison and a group of his guys a few times a summer and I think that's another great golf destination and experience and then kind of more ours area McGee Grand Rapids if you will a little bit north Tollymore I think Tollymore is one that doesn't get talked about often but up there in Canadian lakes really really special really unique northern Michigan golf experience that is worth worth the visit I agree 100% I think St.

SPEAKER_01

Ives and Tollymore I would I could play those every day I'm sorry I think pilgrim's run is really underrated yeah yeah that's a good run it's a great one yep great spot too harbor shores is a deep pull a lot of people would probably disagree with you on that one dude it's it's a golf course man that is I have a hard time with Nicholas designs I have a hard time playing them I enjoy the challenge of them um it's I I actually like harbor shores a lot i i love it because it's a golf course that you step on that first tee from the first tee to the 18th green you're challenged in so many different ways and that golf course commands your attention on every single shot from the moment you tee off and I think that's an absolute blast have you have you played lost dunes I have not had the opportunity to play lost dunes uh been on property a number of times and obviously great golf course looks incredible I've would absolutely love to play it I have not either any of you guys played it I have not I would love to it looks awesome yeah have you played point of woods I have played point of woods also that's a good one yep that's the thing is man you can just the list goes on and on and on about with great spots Michigan has a lot of great golf courses like Prestwick's a great golf course and I know you guys look you know you play it every day I get it but as far as a golf course to go out where you hit pretty much every club in your bag in uh depending on how you want to play it like it it's always in good shape that's a great golf course like there's a lot of we're talking about destination courses I think Michigan has a ton of great private clubs and if we want to talk about in West Michigan you know the thorn apples and quail ridges and we were just at the mines or whatever. Um but there's a lot of great franklin hills is a great golf course unreal right I mean we could go on and on about the great tracks in in the state of Michigan you know but the we're leaving the best one out though what Oakland Oakland golf course yeah uh when Simon owned it it was great it's still the greatest golf course in the world who owns it now uh I know Ray runs it I don't know who owns it I think he's a part owner okay all right boys are we gonna end on that Oak Lane is a great golf course good ending I got we have to listeners okay um do you remember when this was like 10 years ago remember when they had those pure Michigan commercials on the radio and everything and Tim Allen was like the voiceover and they would pick cities and they would say you know from the streams of the glistening water to the those were majestic remember those commercials yeah totally okay so I am listening driving down the road I remember listening to it and they made this place sound amazing and I'm like where is this place? What are they talking about? And they go to so come visit Mount Pleasant Michigan and and I'm like if I lived in Ohio or Indiana out of all the places you could go to Michigan if I heard that commercial and I went and vacationed in Mount Pleasant Michigan I would sue whoever made that commercial and say you made Mount Pleasant sound like the best place in the state of Michigan and also there's a college here and there's a casino and a couple good golf courses okay a couple so for all of our listeners we are saying Oak Lane do not run in to Oak Lane definitely run to Oak Lane expecting a five star golf course Oak Lane is a very nice hometown track where Wyatt grew up and he loves Oak Lane we love Oak Lane we love that Wyatt loves Oak Lane but I just want to be clarified because I don't want any hate mail people sending an email which we we didn't we never put out an email um do you want to put out an email not saltygolf at gmail.com if you want to email us some questions not saltygolf at gmail.com but I'm just saying we're not saying these golf courses we're talking about are destination golf courses oak lane is Wyatt's hometown golf course in Williamston Michigan Weberville Weberville Michigan I'm sorry all right McCoy last words oh man I can't wait to see you tomorrow Mikey that's my last words hey see McCoy loves me all right boys I appreciate you coming on I can't wait to see a couple weeks all right we'll talk to you good see you guys hey everybody we just got back from the state pro am I got back last night we're getting this podcast out so I wanted to give you all a little update McCoy and Wyatt did not win the state pro am they had a rough first day played better the second day but left a few out there they ran into a bust some of though Julian Messner and his partner Brian Cairns they went on a tear on Sunday and they're the winners of the state program so congrats to them but just wanted to let everybody know that uh McCoy and Wyatt will be paying their bet as they did not win and so we look forward to collecting on that thanks for listening to the Not Salty Podcast and until next time enjoy the summer weather and play some good golf thank you
