Pentecost is about being happy.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_01I'm so proud of you all for coming to church today. Look, Bill, I already have it. I'm so proud of you for coming to church today on Memorial Day weekend. Typically, that is not a very well-attended Sunday, but I'm so proud of you. Look at this. I am happy. I am happy that you are here. Give yourself a pat on the back. All right, way to go. You made it. You know, I you know, I I would say to people that I think there's a spiritual fight on Sunday morning. What do you think? I mean, do you always feel like getting up and coming to church? I don't. I'm one of the pastors. I mean, it's real, right? But isn't it feel good when you get here? You're like, I was supposed to be here today. I needed this. And you, it's different in person. And of course, I appreciate watching online. I have been very blessed at times when I have had the opportunity to watch online because I haven't been maybe sick or out of town or whatever the situation is. But gentlemen, you can wait upon us for the morning offering. So since it's Pentecost Sunday, um, I want you, I said gentlemen, but there is also a gentlewoman, a little woman right here, helping us today with the offering. Can you give a nice hand to Eliza for being Eliza for being helpful today? I love to see kids serving the house of the Lord. Flag her down, help her out. She's got on those cute little boots. Don't click your heels three times, you might go somewhere else. We're gonna be in John chapter 16 today, and I am gonna be reading from the English Standard Version. But before we get to Pentecost, can I give you a little history lesson? Is that okay? All right, tell your neighbors say we're about to be in class. We're about to go to class this morning. We're gonna have a little history lesson about Pentecost. So in Hebrew culture, this is one of the three festivals that God instituted. Now, when did he institute this festival? Well, it starts with Exodus. The children of Israel are enslaved in where? Where are they enslaved? Starts with an E. Egypt, that's right, they're in Egypt, they're slaves, but the Lord delivers them. And remember, the final plague is the angel of death will pass over, but everyone that has the blood of the lamb on their doorpost, the angel will pass over. So when this happens, the children of Israel are they leave the next day. You know, they leave the next day. There finally, the Egyptians are like, take this gold, take this stuff, just please get out, right? Get out. They finally release them. You know the story. Pharaoh chases them down, the Lord opens the Red Sea. Exodus is an incredible book to read. If you want a good Bible read, anybody in here love to read the Bible. If you want a good Bible read, Exodus is a fantastic book. There's so many incredible things that are happening there. So they leave, they have the Passover, they escape, and they are now in freedom. And 50 days later, they find themselves on the mount called Sinai. How many people have heard that? The mountain of Sinai. Hi, Christy Brown. I'm just looking at you like you're here every week. And then all of a sudden, my brain was like, she moved to Florida. She's visiting. Hello. And Mike, of course. Hello. Welcome to you also. So we have the Passover, and 50 days later, they find themselves on the mount called Sinai, where Moses receives the 10 suggestions from God. Oh no, they're not suggestions. What are they called? Commandments. These are not options, right? This is what God wants you to do. They receive the law. So the word Pentecost means 50. Everybody say 50. So 50 days from Passover, they receive the law on Mount Sinai, and they commemorate that happening by calling that Pentecost. Everybody say Pentecost. 50 days after Passover. Now Jesus would grow up celebrating these festivals for sure, right? He's going to attend these festivals. There are three festivals that require every Hebrew man to travel by foot and to come all the way to Jerusalem to celebrate in God's house. They are Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles. Was that right? I thought that was right. Okay. Passover, Pentecost, and Feast of Tabernacles or the Feast of Booths in that order. Now, also the Feast of Pentecost, the 50 days after Passover, it also celebrates first fruit. Tell your neighbor first fruits. So this is sometimes it's even referred to as the feast of ingathering. It means like we are going to thank the Lord for his produce. Now, we have become a grocery store society, right? But long, long time ago, um, even in the beginning of our country, what you had to eat was what you grew from your land. Can you imagine if we had to go back to that now? I mean, my God, I can't even keep a mom alive. My family would be skinny. We'd be so skinny because we don't know how to garden. We don't know, I can't even grow a tomato, right? James can. And my mother-in-law, James' mom, she was an excellent gardener, moved to the middle of the desert, the hottest part of the United States in Welton, Arizona. It's right down there, it's like between Mexico and California. It's the hottest place in America. And that woman grew a garden. I could not believe it. I was like, only your mom could do this. And they had fruit trees and all of these beautiful things, and they were very plentiful. But it was a way to thank God for the harvest. And that's why we should pray before we eat. Amen. That is your recognition. This food came from God, and I am grateful for it. Woo! Amen. Amen. Just miss one meal and then you'll be thankful, right? There are plenty of people around the world who won't even eat today, but we're gonna eat multiple times. We have so much food, we have food that goes bad. And we have to throw it away. Do you know that's unthinkable in some cultures? That's really difficult for them to think. So are we grateful to God today for his the fruit that he gives us, the prosperity that we have? Amen. Come on, raise your hand, tell the Lord, thank you. Thank you, God, thank you for providing for my family. Also, the feast of Pentecost, which in Hebrew is called Shavo, it means um there's a demonstration of unity. All right? So there's a demonstration of unity on this day. Now think about this. Why, how does that work its way into Pentecost? Well, because the children of Israel were enslaved in Egypt. It's all they knew. Does anybody know the number of years that they were enslaved? Starts with a four. 400, everybody say 400. 400 years. Slavery is all they know. This is what they think they were created to be, is to um create prosperity for someone else. They will never enjoy it. They will never get to enjoy the fruit of their labor. But when God takes the children of Israel out of Exodus, and when you read Exodus, it's beautiful to see how God takes these people who have God never created them to be slaves, first of all, never created them to be slaves. He gathers them, he takes them out, and he begins to tell them, you are not slaves, you were not meant to just build prosperity for others. You are a nation, and you are a nation that carries my name, and I will prosper you, and I will make you one people, and you will serve one God, you will be of one mind and one accord. Does that sound familiar as we get down into the New Testament? How many people know Acts chapter 2? My Lord, if you've grown up in any kind of charismatic movement and you don't know what Acts chapter 2, you are a pretender. You were not in a charismatic church. I remember being in Bible studies where I was shocked that people did not know what happened in Acts chapter 2. We were talking about Exodus and how the wind came and blew out all the locusts. Remember that plague? The wind blew them in and the wind blew them out. And one of the spirit-filled people in the room said, that's just like the wind in Acts chapter 2 that comes in and it blows through our hearts and our minds and it carries out the sin of the world. And this little sweet lady raised her hand. She said, Now, where did you say that wind was in the New Testament? And my friend sitting next to me said, My God, what do they teach at that church? She was so appalled that she didn't know about Acts chapter 2. If you grew up in an Acts chapter 2 church, say amen. You better say amen, Drake. You did. I was your kids' church teacher. You better know about the Holy Ghost and know where it is. So here we are, Passover, 50 days, and then Pentecost, right? It's the giving of the law. Now, let's before we get to John 16, can I tell you a little bit, just give you a quick summary of what happened in John 15? John is also a great Bible reading book, right? That is a great book for beginners. I would say if you're a real beginner, start with Mark. He's more concise and to the point. But if you've read Mark and now you really want to know the expanded version, then go to John and learn from John because John gives this great teaching and words of Jesus. And it starts in John chapter 15. Now let me tell you what is happening in time. Are you with me? All right. So in time, this is what's happening. Jesus has celebrated Passover and Pentecost from the time he was born, right? He celebrated that. He actually designed it so they didn't really have to tell him what to do. But he participated in it and his flesh. And so this is going to be his very last Passover on earth. He knows that. If something is about to change, and something is about to be different, isn't it always helpful if someone explains that to us? If someone says, this is gonna change, here's how it's going to change. I know change feels scary, but don't worry, this is what's gonna help you, right? I mean, when you like, I mean, you just had a baby, right? And so now you know things are gonna change. Luckily, you've done it before. So, but it is helpful. How many people read books, went to classes when you were gonna have your first baby? That was sorely inadequate. I'm just gonna say, like, that little baby comes and you're like, oh my goodness, I need help. Hotline, I need somebody to move into this house. Nobody said, How do you take a shower and this kid is screaming and crying, or how do you just like wash your face and brush your teeth, right? Um, so when things are changing, it's helpful if we know a little something. So in John chapter 15, Jesus is telling them, first of all, he teaches them, I am the vine, you are the branches. And unless the branch is connected to the vine, it cannot bear fruit. Remember that Pentecost is the celebration of first fruits. He also teaches them that they should bear fruit. There should be fruit that comes from your life. Can you say amen? There should be good fruit. And then he says, Great news, guys. You're gonna talk to the world about what you have witnessed, and everyone is gonna hate you. And they're like, Woo, what? Everyone is gonna hate you. But I love this, what Jesus said. The world will hate you, but I have chosen you. Woo! Go on, devil. Hate all you want to hate. Because Taylor Swift already wrote the song about it. Haters gonna hate. But here's what Jesus said at first the world will hate you, but I have chosen you. Tell your neighbor you're chosen. You're chosen. It's okay if people don't like you. Why is he saying all this? Because things are about to change, right? There's about to be something different. Let's go to John chapter 15, and we're gonna start in verse 26. Jesus starts telling them at the beginning of 15, I am going, I'm sorry, this isn't 15. Jesus is going to say he is going to go away. But let's look at 15. I know I said 16, but 15, verse 26. Jesus said this, but when the helper comes, now in some translations it says comforter. Can everybody say comforter? Isn't it nice to have someone that comforts you? Yes. The Holy Spirit is a comforter. Can you say amen? Amen. But when the helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me, and you will also bear witness because you have been with me from the beginning. I have said all these things to keep you from falling away. Why did Jesus tell them that? He did not want them to be surprised when bad things happened. He did not want them to be surprised when they were drugged out of the synagogues and beaten, left for dead. He did not want them to be surprised when they were martyred and bring discouragement. He's telling, I'm telling you, there's going to be a great falling away. But listen to Jesus, they will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think that he is doing a service to God. And they will do these things because they do not know the Father. Woo! Don't you know there are church folks that don't do not know? There were some people that will show up in heaven and say, Didn't we cast out demons in your name? Didn't we do this? And didn't we do this? And the Lord will say, Depart from me, I never knew you. So how important is it to listen to these words right here? Does that ever make anybody nervous? I mean, that that makes me nervous. But I'm glad that there is a spirit of truth in Christ Jesus that will tell you the truth. Now, if you're a husband, you can't always tell the truth. Because if your wife says, Do I look fat? The answer is always, always, always no. Now she's gonna say, I want you to tell me the truth. Don't fall into that trap. The enemy has set a trap for you, but I have made a way of escape. You will think, should I tell her it looks like she put on a few pounds, but she still looks good? No, you should not. Under any circumstance. If she looks like two-ton Tilly, you say, You look great. You're welcome. That's for free, and that's how you stay married. All right, can you say hallelujah? Thank you, Jesus. The spirit of truth, he's gonna tell us the truth. He said, I have said these things to you that when the hour comes, you will remember that I told you I did not say these things from the beginning because I was with you, but now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you have asked, Where are you going? But because I have said these things, then I'm going, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. Now, can we just chew on that for just a little moment? How good is the Holy Ghost that Jesus Himself said, I am gonna go away because it is for your benefit. It is better for me to be bodily separate for you so that the Holy Ghost can be released into the power of the earth. It's not when Jesus was on earth, he's fully God, but he's also fully man. So there are limits. The people that are coming to teach him, there's only so many people that he can impact in that moment, only so many people he can touch, only so many people that he can heal. But when the power of the Holy Ghost woo is unleashed on the earth, thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people can be touched by the power of the Holy Ghost in one moment.
unknownWoo!
SPEAKER_01Now that seemed impossible, I think, to a first century man, but we can all get a notification on our phone about some kind of weather pattern. And thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people, their phones will go. You know, we're all like, oh my gosh, it's a tornado. So this is technology that God had way before Apple. When we say there is nothing new under the sun, literally, literally, God is in everything. And everything that man creates on earth is just a copy of something that God can already do. Can you say amen? Now, listen, I need you to be a little more exuberant, okay? What if I tell you I will preach less if you shout more? Pastor Greg had a great idea today. In order to come to church here, you need to say amen out loud at least one time in the service. All right, you cannot count that one. You can't count that one. Aura praise God. You can say, Praise God. You can say hallelujah. You can say preach it. All right, all right. None of those count though. Just wait for your moment, okay? Wait for your moment. It is for your advantage that I go away. So, in one, when we have the outpouring of the Holy Ghost, immediately 3,000 people are added to the church after one sermon. The very first sermon after the outpouring of the Holy Ghost brought 3,000 people into the fold. And this is the Genesis or the beginning of the church. In verse 12, I believe I'm in um John chapter 16 now. In verse 12, Jesus said, I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Do you know? I I was or remember that my dad would say to me, I would say, you know, dad, some people say, I don't need to go to college because the Holy Ghost will teach me what I need to know. I don't need to finish school because the Holy Ghost will teach me. I'm dependent on the Holy Ghost is my teacher. And my dad would say, Yeah, but the Holy Ghost can only teach you to what your mind can understand. So increase your education so that you can understand the Lord better, right? So when you go to school, you do not start with calculus, you start with addition and subtraction, and then you start learning multiplication and division, right? You cannot understand this concept until you have mastered this concept. So Jesus is saying to them, I have so much stuff, I have many things yet to tell you, but you're not ready for it. Not because they're bad, just because that's the nature of learning. Can you say amen? That's practical. But then Jesus says, when the spirit of truth, when the Holy Ghost comes, he will teach you all things. You're gonna learn so much more. So being in the presence of God, having the Spirit of God living inside of you, the Holy Ghost becomes your teacher. And you'll read the scripture and you'll be like, I never saw that before. And that's the most incredible thing about reading the word of God. If you read the Bible and you know that to be true, can you just raise your hand? Just look around at the people that say, I wear this scripture over and over, but today the word is alive and the Holy Ghost spoke a word to my heart that meant something different to me, and it fueled me and it helped me. That's the power of the Holy Spirit. So when the Spirit of truth comes in verse 13, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He doesn't speak of his own authority. So when the Holy Spirit speaks to you, it's coming directly from God. Gay doesn't get to talk unless God tells him to talk. Woo! Think about that. He doesn't get to just say any old thing he wants to say, he has to speak the truth. So the Holy Spirit is coming to you to speak the truth with the authority of God to strengthen you and to make you a witness to the power of Jesus Christ. Come on, somebody. Now that's better than Wheaties. You could eat Wheaties your whole life and not get something that good. Now, what happens next? Well, Jesus has the Passover with his friends. He's done this many, many times, right? And he this is the last one. And in Acts chapter one, he presents himself, Luke. We think this is pretty sure this is Luke that wrote the book of Acts. Luke, who also bore witness to the resurrected Christ. He begins to tell in Acts chapter 1, verse 3, Jesus presented himself alive to them after suffering by many proofs. Remember, immediately they're like, oh my gosh, you're alive, you're alive. I just love this whole scene. I can just imagine it. They're just in shock. They can't believe it. Jesus keeps popping in and out of rooms, and then all of a sudden he's like, I mean, do you guys have anything to eat? That's a proof, though. A proof that he was in a physical body. Amen. It's not just resurrected into some different body, it's his physical body that was resurrected. So Luke says he gave us many proofs, appearing to them 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them, he ordered them don't leave Jerusalem. Everybody say, Don't leave Jerusalem. Stay right here. Because there's something that's gonna happen. Wait for the promise of the Father, which he said, you heard from me. For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. Now, a lot of times we think the New Testament begins with the book of Matthew. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. I heard one teacher teach it like this the beginning of the New Testament is Acts because it connects us all the way back to Genesis. So you cannot have a New Testament, a New Testament, until the testator dies. You cannot have the benefits that the heir is to receive until the testator dies. So the minute that Jesus gives up the ghost and says it is finished, then now the air, the benefits, the prosperity, the power of the Holy Spirit is ready to come to pour out and to deliver it to the believers that are there in the room. It's the fruit of Jesus, it's the law that becomes alive in Jesus, it's the unity that it brings in the body of Christ. We are no longer wandering to and fro like children. We are a royal priesthood. We are a holy nation and we are gathered together under one name, and that name is Jesus. Can you say Jesus? Woo! Hallelujah. The power of Pentecost is so great. So we know in Acts chapter 2, they're gathered in this room. They're waiting. Believe you me, they know that Pentecost is coming. I think that these people, this 120 people that are waiting in this room could possibly be anticipating something is probably gonna happen on Pentecost because it's a massive celebration. So they're waiting in anticipation for whatever Jesus told them to wait, and they will be endued with power. And so they are all in the upper room, right? And by the way, the upper room, it is the coolest thing in the whole wide world. You go in this upper room, it's very cavernous. And if you've never been to Israel, I'm just gonna tell you right now if you can put $5 away a week, then do it. $10 away a week, then do it. Because you will be revolutionized by walking the land of Israel. It will teach you things that you cannot learn in a book. But you walk into this cavernous room and it's very ornate, and you can imagine it has windows, and the windows, you know, it's like open air. So you can imagine like the wind is filling the room. It came in like suddenly there was a sound. The Holy Ghost had a sound, and it was like what? A mighty rushing wind, and the sound filled the room where they were sitting, and there appeared upon them cloven tongues like a flame of fire, and it sat upon their heads, and they began to speak with other languages. They began to speak in tongues, they were all in one place, one mind, of one accord. Go back to Genesis. Can we just go back there real quick? Let's walk back here to Genesis. In the beginning, the earth was without form, it was chaotic, right? But the spirit of the Lord hovered over the face of the deep. The spirit of the Lord, Genesis tells us, begins to move. So the spirit of the Lord was hovering, the spirit of the Lord began to move, and suddenly there was a sound, and the spirit of the Lord had a language, and the language spoke out and said, Let there be light. And there was light, but there was no sun. You know that about Genesis? God created light before he created a sun. I love when God is just awesome. That was just awesome. If you're from Southern Indiana, we say awesome, don't we? We learned a new word yesterday. Southern Indiana. It says, but I don't. What are y'all gonna do? We're gonna we're gonna go and McDonald's. Bom, I don't want to do that. People in our area of the country, we understand bound. Not for all people. Thank God that God has a language, his language is way better than ours. All right. There is a hovering and a moving, there is a sound, there is a language, and what happens? God creates something new. Genesis. So we think, I mean, I'll speak for myself. I think that in Acts chapter 2, suddenly the room was filled. Like God was like, hey, I know what to do. Let's make a big wind and we'll release the power of the Holy Spirit. But actually, this was the strategic plan from the beginning for the Spirit of God to be released to the earth and into the universe, that God would hover, that He would move, that He would set fire, that He would have a language, that He would speak, that He would have a sound, and something new would be created in the church. So in the middle, when you have the death, burial, and the resurrection of Jesus, and He says, You wait here until you are endued upon power. 50 days after Passover, we're right here in Pentecost, and suddenly the Spirit comes in the room and he sits on them. And then the spirit begins to move, and the spirit has a sound. I mean, if you live here and you have ever heard a tornado, and I know you have if you've been living here, you have heard a tornado. You know what the rushing mighty wind sounds like? It was a sound. I wonder if they felt anything. Wouldn't that be something if they just heard it but they didn't feel it? I don't know. That's a question for some other ADHD person like me. But they're in the room and there's a sound, and there's a fire, and it sits on each of them. See, Jesus was limited when he's telling the disciples, it is better for you, it is advantageous to you if I go away, because until I go away, the spirit cannot come to you. When I am here, when Jesus is here on earth, I can be with you and I can talk to you. But when the comforter comes, whoa, come on, somebody in here, act like you're spirit-filled. When the power of God comes, when the Holy Ghost comes, when the Holy Ghost is poured out, now I'm going to live in you and I am going to talk through you before I can only be with you and talk to you, but now I'm gonna be in you and talk through you. And I'm gonna give you a language. And so if you're like, I don't really know about this speaking in tongues stuff, like my friend's sweet friend Terry, she came from a sweet little church where they did not speak in tongues. And after the couple Sundays, you know, it's just inevitable, it will get wild. And so she said, I don't know about this stuff people are saying. And she needed some explanation about that. Now, she hasn't spoken in tongues yet, but I am waiting for the day. She's probably like, Oh my gosh, be quiet right now. When the twins, she has twin girls that are the same age as Lindy, they all went to church camp. And you know, church camp, we get down. If you want to volunteer and see some Holy Ghost move, you ought to volunteer for youth camp. And you know what? The people that are praying for the kids, sometimes they get they get blessed, right? And they get filled, and now they're on the floor carrying on. It's wonderful, it's absolutely wonderful. But the twins were not prepared for that, and I think they felt a little scared, but they also felt drawn to it. And so they were little bitty. I don't remember how old they were, but I was hearing the girls, people were getting slain in the spirit, and so one of the twins said, I don't think God loves me. And Lindy said, Why? And she said, I didn't fall down. And Lindy said, Oh, you don't need to fall down, just lay down. She's like, No, oh no, uh-uh. No, God loves you. If you want to fall down in the spirit, just lay down, just lay down and enjoy. And you know what the next night they all did, they all just laid down. Didn't nobody pray for them. They're just like, okay, I found a spot, I'm gonna lay down. But isn't that just like Jesus? Like, if you just want to be in the presence of the Lord, just choose that. Just choose that to be in the presence of the Lord and let the presence of the Lord overwhelm you where you're not in control. Now, the presence of the Lord can speak through you through tongues. That is a language that your brain will not understand. You will not understand the words that are coming out your mouth, and that is not weird because there are plenty of people speaking English that I look at them and say, I don't think you understand the words that are coming out your mouth. So that is not unusual. The words coming out your mouth you will not understand. But I will tell you this in your spirit, man, the spirit of God is now in you, right? You follow me? Your spirit, man, knows something, it feels the burden of what you're praying. It is saying, like, I love you, Lord, I worship you, I adore you, or maybe it's like, God, I need this, I'm crying out, I'm pleaing for this. And you watch in the Bible, when you read the Bible, you better not make his children cry. When his children cry out for him and earnestly seek him, God will move every time. So sometimes it isn't about God doesn't want to move, it's that we are we don't care enough. We're not earnestly speaking, but the spirit of God will come in you, speak through you, and you'll be praying things that you couldn't never put words. You couldn't never put words to the feeling that you're trying you're communicating to God in that moment. Another way that the Spirit of God and the Holy Ghost can speak through you in a language is that suddenly you'll be praying for someone or talking to someone or thinking about someone, and you will recognize that God is saying to you, I want you to say this to them. And you will know it is not your thought. Can anybody, and has that happened to anybody before? The Spirit of the Lord told you to say something, and has anybody double-checked? Been like, okay, you want me to do what? Say what to them, but you'll know. Because a lot of times when you walk away from that situation, someone will say, you'll be telling someone, you'll be testifying about it, and then they'll say, What did you say? You'll be like, I don't even know. Because it wasn't my word. The spirit that was in me began to speak through me. If you're with me, say amen. Have you ever felt that, Joe? The spirit of the Lord talking through you. He's talking to Joni right now. You don't know. I mean, maybe he can't hear me. He who has ears, let him hear what the pastor has to say. Joe, have you ever felt the power of the Lord when you're in the prison ministering to young men and young women? Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit tell you what to say? Yes, I knew it. I knew it. The Lord will put you somewhere and teach you what to say. And I love that Jesus told them in John chapter 15 in this world, you will have trouble. You will have trouble. They are gonna torture you, lead you out of the synagogue. He told them everything that they were gonna do. Isn't that helpful though? But that's to us too. Your life is not gonna be like a skip down the yellow brick road. Bad things happen to good people. If you've lived long enough, you know that to be true. But I will tell you this the Holy Ghost will protect you, the Holy Ghost will help you, and even if you suffer, it'll be suffering for the cause of Christ. And suffering came before the Holy Ghost was released, and there is no kind of Christian walk that doesn't involve suffering. But the seed of the Holy Ghost is gonna make something of it. God doesn't waste one thing. If the devil attacks my life, I'm like, ooh, you're gonna get it. You are gonna get it. And I don't know when it's gonna be, but I'll tell you, I will have a Pentecost moment where the Lord will come in and the Holy Ghost will start to move, and there will be a sound and it will fill the room, and there is gonna be a language, and God is gonna speak, and there will be something new come out of this. And I'm determined to do it. I am not gonna let the enemy act the full in my life and not pay for it. And you shouldn't either. And here's one more little bit. It's just 1202. Is this okay? One more little bit. When the Spirit of the Lord hovered, moved, spoke, and created, God brought order into chaos. So if you're living your life with a bad diagnosis, Danny, or trouble in your marriage, or you're like, I am lost. I don't know what direction I should be going in my life. Like, I feel confused about this. You need the Holy Ghost. You know why you need the Holy Ghost? Because the Holy Ghost will hover, the Holy Ghost will move, the Holy Ghost will speak, and the Holy Ghost will create something new, and the Holy Ghost will bring order to chaos. So that storm that's trying to rage in your life, the Lord of lords will wake up out of that boat and be like, peace be still. How many people believe that the Lord just said that quietly? I've seen some people who preach like Jesus got out of the boat. Like, that's how I do my children, and it does not work. I think Jesus just got up sleepy and was like, peace be still. Because the Holy Spirit doesn't do anything without the authority of the Father. Tell your neighbor, I'm all write this down. I'm all remember this. Last week we had a kid, or the last time I preached, does anybody remember we talked about double down? So I Shantae told me this, but the baby was acting up. And she stole the she stole Shantae's birthday presents, and she was just running with them like as little fast as her little legs could take her, and she was screaming and hollering because she knew as soon as they caught her they were gonna take those presents away from her. And so Shantae was running and she was running and they were screaming and hollering, and one of the big kids from upstairs said, Double down, mommy, double down. Yeah, double down moment. But I wanted my dad to share with you today about the power of the Holy Ghost, and you can come be with us, musicians. I wanted you to share, and Bill, can you turn him around so everybody can see him good?
SPEAKER_00Whatever. Is your microphone on?
SPEAKER_01It's the black mic. Oh, it is on.
SPEAKER_00Well, I wanted to tell you and the church about the Holy Ghost just for a second. Uh, about the history of this church. Frank J. Urt was in uh Azusa Street. He came to Carbondale, Illinois. He hired the best singers he could find. They were the Bell sisters. That was your great-great-grandmother uh Lena, and they came and sang, and so the crowd came to hear them sing. And he didn't have a place to stay, so they went back to his home, not in a car, in a wagon. Cars weren't there yet, and in a wagon, and your grandmother, Helen Van Hoos, the next night received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues.
SPEAKER_01And she was a little girl.
SPEAKER_00She was a little girl, first one in Illinois, in southern Illinois, to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Was from your family. Yes. From your family. And then she was family. She taught Brother Van. And then he got a hold of Frank J. Urt and became uh got a lesson from him on how to believe the Lord. And Frank J. Uurt was the first one to baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Wow. That's amazing. And then uh it came to this church. He didn't come to Evansville uh during World War II.
SPEAKER_01Seeing your dad.
SPEAKER_00My dad did not come here to get people saved. People were already saved. But there was not a single church in Evansville that baptized people with the Holy Ghost. It wasn't here. There was Mama Allen had a little house uh ministry in her house. But when he came here, Judy Jacobs uh was the first one baptized from our church. She was baptized by Brother Van. And when he put her under the water, she came up speaking in tongues. She was the first one to speak in tongues in Evansville, Indiana, as far as we know. It's the this church has a heritage. This church has a past that it's anointing, yes, it comes on us. Let me tell you one last thing. A man's carrying, I I learned this a long time ago. I don't know if I thought this up or if I heard it. I don't know. But a man had a cup of coffee. He was coming through the room. A guy bumped into him and he spilled the coffee. Now, who was responsible for spilling the coffee? You might think it's the man. No, no. If he was carrying water, he'd have spilled water. If he was carrying nothing, he would have spilled nothing. But when you're carrying the Holy Ghost, when the Holy Ghost gets in you, when the Holy Ghost starts talking through you, when you're carrying that, if somebody bumps into you, you spill over on the Holy Ghost, you spill over the power of God onto other people, and other people get it because you got it. Woo! What have you got? What are you walking with in your cup? Do you have anything this morning? If you don't have anything, I would come down here to this altar and I would say that God fill me with the Holy Ghost. Fill my cup, Lord. I lift it up, Lord. Oh, thank you, Jesus. Oh, so I know you uh I know you're filled with the Holy Ghost because your mom was filled with the Holy Ghost. I fell in love with her because of the way she worshiped. The way she worshiped got my attention. I got filled with the Holy Ghost. You got filled with the Holy Ghost. We're all getting filled with the Holy Ghost. Guys, why? Because the Spirit of God is gonna cause us to leave this over someday. We're going up and out. I I'm glad I have the Holy Ghost. No, no, I don't have the Holy Ghost. I don't have it. It has me. It's got me. Praise God. Praise God.
SPEAKER_01I would like to invite you today. If you feel like I would love to feel the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. I would love to feel that. I would like to invite you today. If you've never spoken tongues or if you speak in tongues frequently, I can tell you this: you can't get filled with the Holy Ghost if there aren't other people around you that have the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. So I encourage you to come this morning. And I will ask if you want to receive the power of the Holy Ghost, that you just lift your hands. The word of God says if you open your mouth, he will fill it. We believe that. My grandfather Walter Dorsey got the Holy Ghost in his house. Praying to the Lord by himself. You can be anywhere. Because when the Holy Spirit was released, it was released to the entire world and rushed through the world. So we thank you, God, for the moving of the Holy Spirit. You speak in tongues, you will know. You will know that you know that you know that you know. I will never forget the day that the Lord filled me with the power of the Holy Ghost, and I began to speak in other tongues. It was like a moment of time, but actually, hours had passed. I'll never forget that moment. There is no theological debate that can tell me that I did not receive the power of the Holy Ghost because the experience was so real in my life. It's like telling me you're not leaning on the podium. Yes, I am. I'm experiencing it. That's how it's not a mess up, right? It's not a just a maybe I did, maybe I didn't. When the Lord fills you with the Holy Spirit, you will know. I thank you, God, that you are very willing to pour out your spirit. Pour your spirit out, Lord. Pour your spirit out, Lord. Come on, can you just open your mouth and begin to praise the Lord and begin to thank Him today? Pour it out, Jesus. Thank you, God, for the moving and the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jesus. He cuts out all about she da la la la la la You are great and mighty, are you, God? You are powerful above all things if we love you, Jesus. I got filled with the Holy Ghost just telling the Lord how much I love him. I love you, Lord. I'm grateful for you, Jesus.
unknownWhat a great God you love.
