It was from around the like the 1940s, I believe. A man, Claire, a man was talking about this thing. This darkness. This this evil. He called it the Rabbish Man. Claire, Claire, he he talked about how an entire village went missing in the 1800s because of this thing. Everyone. It came for them, Claire. It came for them. Honey, it each and every fucking one of them. It came for. And the same thing was said before they all vanished. The identical thing before they were all just gone. The red man in the dirt. Claire, baby. Honey, this this legend. It's not just some made-up story. Jacob isn't making it up. It's real. Baby, it's real. It's been happening for centuries. I I I have a a a recording of it. I listened to the whole thing. The way he spoke, he was terrified, Claire. He wasn't just a man telling stories. He knew it because it was happening to him. To his family. It was fucking coming for him, Claire. He knew it. He heard it. He knew the story and the rubbish.

Why you slapped Jacob when he said its name. Why you were so quick to dismiss it, ignore it, pretend that it wasn't happening. Why you got so fucking scared when you couldn't pretend anymore. Because you knew. You knew the truth about the red man in the dirt. And you lied to me about it. You lied to me over and over again and again. But then but then the moment he said her name, it all made sense. It all made sense, Claire. It was your great grandmother's name, wasn't it, Claire? It was the same name given to your grandmother. The one passed down to your own mother, and then finally on to you. It was your name, Claire. It was your name, your family legacy, your heartbreaking reminder. He joked about it. Hey, honey, well, why do all the women in your family have the hyphenated names? I asked you. Why do all of the women in your family have hyphenated names? That's what I asked you.
