Hello and welcome to the Boost Your Business English Podcast. I'm Chloe.
SPEAKER_03And I'm Alex. We're so glad you could join us today.
SPEAKER_02Today's episode is all about everyday English conversation practice. We're going to help you speak more confidently in common everyday situations at work.
SPEAKER_03That's right. The goal is to make these conversations feel automatic so you don't have to think so much about what to say.
SPEAKER_02And we have a special method to help you do that. It's very simple. We want you to listen to this episode twice a day, every day, for one week.
SPEAKER_03Twice a day might sound like a lot, but repetition is the key to automatic speaking. When you repeat something many times, you train your brain to remember it without effort.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. So find a time that works for you. Just listen, relax, and let the English sink in. Are you ready to begin?
SPEAKER_03Excellent. Let's start with our first topic: greetings and introductions. This is for when you meet a new colleague for the first time.
SPEAKER_02Hi, I don't think we've met before. My name is Chloe. I work in the marketing team.
SPEAKER_03Oh, hi Chloe. I'm Alex. I just started in the IT department this week. It's really nice to meet you.
SPEAKER_01It's a pleasure to meet you too, Alex. Welcome aboard. How are you finding things so far?
SPEAKER_03Thanks. Everyone has been very friendly. I'm still trying to find my way around the office, though.
SPEAKER_02I completely understand. It takes a little time. Well, if you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask. That's very kind of you. I appreciate that. Thanks. Great. Now let's practice the key sentences. Listen carefully and then repeat after me in the pause.
SPEAKER_00I don't think we've met before. It's a pleasure to meet you too. Welcome aboard. Please don't hesitate to ask. Next, let's practice talking about your day.
SPEAKER_02This is a common way to make small talk with colleagues. Listen to this example.
SPEAKER_03Hey Chloe, how's it coming?
SPEAKER_02Hi, Alex. I'm doing well, thanks. It's been a busy morning. How about you?
SPEAKER_03Same here. I've been in meetings all day. I'm really looking forward to lunch.
SPEAKER_02Me too. Are you working on the new project?
SPEAKER_03Yes, I am. It's interesting, but a lot of work. How's your day been so far?
SPEAKER_02It's going well. I finished my big report, so I'm feeling good.
SPEAKER_03Okay, a very normal, friendly conversation. Now let's repeat the important phrases. Listen and say them with me.
SPEAKER_00How's it going? It's been a busy morning. How about you? How's your day been so far?
SPEAKER_03Okay, our third topic is making and responding to simple requests. It is very important to be polite when you ask for help at work. Let's listen.
SPEAKER_02Excuse me, Alex. Do you have a moment?
SPEAKER_03Sure, Chloe.
SPEAKER_02What's up? Could you do me a favor? I can't get the printer to work.
SPEAKER_03Of course. Let me take a look. Ah, it looks like it's out of paper.
SPEAKER_02Oh, of course. Could you show me where the paper is kept?
SPEAKER_03No problem. It's just in this cabinet here.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help. You're welcome. Any time. Excellent. Now let's practice those polite requests. Remember to repeat after me.
SPEAKER_00Do you have a moment? Could you do me a favor? Could you show me where? I really appreciate your help. Now let's practice sharing your opinion.
SPEAKER_02It's important to be able to agree and disagree politely with your colleagues. Listen to this dialogue.
SPEAKER_03So for the new marketing campaign, I think we should focus on social media.
SPEAKER_02That's a good point. Social media is very important these days. Right? I think it will reach the most people. What do you think? I agree. However, I also think we shouldn't forget about email marketing. Many of our loyal customers prefer email.
SPEAKER_03I see your point, but isn't email a bit old-fashioned?
SPEAKER_02I understand what you're saying. In my opinion, a mix of both would be best.
SPEAKER_03Hmm, that makes sense. I think you're right. Let's propose doing both. Being polite is key here. Let's practice these important phrases. Repeat after me.
SPEAKER_00That's a good point. What do you think? I see your point, but in my opinion. That makes sense.
SPEAKER_03Finally, for our last practice, let's learn how to end a conversation politely. It's a skill we use every single day. Listen closely.
SPEAKER_02Well, it was great to chat with you, Alex.
SPEAKER_03You too, Chloe. But I should probably get back to my desk. I have a deadline soon.
SPEAKER_02Oh, of course. I'd better get going too. I have another meeting in five minutes.
SPEAKER_03Okay, let's talk again soon.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. Have a good rest of your day. Thanks, you too. Great job. Now let's practice the sentences for ending a conversation. Repeat after me.
SPEAKER_00It was great to chat with you. I should probably get back to work. I'd better get going. Have a good rest of your day.
SPEAKER_03Great job. Now for our sixth topic: making suggestions. This is a very useful skill when you are in a team meeting or brainstorming ideas with colleagues. Let's listen to an example.
SPEAKER_02Okay, team. We need to decide on a location for the company retreat. What are your thoughts?
SPEAKER_03And that's the end of our conversation practice. Now let's look at some of the useful words and phrases we used.
SPEAKER_02Right. In our second dialogue, Alex, you started by saying, How's it going? This is a very common and formal way to say, How are you? You can use it with colleagues you know well.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Another good one was from our third dialogue about requests. Chloe, you said, could you do me a favor? This is a very polite and gentle way to ask for help. It's much better than just saying, help me.
SPEAKER_02It is. And then in the dialogue about opinions, we used a fantastic phrase, I see your point, but. This phrase is brilliant for disagreeing politely. First, you show you understand their idea with I see your point. Then you introduce your different idea with the word but.
SPEAKER_03That's a really useful one. It helps you disagree without starting an argument. Finally, let's look at ending a conversation. You said, I better get going. This is a common and polite way to say that you need to leave.
SPEAKER_02It sounds much more natural than just saying, I must go now. Remember, listen to the dialogues again to hear these phrases in their natural context. That's the best way to learn them. Yes, on our channel we have a series of short videos called Mini Story Listening Lessons. These stories are designed to help you think in English.
SPEAKER_03That's right. Each video has a short, simple story. First, you just listen. Then we ask you very simple questions about the story. Your job is to pause the video and answer each question out loud.
SPEAKER_02Answering out loud is so important. It builds your speaking muscles and your confidence. The stories use simple vocabulary, so it's perfect practice for beginners.
SPEAKER_03And just like this podcast, the key is repetition. Watch the same mini story video every day for a week. Answer the questions. You will be amazed how quickly your speaking improves.
SPEAKER_02So search for Boost Your Business English Mini Stories and give it a try. It's a powerful way to practice. Remember, learning a language is a journey. It takes time and consistent effort. Don't worry about making mistakes. Every time you speak, you are learning and improving.
SPEAKER_03That is so true. The most important thing is consistency. Just a little bit of practice every day makes a huge difference. So listen to this episode again tomorrow and the day after that.
SPEAKER_02You can do this. Thank you for listening to the Boost Your Business English podcast.
SPEAKER_03We'll see you in the next episode. Keep practicing.
