SPEAKER_01

Welcome to Amateurs and Experts Podcast. We are in the Otis Technology Booth at SHOT Show 2025. Can't believe this is our last interview. You're we're finishing with the best.

SPEAKER_00

There you go.

SPEAKER_03

You should finish with the best.

SPEAKER_00

Save the best for last.

SPEAKER_03

Although next time I'm gonna go first, so I got like high energy left.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Well, we are with RJ from Kickies, which is a fantastic US-based company, 100% American-made products. It is a recoil pad company. And you guys are what year is this for you?

SPEAKER_03

Gosh, a displaying here? Uh, I don't even know. I mean, they used to display before us, like before I took over, they were way back. And I just found this out. They actually used to grind pads here. And I met the gunsmith, and he brought in a grinder, set up a little acrylic booth, which if you've ever browse our Instagram and you see the mess that this makes. And for what is this four days of this, would sit there and grind pads for four straight days.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03

Sounds amazing. Yeah, oh, it's it's it works. And Frank's also here. Yeah, sorry, Frank. Frank was kicking also, but he doesn't get an interruption.

SPEAKER_00

Well, to be fair, he was like, he was like, I I'm not gonna say anything, and then we kind of pulled him in, peer pressure. Erica forced him in the booth.

SPEAKER_04

Thanks, Erica. Really appreciate that.

SPEAKER_00

You're welcome.

SPEAKER_04

I'm just giving you an out for you know the silence that you're gonna hear from me for the next uh however long. Yeah, fair enough.

SPEAKER_00

But then be a part of it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um I can't imagine that.

SPEAKER_03

I can't imagine either. I mean, and I I think Shot Show back in the day was different. There's lots more of like demos of that type of stuff, where now I don't think that would fly.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, from a safety standpoint, I would feel like NSSF would be like, yeah, we're not gonna be able to do that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we're not gonna let you grind pads here. Yeah, but um it's my personal, I think fourth year. Does that sound right, Frank? Fourth year of displaying. Sounds about right. Yeah, fourth year of display in. And we've moved locations now twice and we or third time, and we love our new location. We got a bigger booth down in the basement and a corner. So we love it.

SPEAKER_01

The the the first floor of the basement, like that's a lot of people's favorite spot because like it is happening down there. Like there's a lot of major innovation, just great product design, US companies, lots of energy down there. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

The first I I the basement, the first floor, I don't know what everyone calls it, the dungeon. It it's it's by far my favorite spot. Like we were commenting the other day, like if you got massive enough to have like a booth the size VODUS, which is a huge booth, I'd still really like the basement.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Kind of want to hang out down there. Like I now know the people down there. It's fun. Everyone's like, you know, like throwing stuff around. Like it's it's just a really good time down there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So um, so you guys have new products this year.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So share a little bit about that.

SPEAKER_03

So new stuff, both kind of in the for our core bread and butter, which is like who we're always taking care of gunsmiths. We came out with a pad with no holes so that they can kind of infinitely fit a pad. Um, or it can be glued on to some stocks that I guess some of the carbon fiber stocks, they just glue the pads on. And then a lot of the new new stuff for us is prefits, so fitting on magpull stuff, fitting on the Browning Inflex direct replacements for some of the more popular pads out there. And then that's really something that going into 2025, we're expanding on and trying to roll out more and more pads that fit the standard guns, and that's that's really kind of turning into our bread and butter stuff.

SPEAKER_00

That's awesome. I have to say last night, um, so Katie Riley, she's on our board. I love her. But uh, she was so excited when she was talking about all the kickies pads she had.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she had the Magpull one. And that's what's awesome about it because it gets it gets people that don't, you don't have to go to a, you know, I don't want to say you don't have to go to a gunsmith to do it, but you get that really tailored, customized fit without having to grind it yourself, you know, or take it to someone. So it's a great product.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah, she has three of your pads, and she was it, and it takes I feel like it takes more. I mean, I'm I'm excited about anything, but I feel like Katie, she she's a engineer, she you know, she has that brain of you know, technic technical brain. And um we don't see her excited about things very often. Like, I mean, she does get excited, but not to the point where I mean she was like beaming last night talking about how great it was, and that um, you know, now that she has your kickies pads, it's it really helped in in her and her shoulder and all that stuff. And um, and it was fun to see.

SPEAKER_03

That's awesome. No, they're really, really like I always tell people like go, you know, go go look at us versus any of our competitors. Like, I don't care. Go go check them out, try them out, like whatever. Everyone always comes back. Like, uh you could nerd out on the material science on what we make our pads out of for days, and it's just it's so much better than what everyone else out there is offering. It's it's great. Yeah, it's really, really a fun thing, and people get passionate about it. And it's fun that it's a recoil bat at the end of the day, and people like nerd out like, oh my god, you're the best. Like, we had some guy who was a gunsmith of ours for 40-something years come to the booth the other day and be like, I'm just happy they're still as good as they used to be.

SPEAKER_01

Like you're baking cookies and you haven't changed the recipe.

SPEAKER_03

Like, it's it's perfect, it's the best sugar cookie. Don't screw with it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's awesome. And I but I think it also that's shown in the partnerships that you have and those that use your guns. Like you have Olympic shooters using them, competition shooters. It's not just like being sold on the shelves of like Walmart or Aldi's.

SPEAKER_03

No, no.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, we we are like not that there's anything wrong with things at Walmart or Aldi's.

SPEAKER_03

I'll deal with both those places. But um, yeah, I mean, it looked it just Barrett. Barrett uses us. They could use anyone, like they they have a lot of energy to absorb there, they use us, you know, blahzer, uh Manners composite stocks, like some of the best names in the industry, we come stock on their guns. You know, not just we fit them, they reach out to us, they buy from us, and that's the only option.

SPEAKER_01

So because recoils, and we talk about this often with any type of firearm, that often for a new shooter could end their shooting experience.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Because if someone's not prepared for that recoil shotgun, handgun, it's so can be so displeasing and just not fun that it's it can ruin a day of shooting.

SPEAKER_03

Like it's almost like ear protection. Like you've got good ear protection. If not, by the end of the day, your head hurts. God, it's miserable. You know, you go out and shoot around a sporting clays without a proper recoil pad. Your shoulder's gonna Yeah, yeah, you're feeling it. Your shoulder's gonna hurt the next couple days.

SPEAKER_01

We the last time we shot clays was was a couple months ago in that new indoor range in Ohio, Lake Erie Arms, and a friend.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. You just helped the people from at the other.

SPEAKER_01

Is Lake Erie Arms here?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

unknown

Shut up.

SPEAKER_03

She stopped by the booth the other day. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Nice! Yeah, because you guys definitely should have that's what she said.

SPEAKER_03

She's like, come up, I want to do a range day. I want to fit you guys all on all of our guns. Like every one of our demons. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because okay, so everyone, I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. Lake Erie Arms.

SPEAKER_04

Cleveland.

SPEAKER_01

Cleveland. Oh H I O. Lake Erie Arms is a new firearms shooting range. They have an indoor clay, it's kind of like top golf, but for shooting clays.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, is that she was trying to describe it? Sounds amazing. Yeah. Right? They do night shoots, right? Like glow in the dark, like all sorts of stuff. I so cool.

SPEAKER_01

It's yeah, so when you guys go, I have to fly in and go. Um it and it's it's obviously different than you would be outside. And I think we were talking about doing it after we shot that the interior is all black and it's like matte black because they've got you know ballistic shit for when the clays explode. And there's something I think with like the depth perception that when you're outside you just see things differently, but then being indoors with the lighting, it's just but it's still fun as shit. I mean, because when you're shooting clays, you heckle each other, right? And like you're all in this like this little area, but there's a countdown timer and you have so many seconds. But the way they have it timed, I think there's eight bays that you have 60 seconds and it says ready shooter, you shoot, and then there's it resets the clock because then you have the next bay that shoots that throws the targets. I mean, the science is super, super amazing, but the whole point of that is but I'm glad I brought it up because we're going. Uh, a friend of ours had never shot clays, and the next day he's like, Man, I'm sore. I was like, Well, did you have it like in the pocket of your he's like, would have been nice to know yesterday, Jess. Because yes, so it can ruin your whole day.

SPEAKER_03

It really can, but yeah, we need to go to I I seriously do want to go to that place. And she's super nice. You guys should have her on the podcast. Like, she was unbelievably. I will reach out because awesome to chat with and like went over all the new, what would she say? Like 18 different things that don't exist in the country there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. The guys that started it, I know this is about kickies, but they went through the cut the country for indoor gun ranges and looked to see what was the best top of the line, what people had, what they didn't have, and that's what they built it based on. That's yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Sounds like fun. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Frank's like, I'll go.

SPEAKER_04

I'll go. Yeah. I'm on a game. If there's shooting involved, count me in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Erica can come out. Yeah, can I? You can fly.

SPEAKER_03

Ask Jazz. You're gonna it's gonna stay at her house.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, I can't be part of the kickies team.

SPEAKER_04

Come on out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so we'll get the hat or something with us.

SPEAKER_00

There is an RV park across the street. A hat or a t-shirt is what Frank just offered me. The shirts are great.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh, the shirt that Jess was wearing last night. I want one of those.

SPEAKER_03

Sunshirts. We'll get those are nice. Oh my god. Very soft. Oh, that we're actually gonna be selling those now soon.

SPEAKER_02

But the sun shirts are so sweet, but I was actually selling it.

SPEAKER_03

Spoiler.

SPEAKER_04

Our swag line continues to grow.

SPEAKER_00

I'll get on your website.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we're secretly turning into a clothing company. Yeah. New for 2025.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, you need to.

SPEAKER_01

But your patches are amazing. I mean, people come with a booth just for the patches.

SPEAKER_03

I'm so bitter. So this year we were supposed to have a um Peanuts the Squirrel patch. R.I.P. Yeah, R.I.P. Peanuts. He reset the timeline. Um the company misspelled our name on twice. So they are now sitting on like 5,000 patches that are our name misspelled twice.

SPEAKER_01

How did they misspell it?

SPEAKER_03

Easy Z. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I didn't think it was that difficult to spell ease, but you know, you'd be surprised.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and they've done the patches for you guys before.

SPEAKER_03

So I mean, and they they even said it, they're like, man, we screwed up. And then they redid it again, and then like three days before shot, I got this email or the picture of it. And he was like, please continue to use us. And they really are great guys. Like they're awesome dudes. Like, nothing wrong. It's just like it was partly my fault. I put in our design way too late, and they were trying to rush it out for me. And I think that that's what screwed it up. Stuff happens.

SPEAKER_01

But you've had a super busy year. Like there's been a lot of travel for kickies. You guys, um, I feel like it was just yesterday, but it wasn't. Thunderstick.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Thunderstick's awesome. And for anyone who doesn't know, it is hosted by Bangcomp, who's a great partner of ours. And we, it is like a three-day, I think, three-day break. Yeah, three-day. Three-day tactical shotgun, which like and it's instructed by some of the best instructors in the world. And no matter what level you are, if you're a complete amateur, they have a class out there that's shotgun basics. And it's like how to run, how to run it, how to do this, how to do that, how to fix if it's stovepipes or different feed issues, all the way up to shooting at night while moving.

SPEAKER_04

Like very cool. Yeah, truly, if it's the first time you've ever picked up a shotgun, or if you get paid to jump out of helicopters and shoot shotguns, like that, you can learn something from this class. It's amazing. The body of knowledge from the cadre instructors they have there is is truly unparalleled. It's amazing.

SPEAKER_01

The footage, I'm always jelly. Next year I might have to fly myself out there and just like it.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's gonna be a prairie fire.

SPEAKER_01

Really? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I think we're talking, they're talking, and I mean I hope it's not spoiler alert for them. Um, but it's a location here. I'm gonna get a call from Cody after this. Like, uh, are they please don't announce where we're doing? Audio redacting. Um prairie buyers, I think the rumored location for next year.

SPEAKER_00

So staccato, Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_03

Staccato, Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes, rebranded. Staccato, Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_03

Did they rebrand the staccato?

SPEAKER_01

They announced it this week that Prairie Fire is now rebranding to Staccato, Las Vegas.

SPEAKER_03

That place has changed names so many times. That place is awesome. Yeah, it is awesome. Oh my gosh, it is awesome. So it's to well, then it will be at Staccato, Las Vegas. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's what I love about Shot Show is that you get the insider scoop.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, you know, some things are leaked that probably shouldn't be, and you heard it here first.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

After we edit these and release them months later. Months later.

SPEAKER_05

Months later, yes.

SPEAKER_01

But we heard it first. Yeah, you guys heard it first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. So some of the other things that you guys came out with this year, um, stocks.

SPEAKER_03

No, no stocks. Well, oh, sort of. So we we work with chisel like very, very hand in hand. Um, chisel machining is one of the best companies out there for like an aftermarket. Actually, number one of the best company for like a Marlin, a 1301, any of those types of stocks that they make A300s. 870s, yeah, 870s. We got a foldable 870 stock, and so we make all the pads for chisel machining. Um and they are really, really cool. So we're partnered up with them. Every one of their stocks comes with our pads, and then yes, we are now actually a reseller of chisel. So we're trying to expand our line as well on our website for anything you may need, shooting related, in that higher end space. So like you're not, we're never gonna sell a I don't know, a bit uh $5 stock. Like we sell the high end, the premium stocks, and and chisel's the only way to go on that. So yeah, we have them on our site now too. And they're they're the best guys, all made in America, sourced in America as well. So yeah, they're all say, USA.

SPEAKER_01

And pila glasses.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, doing the same thing. I mean, that they're not made in America, but the the they're all Zeiss lenses, like they're yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Uh those things are kind of like a cheat code. Yeah. If you ever ever tried those on, you put up put on a pair of pila glasses and go out and try to shoot. It's like you're seeing through X-ray vision.

SPEAKER_01

Are you serious?

SPEAKER_03

It really is an amazing difference. There's different lenses based on your eye color, where you're shooting, the light condition, everything. It makes the clays glow almost like neon oranges to come. I could not understand why they were so expensive. Couldn't understand why.

SPEAKER_01

So we need to. I'm sorry that I'm just eight years old finding this out. So I do the marketing for kickies, and now I feel like a jackass. That we need to add to that. I'm broken. You need to add that to the lenses.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. They they literally they're unbelievable. Like it's we have one of the guys from on our pro staff team from he was an Alabama shooter, and he's here today. And like, we were talking about Pila lenses for probably two hours the other day on how they literally are a cheat code for shooting clicks. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna have to get a few of those.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'll uh I might be able to get you some. It's pretty it's a pretty big vibe in Flex, too, if you're just rocking some pilas, you know, just out on the street, like just uh just to be. Yeah, just bey that was pretty hot stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe that's how we get your dream to come true. Erica wants to be a flower girl by the end of the week, so maybe if I just sport some pilas, yeah, find me a man.

SPEAKER_00

I keep on telling Jess I'm gonna find her a man this week, and we're going to the chapel of love, and I'm gonna be a the flower girl. Deb's gonna be the maid of honor.

SPEAKER_04

Is the king gonna officiate?

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm clearly not planning this. So everyone else is planning it, so I guess whatever else everybody else wants.

SPEAKER_04

Well, congratulations on the back.

SPEAKER_01

We're just missing the groom.

SPEAKER_04

So you know, details minor. Super duper. We got the broad strokes nailed down. Yeah, we're good. This is very much a broad strokes. There's a wedding having a shot show.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I'm sure there's somebody out there that would be fine.

SPEAKER_01

Surely, surely. But I think the pila glasses could be that connecting factor.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not sure you want a guy that's going for you and pila glasses. Well, he's got good taste in optics. Optics taste is on point. Yeah. Like, uh, look at that ice lens. And she picked the right one for the indoor conditions. Goodness, that's a woman.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh. Well, Jess is kind of a nerd as we all know. Oh, so the guy that's nerding out over her pilah glasses.

SPEAKER_02

Indoor Pila with the coded for LED. Perfect woman. She sees orange so well.

SPEAKER_00

That's so hot. And orange is her favorite color.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. Oh. Oh, match never.

SPEAKER_04

It's just coming together too well.

SPEAKER_01

Tell you, master plan.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. It's like a puzzle piece, it's right where it's supposed to be.

SPEAKER_01

It is, it is.

SPEAKER_03

We just put this little PA thing, plug it into the shot cell and start announcing.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. Yeah, hold an audition right here in this little booth.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, please make your way over to the artist booth. Just as tight right there. Come on over. You know what? You two, come on over. Let's just see if she's interested.

SPEAKER_01

Don't mention auction me off because I feel like Deb will add that to the Texas She Never Quit event as an online option.

SPEAKER_00

Because she did she does have a wedding dress that she wants to bring. Yeah, she's trying to get rid of a wedding dress.

SPEAKER_03

Dab's trying to get rid of a wedding dress?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like there's a story either. I'm not 100% sure if I yeah. I mean, broad strokes on the story here. Audio redacted.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I don't know how, because her her daughter got married and they ended up getting, I think, a few different options of wedding dresses, and this one was not used.

SPEAKER_03

She bought a few options of wedding. I was upset that my wife spent, I don't even know how much on one wedding.

SPEAKER_00

I think it was like $200. We're not talking like. Yes. So her daughter got married. Um, it was kind of like they it wasn't like a gunshot wedding or anything like that, but they had been planning it. And um one of the things she was kind of indecisive about dresses and um kind of getting them sent to Deb because she was uh gonna get married around Deb's house. So she had a wedding dress fitting, and um Deb could not get rid of this dress. She she could return the rest, but not this one. So now she was. I mean, that's a two for one, right? You can read that. She never quit and have you know, now till April to really get to know this guy, and then he comes out and uh you have your dress there, and you can be the flower girl, maid of honor.

SPEAKER_03

This is I thought we were this was happening on Friday. What happened?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I would love Friday.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm very sad. Yeah, I get a red eye to catch. Yeah, is it captained or what? We fly out at 11. Like I this needs to happen at like seven o'clock. We'll be doing tonight, not tomorrow. We can wait, we got until tomorrow.

SPEAKER_00

I can move my flight. I mean, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Tomorrow's Friday, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Well, see, now we're all looking for somebody for chess. And so now there's three of us looking. I think that I think we got this. The odds have enhanced.

SPEAKER_03

I just got to notice that my flight leaves in one day, 12 hours. So we have one day, eight hours to make this happen.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Let's go.

SPEAKER_01

Wonderful. Well, um, so speaking of new things, is there anything new that you're excited about for 2025?

SPEAKER_03

Lots and lots of new president. Yeah, president. That is the you know what? On that, yes. There will sell new stuff, but president.

SPEAKER_01

Perfect. Okay. Well, as always, it's always amazing to have you guys on the podcast. Um, if people want to get an amazing, awesome recoil pad, where can they find that?

SPEAKER_03

www.findjessahusband.com. Kickiesproducts.com. Please go.

SPEAKER_01

Please buy stuff. And you're also on social media as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. All of the socials were on YouTube, Rumble, Instagram, TikTok, Instagram, TikTok, TikTok. Are we on TikTok?

SPEAKER_04

No, we're not on TikTok.

SPEAKER_01

No, definitely. You're definitely not on TikTok.

SPEAKER_04

Nobody's on TikTok anymore, are they? No, it came back. Came back. It's back. TikTok was dead, then it's back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Anyway. R.I.P. R.I.P.

SPEAKER_00

R.I.P. Well, this has been great. Thank you for watching. Thank you guys so much. Lots of laughs, as always. And uh hey, and happy birthday to TikTok. Yes, my little guy.

SPEAKER_03

Last year he was born, and I left him three days after he was born to come to shot. And I now, day after his birthday, I left again. It's the father of the year.

SPEAKER_01

Erica was actually upset that you did not have a new baby boon patch this year.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. We talked about it last year. I'm like, oh my gosh, what did he do for the boon patch? I need it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I know what it'd be now. So he just moved up to the kindergarten class of one year old, and my my kid eats 24 7 and sleeps all the time too. And they took away his nap. And so my wife just sent me a photo. He's sitting in the chair in front of their like new where he's supposed to eat, asleep. Sitting at the table asleep, sitting up, like his little pot bellies hanging out of his shirt. Like what a bro. Yeah. He is asleep. And the teacher's like, we tried to wake him up, but he just wanted to like fall over. So we had to like just hold him there and then like put him down.

SPEAKER_00

That's adorable. Oh my gosh, I love it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah. Here's some good parenting advice for the new parents out there. Keep nap time going as long as possible.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

They try to take it away when they turn one.

SPEAKER_01

Just had a new tiny human. Not you, your wife.

SPEAKER_04

My wife, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Uh Veterans Day, baby. Yeah. Daughter, third one. Uh, third child, so I got daughter, son, daughter. Um, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So exciting.

SPEAKER_04

Just adding to the layers of chaos in the house. You know, it's great. Getting a lot of sleep. It's fantastic. Uh my wife is an angel. She's she's uh she takes care of a lot of the night feeds and uh so if you're listening, I love you. Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Um, on that happy note, yes, I'm so glad we ended on a happy note and uh and laughs because you know this podcast has been a little boring for me. Yeah, Eric almost fell asleep. Upright, not at all. Just like baby. And my pot belly's hanging out too. Anyway, it's been fun. Thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you, guys. Thank you.
