SPEAKER_01

Yo, what are you doing? It's your boy, it's the boy. The boys of the culture, man. I'm back, and today's a little different, but it's special. My brother's from Englewood, man. They are part of a committee that represents greatness, man. Um I gotta say thank you first and foremost for you reaching out to me and allowing me to be a part of this, man. I know I am no whip person. So this is definitely a blessing to be a part of this. I'm gonna keep it bugging. I'm not gonna yell at me. I did not know the young man, you know what I'm saying? But um, we got the whip wild comedian to do it, man. Basketball tournament, KG, Parkview, Rock Creek, Westmore, correct?

SPEAKER_00

Three-quarters of the Whipwalk comedian, we're missing one, but I may tell you, I'm gonna let uh each one of these brothers introduce themselves and tell you which part of uh triangle offense they represent. Self-explanatory class K for Stacy P.

SPEAKER_01

And there you have it, you know what I'm saying? The other partner couldn't be in the building, but Westmore was in the building. You know what I'm saying? It's a blessing, man, that you know what you brothers been doing for the past nine years for the community. Technically 10. Excuse me. Technically 10. We took off of COVID, yeah. But we still handed out the book back in the school supply. Okay, we just didn't play the game. Okay. So you still that's what it's still looked out. As you should, you know what I'm saying? But the thing about it is actually I kept it going. And I consistent. It wasn't a one and done type of situation. So I want to personally give you your flowers for the consistency. Because at this day in time, a lot of us, you know, we start something, we don't finish all the time. Or, you know, we let things get in the way. Y'all even came back after COVID. It could have been a rap after that, but you know what I'm saying? Hard rock determination, plus all these years in the building. So I'm saluting y'all, man, for that. That's right. And y'all deserve your props and your flowers, each one of y'all in your own right, man. I respect that, man. But um, we're gonna jump right in it, man. And I'm gonna start off with um, and this is a question for the team. Um What made y'all say this is what we need to do? Let me start, right? Some of the best things are started by accident. You know what I'm saying? It started out like a random Saturday. Brothers was playing ball in Parkview, and me and Ugmo, a couple other brothers, was up here, and me and Ugmo was up here drinking, I ain't gonna lie. Yeah. And and the dudes was down there and they was like, Oh, them niggas we rock creep, some niggas come down and get some. I went ran out of the bun, going in the house, get my sneakers. Ugh said, nah, sneakers, we've been drinking. He's like, let's get them next Sunday. Let's get them next Sunday. Very next Sunday came. He was suited and booted. Get down to K Park, and niggas lined up ready to play. And it went like that every Sunday for the whole summer. That's how I mean her. We would come likely sick. Now they cut you also beat Park View. Well, just it would just be, well, so the creek versus the Port War. Right. Right, pretty much. So we come in the park, they be lined up. Get out there, sometimes the creek wins, sometimes the creek take a beacon. You know. It was winning. Yeah, no, because I was gonna say. Like end of the summer, KG was going on on a ramp. Coming up here beating us. Yeah. People going on vacation. Yeah. Funny what came up on my on my on my memories the other day after the game. I had a big ice pack on my leg, took a beating down there. So Teddy, who ain't here, yeah, plus two other brothers, when they like, you know what I mean? Get to talk and get to talk and smack, man. Like, who better? Right here on the creek. Yeah, who better? Nah, we better, nah we better, now we better. And them brothers put together a tournament in about three days. Three days. In about three days. No clock, no scoreboard, just tiny refur first and just the essence of the city. That was more. So really Keem was the one who was pushing it a lot. Keen was Keen Boom, if anybody knows. He was the one that was like, yo, let's get up, let's go get the t-shirts, let's go get food, let's go get all that. So I wasn't even really like we were talking, we were talking about doing it. Right. But it was just like, alright, we're gonna play ball on a regular Sunday. Okay. But he was pushing it like there was no, you know, let's do like a little tournament thing. So if I'm not mistaken, the first year we didn't give out school supplies. No, no, no. I thought we did it. I thought we did it. I thought we did it because technically it's a left, well, because we skipped a year. So we did it 12, we skipped 13, and then we started back 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. So we didn't have nothing the next year, you know. You know, unfortunately. Some function away. Right. You know, you know, circumstances. It is what it is. But we here now, we've been giving back up the set. But the next year, you know, I was in a different position financially. A couple, I think cluster's home, you know what I mean? A couple other people, the next man up, you know what I'm saying? Right. Next man up. You know, sure the people was away. It was like, yo, let's let's get it right back on. TCP like, yo, let's let's let's keep this going. Right. You know what I mean? We start to meet. Let's keep this going. And right. These two guys right here have been been with it ever since. Yeah, but you know, the dope part about the whole situation is y'all kept the his name, the legacy, alive.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

That's that's the thing about it. And that and and and the most important part, you put a put a smile on his mother and his sister's face. That's what I mean. The legacy, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

His mom came to the 4th annual. Yeah. That was Denim, right? Yeah, Dennis. Yeah, that was Denim. Mom came to the 4th annual. Yeah. I ain't gonna lie, I didn't know him neither. I was away when it happened to him. So, like, they like what I'm like, man, you know, I I'm I'm with the concept. Well, the idea of giving it the name of the Whipop, me, Mel and King, we just came out with it because he's one of the brothers that's from my neighborhood that we lost in a tragic situation. Young kid. Young kid, everybody. So we just like, you know, I mean, everybody year after year, be like, yo, when we name it this person, this person. You know, it just it's it's it's still we still can celebrate everybody. Exactly. But the name gotta remain the same. It's like last year Topper was on the shirt. One year we had Troy D on the shirt. Right. You know what I mean? It's it's it's it's her, you know, it's it's far. Whip what represents all our four. I think last year, you know what I mean. We always we had a ref that rep with us from the beginning, Calvin and Calvin. We had a special thing for Calvin with the channel. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, you've been with us for the day. But no referees didn't want to do it. Right. Cal was I mean, if y'all gonna do it in the without, y'all know how it'd be. We cussin', you know. Coming back next to it. When is when is it, man? But it's actually not gonna play cap, but we're gonna chip chip you on this car now.

SPEAKER_00

It's super intense, but it's all love out there. You know what I mean? It's super intense. Listen, it's no friends entertainment during this afternoon afterwards, it's all love.

SPEAKER_01

You gotta think about it. We've been having this in the parts for nine years. Right. No, God bless, it haven't been no issues. Not one issue ever. We make it be known for the door. Knock on wood. You know, leave your problems in a joyous state. Yeah, yo, and all things real. So the first the first couple years, maybe four or five years, we was just winging it. We was just winging it, no permits, no police, no nothing. We winging it. We just picking the park and going there. And if they stop us, they stop us. But guess what? We're gonna do this on the day. And then they had some violence at another tournament in Inglewood and made us start tightening up. But to show you the love though, the very first year, remember, I went to the police station myself and gave them a check, $550 for two cops for the five hours. Right. Three three Bergen County sheriffs over in the corner. We think that's going towards them. The next day they call me like, yo, cops ain't take your money. Come get your check. Right? Did they see how much say, yo, come get your money, man? Cops ain't take your check. It's a beautiful thing. It's a thing in me, you know? And ever since then, they ain't been making us pay the security fee cops out there on us. Right. Wow.

SPEAKER_00

And um, that's dope. That's fire. Yeah, yeah. I think that was year six we started. That's when we started getting permits. Yes. Year six, the sixth Anu, that's when we started getting permits and things of that nature, and involving like the city councilman, councilman Wayne and Cobb, shout out to them. You know what I mean? They they helped out a lot. They helped out a lot.

SPEAKER_01

Because they didn't want to let us have it at all. But we told them, like, yo, like we like look at our track record. Y'all don't even know we was having it. They didn't even know it. Because then he ain't never cops had to be called, none of that stuff. Y'all even know we was having it. So give us the benefit of the doubt that ain't nothing gonna happen at hours.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. It is.

SPEAKER_01

We say after we clean up, after we make sure the pump is spotless, garbage where it's supposed to be. Everything. Yep. They just knew on a Sunday, these guys out there play ball and everybody from the town went.

SPEAKER_00

They didn't know what was gonna be. Like, it's to the point where Councilman Wayne Hamer and Councilman Charles Cobb, they look forward to this. Yeah, you know what I mean? So we had to we have to have it. Yeah, the mayor looks forward to this. The mayor wilds look forward to this. You know what I mean? So this is what this this thing of ours, we built this from the ground up. I really didn't come into the fold, I want to say until probably year five, year six, I want to say. Like, like as a pivotal person in the fold. This is something they've been doing. Yo, you know what's crazy though? And I'm gonna keep it real.

SPEAKER_01

I ain't know none of that shit. Yeah, I just a lot, you know what I mean? I'm glad we had I got the opportunity to even do this because now I'm giving the people outside of this who don't know the inside school what's been going on with you brothers. You know what I mean? This is this is this ain't just we just go out there and play ball. You know what I mean? But everybody didn't know what y'all went through. Because we got to a point where we had to make it about something else too, besides the basketball. Yeah, you know what I mean? And we said we was going, that's when we started the school supplies, and at like I said, at first, every year, let's say this, every year it's got progressively bigger. Like I said, the first year, we didn't have a clock or scoreboard. Nothing. All scoreboard. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

And then every year, everything, everything, everything. Listen, we never, we never faltered, we never went back. Every year it was ascension. It was never, you know what I mean? It was it never went back. We never went back to growth though.

SPEAKER_01

You got it to the to the year, the the year before COVID year. Well, every year people donate, but the year before COVID, it was so crazy. I had people from Virginia in my college who ain't never been to New Jersey that was donating, giving money. Yo, stays, I want to give money to your tournament this year. You know what I'm saying? Like every year I was posting these things. Every year I'm poking. I mean I'm poking big donation. Yo, thank you for your donation. Thank you for your donation. People ain't never been to Jersey, people ain't never seen the Whipwalp, don't know who Whip Wop is. You know what I mean? Be like, yo, yo, people call me. Yo, it's that time of year again. Yo, tell me where I gotta drop the stuff off. Every year, he got his his his stuff packed, my my kitchen packed the stuff. I'm like, man, somebody told me the other day, yo, I'm gonna drop it off Monday. I said, nah. Yo, because I think I'm gonna get in my kitchen. Right. Like Whip Wop time, I can't get in my kitchen. Flooded gator rays. Pick up book bags, all kinds of stuff, man. Like I said, every year get bigger. Like we was doing, I ain't gonna say Ricky Dick book bags because but they're the little git the little gym. We don't know. But the kids, they was it was though. It beat them. You know what I mean? You had the kids looking at that. It had nothing. You had the kids looking forward to those. And then Jordan Theodore came in and stopped by Jordan Theodore.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm saying? He don't look, he don't like recognition like that, man, because he do it from the heart. But you gotta show that man that that respect. Jordan.

SPEAKER_01

Jordan's been doing for the last three to four years. That's a fact. Been a blessing. That's a good thing. Like like Stacy P said, we was we just had the straw bookbacks and you know the string joined. Yeah, the string, yeah. One kid, two kids don't get it. It's it's it's the parents is calling all week. But my kid is in the crib, that's a fact. That's a fact. You gotta. We had to go actually go order more. Whipmop day is over. Right. Another week, we had to go order more.

SPEAKER_00

And the coals is still coming in above the bag. Because they can't want a whip back. Because listen, that's how much the love pours, and we can't even supply with the demand. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Jordan Tato came, and he's been he's been blessing us with the pullbacks.

SPEAKER_00

So to piggyback on what you said earlier, you said you didn't know the young man. So I'll give you some backstory on who Keith Whitwell Murray was, man. Keith was a real good kid, man. Bright smile, handsome young man, fly, smart.

SPEAKER_01

What part of Inglewood was he from?

SPEAKER_00

Uh he lived by tributary. He lived by tributary. Um, you know, unfortunately, you know, made some wrong choices. We all do. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

We all did.

SPEAKER_00

But how it went down, he didn't deserve that. Because he was always a good person, he was always a good kid. You know what I mean? He chose something, I actually was good at it. But it was fortunate. It was harsh. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I didn't know that part of the story, you know what I'm saying? At a young age. At a young age, at a very young age, and you know, it was touching. But how we went down, it shouldn't have gone down. You know what I mean? And that was at the hands of you know, Englewood Police, you know? And we're not pointing no fingers, we just, you know, stating facts. And that's why we keep this man's name alive. He died while in police custody. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

This is before Trey Roman. This is before a lot of a lot of black lives. Oh, before all that, right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

7157, 928, 2004. Wow. What was he? 15, 17 years old? 17 years old. You know what I mean? 17 years old, he didn't even get a chance to find his purpose. He didn't even get a chance to find himself. Wow. So that's why we do this. You know, you understand what I'm saying? To keep this man's name alive. Y'all been doing a damn great job about it.

SPEAKER_01

That's all we need to do. That's all we need to do. That's really what I'm about to go on to the next, because at the end of the day, man, people be talking, but whether she appears every year or she doesn't appear, she knows what this tournament represents us. You know what I mean? And no matter what, that's that's something that she's never ever gonna forget. Ever. That's a part of her, that family, his sister, the family, like, yo, these are guys from the community. Brothers, brothers, men now, right, fathers, right? You know what I'm saying? Giving back to the same community that a lot of us ran around in. Let's be clear. Absolutely. You know what I mean? We all got our different errors, but we all ran around Inglewood. That's a fact. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Doing some knucklehead shit. It happens, you gotta go through it to get through it. So at the end of the day, this is why this interview is a blessing because it also shows the growth of y'all's men. You know what I'm saying? From Inglewood. From here, there, yeah, from Inglewood. We all here. We laugh, we joke, we all got different eras. We here. And it's a it's a it's a local tournament, right? I mean, every year, like I said, it gets progressively bigger every year. You know, like it used to be just Sunday. You know what I mean? You got David Harrison now that have little stuff on Saturdays. You know what I mean? Pope. Shout out to them. Shout out to them. You know what I mean? Auri Booker come out, you know what I mean? He do a little part, you know, but every year, without fail, you get somebody from T Neck, from Hackensack, you know, other towns. Oh, they wanna don't let us get a team in there. Oh, they wanna be. I was about to hit y'all with that. Like, you know, but it's but it's us. It's all about us. It'd be fair. You know what I mean? It's all about us.

SPEAKER_00

If we ever decided to do that, we would have to really figure that out. Yeah, you know what I mean? But this is like he said, this is about us. This is our thing. This is this thing of ours. You know what I mean? I wouldn't want to see. I ain't gonna find, I wouldn't want to see.

SPEAKER_01

They wouldn't be in the whip tournament. They would be in something else. Something else that this that this started, it'll be a subsidiary. Yeah, okay, we can do that, but y'all can't be a part of this. Yeah, nah, nah. Because it's it's like we make it Rock Creek, Paul View, Westmore, KG, because those are the pillars of the of the ward. Of our community. That's what it is. You know, of the ward. So that's what we do it, but if you live in the vicinity of, you know, one of the joint, you that's where you play at. You play for the box. I mean, and then you know, a lot of people from the town, I might have you might have lived in Rock Creek for a minute and moved to Park View and then moved, you know what I'm saying? So a lot of people play in different places. Your affiliations might be something more.

SPEAKER_00

Your affiliation is that strong, you can you can play it. What the moral of the story is we all in Englewood.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's all us. It's all Englewood. It's all us. It's all to us. It's all giving back loving families. Because I go out there, I see the kids, I see the BMs, the old heads, the young generation. Yo, it's definitely a whole, but it's it's it's us. And not only older, we feeding people, you know what I'm saying? I know I know people that live in South Carolina right now that fly in for Whipwop every year. I was just about to say that it's people that's from England that live out of town. May, June, April. That's making it. Hit me on my inbox. Yo, when is whip wop this year? I gotta take it.

SPEAKER_00

That's a blessing. That's that's how much this means. So we we we can never, we can never stop this. Nah, that's not even a door. Let's be clear, everything is free. Absolutely. Everything is free.

SPEAKER_01

Everything is free. From the from the very beginning, and me and Clutch talk about this all the time, ain't never leave profit in nothing. It's all been flat out of our pockets. Even if, like, like like I said, I had people donate for my school, I put it up. If we have money left over, I give it to kids at the end, hand them ten dollars a piece or a ton of cleanup. Bring me bring me a garbage bag full of garbage, I'll give you $10. You know what I mean? At the end. Or I've never left Whip Wap with a profit. This man ain't never left Whip Wap with a profit. His family work, he put his family to work, he had his family out there serving food and giving out book bags. Ain't always been all out and as you should. And I'm proud of it. You have proud of this. Y'all literally built this. Absolutely. One time one of the city council members was like, we can sell Gatorades. We was like, no.

SPEAKER_00

No, we cannot. No, no, no, nothing's being sold in that park. Nothing is being sold in that park at all. Ain't no park. Ain't nothing being sold. Nope. That's fire, y'all. That's fire. Nothing at all.

SPEAKER_01

Now. I wanna ask y'all, I'm gonna throw this curveboard at y'all. You ever thought about taking it to the indoors? One year when it rained. When it rained one year, we tried to throw it out. I paid for it out of my pocket. And they heard that if A was coming in, they gave the money back. Wow. That's a fact.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because we'd have packed that joint out, you never know. But they don't, they didn't, I don't think they were nah, they're I don't I don't think they were informed on how this really goes. I'm about to be informed how much they was like now. Oh yeah, also, also, also before I forget, shout out to the Jabari program. The Jabari uh what's what's it called? The Black Fireman's uh program, Jabari, because they donate every year. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Shout out to the cash donations, uh, school supplies.

SPEAKER_00

The Jabari Association. That's that's the name, that's the proper name. The Jabari Association. But it's a black firemen's association, right? Right, right.

SPEAKER_01

So they wouldn't be out at gym. City sports, city sports, probably. Listen, listen, listen.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm quite sure that's the one. That was like the what the third annual I think that was like the 34th. And listen. Yeah. And listen, at the end of the day, if something happens, they liable. You know what I'm saying? And they gotta, you know, maybe we can have to come into talk.

SPEAKER_01

It might be different. Something happens. It might be different. We do the whole. You know what I mean? I mean, but that was also one of them years where it was. I ain't gonna say unorganized, but we ain't had no permanence or nothing like that. We didn't have no affiliations. We didn't have no affiliations right now. Like, you know, the brother who kind of started the absolute association. We'll absolutely city council now. Absolutely. The brother that started the Jabari program, City Council now. Right? So Kevin Wilson. Shit, Kevin Wilson. You know what I mean? He if if it might be different if he walk in there and say, listen, absolutely. Or he might not even have to walk in there. He might just say, Here's Dwight Marr. You know what I mean? Or you know what I mean? Every year gets a little bit bigger, man, and we get we get different channels, man, and different ways to rock and roll. You know, these two guys make it happen. It ain't me. These two guys are on the paper tracks. Listen, man, the team is Voltron. Everybody plays Voltron. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I mean? Everybody play their role. Everybody play their role. You know what I'm saying? Everybody play that. Listen, me and him correspond. Yo, you do this, I do this, boom, boom, boom. We correspond, yo, you do this, I do this.

SPEAKER_01

And we all got our lives, man. Of course. We all got our lives. You know what I'm saying? That's when June comes. June comes, that's when everything you start getting. That's when we start, that's when y'all ask you. When do y'all start putting, you know, okay. Two months in advance. I give him the phone call. Oh, I'll give him the phone call.

SPEAKER_00

And they go do what you do. We go, I go up there, get the permit, I go get the certificate of insurance. Oh, man. Five years from now, we'll do a choice. Man. In the Mecca. In the Mecca. McKay Park. Next year, we'll be here. Next year, just so y'all know, we'll be the first time. It's our 10th annual next year. McKay Park, and that's our last stop forever. We're gonna keep it in McKay. We're gonna keep it in McKay. That's the only part we haven't hit throughout the whole tour. I discuss it with them yet.

SPEAKER_01

So and and we haven't wanted to. Yeah. We never really wanted to use it. And that was a problem with everybody about that. Why we had to have it in McKay Park. It was kind of my idea, but um, I just wanted to shed a light to all other parks.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay. Let me let me expound on that.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Cluster's whole thing was bringing awareness to these parks because some of these parks is run down. After we started doing this, they started putting bleaches in certain parks. They started cleaning these parks up. That was plus. That was Clus's whole purpose of doing this. To go into every park so you can see, so the councilmen and things of that nature, they can come out there and they can actually see, oh, this parks need attention. Then the park got bleached out there now. And also, so these kids that's coming up, because you remember when we were younger, we was out there playing basketball in all the parks. They were they were packed. Klus wanted these kids to know, yo, y'all got parks. Y'all can be out there playing basketball. Some of these kids don't even know.

SPEAKER_01

You ain't gotta walk oil from your backyard park. You can go right to Morris. So that was Cluster's. So you gotta walk all the from Lafayette to this park. You got dinner. Right. I grew up on the cameraman rod at Denner Park. We used to bowl there every single day. You don't see the kids out there at that time. Now you drive out there, you see the kids out there. See, it would have been nicer if they still had Dory Park in the school now. Because you know, uh Westmore would have had their park. They don't have a park technically. I mean to keep it real, I and SP, you know this, I live right across the street from that park. I remember when we used to go over there and dunk. That was my park. I didn't have to go to a K for what? I gotta go over here and dunk. We had double rims. But yo, I had everybody, and that's you know, I applaud you for that, plus, because we was thinking like it was me, Charles, Washington, his butt, everybody from that little area. We went to that park. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They'll pull the table up on Dory, jump up the table and get crazy. That was you know what I mean? Shout out to Chaz, because Chaz is gonna be crazy like that. Shout out to my man Chaz.

SPEAKER_01

It is, you know what I mean? But it's other parks you could go to. You know what I mean? You don't have to go to McKay. Even though we all want to go to McKay Park. And they started putting nets up and doing all the little fly shit for the other parks. So that was taking care of them. So that was definitely aware of this. Now you go when you go take care of them, start cutting the grass. Right. Started taking care of them, putting new joints in there, too.

SPEAKER_00

Putting new ribs up. Look, yeah. If you go to Denham Park, you still see the Whip Wap decal on the backboard. From what year was that? Um Skola put those on. But what year was that? That was six? That was year six? That was probably like seven or four.

SPEAKER_01

That was either way. That's when I had to straight out of Rock Creek shirts. That was right after Troy D died, so that was 14.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. Okay. So the whip wop decal is going nowhere in Denny. It's gonna stay there forever. Somebody shattered a backbone. Yeah, I like that. So that's it. Yeah, please don't shatter the backbone.

SPEAKER_01

Let them do that again because you know who's gonna be able to do that.

SPEAKER_00

Please, please, please, please do not download Dawkins that backboard, please, man. Yo, um, somebody had reached out to me in one of my comments and said, yo, are you doing anything for the youth?

SPEAKER_01

Youth teams. So that's a lot where the pop program coming, the video coming.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

So even this year, for before the WebWop game, because it rained last year. We was all out there with blowers and squeegeees. We just trying to get brooms that ass, trying to get the get the court ready for us to play, but the kids didn't get to play their finals. So scholar will have the kids from last year play their finals before we have one. That's dope. So yeah, that's that's that's a lot of scholar work with with the with the kids, junior with WAP and all that. He do a lot of that. I mean, but and it's like we said though, everybody got their niche. You know what I mean? And that's his specialty. He loves them kids. Right. You know what I'm saying? He loves them kids. Shout out to the pop program too.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out to Cousin Janelle, shout out to Scholar, man. Keep doing it, keep doing y'all thing, man.

SPEAKER_01

For real. You know what I mean? Because they was like, yo, they should have something for the youth. And yo, I just like, yo, let me bring it up now while we was talking about it. Because at the time they hit me, I didn't, I didn't know. And I mean, I didn't even, I ain't gonna front, I didn't even think about school right now.

SPEAKER_00

So now they know that the pop program focuses strictly on the youth. So y'all know that.

SPEAKER_01

And you heard it first yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yo, let's talk a little shit right now, man. Who's taking it this year? Who's taking it this year, man? Well, you know, you know, we know for back to backs. You know how many King Gardens, you know, we won our first two back to back. Yeah, but they say y'all ain't got Leo, man. I didn't do my low. I didn't do my low. Let's talk about white early. Let's talk in the town. Hey, listen, let's talk to the town. Hey, listen, man. That's all I'm gonna say, man. You know, you ain't ever been seen this in the NBA. People that won four straight. You ain't seen a college, you ain't seen a football team, a baseball Yankees, nobody wants four straight. Yo, listen, man. Yo, they're gonna be poured down by the time the game comes. We kinda laid down. We kinda lay down. Like, hey brought it up. They not gonna play. They gotta play no more because they can't beat us.

SPEAKER_00

Yo, listen, man. Listen.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yo, listen, first and foremost, run down the schedule. It's Park View versus Rock Creek, game one. Game one, one o'clock. One o'clock. Hold up, let it be say anything. 1 o'clock p.m. prime time. Yeah, beat. Park view against Rock Creek. Let them know the location in case some flowers. 340. 340. What's that? What's the name of the name of the street? Lafayette. It's on Lafayette. It's actually something else. It started with an H. But y'all know where it's at. Denon Park. Denim Park. It's escaping me right now. But y'all know everybody knows where Denham Park is. 1 p.m. 1 p.m. Telefriend to telephone.

SPEAKER_01

Let me let me let me say this before he keeps going.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

For the record, Park View is the only team with the wheel. I was gonna ask that.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, all right, so since we pop this shit, right? Every year. Woo! Every year, there's an argument about Park View's roster. Who we can't have, who we can't have, we get bullied every year. If I'm lying, I'm flying. There ain't no wings on here. It should be the softest project. Woo! Now listen, we don't like to argue, man. We we we but you know it's been what they can do.

SPEAKER_01

But let me tell you this, they probably been to the most chips. I mean, besides us, of course. Oh, okay. You know what I mean? But we just we're gonna heart. Yeah, but getting to the chip ain't it though. That's like getting to the dealership with King Cop. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen, getting to the chip is hard. Like Cutz could find the last trophy. I don't know where all four mine is. In other words, listen.

SPEAKER_00

Yo, that's Leo. This this is Leo's trophy right here, man. Leo's trophy. Leo did that. I close the hell of a kid. Listen. I close the hell of a kid. Yo, listen, listen. Listen. Listen.

SPEAKER_01

And the next three years in a row? No, this is this is last year. We got four. And you got zero. And Westmore got one. Yo, yo, let's go. And you know, we're generous last year. I'm not going to think about it. Westmore got it had to come down to a last shot. We we got generous. We got generous. 345 was the greatest shit.

SPEAKER_00

West more it was a parking West Morning shit. It was a leg up May, and it was like 40 points every day.

SPEAKER_01

Let's go back to the first one. We were doing the timing on the phone. So it was all a drastic. Listen, listen. A lot of me has been. Wow. We running with that. They say you're running with that means that the fact that it was just that was that was freshman year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's over 10 years ago. We still crying about that. Y'all gotta get a banger though. That's we gotta get it. Listen, listen. Listen, listen, they can't believe Westmore got one before.

SPEAKER_00

Listen, listen, listen.

SPEAKER_01

I ain't even gonna talk much, man. We've been hyping up that much, but I've been hearing they bringing the jelly guys out here. Yeah, we got we got we got we got the jelly. They got the jelly, they got the jelly.

SPEAKER_00

We got jelly jelly. We got the jelly stars, man. Let's see how they do. You know, we got a few other monsters. You know, that that that nigga shot up.

SPEAKER_01

Somebody somebody had the um spreads and shit up on Instagram, Brandon. Yeah, the fan literally had me stuck there like holding it. I'm like, hold up. Yo, he I got it. Yo, shout out to B on there. That was the big shout out to B. Oh, really? I said, hold up. B is had a marking in of whip my set of marking in. He's not on the climb, he's the president. And B D. He's leaving the four-time champions to go play. Oh no, yeah, yeah. So if they happen to cut somehow win, happen to somehow win, he be the first B that got two chips with two different teams. Yeah. He was. B is the first one that got traded to another team. He traded himself. But that's it. I don't know if that's a good thing. I mean, no, no, no, Joe Strapped did one year. Joe Traff got traded to the West Side. He didn't win though. Yeah, he didn't win, but he came up, he was on the west side and he got traded to keep gardens. Now B is in Paul View now. Yeah. Well B got dual citizenship because he's from Paul View. He lived on the Players. You can play with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The West Side gotta be mad at me because I lived on the West a long time too. So why do you mean play? Because I'm King Gardens. I can rob with Paul View. I'm from first. You from first. You all from first. I can rob with Paul View, but you know? I die before I play anywhere else. Rock Creek for life. Rock Creek is isn't weird. That's one thing that's me. But he is rock priest. He is the priest right now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he ain't rapping it, but he's four for who's taking it in shit. Paul View's taking that thing, man.

SPEAKER_01

You know what, shot?

SPEAKER_00

Listen, listen, listen. Let's make this clear, man. Let's make this clear. Pop you take that thing, man. Paul View taking that thing, man. I'm not looking like no foolish shit, man. Paul View taking that thing. I'ma say it right now. Gotta hurt it first. Nah, G is coaching. G who? Joe Akridge Jr., man. Okay. Across the. Yeah, the great one of the greatest coaches. Okay, New Jersey.

SPEAKER_01

I know G was about to say Joe Chase. That's my nigga. That's Paul View, though. That's about View. You know Paul View to the death. He can come out and get free haircuts at halftime. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Get the time.

SPEAKER_00

Somebody need a chip. GM up. GM up doing doing half time. And he went fast and furious. You know how he do. You know how he do. Raise the sharp with that joint, man. 2.5 seconds. Listen, I would like to see.

SPEAKER_01

Listen, man. I would like to see Paul View and Westmore on the tip to shit. I would not. If it happens. But so this is what I told, and I I suggested this. Because a lot of times we end up in the chip. I said the chip should play each other second game. That way, at least it's a one new team in the finals. You know what I'm saying? For the team to play each other, though. But y'all picking out the hat, though. We're doing ramp. So it wouldn't be real. Westmore and Parkview could play each other in the chip. Rock we could lose to um Park View and we could lose to Westmore.

unknown

Not a shot in hell.

SPEAKER_01

It can't happen. He said, not a shot in hell. Jordan Dillon just landed. I like that. You know what I mean? They got the overseas guys over there on the west side. They got the jelly fam in Parkview. It's looking like it's about to go crazy. It's about to be a game one.

SPEAKER_00

It's gonna set the tone for the day. Game one, listen, this no, this is gonna listen, let me tell you all the big boys is coming out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

All the big boys are coming out this year. So before I forget this shit. I like that though. That you know, you got the matumbos, you got the you know, the little brother, you got the opening with cheese, because that's dope. So usually we don't want to get them heard. Right? Right, but they want to be a part of it. Yeah, they want to be a part of it. And with like, so even like like Jordan, I remember the year, one year we came out with these straight out of Rock Creek t-shirts, like camouflage t-shirts, and Jordan was like, Y'all want one. I was like, You ain't from the creekies? I'm from Inglewood, man. He was like, I'll wear a straight out of Rock Creek t-shirt because I'm from Inglewood. Like that. You know what I mean? He's like, yo, get me a shirt, man. Like, you know what I mean? Like you have people act like like like because it's about the town. You know what I mean? That's what I said earlier, you know what I mean? It's about the town, it represents us. It's about the town. And when when when they want to cut you off, but all generations is out there. That's what makes us and when they won last year, we went and cooked out with them. You know what I mean? Like that tasted like vinegar, but you know, I like it. You know what I mean? That's the same thing. You know what I mean? But I'd enjoy it. But we celebrate after each other, get up with each other or something. Yeah, it's all love afterwards. It's all love afterwards. And whip-block day. It's a lot of tension going on. That's that's when that's when the nigga shit comes out. I'm a ball player. Yeah, yeah. Slash used to be. Let's get together. You know what I mean? I know. Right. Me and this man had boys together. So, you know, I it's I love you to death, nigga, but you ain't on my team. Nah, that's that's how it goes. I was bell buzzing. I put on Facebook, I said, anybody that's not for rock three get locked up tonight, you stay in for the weekend because I'm not coming to get you. I'm not coming to get you.

SPEAKER_00

He meant that shit.

SPEAKER_01

I said, anybody with watchmall, Paul View, KG get locked up, call Kershaw. Because I'm not coming to get you.

SPEAKER_00

Nigga, you can stay in there till Monday. So, yo, let me tell y'all about the festivities this year. Um, food provided by um City Lobster. It's a new place in Hackersack, food sponsored by City Lobster. New place in Hackersack, check it out on Main Street. Um, bounty house for the kids. Please bring your kids out. Bouncy house for the kids. The kids come a little bit earlier. Oh, y'all gonna have the bounties, bouncy. The bouncy, the bouncy house is gonna be out there the whole time. The whole day. Alright.

SPEAKER_01

We gotta figure it'd be little kids out there. They're not gonna stay connected to the bouncy. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we need they need something to do. So we got the big bounty house for the children out there. Um, you know, food, like I said, food already. You know what I mean? Uh performances. Yeah, perform. You gotta have time performance. Uh, who we performing? Oh, OG OD2 Slime. OD2 Slime. OD2 Slime, yeah. OD2 Slime. Young K for Park. Yeah, young Keep for Park. That's my man that's my man, uh, that's my man Esco, aka Quad. That's his artist. Shout out to Quad. Let's go Records. Let's go Records. Let's go Entertainment. Let's go entertainment. Let's go Entertainment. Let's go entertainment.

SPEAKER_01

Letting them perform like things. Yeah, yeah, we get kids from Englewood too. Yeah. I mean it's only right. This is about Englewood, you know what I mean? Come and axe. Yeah. And the round table's gonna be in the building. Yeah, round table. Round table will definitely be in the building. You know what I'm saying? Topper. Topper used to be our announcer. Yeah, yo, R.I.P.

SPEAKER_00

the topper because yo, listen, those are tough shoes to fill. Yeah. Those are big shoes to fill when it comes to that that microphone. And that's that's the thing. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Toppa was there for first year. First yeah. First year. And the inception axed to do it. And they never asked for a dime. One time we like top, let's do something for you. He's like, give me a chip. Give me a chip. Top said, give me a chip. Give me a chance. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Like it's always like that, man. When J Vaughn got married, he was calling that nigga Oz Mary now. Every time J Von was come running up the call, he was calling that nigga Ozmar. I mean, but he fit it though. You understand?

SPEAKER_01

He fit. Yeah, that he fit the element of that day in that. And the festivities for that day, man. It's a natural orator.

SPEAKER_00

He wanted to do it every year, though. Yeah. He wanted to do it. Rest in peace the top, man. Rest in peace the top. Because he knew what it meant. Exactly. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

And you know TO, we all know TO is a people's person. Yeah. Basketball is staff. And love basketball. So it just, that's just T O, man. That's all asked finance, man. He's like, I got a game at three o'clock. But get there at 12 and he understand the whole time. Because he got somebody else coaching. Because it's so much going on. I was like, Tom, I'll leave now. I got somebody else there. I'm staying. Yeah, he was he was. So he got dedicated to it. That's what he did. Shout out to the um the guy doing it now. The guy Aziz. He's another upper coming rapper from the um from the neighborhood. Yeah. Um I actually called him the 4-4 representative. I asked him to call him for a young kid that did it last year. The young kid wasn't available. He said, Yo, that's how I'm gonna do it. I said, You sure? Because that's a play by play, you gotta have that. I said, I'm gonna do it. So yeah. And you outside. Let's be clear, you outside amongst us. So we can't eat this. So I said that's gonna try to fulfill the trying to fulfill the channel. He's gonna play, he's gonna be a good thing. He's gonna do what he got. He's gonna submit his foot and do what he does. He's gonna do it justice. You know what I mean? That's fact. That's dope. But y'all pass the torch to other cats, you know what I'm saying, after the passing of T Yo, just to keep the essence, you know what I mean? And younger cats, too. You know what I mean? Absolutely. It's keeping the essence of Inglewood Us and just giving them an opportunity because yo, on the low, we don't know what these cats might. Some of these young cats might want to be the next ESPN nigga. Never know. And this right here is just a little yo, you don't know what these young cats are coming out. You know what I mean? So it's it's outlets, it's doors, and that just goes to show you once again the goal for what this whiplock tour, man. For the community and the element of the community. Exactly. Um as we get ready to shut this thing down. I'm gonna let each one of y'all, man. I'm gonna throw a word at y'all, man, and I just want y'all to tell me, man, what it means to y'all, man. And the one word is the whiplop toilet. Whatever decided to start. City love, man. City love, man. I mean, I'm born and raised here. You know what I'm saying? Like, I remember when the when the four projects ain't get along. You know what I'm saying? So for us to be able to get together and have a have a basketball game where, you know, it gets intense, it gets nasty, but ain't nobody trying to punch nobody in the face. You know what I'm saying? So this is just all city love, man. Like, you know, it's just city love. That's what they do, plus um. You know what I mean? That's that's the I did uh really was because Inglewood Day had died down for a couple of years. And I remember when I when I moved here, Inglewood Day used to be lit. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? And it kind of died down a little bit over the years. And um, this right here is just like everybody from Inglewood come together and we laugh and joke. If you got problems with each other, leave that shit alone, joking. You might just in the in the situation there in the park. Right. It's England is love day. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's love day. So yeah, that's what we're all talking about. People give give us a pass that day, man, because it'd be it'd be it'd be facets that got got static. Right. You know what I mean? They got static and they let it go. And they let it go for that day. And then they end up figuring it out. Figuring it out, because you may they may start, they may have a conversation. They may have a conversation because it might not even be that deep. It might not even be that deep. I have seen out of ten is not. I have seen beefs get resolved at whipwalk too.

SPEAKER_00

I I personally have seen it. That's what love does. You know what I mean? That's what love does. So to me, I'ma keep it simple. Fam whipwalp means to me family, love, trust, and respect. Bottom line. That's what it represents. I mean, I can't make it any clearer than that. Family, love, trust, and respect. Because when we all out there, when they caught me in family, but after COVID, it's we all fam. It's all Englewood. Right. And you know what?

SPEAKER_01

On that note, fellas, man. Once again, before we get out of here, I want to salute y'all again, man. We all got our own path, we got our own lives for the past 12 years, which I did for this young man's legacy right here. You know what I'm saying? And his family, man. You can't replace that at all. You can't duplicate it, you can't go somewhere else and try to remix it, you can't let outsiders get in. And I stayed with the core. Yeah. You know what I mean? I stayed with the essence, the ideas, the constantly thinking, and really always putting the community first. Right. Yo, it ain't too many of us that even understand what that means growing up here in England for a young man, because that could have been one of us. Any of us. Absolutely, absolutely. And we all are raising children as well. So we are keeping the whole essence of this tournament, which I'm gonna hold up another shirt again, the white man, of what this day represents, what the culture means again. It's with white day, it's love day. Turn that around because it got the pop program on it. Pop one on the back. You know what I'm saying? So, yo, man, we gotta stop BSing, man, and understand, man, that it's a lot of great things going on in these different communities, man. But in Englewood, man, we got great brothers that don't get the flowers they deserve sometimes. I know they don't even want it. Let's be clear, these brothers is not looking for the hype. Let's let's feel I wanna I'm saying this. They're not looking for trophies. That's right. Let's be clear. This is the only trophy looking for. I need one more. You know what I'm saying? Every year, every year, when we do the flyer, I'm making my business that nobody's name is on the flyer. Yes, yeah. Y'all, nobody's name going on the flyer. At all. Except for here. As it should. As it should. So today Because this ain't an ego thing. Right. At all. It's not. It's love day. And it's each and every individual has a certain amount of love and respect. Ain't no big eyes and little you's over here. None of that. And that's why I commend y'all. That's why I once again thank you for reaching out to me, giving me this opportunity for this interview, letting me get more insight into the tournament. You know what I'm saying? I'm letting y'all know right now, whatever I can do, yo. Hit me, call me. I'm here. And that's for anything. When Meach hit me up, it was like, yo, let me just get to my guy. Yo, and it's here, man. So you know what it does. It's the voice of the coaches, the roundtable podcast, the Wit Wap Tournament Committee. Also, this is coming home. We got Rock Creek, KG, Parkview, Westbourne, and we got the trophy. We're gonna see you're gonna take it home. Well, next year, next year, say one thing, tip annual, and we're gonna play underneath the bright lights. In the big city, bright lights. Cape Park, bright lights.

SPEAKER_00

So the cave is gonna be at nighttime underneath the bright lights. Nighttime, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

It's the minute pull up, pull up, get we get there early. You know what I mean? And get fresh. I'm gonna get fresh next year for that. Please play with the bright lights. I would like to host it, man. I would be out of the day.

SPEAKER_00

That's your contract right there. You said you host it?

SPEAKER_01

That's a purple agreement. This is this is it, man. Yeah, that's gonna be out of here.

SPEAKER_00

You know what it is.

SPEAKER_01

Keep you take it, would you already know?
