SPEAKER_03

By 1899, the age of outlaws and gunsingers was at an end, and we've been mourning it ever since. Welcome to the Outlaw Haven, your home for Red Dead Redemption and the Wild West. I'm Sam. I'm Zaire. Today we are talking about chapter two or shoe overlook. And before we get into that, I just wanted to briefly mention we have one little tiny announcement. We have merch now. Yeah. Just a few things, just with our couple of logos. But if you wanted to support us, if you like what we're doing, you want to support us, check it out. Yeah, it's on worthwhile.

SPEAKER_02

It's in the link tree. It's in, of course, our bios now. But I have tried to make them the I've made them the cheapest I possibly can. So and of course we'll make more as time goes on and we get more bits and right.

SPEAKER_03

And said joke. What have you? Yeah, I'm sure today's episode is gonna bring us something good. Well, getting into it, the story so far, we if you did not listen to Culture, I'd suggest going back and listening to it, but you don't have to, I guess. If you don't want to, you've put you've you've probably played the game. It's fine. Yeah. Also, if my voice sounds weird, I caught my daughter's cold, so I'm doing my best. But story so far. After a failed robbery, Dutch's gang fled from Blackwater into the Grizzly Mountains, where a late spring storm left them half frozen and starving. Held up in an abandoned mining town, they licked their wounds before finally catching a break. After stealing documents from the rival O'Driscoll gang, Arthur and his companions were able to rob a train and see. Oh my god, a train. It's already starting. Oh my god. I don't know why I cannot say train like a normal human. Train Yeah. I don't know. Anyway, Arthur and his companions were able to rob a train and seize bonds from a powerful figure, a railway magnet called Leviticus Cornwall. Seizing the opportunity of a lull in the storm, the gang decided to move east to a new camp location, Horseshoe Overlook. Which is where our story begins today. I love Horseshoe Overlook, by the way. It was my favorite camp. It's so beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

Horseshoe Overlook and Clemens Point, top tier.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. And our first mission, we're gonna go with Polite Society, Valentine's style. Yeah, we're going off of what the guidebook goes by. But we're gonna follow along with that. So Polite Society, Valentine's style. We wake up Uncle very aggressively, by the way. Yeah, we kick him awake. That's fine. It's just Uncle. Yeah. Yeah, it's Lumbago. It's fine. And then we walk out, we're starting to walk out to the wagon to go into town, and we are interrupted by Karen, Mary Beth, and Tilly, who say they want to go with us because they're bored out of their minds.

SPEAKER_02

Apparently, Karen's about ready to murder Grimshaw, according to Mary Beth. And Arthur being Arthur is immediately like, Well, can Miss Grimshaw spare you? And then Karen is immediately rebuttaling that, being like, Can Miss Grimshaw spare you? What's happened to you, Arthur? After that, they go ahead and uh load up into the wagon and we drive into well, we start driving into the town of Valentine, which of course we talked about in our last episode with Heartlands. But on the way, there's a wagon driver that loses complete control of his wagon and his horses go off. And we can either go and choose to bring back his horses or just keep on keeping on and going to Valentine.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think I've ever skipped it. Always go and get the horse.

SPEAKER_02

I've skipped it a few times.

SPEAKER_03

Understandable. I know it's required for gold though. Then we get into Valentine and the girls go to the saloon to start. Yeah, the girls look for leads.

SPEAKER_02

And as like we're riding through Main Street.

SPEAKER_03

Uncle points out that there's bounties there for you. And then we go into the general store, and Arthur I Uncle always tells Arthur to grab something different. It's always like, You're looking kind of tired. Go grab some coffee or get you some whiskey or get a cigar. But he tells Arthur to get something, and I always just walk right back out. Yeah. I think it's in my money.

SPEAKER_02

Always tied to like maybe what your cores have to do.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. I never thought that far into it. I was just like, oh, sometimes he tells me to get a cigar, and sometimes he tells me to get coffee.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That's like that's the only thing I can kind of think of because I know it does that a couple other times in the game. But of course, this is where um the iconic uh parasite line comes from.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. You're my favorite parasite. I lied. Ringworm's my favorite parasite. Um then they sit and talk for a little bit, and Arthur kind of falls asleep, and then they wake up to Mary Beth saying that she has a lead on a train running through Scarlet Meadows. Oh my god, it's green. Here we go.

SPEAKER_02

She snuck into this fancy house and acted like a servant girl, as she apparently usually does. And someone was saying her sister was taking a trip from New York, of course. The train was full of rich tourists heading off to Saint Denis and then heading was gonna head off to Brazil from there. Maribeth is kind of like, think about it. It's a train that's laden with baggage passing through a bit of deserted country at night to get to the docks in time for the tides. And then Arthur's like, okay. Then he starts asking about Tilly and Karen. Maribeth continues to say that they picked up and fellers and uh went to the hotel, because they're gonna prop him, of course. Arthur is immediately like, okay, I'm gonna go see what's what, because Mary Beth continues to be like they've been gone for a while. And then we says there's Tilly over there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. We find Tilly getting harassed by Anthony Foreman.

SPEAKER_02

And of course you can break that up. And then after that, you head into the hotel and you go upstairs. And if you go into the room before the room you're supposed to go into, you come into a guy on the shitter. Roger has said numerous times that they've had to record that scene so many times because he kept breaking. That's so funny. And then after this mission is completed, if you go back up to that room, for like even in the epilogue, you can still hear him on the on the toilet just straining. Legend has it, he's still on the shitter. Yeah. Poor dude is struggling. Right. But anyway, if you enter Karen's hotel room, um, you'll have to kick down the door and you'll see uh Tom attacking her. Tom? So you put it Tom button? I don't know if you're actually I think it is. I think it might just stands as like a peeping Tom sort of a thing. I don't think there's a like a actual like proper name for him. So you break up the fight, and then after when you're w walking down the stairs, Karen mentions something about a bank. And then you continue to make yourself your way outside and regroup with Uncle and the girls. And then Mary Beth starts with uh, hey, who's that guy looking over, looking at us? And then the man goes, weren't you in Blackwater a few weeks back? Arthur responds, Me, no sir, ain't from there. Oh, you were. Well, I definitely saw you with a bunch of fellas. Me? No, impossible. Listen, buddy, come here for a minute. And then takes off on his horse and high tails out of there.

SPEAKER_03

Catch him, and then you can either push him off the edge of a cliff or save him. And it always cracks me up when he's like, then why are you chasing after me? And Arthur's like, I've got an unfortunate face. And the guy's like, Yes, me too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But if you save this is like our introduction to the honor system in-game. If you push him off the cliff, you'll lose honor. If you save him, you'll gain honor. And he will also give you a pen. We also learned that his name is Jimmy Brooks. And we will be doing a video on the strange man eventually. But there's also a theory that Jimmy Brooks is a test for Arthur. Because if you go into his into the strange man's shack in the bayou, on one of the side tables, there is a engraving that changes on depending on whether you save him or you kill him.

SPEAKER_03

There's also a rock. If you're going from Valentine towards Emerald Ranch, there's a big rock and it has a bunch of names on it, and one of them is Jay Brooks.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I forgot about that. Damn. That would run good for last week.

SPEAKER_03

Like, we're probably gonna talk about Heartlands a lot more in this episode, too. It's fine.

SPEAKER_02

On the table it says there was a man called Jimmy Brooks who was always running into crooks. Till one chased him down, and he had to talk his way down that Jimmy isn't as dumb as he looks. And I think the low honor version just changes like the last little little bit, like saying that Jimmy or Jimmy's family isn't gonna see him anymore or something like that. That's depressing as fuck. It's Rockstar, what do you expect?

SPEAKER_03

Fair.

SPEAKER_02

But also, if you get that pen, Mary Beth in chapter two, she can give you a mission or uh item request for a pen, and you can just give that pen to Mary Beth.

SPEAKER_03

I don't I just ignore everyone in camp so much.

SPEAKER_02

You can get it in uh chapter two or chapter three.

SPEAKER_03

God damn it, I really need to play this game again. Yes, I don't know how I have missed so much.

SPEAKER_02

That's what this podcast was for, right? Yeah, and after that, you can take the horse that you stole back in Valentine. You can either take it back to the owner or you can just take it for yourself and use it as a secondary horse. And again, it either well it gains you honor. I don't think it loses you any honor.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think you lose any honor by keeping the horse because it it bonds to you at the end of that mission. So yeah. There's you can keep it or don't. And it's a buckskin standard bread, useless information that's just off the top of my head. So of course you're gonna keep it. Yeah, I'm the weird horse girl, so I'm gonna point out all the different horse breeds in this game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, exactly. You point out horses, I point out guns, it's fine.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

See, okay, balance. I need to talk about something real quick about the horses in this game.

SPEAKER_02

But shoot.

SPEAKER_03

Because I'm gonna nerd out about the horses. So the like biggest thing that I guarantee any horse girl listening to this will agree on that Rockstar really did right. I mean, obviously they did a great job making the horses look realistic, but oh god, I'm such a dork. The the horse's leads in the game, depending on which direction you're going, like when they are cantering or galloping, the the leg that they have out in front is called their lead. And depending on which direction you're going, if you're turning to your right, you need to be on your right lead. If you turn to your left, you need to be on your left lead. And Rockstar did that. So like if you turn your horse, it changes leads. And like no other horse game does that. So all the horse girls know what I'm talking about, and we're like, heck yeah, we have correct leads. We have lead changes in this game.

SPEAKER_02

So that was my rant for today. For now, but yeah, that's the end of the first mission. But if you go back into Valentine, you can go into the saloon where it brings us into our second mission, Americans at Rest. And you go inside Smithfields and you come across Javier and Charles land against a bar talking to two working girls. And Arthur does a horrible job at talking to these women.

SPEAKER_03

But uh, well, ain't you just a toughest teak mountain man? That's one of my vocal stins. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Arthur starts off asking how much how much you cost anyway. And then one of them, Anastasia, immediately says, Well, ain't that a nice way to talk to a lady? And then Arthur's meaning, like, Oh, I didn't know I was talking to a lady. Like Arthur really loses his fucking attitude.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's like part of it because of like obviously like we talked about with episode one, is Isaac was originally supposed to die in culture, so it's like, oh, maybe he was a little spicy because he was grieving his son.

SPEAKER_02

Because, well, there's a whole bunch of cut Arthur lines, too, that are so much fucking darker than what we see.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, I can't wait for our cut content episode. Holy shit.

SPEAKER_02

It's like we can do a couple probably cut content episodes. There's that much. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Anyway, Americans at rest. Avir immediately starts and rebuttals with well, I must say, you have a fine way with the women.

SPEAKER_03

And then Bill walks in, and we immediately get into a big bar fight.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Bill walks in and bumps into a guy, and Arthur's immediately like, You about to kiss that guy or punch him? And then Bill headbutts him, I think.

SPEAKER_03

I think he punches him, doesn't he? Or a punch- No, he does punch him. He punches him, and then Arthur's like, Oh, we got our answer. Or no, Javier says it.

SPEAKER_02

And then Charles throws a chair at one of the guys, and because I'm fucking me and I watched way too many Red Dead panels, I learned that that wasn't No Shir that threw that chair, that it was actually Ben that threw that chair. Ben who played Dutch. Dutch, yeah. And that leads us into the bar fight, and then at the end of it, a big burly guy comes j trotten down the stairs. Trotten and trotten. Just making his way down the stairs. And uh get a whole cutscene for him. Of course, this is Tommy. And he's immediately he takes Arthur and just fucking rolls him over the table and throws him through a window. Like a ragdoll. Gives us one of our best like transitions, though, I will say. It is yeah, that's a good one. So cool.

SPEAKER_03

And that's um they died out in the mud, and then it's broken up by none other than Thomas Downs, which I didn't even know that was Thomas Downs for the first like three game plays. I didn't even know that was Thomas Downs.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't realize that until a little bit later. And Thomas starts squealing at Arthur to stop and whatnot. Yeah. I mean, he did give Tommy some brain damage, so can't blame him for him.

SPEAKER_03

They break up their fight, and we see Dutch walking in with Josiah Trelawney, who tells us that they forgot Sean and Blackwater, that he he found him. And so Dutch sends Charles and Javier down to Blackwater with Trelawney and then tells Arthur to get cleaned up and head over there.

SPEAKER_02

And then Bill's immediately like, well, what about me? Well, what about you, Bill? It's one of my favorite like little ending bits to a cutscene. Well, what about me? Well, exactly. What about you? What does that mean? It's great. I love it.

SPEAKER_03

And then that one, and then that leads us into we have obviously a few choices on what mission we do next, but we're just following the book.

SPEAKER_02

But in the book, it leads us to Who is Not Without Sin, which is at Flatneck Station with Reverend Swanson.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. And you find Swanson playing poker with a couple guys, and Swanson is Donzo. Oh yeah. And the guys that he's playing poker with ask Arthur to join in with him. And if you want to get gold, you do need to play and win two hands of poker. And then we go back out, which before we go back out of that, I think like it's telling of Arthur's character. But those guys are kind of bad-mouthing Swanson. Talking about how, like, can you imagine him at the pulpit? And on the fourth day turned water into whiskey, that whole line. And then Arthur says he's what does he say?

SPEAKER_02

You have the script in front of you. Um it's not in a cutscene.

SPEAKER_03

It's in a cutscene. Oh no, it's during the poker game.

SPEAKER_02

It's during the poker game.

SPEAKER_03

Well, Arthur basically says he's a man going through a bad time. Disrespect him again, and you'll find yourself in a bad time too. Like even if Arthur's like he talks shit about like everyone in this gang, but he will defend them against the stranger. Like he's like that big brother that's like, only I'm allowed to pick on you. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So I think that's just cool to Arthur's personality there. But then we go back outside to find Swanson, and you can ask two guys outside if they've seen him, but I never do. I just keep running because I know where he's at.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um you just run. There's uh like a guy hurting some sheep, and uh then you can continue, and then you end up getting punched by another guy. Well, you find Swanson fighting with a guy, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And you go and knock him out, and then there's a guy who says, You killed him, and then goes and runs to get help.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and that's kind of the witness to like the yeah, the witness system. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So stop the witness, and then you gotta run back up the hill and go find Swanson. You go and find Swanson on the tracks, and he's got his foot stuck on the tracks on the bridge, and there's a train coming. Arthur says, What have you done with your foot? And Swanson says, It appears to like this place and wants it to stick. You pull his foot out, the train goes by. If you don't get his foot out in time, do you get hit by the train and die?

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, you get hit by the train and the mission fails.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't know if you actually saw that or if it failed before that. I mean, it's Rockstar. I should have expected that honestly. But so you get Swanson off of the bridge. You have this whole dialogue with him for a minute where they're arguing, and Swanson's like, Why are you trying to throw me off a bridge? And Arthur's like, There was a goddamn train, you crazy bastard.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, what the hell is wrong with me throwing me off a bridge like that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and so you have to get Swanson back to camp within like a certain time limit. You have like a minute to get Swanson back to camp in order to get gold. You get Swanson back to camp, and this is our one this is our one and only chance to get our horse into camp. To like ride our horse into camp. Well, you have Swanson on the back, you can ride your horse right up to Swanson's tent, get it off. And if you've rescued Sean at this point, Sean's standing right there and he says, I missed that crazy bastard. Something like that. And you get Swanson into his tent and Susan says she'll keep an eye on him. That's pretty much it for that mission. That leads us into first shabby last. This is where we meet up with Javier and Charles in eventually Trelawney too, uh, on a cliff edge overlooking Blackwater. You're keeping an eye on what's going on in Blackwater. Then Trelawney says that Sean's being moved up the upper Montana. He's coming in on a boat, taking him to a campsite, trying to see how much the law will pay for him. Being held by bounty hunters, who is hike scouting screw, which Arthur says is a wild bunch. So we follow along the canyon, and following that canyon scene with the boat is so slow. It's so slow.

SPEAKER_02

But that's also where we get our first like actual mention, like full on name drop of Heidi McCourt. Because Trelawney does talk about how Dutch killed a young mother, and this is actually the first time we learned that Heidi Rakurt was a young mother, because in Red Dead 1, it was just like she was a girl, Dutch Vanderlyn shot in the head in the raid in the ferry. But otherwise, that's the only interesting thing we learn on that ride. Otherwise, it's so painfully slow.

SPEAKER_03

It's very slow. But we get out there, we see them, the bounty hunters pull Sean off the boat. I almost said train. We see the bounty hunters pulling Sean off the boat, and we ride down into the like down the canyon. And Trelani says he has an idea of how we're gonna take care of this. He does this little distraction where he's crying, saying he lost his Bessie. Which is funny. Trelani just lays on the ground and starts freaking out, and then we take down those bounty hunters, and then we go up the canyon, and Trelani runs off after taking over. I know. But he doesn't go back to camp. Arthur and Javier run up the canyon, taking out all these bounty hunters. It's another shootout.

SPEAKER_02

And then Charles is taken fire from like the top of the cliff and joins out, joins up with them at the end. And then they continue to make their way to a campsite.

SPEAKER_03

Where we see Sean Maguire hanging upside down from a tree. Yep. And I believe to get the gold on this one, you have to shoot the rope. Shoot the rope, yeah. You have to shoot the rope and not cut Sean down. I forget what the other requirements are for gold on that. So to get the gold on this one, you have to silently kill the bounty hunters by the river with Javier, shoot the rope to free Sean, get 10 headshots, complete the mission without using any health items. And we get Sean down, and then Javier and Charles take Sean back to camp, and Arthur sticks around to loot the bodies. And if you stick around long enough, then bounty hunters, or is it bounty hunters or is it law that goes?

SPEAKER_02

It's just the law.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, if you stick around long enough, then the law comes after you. So that's pretty much the end of that mission.

SPEAKER_02

It also does give me honestly some of my favorite some of the favorite lines. Sean, like immediately is like, you know, you're a lot less ugly from that other angle, Arthur. And then Sean's like, Do I get a hug? A warm embrace for a lost brother now found. Arthur starts, you know, nothing means more to me than this gang. The bond we share, it's the most real thing to me. I would kill for it, I would happily die for it. But in spite of all that, I would have easily left you here to rot if Charles hadn't stopped me. Sean says, I don't believe a word of that, Arthur. It also plays into that, like you were saying, like the whole like older brother type thing, being like I'm the only one that gets pick on you type of a deal.

SPEAKER_03

And of course, once you do this mission, once you go back to camp, it automatically goes into Sean's party. So even if it's daylight, you get that transition of the weather and it turns to nighttime and it goes into Sean's party, which I'm not going to get into this episode. We are gonna save that one for an upcoming episode. So we will save that for later, but it is coming. Yes. So skipping ahead.

SPEAKER_00

A lot of little secrets and stuff. Fun conversations.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So next is paying a social call. This is the one where we go and talk to Kieran Duffy, who is still tied to the tree. And gone, I know you want to say it. Again, I I don't know if I've said it on this, if it got clipped out or not, but like it will be now. This is the one where Dutch tells Bill to guild him. And of course, in my story that I wrote, my character says, Why is Bill so obsessed with Kieran's balls?

SPEAKER_02

Oh god. Yeah, it's I mean, to be fair, I don't know what like the beat was for that specific scene. It's but it's like, yeah, why did like why did Bill get it?

SPEAKER_03

I think there's like three separate moments where Bill mentions gelding Kieran.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, plus there's a random event after Kieran gets untied from after this mission, where you can encounter Bill like fucking bullshit threatening Kieran with the with the tons. But for this mission, Kieran leads John and Bill, and of course Arthur, up to six-point cabin in Cumberland Forest.

SPEAKER_03

And along and along this ride, Bill also gives us throwing knives, which is like our introduction to throwing knives. And we get the opportunity to ask John how he's been doing since his wolf attack. And it's either that or you can ask Bill something. And I don't remember what he asks Bill, because I was asking when Arthur's being mean to John about like I fear you don't know how to help anyone except in yourself.

SPEAKER_02

And uh John says how you treat your friends.

SPEAKER_03

See, Bo Driscoll, this is how he treats his friends, being what he does to his enemies.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. Which of course is a non-deretted one when you're riding with uh Marshall and his boys. And of course, we'll we'll get into that eventually. Gotta get through this big ass game first.

SPEAKER_03

Right. You get to six point cabin and you see a few of the Odriscolls walking back towards the cabin. And I forget what they're talking about, where they say that their uh home was gonna kill anyone should be that mean son of a bitch or something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because well they just they didn't I think they're off like trying to get a scored or something because they're talking about how they don't have anything for the pot. And one of them is like, wait, I need to take a piss, you guys go on without me. And he's like, No, we've heard that before. We're gonna wait, and you can tell him yourself. And then while the guy's pissing, the other two are like, if colm were to kill anybody, or yeah, if colm were to kill anybody, I can't remember the line, but it's something about it's like if he were to kill anybody, it would be that mean sound of a bitch. Of course, talking about like Colm.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so you you move forward on the camp with Bill, take out the guy that's being on the tree, take out the next two guys, and you just keep way up, and then you can either have John move forward, and that that kill that John does is like violent, man. The guy on the log. Yeah, I guess stabs him like six times or something. Not like twice, but like John stabs him a bunch of times, and Arthur's like, Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah this is a good point to mention the uh gold requirements.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so at this point it's you need to silently kill four of the Odriscals, get 12 headshots, finish with at least 80% accuracy, complete the mission without using any health items. It also says if you eliminate all the lone Odriscolls on the camp perimeter with bow headshots, you then only need to carefully and methodically take out the remaining ones from cover during the final shootout to get a perfect result.

SPEAKER_02

But you can go I usually go in there just guns placer. Yeah, you make your way into the cabin. As you open the door, Inner Driscoll shoves the door open from the inside. And of course, knocks Arthur to the ground, and he's got a shotgun pointed at his face. So Kieran comes over and shoots the guy, kind of proving himself. And they go into the cabin expecting Colin to be there. He's not, and Arthur immediately kind of turns on Kieran being like Coleman just going here. And Kieran's like, he was there, I swear. And Bill kind of vouches for him, being like, he has a point, and then that's kind of where That's when they decide to take Kieran to take him back to count. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. And then of course, if you stick around to loot all the bodies, then Law shows up and Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But there's also a lot inside the cabin, which you in order to finish the mission, you have to go in and get that shotgun off the wall. Yeah, because there's a whole bunch of uh there's money all over the floor and whatnot.

SPEAKER_02

And then of course the uh double barreled shotgun you can find on the mall too.

SPEAKER_03

So that's kind of our intro to like maintaining your weapons.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Maintaining weapons. And then too, kind of the idea of like, hey, there's these like weapons stro strewn about the world too, because there's a few other locations you can go to to get like free weapons.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, there's also a few rare weapons that you can find hiding on the map, which I think I feel like we could knowing you, we could almost do a whole episode just on the weapons in this game.

SPEAKER_02

Probably. I mean, there's like 68, 78, something like that.

SPEAKER_03

I I don't think I would contribute a whole lot to that episode. You know more about weapons than I do, but yeah. That leads us into money lending and other sins parts one and two. And this is where we talk to Leopold Strauss. So Strauss tells us that he has a few people that owe him money and you need to go get it back for him. And then this is how we are introduced to the money box and the ledger in camp. So you're only required to do one of them. Of course, I always do Mr. Roble because he's closest to camp.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But but there's three of them. Of course, Mr. Roble, there's Chick Matthews and Lily Millet. Lily Millet and Chick Matthews are pretty close together. Chick Matthews is at the Chadwick Farm. Chadwick Farm is where Mary is at.

SPEAKER_03

He's at Guthrie Farm.

SPEAKER_02

And then Lily Millet is at Emerald Ranch, just outside of what used to be Miriam's general store there. And Lily Millet's one is fairly easy. You go there, you get into a fight, you knock him out, you stop the witness.

SPEAKER_03

I only just finally like stopped the witness successfully for the first time. Well, if you shoot him, then you get a bunch of other witnesses, and then it turns into like chaos.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I like chaos.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, so do I. Like I didn't know you could actually successfully stop the witness without it turning into chaos.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I've only done it once. And then Chick Matthews is a bit more interesting. Um, if you don't like lasso him immediately, he'll like lead you on this whole chase and then can you lasso him immediately? Yeah. Not like before you start the Chick Matthew, like the pressing like X or whatever to like actually greet him to start the mission. But like once you greet him, you can go ahead and just take out your lasso and see.

SPEAKER_03

I was trying to do that that last time I did it, because I'm trying to get that what's the achievement that I'm working on?

SPEAKER_02

Oh lending a hand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'm working on lending a hand. So I just did this one and I tried to last one. I think I did it from the start and it canceled the whole mission out because the other guy that was near Chick Matthews like just takes off running.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you gotta kinda like wait for sometimes what I tend to do for it is like you kinda gotta wait for him to go like a little bit away, just like outside of basically the fence, and then you can grab him, and then from there just otherwise it'll lead you to like the outside of the train tracks, and then you'll hog tie him, and you can loot his body, and he'll give you a treasure map that'll lead you to a couple of trees outside, and then we'll give you a changes his entire life savings hidden in a tree. And then if we go to uh Mr. Roble on uh painted sky in West Elizabeth, um, he is speaks no English, uh speaks only Polish. And you beat him up because I doesn't extend it. Because of course you do. That's kind of our introduction to like house robberies in a way. Because you go through and you steal like his wedding ring. And you can go through and steal literally everything from that house.

SPEAKER_03

You can even steal his horse out in the barn. It's apple-gray Hungarian half-bread that you can buy from Valentine's Stables.

SPEAKER_02

And then I would also say that like he'll say another line there, like you do end up stealing his horse that like he he has nothing left, type of a deal. But then, and that's that mission. You can come back to camp. Talk to Strauss.

SPEAKER_03

You put you put the money in the money box at camp, and then you have to buy something for the camp in the ledger. Yeah. I always thought you could uh I always do the upgrade for Duchess Tent so that we can unlock do fast travel. Yep. After that, Strauss and Arthur will talk and uh that's where he tells us that he needs us to go see Thomas Downs next. Yeah. Yeah. Not a fun mission. Nope. But the next mission is fun. Yeah, the next mission is a quiet time.

SPEAKER_02

One of the fan favorites. It's so good. And it's one of also the only other ones that Molly has an actual fucking part in. God.

SPEAKER_03

Molly needed more fucking screen time, man. She really did. We start the mission off by talking to Dutch, and Lenny comes writing up out of breath, saying they've got Micah. He's in jail at the sheriff's office in Strawberry. They're gonna hang him. Dutch tells us to go get Micah, even though Arthur very much does not want to go get Micah.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

But not fucking Dutch saying, you think I can't see past his bluster to the heart inside? He is a fine man. Like.

SPEAKER_03

No. No, he's not. No. But so before we do that, Dutch tells us to take Lenny into town and get him drunk. Valentine, not Strawberry. And we ride in there and Lenny's telling us how they went to Strawberry, ran into a few fellas, one of them Micah knew, and it just became chaos. As it does. Yeah. He says they were ready to string him up there and then. Which honestly, knowing Micah, do you think that he was trying to get Lenny arrested? Oh, a thousand percent. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that settles that. I'm like, it's like it's a one perfect setup, let alone the race difference.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think he's already had issues with Lenny leading up to this point anyway. So we get into the saloon, and they're leaning on the bar, having a drink, just talking, and drunk guys stands next to Arthur, and he's just like blabbering, like making fun of Arthur and Lenny, kind of like repeating them. And you get the choice to either charm him or beat him, correct? Correct options. I know, but you don't get this you don't get the third option right away. You get two options at first, and then like you take long enough, then you get the third option. I think which is to beat him.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So you can either I think you charm him or antagonize him, right? Charm, antagonize, or beat. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah. I didn't even know that you could beat him until like I had played through it a few times. I didn't even know that was an option because I just was always like, let's charm him. And you were like, antagonize. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

I always waited.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Well, then he leaves, and that leads us to the the medals. To get gold, you have to try to make amends with an old rival, catch Lenny in the act, and don't get arrested.

SPEAKER_02

So we're so many different stages to this. There's different stages of like how drunk this.

SPEAKER_03

So you get like before Arthur's just totally hammered. He's tipsy. And you have to go find Lenny. And if you go to the table, like kind of in front of the stairs, it's like the table closest to the stairs. You find Tommy sitting there. Tommy is the guy that we beat up back in the uh Americans at Rest mission. And you sit there and talk to Tommy, and Tommy's non-verbal at this point, but Arthur's trying to have a conversation with him, and he's too drunk to have a conversation with Tommy. It's hilarious. But yeah, that is how you get the gold by making amends with an old rival.

SPEAKER_02

Second stage, everyone turns into Lenny.

SPEAKER_03

Well, before that, so like part of this is to catch Lenny in the act. So if you go up the stairs and turn left, up the stairs and turn right, you go to the hotel room or the you go to a room, and you can open that door and you see the two people doing it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But that's after everyone turns into Lenny.

SPEAKER_03

You can do it before they turn into Lenny.

SPEAKER_02

I know you can do it before, but it doesn't give you the gold.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, true. But you can catch two people in the act before they turn into Lenny. Or you wait until the next stage when Arthur's more intoxicated. And then you go up there, and then the people in the act are also Lenny. Like everyone in the bar is Lenny. So but then you go up after that first stage, you find Lenny up on the balcony, like overlooking the saloon, and Lenny says, How come you've never been married? And no one would no one have me. No one would have me. So sad. And every girl that's ever played this game is like, I would suit yourself. Oh man. So then stage three happens after they do the can can with people instead of starting another bar fight. Arthur's out there taking a piss. Yep. Arthur playing that scene. Or not Arthur. Roger playing Roger playing that game and getting to that scene where he's peeing and you can't see his dick. Cracks me up. I think that clip is on Roger's TikTok and Instagram. I'm pretty sure. So funny. But so then we go outside and the guy who was making fun of us at the bar earlier is back there and Arthur tries to drown him in the trough. Yep. So aggressive. But then law comes out and you have to escape the law. And you either escape law by running, which is really hard when Arthur's drunk, but you run, turn right behind the saloon.

SPEAKER_02

I think I've only failed it once.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I it took me a few tries. Because I just kept running into a hole. Right. You go run around the back and then he jumps a fence and you wake up at Flat Next Station. Yeah. And Arthur always has a different line for when he jumps over the fence. It's always like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, or you'll never catch me alive. I'm an American. Yeah. There's always some dialogue there.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like I always get I'm an American. I feel like it just changes on us like your honor, I think. Or like how your gold status is in the mission.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I guess that's what you did to I always get life liberty in the pursuit of happiness, so it must be gold. But if you don't, if you get caught, you wake up in a jail cell with Lenny and sit outside the sheriff's office. They I think they say like ten bucks and you're free to go or something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And then Arthur ends up, of course, giving it to him, and then they walk outside and Lenny immediately vomits. Does Arthur also vomit?

SPEAKER_03

I think he does, yeah. I think they both do. Yeah. Then when you wake up at Flatneck Station, you wake up and Arthur starts puking. I always have to like take my spare horse. If I have a spare horse, I'll go put it at Flatneck Station before I even begin this mission. So I can have a ride back. Because otherwise you just have to like run back to camp and Arthur's core is drained.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. Well, even then, you have to run all the way back to Valentine if you don't have a spare horse at camp.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you have to run all the way back to Valentine to get your horse. So that's pretty much it for quiet time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That's a fair amount through chapter two.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think that pretty much does it for chapter two for part one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So stay tuned for part two of chapter two. That is coming not Thursday after you hear this one, but the one after that. So that it'll be this episode. So there's gonna be one more episode after this one, and then it will continue with chapter two in the next episode after that. Yeah. So mm

SPEAKER_02

May 14th is when part two will come out.

SPEAKER_01

There we go.

SPEAKER_02

And we will be picking up with Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego. Okay. Which is also a fun mission.
