S & S get to the bottom of that ancient question… “What is a Musical”

SPEAKER_01

Is it is it is it uh is it eight o'clock? Somewhere, somewhere it should be eight o'clock everywhere. Because the time should not have to change according to where you're standing in the world. Yeah. Dark light, it should be the same time. Right, but it's but right, I get, yeah. But it but it but it might it's it's eight o'clock in California, from what I understand. It is that's what they tell me. I'm in Florida over here where it's practically lunchtime. My stomach's growling. Did you say good morning to people this morning? Did you I didn't see anybody, I haven't seen anybody today, but I even when I thought about it yesterday, I realized yesterday I realized it doesn't have to be good morning, it could be good afternoon, right?

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, but it's a it was a life hack to start your day. That's kind of it was a yeah, I yeah, okay, that's a good one.

SPEAKER_01

But you're right home a lot. I don't really get out a lot in the morning. Sometimes I do. A lot of times I'm just working in the yard. I'm I right as I could say good morning to the birds. You probably you could. I wonder if that would good morning. Good morning.

SPEAKER_00

But you have to look the birds in the eye and mean it.

SPEAKER_01

How many e's do you have in your name, Steve? Have you ever thought about that? I think you like got a full house at E's. I mean, a full house, I mean, I don't know if that's the right word. Five E's. Straight flush. You have five E's, right? Mm-hmm. Did you did you did you try your middle name? You got any E's in your middle name? I don't. Well, let's not think about your middle name then. Let's just look at your first and last name and look at five E's. No, that is really uncanny. Unusual? I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know words.

SPEAKER_01

Unbelievable?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know words. What I do know is that that um I'm I'm getting I'm getting um podcast advice from my my my kids. Oh so here's the newest one. The newest one is Sadie was saying that Egot was telling us that we don't we don't we're not talking about anything, right?

SPEAKER_01

Um then you came up with a life hack. Did Egot hear that one?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think e got I don't think he did. Um Yeah, we need to stop worrying about Egot, but go ahead. But yeah, so she said she said, and and and remember how Egot said that I don't listen to you, I just I just talk and well he just made it with that he only listened to one episode. But still, still that so this is I'm just this the setup for what for what Okay, okay, okay. She was saying, you know, I understand you want to be inspirational. And Satchel was talking about being on a ladder, so you could have just continued the ladder conversation rather than just like left turn, you know, into some other topic, which is what I do. Like she said, you could have continued the e-got uh the um the ladder conversation and then found inspiration in talking about ladders. So I guess I'm supposed to like the the flow, the conversation has to flow more rather than left turned and then right turn. But we only have eight minutes. I don't know that Sadie really understands what it's like to only have I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think she's ever yeah, she's never been on an eight-minute podcast in her life.

SPEAKER_00

She's a ballet dancer, so you know, um ballet. Huh? She does ballet. She does ballet, yeah. She does ballet. Ballet, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she does. Do you ever see that movie? Um, that ballet movie. Um what's it called? I don't know. It's about a little boy who wants to do ballet.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, okay. Sadie's already answered it in her head. It's Billy Elliott.

SPEAKER_01

Billy Elliott, and it I don't I haven't seen it in probably 20 years, maybe when it came out. But I remember liking that movie so much and getting the soundtrack even and having and because it was uh it was it was maybe um T-Rex. Oh, was it was part of the soundtrack, and I don't remember who else, but I remember liking the soundtrack. I remember liking the movie, and then it was like a little boy who wanted to do ballet dancing belly, you want to do belly, and so I really want to see it again. I really need to re-watch it.

SPEAKER_00

You should keep your eye out because they made a Broadway musical out of it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I'd love to see that. I love musicals.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, oh I'm I'm so glad to hear you say that that you love musicals.

SPEAKER_01

I love musicals. I told you this when I was out there. I love that one. Uh well, burlesque was great.

SPEAKER_00

No, you love movie musicals, that doesn't count.

SPEAKER_01

That's different. Well, I'm in Gainesville. We don't have like we're not in LA. We don't have like we can't just go see a musical down the street here. Well, you can I did see, yeah, not in Gainesville.

SPEAKER_00

Well, but you can you can you can watch them on TV? You can. I mean, that doesn't really count either, but it's better than saying that movie musicals are musicals.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I guess they kind of are, but well, the greatest showman. That was really good.

SPEAKER_00

Also not a musical. I mean, I know it's a musical. It is it's a musical. I know it's a musical, but you are such a snob. It's I I'm a well, I'm a theater snob, and that's different. You're exactly you're you're you you know, you can say, Oh, I'm a bumpkin.

SPEAKER_01

I'm just kind of hillbilly.

SPEAKER_00

But you can't say that because you love m movies, and then you love musicals, you love the musical version of movies that you love musicals because if I oh no no no no, well, I can't say that because look at this.

SPEAKER_01

If I love a movie that is a musical, I love every movie musical, I'm bound to also love theater, musicals.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's not a hundred percent because some people don't can't like you know, the concept of what's the percentage? 98? I don't know. I don't know. I'm just saying that you can't say you love musicals just right off the bat. You have to say I love movie musicals.

SPEAKER_01

I would like to a movie musical.

SPEAKER_00

I would like to experience a real musical in the theater.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, here's here's yeah, here's here's a funny story. Egot, um, which reminder to our millions of fans means Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony, and he's won two of them, but he's gonna win all four of them, which is why I call him Egot. Um why do you call him Egot? Because he's gonna win an E-got, and he'll be the only person I know that has an Egot. But what's an E-got? I just I just told you. I did.

SPEAKER_01

I was thinking you were talking about him. Yes. If you win an Oscar and a Grammy and a Tony and a what else?

SPEAKER_00

And a uh Emmy, Oscar, well, E got. Emmy, G, Grammy, O, Oscar, T, Tony. If you win all four awards, you have an E got. And there's very few people who've done it. Um and he'll probably do it too. So he's got two of them, he's got to get two more. He's got to get a Grammy and a Tony. But the funny part is Tony is theater, and he doesn't like the theater, really. In fact, he tells me the story that when he went to Les Miz, which is one of the biggest, bestest, coolest musicals, he fell asleep and he felt bad.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe he was just tired.

SPEAKER_00

It's gonna be tough for him to get the tea. That that's the thing.

SPEAKER_01

It's gonna be hard to get the tea, right?

SPEAKER_00

I have to get him, I have to work on maybe there's another one.

SPEAKER_01

Didn't you say you had a telly?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, that, but that doesn't count.

SPEAKER_01

That's maybe you could give him your telly and we could call that one the tea.

SPEAKER_00

That's a great idea.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I like that idea. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's good that we have these talks. It it is, it is. We didn't say anything this time for sure. No inspiration, and now we gotta wrap it up.

SPEAKER_01

We gotta wrap it up already, wrap it up. Wrap it up.

SPEAKER_00

I'm I'm uh putting a spigot in the yard. I just tested it and.
