Steve watches in amazement as a spider magically packs up its tent

SPEAKER_01

Hey man. Yeah, well well uh welcome to uh I don't know welcome to the podcast. Or it's not really a podcast yet. No, it's not. Welcome to the p podcast planning planning podcast.

SPEAKER_02

I'm watching this spider on my porch. You know, um bugs are just amazing. Bugs are? Or just any, you know, critters. Critters are amazing. I'm watching this guy like he's I've never seen this. He's basically folding up his web. So when I when I was out here, he had a full-on web, the kind of web you you would think, right? Yeah. And it started like disappearing, and I'm like, what's going on? But it was the the spider himself, or herself, or itself, that was folding, it's like he was packing up his web, and now it's just like taking it, like taking it up, like not leaving it behind, but like rolling it out. Yes, rolling it up, he's rolling it up, and now it's one strand, it's one strand between two um two branches, and and so now I'm looking at one strand, and 20 seconds ago, I was looking at a full web. Now the question is, where did it go? You for you were 20 how long ago? 20 seconds. He folded this thing up in 20 seconds, and this web was like two feet by two feet, like it was a substantial web. And and and when I came out here, I saw the web kind of doing something. I thought, oh, what's going on? And it was full, it was like folding, disappearing, and now it's now okay, now the one string is gone, it just disappeared. The one string was like four foot long, right? Or the one strand of web was four foot long, and now it's gone. But I didn't see like what is he eat it, like it didn't float away, it just disappeared. It's like it he sucked it it back into his body somehow.

SPEAKER_01

See that's what I would that's what I would think that he's sucking it back in his body, although I did not know that was a thing.

SPEAKER_02

I did I've never me neither. Me neither. It was just amazing to watch that whole thing. He like he like he like um it's like when you put your 10 away. He put he put the tent away.

SPEAKER_01

But it's faster, but it's much faster.

SPEAKER_02

Way faster. And and also you didn't he didn't put the 10 away, it disappeared. The tent just disappeared. I am not kidding you. I wish I was filming it.

SPEAKER_01

But you don't have to be filming it, you could just watch it, you know, and enjoy it and stuff like that. Yeah, and and but yeah, I know it's neat. I mean, I bet I bet that there's uh a documentary out there about spiders that like you know covers this. You think there's a documentary about spiders somewhere? I bet there is. I bet and it covers how they they and they probably tell you how they fold up their tent and put it away, you know. They pack it up. I mean, but like I've now now you've got me now you've got me curious enough that I want to Google like you know, spiders. It was amazing. It was amazing, getting rid of their website.

SPEAKER_02

The other question is like, why? Because I walked through webs, you know, that someone set up. Like there's other webs in this area on this tree that aren't folded up. In it let me I would think they just leave them behind. Let me say it's in his hood. But this so there's there's webs that are there's a branch, uh there's two trees next to each other, and there's a branch with some leaves, and it's got some webs on it. Well, this morning, from this branch all the way to the other tree, which was like four foot, there was a huge web, and then two feet up and down, basically. Right? So he added out for he was he was, you know, he was hunting last night. Took it out for the morning, and then he decided, okay, I'm gonna pack it up. But you would think you why pack it up because it's just you could make a new one. Well, but he I'm sure he can make all the new ones he wants. He doesn't need to like reclaim, he's not recycling his web juice, is he? Like but but when you're on the last thread, right?

SPEAKER_01

So you got a thread between two things. Yeah. If you start trying to pack that one up, it seems like as soon as you attack detached it from the second side, right? The web would fall, and then you'd have to go up.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he was what when he when he um when the last strand she, maybe she, yeah, maybe she when the spider, when the spider, um, when the last strand disappeared, the spider was on the tree. The spider? Yeah, that's from that's from the movie. Um, I can't remember the movie. It was a movie with um Will Farrell played the bad guy, and Brad Pitt played the good guy, and Will Farrell said spider. So that's how we say spider now in our family.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

You know what also we said? Also, we have vocabulary that is based on my daughter Sadie's the way she used to talk as a kid. Oh, that's cute. She couldn't say her Rs. So a car was a cow, a cow. Um, but she used to say things that we still say, like, um, if if if you're gonna take, she would say, Dad, don't she would say, Dad, take the shortcut. You're taking the long cut.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We call it a long cut. Yeah. Um, there's there's a whole bunch of my my wife's got them written down. Um, but yeah, Spiider came from that Will Farrell. It's an animated movie.

SPEAKER_01

So, but the last row, like how how do you get rid of like how do you take off that and but here's the thing you just watched it.

SPEAKER_02

I know, I just watched it. And and remember I said, Oh, now there's one strand, and then there was no strand. It didn't.

SPEAKER_01

How do you go from one strand to no strand, though, unless you're levitating as you go? He was like magic.

SPEAKER_02

He was on the tree at that time. He was walking, he folded it up in the middle of the web. Then he walked down the strand to one of the one side of the web, which was on one of the trees, right? So he folded it up in the middle. He walked down this the thread to the one tree to the left. And as soon as he hit the one tree on the left, and I was watching the one strand, it like vanished. I didn't see it like float away, or him like cut it with his pair of scissors, and then it kind of it just disappeared into nothing. He's a magic spider. You know, it's funny. I didn't think we were gonna have anything to talk about because I'm I really woke up. Well, just because I just woke up and my brain's not on, I haven't had any coffee, and I walked out here, and then the this the magical spider was putting on a show.

SPEAKER_00

That's nice, yeah. That's really nice.

SPEAKER_02

And and it took up the whole time. So I hope you didn't have anything to say. I hope you don't have anything to say. Well, I think we should probably wrap it up. Yeah. Here's here's the wrap up nature is amazing, and sometimes, yeah, and and sometimes when I think like all is lost, you just look at an ant. Yeah, yeah. Uh huh. That's it. That's that's my wrap up.
