SPEAKER_01Hey man, I didn't know if I if we were even I didn't even know if you were gonna call me on a holiday, but I've been thinking, I've been thinking about you. I said, well, if you don't call me, I'm gonna call him.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's it's you know, it's a big day. I'm I'm just waiting for my buddy Joel. He's gonna pick me up. I'm gonna go down and help set up for the parade.
SPEAKER_01The OHI Parade?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The OHI Parade, which is got like 10 people put their chairs out, people put their chairs out for the OHI parade about a month ahead of time. Yeah. Yeah I noticed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's pretty crazy.
SPEAKER_02Finally happening, huh? Yeah. We're gonna go set up some more chairs on the stage.
SPEAKER_01Oh, there's a stage?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's a stage.
SPEAKER_01What's happening? Are people singing and stuff?
SPEAKER_02I think they judge playing?
SPEAKER_01They judge the floats and stuff. Uh, but not you.
SPEAKER_02You're just the setup guy? I'm just the setup guy.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, that's cool. Me and Joel. Or my Joel, my friend Joel and I. Yeah. We should we should say real English. Are you gonna um are we making coffee right now?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02You bought some spiders? Here he is. Hang on. He's there? I'm just he's getting ready. Hang on. Oh, it's getting loud. Big diesel truck. Hey Joel. Oh, hang on. Let me just I'm just getting in. Okay. This is Satchel. Say hi, Joel.
SPEAKER_00Hey, hi. Hi, Satchel.
SPEAKER_02Hi, hi. This is um this is SS88. We're we're we're talking about doing a podcast someday.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02And this is a podcast about that podcast. It's not really a podcast. It's a it's a warm-up. What is it, Satch?
SPEAKER_01It's a podcast about a podcast. It's a podcast. It's a real podcast.
SPEAKER_02It's it's SS88 and it's Satchel Satchel and Steve or Steve and Satchel, I guess.
unknownWhat's the 88 part?
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna explain that. It's Satchel and Steve for eight minutes at 8 a.m. Pacific time.
SPEAKER_01Pacific time.
SPEAKER_02Pacific time. Is it live? Because usually like No, we're recording. No, it's not live. We just record and then we post. But 8 a.m. is like when you do it. 8 a.m. ish. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_018 a.m. for eight minutes. It must be 8 a.m. there now, right?
SPEAKER_02It's 8 a.m. Yeah, it's it's it's 8 a.m. now, and we're going to set up for the 4th of July parade.
SPEAKER_01Y'all gotta start early.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, uh, we're not. Uh we've been going for a couple hours at least. Yeah, he's been he's been up. They've been working.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you're getting the late pickup. 8 o'clock's the late pickup.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he they started, they started last night.
SPEAKER_01So he must make a lot of money for doing this.
SPEAKER_02Oh, big money, big money. Yeah, for this all volunteer organization, right?
SPEAKER_01Big money.
SPEAKER_02You know, all volunteers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And is and it and is Paul a of judge?
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh. Joel. Joel.
SPEAKER_01Joel.
SPEAKER_02No, Joel is not a judge. I'm a video maker like Steve. Yeah, Joel, Joel does art like you. He's an artist.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01He said he's a video maker.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Is he gonna make a video of the parade?
SPEAKER_00No. I'm gonna set up the stage. I'm gonna we're gonna set up the stage for the judges uh and stuff like that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And how many how many floats are there for them to judge?
SPEAKER_00Uh well, there'll be there's about 78 entries. Oh. But they weren't really be there aren't really any floats almost at all. It's just like dumb people like advertising their bank or their church.
SPEAKER_02Well, oh, or like cool, well, there's lots of like horses.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's horses. There's probably like three horror, three or four horse groups. Yeah. Um there'll be a couple neat floats where people have done something for the community, you know? Yeah. Because there's like the kind of float that's just an advertisement that you're just like, look at me, I'm not really here for you. Then there's a few where people made something interesting for people who are watching. Yeah. Actually do something watching. So that's I like it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's the kind I like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's the kind we all like.
SPEAKER_01But it takes time, like it takes time and money and people envisioned.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, there's ways, you know, there's ways you can be efficient, but yeah, generally it's a lot of work. And that's you know you're making art or you're making something for as a gift, you know. You know, that's what it that's what it takes.
SPEAKER_01Or you could just make something really cool that advertises something local, you know, because then you get the best of both worlds. Like, you know, if I had a pizza place there, I would say, oh, let me let me give you guys a couple thousand dollars to make a cool float and then put our name on it, you know.
SPEAKER_00That would be a really good yeah, it'd be a good thing. And and um You'd love his pizza place. Oh, I like I like pizza.
SPEAKER_02He has pizza place. His pizza place is is a work of art itself. Wow. Like, like the whole thing. Do you still have the tower of jungle or the the fountain of jungle, the mountain of jungle? I mean the mountain of trash.
SPEAKER_01It's called the oh, you're I know what you're talking about. You're not talking about the fountain.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the fountain.
SPEAKER_01Well, we have the fountain of junk, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, I tell you, if you're gonna make some establishment and people are gonna come there, might as well make it an interesting place to be, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, that way people come for the atmosphere as well as the food. You know, you know, you're trying to make it uh you you want to make it a good place for people to work, a good place for people to things for people to see, a place for artists to gather. We do live music every night. We have a rotating artist in the dining room. So you you get a lot of local art, you know, which is always what make helps to build community.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, it sure does.
SPEAKER_02That's a really cool thing. Nice move. And his, yeah, he's got like, do you still have the van there?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So the van he got married in.
SPEAKER_01Um, I didn't get married in the van.
SPEAKER_02Well, no, I mean you got you you you got married.
SPEAKER_01We drove the van away after we got married.
SPEAKER_02So they've gutted it and put it like dining experience in there. So and that's sitting right out front. You can sit in the fan and eat. Whoa. Yeah, that's so fun. Oh, the whole thing's cool. You gotta check it out. You would dig it. And then you've and you've done every inch of the outside of the the um in tile. Like he's tiled the whole thing, the whole restaurant. Wow.
SPEAKER_01Mosaic. But it's but it's not finished yet. It's it's uh it's got another couple years to finish mosaicing. But I I I yeah, I I do have a kiln full of tiles I'm about to pull out today, and then I got a you know, another 20 square feet I can go do.
SPEAKER_00Wow, you're not gonna get bored.
SPEAKER_01No, no, that's the whole idea. It's like keep it, keep it going. Uh performance art always. But I'm thinking today, like I'm I'm really d I'm really today, I'm I'm struggling. I'm like, I I wanna, I'm thinking I might grab my grill and go up there and make hot dogs for the staff today, like in the parking lot, just cook hot dogs. And that would be kind of and then everybody customers say, Oh, what you know, I want a hot dog, and like, well, when it's not for you. But you know, but you're grilling in the parking lot because it's 4th of July. So then the staff gets to eat the hot dogs, and then the people that customers get to eat pizza. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think you should do that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I should do that. That's right. I gotta just throw the grill in the truck and and then some and some uh coals because it's easy enough, you know.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And it's and it just it makes because they they uh actually the the general manager I said, hey, maybe get some barbecue for everybody there or something. He's like, Oh, we already got hot dogs, we're having hot dogs, but they're just gonna put the hot dogs in the pizza oven, you know. And that's fine.
SPEAKER_02Outside with with a hat, like a with a red, white, and blue hat. And it's America.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's not a bad idea.
SPEAKER_02Okay, wrap it up.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good to good to be here. I love it. Good for America.
