This week on Makers Make it Made, we sit down with LY (Lyanna), a Scarborough creative who's built a career by following her curiosity instead of waiting for permission.

From launching Maadcavelli, to teaching herself how to DJ as one half of MAADCASSO, to creating Certified Lover Girl, and now stepping into music with her debut single "GG's," LY has never been afraid to start before she's ready.

We talk about betting on yourself, learning by doing, building everything from the ground up, quitting your job to chase your dream, trusting God's timing, and why community will always matter more than clout.

If you've ever been waiting for the "right time" to start something, this episode is your reminder that sometimes the only thing left to do is take the chance.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, what's going on? Another episode of Makers Make It Made. Um today's gonna be awesome. Um we have a guest that is I don't know, it's a multifaceted art artist and she makes everything look really easy, like just effortless, and I like I rate it so heavy. Everything she does is like high quality, super banger, um lit like literally uh DJ, uh uh clothing, like got a friends and family like clothing company brand and an artist now. Okay, welcome, Liana man!

unknown

Woo!

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. Soundboard?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we got a soundboard. Yeah, that's right, right?

SPEAKER_02

Hello, how are you guys? I'm good. I'm so happy to be on the show. Thank you for having me. Yeah, a long time coming. First interview ever.

SPEAKER_00

Ever, ever. I mean, you've had jobs, so you you've been interviewed before.

SPEAKER_02

But like, me at the state that I am right now, like as an artist, is everything that I am.

SPEAKER_00

So it's pretty big. It's pretty big. It's pretty big. I mean, I can't wait for people to like find this in like two years and be like, whoa, bro, that's like the first interview. And then you'll have like complex by that time, and you'll have Apple Music podcasts, like you'll probably be on like selection at some point.

SPEAKER_02

God willing, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, god willing, god willing. Yes, sir. Um, oh my gosh, thanks for being on the show. I'm like super hyped. I'm a fan. I'm a fan. No, no, I am actually a fan.

SPEAKER_02

I'm a fan of you.

SPEAKER_00

No, no. We can't this is about you though. This is about you though. I appreciate it. So let's start with just telling people a little bit about who you are. Like 30 seconds of like, you know, let them get a vibe check on you.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Well, my name is Lee. I'm from Scarborough. Big up Star Scarborough. Big up. Best place in the world, in my opinion. Literally. Yeah, yeah. Literally. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, I'm Filipino Jamaican, um, born and raised in Toronto. Love literally everything that has to do with art. Love making music, made music since I was in high school, been around music, love creating stuff. I made short films, I did clothing, and literally everything that you can think of in terms of like anything creative, but yeah, that's just me. I'm just a creative person. I love things. You love making things. You're a creator.

SPEAKER_00

Literally, you're a creator. Um I think uh you know, someone asked me this earlier today, and I'm I'm just gonna ask it right off this the top. Do you think you're living your dream right now? Ooh, honestly, yeah. Yeah, yeah, right? Yeah, yo, I literally was like, yeah, I think I am. Because I think uh, and I'm not gonna speak for you, but I feel like you're in a place where you're like you're making all the things and seeing the things you want to do uh in your lifetime, like right now. And I feel like you're not stunted by I can't, it's more so it will happen when. Literally, you know, and so you just gotta like stick to the process, stick to all that. And I'm I'm super proud of you. And then so anyway, we have a lot to get through. We got like 30 minutes left. Um, let's talk about the brand. Let's start with the brand because um I think you were one of few. Like it's it's a trend to have like the cutoff shorts. But when you dropped that, I was like, damn. And like you do this, no, no disrespect. I'm sorry if you're not on her close friends, but it's like you put that you put that on her close friends, and you go, yo, if anyone and any friends and family want that, you can get it. Literally fair prices, too. I actually really appreciate that. Hey man, I hope you're I hope you're making bare money off of that, you know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? I'm crying, bro. So tell me about the brand because I I it kind of like for me, it came out of nowhere, and I was so surprised.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, it did come out of nowhere, honestly. Yeah, um, but yeah, frick. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

One day what's the is the brand name named after you though?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Lee.

SPEAKER_00

So it's it's just it's just Lee.

SPEAKER_02

It's Lee, but like once once Max B got out of jail, I named it Mad Cavelli. Because I don't know, it's just it's just teasy. I like it.

SPEAKER_00

It does sound like money.

SPEAKER_02

It sounds like money.

SPEAKER_00

It does sound like money.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but yeah, like the whole brand, like for now, um, I did want to go public with it, but definitely it's just friends and family for now and I just love like just the fam, just rocking it. It's fire.

SPEAKER_00

I I feel like when you release things like that, you get to test a market. That's like a safe, it's like a safe test, right? You're like, oh, okay, I know this hits, I know this doesn't really hit, but you don't have to like shoot yourself in the foot on like over-ordering or trying to impress anyone because you're like, you know what? I'm just playing. Like this is a playground for you. Yeah, and like that's why I love the brand. And like you're not even really even doing like marketing yet. Your marketing is like you wearing it. Yeah, you put it in on people that are fly, and then people just wear and then go, yo. Like my trainer would literally was like, yo, I want those. And I showed you, and you're like, sorry. Yeah, you're like, yo, I only have the the the the black and uh yellow ones, and I was like, yo, but he wants the grays.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I only have the black and yellows.

SPEAKER_00

And you sold out of those, those, those pants, like a couple times. Yeah. I missed the first run, and I was actually pressed.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally, like I never I don't even like order bulk anymore. It's just like if someone wants it, yeah, I'll just get it for them.

SPEAKER_00

That's real.

SPEAKER_02

And they'll wait like two weeks and then they'll get it.

SPEAKER_00

That's real, that's real, that's real. I like that.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do you do you have a team that helps you with the brand, or is it just you? It's just me. So you're doing the the graphic design, you're finding the manufacturer, and you are fulfilling the orders. Yep. Holy smokes, man. You make it look way too easy.

SPEAKER_02

Hey man, when you want to get stuff done, like I just get stuff done. Like, that's the type of person I am.

SPEAKER_00

You hear that? Yeah. I I love that. You know, it's funny because and and and it is a privilege to be uh feeling comfortable and have the privilege to have a sound mind um and the the um how do I say the the confidence to want to do things. But once I feel like you step over that line and you have the confidence to do things, it's like, yeah, why not just try? Literally, and half the battle is just trying.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

And I feel like you can tell, and that's why it seems easy. I don't I don't think everything you do is easy. It's yeah, it's not, but it's not. But then I want to know because I feel like this is how I know you as a DJ. How did you transition from, you know, where are you from again? Saga? Where are you from? Oh, Scarborough, sorry, I knew that.

SPEAKER_03

Saga.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my bad, my bad. Sorry. Yeah, you said that, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You said that. Um Scarborough, like, where how did a kid from Scarborough get into DJ?

SPEAKER_02

Man, frick. It all started like it was just me and Key.

SPEAKER_00

You know, Key. I love Key. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Key's my sister, that's like my twin.

SPEAKER_00

And you guys are a duo.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So Mad Castle, Mad Castle really started um because me and Key met at Foot Locker in 2021. Shout out, Key, for real. Um, 2021 met at Foo Locker, started working. Um, then 2022 hit, so like everything started to like open up because of like COVID and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, hold on. I just want to say, I feel like most creatives from Scarborough had like a full face I worked at Foot Locker face.

SPEAKER_02

No, low-key, but low-key though. That's so funny. Who else do you know?

SPEAKER_00

I know a couple of people take it off the pod, but you're just okay, okay, okay. I'm not captive.

SPEAKER_02

That's hilarious, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because some people don't want to be like, yeah, I used to suck shoes. The uniform was hard. I still have mine.

SPEAKER_02

You worked at Foot Locker.

SPEAKER_00

I did, but I'm a Brampton guy. Yo, it's a good thing, though. Oh, what are you saying, bro? What are you saying about that? I'm a Brampton man, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Hey man, respect.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, you're right. She doesn't want to get canceled. It's too early in the career.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Like the highest pitch. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so we're saying everything's opening up.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, everything's opened up in 2022. Yeah. So summer's just like everyone's outside now because like COVID's done.

SPEAKER_00

And were you practicing during COVID? Like the DJing?

SPEAKER_02

We didn't start, we didn't even start DJing yet.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. This is this is where it gets interesting.

SPEAKER_02

So 2022, we go to this party. I think it was after like a shooting stars game. We're like, what do we do?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I've never been outside before. This is gonna be my first party I've ever been to. Key's never been outside before. What? Right. So we go to Rose's. You remember Rose's patio?

SPEAKER_00

Nah, I don't know. I don't remember it. Where's where's that?

SPEAKER_02

It's on Queen Street. It used to be like a day party spot.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

But I remember I think it was Xandro's and Sid was spinning.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And then what's it called? We came, we pull up, we're like, oh my gosh, it's like a different world. We heard them spinning. We're just like, bro, what if we actually just started DJing? Like we both love music, like, why not?

SPEAKER_00

That was it. That was it. That was the moment.

SPEAKER_02

Next day we went to Longa McQuaid, got a rental for the little DDG, DDJ, like Rev4. No, no, no, not C DJ. No, no money for that. Yeah, right. But a little controller, and then we just literally taught ourselves.

SPEAKER_00

And at that time, like, how were you guys getting the music? Because I feel like being a a DJ, it's so hard now that we're in like the streaming era to get like downloads of music. Like, are you ripping them off of YouTube? Like, how are you getting the music? Like, how are you making your crates?

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, like, because we started um on laptops, we had to do like through Serato and stuff like that. So we just like looked up tutorials on how to download music. We got a lot of edits from SoundCloud. SoundCloud.

SPEAKER_00

SoundCloud has them. Yeah, yeah, I know that for sure.

SPEAKER_02

There's some edits that people play to this day that we used to play back then. It's just like, man, good old days. What a time. What a time. What a time. Yeah. To be alive. To be alive. For real. But yeah, that was just that was the beginning of everything. And everything ever since then.

SPEAKER_00

And then so what was the first party or thing you spat that you spun at that you were like, okay, I can do this.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So I think it was still in the summer. It was like a couple weeks after we taught ourselves how to DJ.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Our homegirl Marge, so I don't Marge, she was supposed to be here today. I don't know Marge. But um Marge was like, okay, I'm having a little kickback. Do you guys want to DJ for it? I'm like, hey man, sure. It's gonna be our first little gig. There's gonna be hella friends there. So we're just like, you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's a safe place. It's a safe place. You know what? I'm starting to understand your blueprint. Really? And I think I think I'm gonna I'm gonna expose it at the end of this. It's a good thing, though. Okay, okay, okay. I'm gonna talk about it now, but it's like if you want to start something, you want to start anything, start practicing first. Yes. And then start around friends and family.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

You know, expose it to the people that will tell you if it's bad, but they also won't lie if it's good.

SPEAKER_02

Facts.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, keep going.

SPEAKER_02

Literally. Oh, that that's good. That's really good.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, keep going. Yeah, let's like that. I like that.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but what's it called? So yeah, we just agreed, and then what's it called? We got to Marge's house. All the people pulled up, we got a little controller still, and we just started DJing. We recorded it too.

SPEAKER_00

On like on your iPhone?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we recorded on our iPhone, but then we synced it with the laptop, so the laptop was recording us spinning.

SPEAKER_00

Whoa. You guys already knew how to do that?

SPEAKER_02

That that sounds like some technical we had to like we wanted to record our stuff so we can hear it back so we can learn and like learn from our mistakes basically because we were still learning. And then at the end of the party, I think it was the day after, I got all the footage, I got all the audio from my laptop and I edited like some videos and I posted on Instagram, and then some guy uh reached out to us to say, like, oh, do you guys want to spin at my new c my new bar that I'm opening?

SPEAKER_00

Really? Yeah, okay, and then that was our first gig. And then it was like, Okay, you're gonna get paid for this. Yeah, right. And like what what was the first time? Like, what was the number you gave the first person? Like, what you were gonna do?

SPEAKER_02

I don't even think we gave them, I think he gave us a number.

SPEAKER_00

But he's just like, yo, yeah, well, how much was it though? Do you remember? Was it like a bill 50? Was it like two bills, three?

SPEAKER_02

Two bills.

SPEAKER_00

Two bills is not bad for a first time, though.

SPEAKER_02

For a first time, it was cash too. Day, like night up. Straight cash.

SPEAKER_00

Straight cash, night up, two browns or or or four reds.

SPEAKER_02

I think it was bear twenties. Bear green, yeah. I don't even know.

SPEAKER_00

With like four blue ones or something like that? I hate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Straight from the cash register. That's real though. I I I I rate people who pay at the end of the day. Yeah. I actually super rate that.

SPEAKER_02

And it was funny because like one of our friends bought a bottle too, so I think that's what contributed to like the period.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so you guys as a duo have a party and it's called Certified Lover Girl. Is that a thing? That's a thing, right?

SPEAKER_02

There's one tonight.

SPEAKER_00

There's one tonight. You know where it's at, you know what I'm saying? Tonight. We got where is it at?

SPEAKER_02

It's at Ultraviolet.

SPEAKER_00

We we live at Ultraviolet. You know where to find us at, you know.

SPEAKER_02

That's hype.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, this podcast is gonna be out in like two weeks, so I'm sorry. Yeah, but anyway, if you guys were there, you you're part you're part of the history. There we go. You're part of history. There we go. Okay, so now, you know, in your DJ career, like I think what I what I like about your process is that I think you're kind of putting yourself in a place where everything is complementary to the next thing. Every art style that you're doing is gonna help you in the future. So it's like let's roll this into the the artistry. And how does uh your knowledge of of of DJing how's it changed you making music? So and how did you get into that too? Obviously, but uh yeah, let's go with how do you got into music and and then how DJs influenced the way you make music.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So I've been singing since I was a kid. Like I sang in the church when I was a kid. Um karaokes, you know, Filipinos.

SPEAKER_01

Love to sing.

SPEAKER_02

Have to sing.

SPEAKER_01

Shout out my girlfriend, she's Filipino.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out, shout out, Paul.

SPEAKER_01

Shout out to the Pinois, Pinnais, yeah, shout out to Philippines, anyways.

SPEAKER_02

So that it's killing me. Anyways, so yeah, I've been singing like literally my whole life. Okay. Um, fast forward to like high school, that's when I picked up like Garage Band, and I think I saw this one YouTube video with Steve Lacey.

SPEAKER_00

Um I watched that same video. I love it. It's inspiring. Yo, I've watched it a couple of times in my time of being like a creative. And I'm like, there's no excuses.

SPEAKER_02

No, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

There's no excuse. There's no excuse. And I feel like you're either a certain type or a certain type of creator, you know what I'm saying? And there's no disrespect, there's no right way of doing that. I think the only right way of doing any creative is just making it.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. Just do it.

SPEAKER_00

But there's certain people that just jump in head first and they say, I'm gonna see what happens. I hope I don't break my neck. Yeah, nine times out of ten, like you don't. You don't, you don't, and if it's bad these days, what yo, these days, if it's bad, no one's even watching.

SPEAKER_02

No one, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So unless you're hurting someone's feelings or being a jackass, like no one's gonna know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just don't be a dickhead, just do what you do.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, also don't embarrass yourself though. You we there's a line where you know what you're doing.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

You know what you're doing, like you know what you did with that one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, oh I don't know why they said no. You know, yeah, you knew you knew.

SPEAKER_00

You have friends, bro. If you don't have friends that will like stop you from doing silly things, like just pack it up, right? Pack it up.

SPEAKER_02

Fries in the bag. Sorry, prize in the bag, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay, so the music. Yes, you've been singing your whole life, singing my whole life, and then how did we get you in the studio then? How did that happen? Holy or how did we get you on Garage Band proper? Like you were like, okay, I'm making, I'm tracking vocals, um, I'm cutting rough songs, demos.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally, yeah. From that video, um, I was like, again, no excuses. Let me just try it out. I know I have a voice, I know I love music, let me just make some stuff. I still have some files from till this day.

SPEAKER_00

Do you think do you re revisit them? Like, like, do you revisit them thinking I'm gonna work on them, or do you revisit them thinking that's the that's we're we're done here? I'm gonna keep them for me, or do you revisit them like yo, I'm just gonna get them mixed, and like maybe it's gonna come out eventually one day.

SPEAKER_02

Low key, like, yeah, because a couple of weeks ago I revisited them and I was like, damn, like some of these are actually and now like because I've um pro progressed in like my knowledge, and now I'm moved on to like logic pro. I'm not on a garage band anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Real.

SPEAKER_02

So I can just do more to it. It's freaking fire.

SPEAKER_00

It's so fire.

SPEAKER_02

But the voice, it's funny to see like your voice kind of changes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Cause like when someone's like, Can you record it? You're like, Yeah, I can't. I actually I can't. Like, I was just at a different time, a different feeling, exactly, different story, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Oh that especially as like a teenager. Like, what the heck was I talking about? Like, what was I what was I singing about stuff back then? I'm like, oh kind of cringe, but yeah, literally started um producing and then so you also produce, yes. Oh wow, like on my project, I have a like a couple that I produce myself.

SPEAKER_00

You're you're a one one one one band girl.

SPEAKER_02

Again, I love doing stuff.

SPEAKER_00

You're not just a girl.

SPEAKER_02

I just love doing stuff, man. I love doing stuff, and yeah, at the time, I think first produced something in like grade nine. And then I had a I have a friend, still my one of my close friends, Dylan, Dylan Sinclair.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Dylan Sinclair. We love him over here. We love it. We gotta get him on the show. We gotta get you on the show. Yo, the man's on tour, no?

SPEAKER_02

No, he he just finished, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He just finished, but he dropped the single just the other day. Yeah, but it's not about him, though. This is not about him.

SPEAKER_02

No, but www. www. www.dylwin. And he's Filipino too.

SPEAKER_00

He is, he is, he's very though. We know that.

SPEAKER_02

He's fired. Anyways, um, yeah, we I think we started to become friends in grade nine.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um didn't go to the same high school, but I met him through like high school, you know, the system. But he wanted, he was we kept on talking about being like singers, and he pursued it very well.

SPEAKER_00

Real. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I just didn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But I always had it in the back of my mind, like, I love singing music. Yeah. In some way. So yeah, throughout high school, didn't do nothing. Just kept on producing. Graduated, went to school, graduated school. Gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Real.

SPEAKER_02

Literally. Did it for my mom though. I did I did university for my mom.

SPEAKER_00

That's real.

SPEAKER_02

What do you do in university? I did marketing.

SPEAKER_00

Uh where?

SPEAKER_02

At York. Okay. Yeah. Shout out York.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out York.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out, and not shout out York.

SPEAKER_00

Not a few. You know what? Just a moment of silence, you know?

SPEAKER_02

You're right, though. That's so real.

SPEAKER_00

Just lie, just lie. You know, good times, bad times, you know, it's just life. You you moved through it, you grew through it, and you're here today. You wouldn't be you without York.

SPEAKER_02

Fah. You're right. You're right, you're right, you're right. It's real. You're real, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's real.

SPEAKER_02

Rick.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so so now we are making music though. Yes. Because like you guys, you sent me some tracks.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Send me some unreleased tracks. You know it's real when you get the link and it doesn't say Spotify on it. It says untitled. You're like, ooh, ooh, I got a gem.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so GG's.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

GG's.

SPEAKER_02

Gigi's.

SPEAKER_00

Great song.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

The production is really cool and it reminds you of like a sample from like a Leah or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh. I got like Aaliyah a lot.

SPEAKER_00

It's giving me no, I don't think your voice necessarily, but it's just like the vibe. The vibe is like very that for me. Um subject matter very that for me. You know what I'm saying? So can you break down the song a little bit and talk about it?

SPEAKER_02

GG's.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Is it is it good game though? Yeah, like good game. Like, yeah, GG's. I just want to make sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

When people say this is GG's, yeah, GG's.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's over. Whatever, man. It's done though.

SPEAKER_02

It's done.

SPEAKER_00

You're saying it's done on the track. Yeah, all right.

SPEAKER_02

That's uh the world's yours. The world is yours. Anyways, but yeah, GG's first song I ever recorded in a studio.

SPEAKER_01

Oh wow, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally off off the off the um I quit my job, my day job in February.

SPEAKER_00

Congratulations, yo.

SPEAKER_02

This year, literally, quit my day job to follow my dreams, okay?

SPEAKER_00

Yo, all you guys listening, man, follow your dreams, man. Hey, man. Don't necessarily quit your job yet, but like if you can and you have the privilege to throw that shit out the door, man. Exactly. I need my job. So if you're watching me from my job, like I do have a job.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, probably.

SPEAKER_00

Don't fire me yet. Please. Let me get some more loot days.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Period.

SPEAKER_00

As you were saying.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but yeah, literally just took a chance on myself because people look for people to take chances on them, but hey man, you gotta take a chance of yourself sometimes. Literally, my whole life is a testimony of taking the chance of yourself.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

On myself.

SPEAKER_00

And it's it's working so far.

SPEAKER_02

Thank God.

SPEAKER_00

It looks good and it looks effortless. This is what I'm saying. Like, even you saying you're like, you're like, I just quit my job. Like, you know, most people are like making us, you know, I quit my job. I went to York, I just did this. I did it for my mom.

SPEAKER_02

I'm dead.

SPEAKER_00

I rate it, and I and I hope that's something that you don't lose working in this industry. Like, I hope that's something that stays pure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, to you.

SPEAKER_02

It's gone. Well, I've gone through a lot of prayer, so this is all this is not even me. Like, this is just God working. This is Him directing everything. So I'm just trying.

SPEAKER_00

Your trust in the process. No, literally. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But uh yeah, GG's was the first thing I've ever recorded in the studio.

SPEAKER_00

And did you come into the studio? With like a rough melody or like knowing it. So you did. You came in there and you're like, I kind of know what I want to do.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Let's just do it. And like, were you like one take Drake in it? Or like were you like, were you like, okay, I'm doubling it. Also, who's the engineer? Like, this is is this your first time having an engineer and like someone's also pressing record for you?

SPEAKER_02

It was a homie.

SPEAKER_00

All right, big homie.

SPEAKER_02

It was a homie Bryce. Shout out. Bamped. His name is Bamped. Just got signed to Sony.

SPEAKER_00

He's an artist too, right? Yeah. I've seen his videos. You're fi. You're fine. He's crazy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He just got signed to Sony. Shout out him.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out him. Congratulations, bro. That's actually love and light, man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, man. And he took a chance on me too. He was the one who encouraged me to get to the studio. He's like, what are you doing? Because all my close friends, I'll be posting some stuff about me making music. He's like, bro, just come to the studio and we'll deal with it after.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, Real? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Fine, I'll take a chance. And yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Guys, here's another nugget.

SPEAKER_02

Take the chance. Take the chance. Take the chance. Please.

SPEAKER_00

Please.

SPEAKER_02

Please.

SPEAKER_00

Take the chance, not the rapper.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah. Shout out chance the rapper, though.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out him though. Shout out him though. I hope you're not going to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_02

You'll be clowning him, but I'm like, bro.

SPEAKER_00

He's a guy. He's a guy, bro. He made the threes popular. Let's be popular. The three. Like the number three. Let's be real. Huge, huge, huge. But this is not about him. Sorry.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get so. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So you're in that you're in the studio, you cut the record.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And now. Okay, first of all, you left the studio that night. How did you feel? Like, were you were did you leave being like, oh, we got one?

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, for sure. Like. Like bamed. Right?

SPEAKER_02

Bamped.

SPEAKER_00

Did he was he like, oh, we got one?

SPEAKER_02

Like, not not even finished the song. Not like recorded the first verse.

SPEAKER_00

He was like smashed the the the the space bar. I swear. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He's like, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Bro, we got one.

SPEAKER_02

Like, where have you been? Real. Type B. Like.

SPEAKER_00

Time and place, huh? Patience is a virtual.

SPEAKER_02

I swear. I swear. God's timing is crazy too. Because I was like, quit my jaw. I was like, I'm not even gonna stress, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just let's just do it. Boom.

SPEAKER_00

I love that.

SPEAKER_02

Crazy night. That was a crazy night. We had it on camera too.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so that's gonna come out later. Like the demos, the documentary on a star. On some coody type. On the star.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I rate that, man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, man.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so you cut this record. Um, you have the other track is Wait for You, right?

SPEAKER_02

Wait for Wait For Me. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Wait for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can you tell us about that track?

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, Wait for Me is Fire. That's such a I did that track using um a sample by Kofo and Drew, ADHD. Shout out them, goats. Shout out them. They were just on the uh the recent Chris Brown album, which is insane.

SPEAKER_03

Congrats.

SPEAKER_02

But shout out them. Um, but yeah, we used that sample, just added my vocals on it, and I just read it. I wrote it about my life, basically. Yeah, it was a beautiful. I love that song.

SPEAKER_00

I love how you just everything's so easy. It was beautiful. We just we just we just did it.

SPEAKER_02

I loved it.

SPEAKER_00

And now you're moving on, you know, showing the world now it's not just your friends and family. Now you're about to show the world that you're an artist and like this is your your moment, right? Yeah, so this Sunday you were shooting a music video. How much can you tell me about that music video and like the team that you work with? Because I feel like the team you work with was insane, like like triple platinum.

SPEAKER_02

Crazy, yeah. Like what is crazy is that shout out Keon. Keon's my good good friend from like two years ago. He's the one who directed it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but yeah, he's based in Miami. He's Stephon Diggs's personal videographer, which is like my bad.

SPEAKER_00

Big, my bad, big boy Keon.

SPEAKER_02

All right, my bad.

SPEAKER_00

He's a big dog. He's a big guy, he's like he's a guy's guy.

SPEAKER_02

He's a guy's guy, but geyserini.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, guys are in. He's guy and ease. Type okay, I got you, I got you.

SPEAKER_02

Guys, he's serious, but um, yeah, I was like, let me just send my music to my friends and fam, because I'm like, I only share it to them. Yeah, so I shared Gigi's and Wait for Me. Kid You Nar right after I sent him Wait for me, he's like, I need to shoot this video. Really? I'm not gonna lie, need to shoot this video.

SPEAKER_00

I love that.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, oh, period, and he took it on as a passion project.

SPEAKER_00

Really?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally brought the whole team. We got the freaking like steady cam guy that did the Iceman videos. Really? Yes, wow, that's literally my face. Literally my face.

SPEAKER_00

Iceman, May 15th. I'm like, May 15th, bye back. On the set right now, that's insane. Literally, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_02

So, yeah, it was just crazy. I was surrounded by so much love, so much fan friends and family. Like, it was uh we didn't even expect it to be that big of a production.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But it was just nuts.

SPEAKER_00

If you in the in the words of uh Taylor Patterson, the man who was on one way past podcast, if if you build it, they'll come. Damn. You know what I mean? If you build it, you just gotta build it, man. No, literally, build it or make it, literally, you know what I'm saying? You're a real honorary, like makers make it made. Hey man, you know, you're you're a guy. You're actually a super guy.

SPEAKER_02

I appreciate it, man. I'm just trying on.

SPEAKER_00

You're inspiring, and I and I'm sure you're inspiring a lot of people on this show. So we got like seven, eight minutes. What? I know I told you.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, you're right, bro. This is so short.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, we will always have a part two. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Leave people with more to, you know. So you said you had some hot takes. You came in here and you said some crazy. You said mustard is better than ketchup.

SPEAKER_02

It's a better condiment. It's just more like you can do so much with mustard. Mustard has so many variations. Like there's honey mustard.

SPEAKER_00

Mitch, why are you why are you smiling off of your honesty? He knows I'm right. Just got the cameraman. I got the cameraman laughing over there. What are you what are you doing, bro?

SPEAKER_02

There's only one ketchup. I was about to get cut, bro. Sorry. Well, there is banana.

SPEAKER_00

What's your next hot take, man?

SPEAKER_02

Um, okay, hold on.

SPEAKER_00

You get you get two or three. You gotta have some good ones.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, let me think. Let me think. I like these.

SPEAKER_00

Oh no.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, prick. I don't have the most. Oh, now you're nervous.

SPEAKER_00

Now you're nervous. I'm not nervous.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just thinking because I have a lot.

SPEAKER_00

I just need one or two or three.

SPEAKER_02

I I can't think of it right now. I'm not gonna do that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean DJ hot takes. Oh, you know what we'll do? We'll do a hot a hot take for each of your disciplines.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, yeah, I like that. I like that. Okay, so let me get a clothing hot take.

SPEAKER_02

Clothing hot take.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um I have one.

SPEAKER_00

I have one though.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, you go you go first.

SPEAKER_00

It's these days, I hope I don't get canceled for this. You know what? You might as well take a chance.

SPEAKER_03

Take a chance. Take a chance. Take a chance.

SPEAKER_00

Um it's not enough to just be cool and own an owner clothing brand now. Like, I don't want a clothing brand that just exists to be cool. Have something behind it. If I ask you what what what is your thing about, and you have no answer other than yo, it's just sick. Like it you can like make it clothes, but like come on, build a world. That's my that's my thing, though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's like brands with no personality.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like who are you who do you speak for? Facts. Where's your voice? Facts. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I like I like that one. That's not a hot take, that's just facts.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, it's just facts.

SPEAKER_02

Oh frick. What is my clothing hot take? Um, oh my gosh. I don't think this is a hot take. This is just facts, but like getting an influencer or just like someone that has no relation to your brand in terms of like the personality, just because they have clout. Well are you den, bro? That's facts. That's not even a hot take, that's facts. What are you dean, bro?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, uh uh a music hot take.

SPEAKER_02

Music hot take.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Murp. I feel like this one's tough.

SPEAKER_00

You might offend a lot of people.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not gonna say you know what I'm just gonna say. I feel like people that make it out of Toronto should really like give spotlight to where they came from. Really? I'm not gonna lie. I think that's a fact, though. That's a fact. That's not a hot take. That's offending, that's offend you, that's offend you.

SPEAKER_00

That's just a fact. Yeah, that's a fact.

SPEAKER_02

Because I've just been seeing it a lot, and it's just like, damn, bruh, y'all just be forgetting, or I've met people who just don't want to even be known that they're from Toronto.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I think that's crazy.

SPEAKER_02

That's very crazy in my opinion.

SPEAKER_00

And then a DJ hot take, because I feel like you have a couple of those.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like a lot of DJs have DJ hot takes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I feel like, of course. You guys are the most of many other disciplines, but you guys are way too accessible. Yeah. Everyone thinks they like you owe them something. Everyone thinks that you'll spend that again running it. And I'm terrible too. Cause really when I'm off the juice, man, and I hear the right song, I'm like, wheel it!

SPEAKER_02

Wheel it! Yeah, wheel it to every track. Literally, just wheel it to every track. Um, oh, DJ Hot take. This one has to go to like the edits and stuff like that. Like every every edit, every edit, like if you do in like you don't have to call Usher background. You're doing popping Chris Brown background, just the instrumental for that, and then you put freaking the baby or little baby on it, bro. It's bro.

SPEAKER_00

You don't you don't have to call with little baby on, it's crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Like, bro.

SPEAKER_00

That's a little there's certain things that shouldn't be allowed, you know what I mean? It's it's it's a little like blasphemous, you know. I mean, it's not so I'm not saying any of them are God, but it's just like you don't do that, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And especially for like the art, the edits and stuff like that. Like, just because they're the same BPM and like they're the same key, yeah, does not mean that it has to be in an edit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then like hopes, like, I feel like most of the hopes are to like become viral and stuff.

SPEAKER_00

So it's like I guess that's where it comes from for sure.

SPEAKER_02

GG's, bro. The world is yours.

SPEAKER_00

GG's, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so we have a question from the last person who did the interview. They said, uh, what was the most important thing that's happened to you in this past year? Whoa.

SPEAKER_02

Most important thing that ever that happened to me in this past year, other than quitting your job, because like you already said. Yeah, I was about to say that, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

No, that's cheating.

SPEAKER_02

Um honestly realizing the importance of my community and my family, like again. Real like I I feel like it's needed to have like a constant reminder of like your surroundings and stuff like that. And especially because like the rapid pace that I'm going at right now in my career, careers, careers double ass. But like, yeah, the ever-changing like pace of my life, just realizing that you know what?

SPEAKER_00

Like, you have a foundation, a strong one. Yeah, a strong one, it's huge, a super strong one. When you don't have to look in your rear view, like facts, you're like, I know, I trust what's behind me.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. Like, even like witnessing people who you can tell very much that they forgot about their foundation, yes, yes, yeah, yeah. And they're going based off ego and their and pride and stuff like that. So it's just very thankful. I feel like that's one of the most important. That's real. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so before we close out the show, and it's been wonderful that for you to be here and like I'm having a great time.

SPEAKER_01

I love this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there'll be a part two on the other side, like the next one, you'll be like, So, yo, I'm a I'm a I'm fully an artist now, and now I'm signed, and now I'm going on tour. I would actually you know what I do want to ask you. What does the next two years I'm gonna say, not five? I think two is a good number.

SPEAKER_02

Two is a good number.

SPEAKER_00

What does that look like for you as an artist?

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, definitely tour. Tour collaborations. I want to work artists.

SPEAKER_00

Like, do we do we have a Dylan Sinclair feature coming?

SPEAKER_02

I hope so.

SPEAKER_00

I hope so. I would love that. That'd be that'll be sick.

SPEAKER_02

That'll be crazy full circle moment, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That'll be crazy.

SPEAKER_00

What about bamped? Bamped?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, we already have something.

SPEAKER_00

In the cut, you know what I mean? You heard it here first. Okay, okay, okay. So this is the end of the podcast. Uh, this is your plug portion. This is where you can kind of like, you know, plug the things you like. You know, shout out the people you want to shout out.

unknown

Oh man.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm saying? All that.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Well, shout out God for God did all of this. God directed all of this. Shout out my mom, shout out my dad, shout out my family, friends. So much people to shout out. But I'm gonna shout out my own grind.

SPEAKER_01

Real.

SPEAKER_02

You can follow me on Mad L V C M-A-A-D-L-V-C. And me. Yeah. Got some new music coming out. Super soon. Music videos coming out. Gonna collaborate with hella people too. Hopefully, do some more short films as well and integrated with my music.

SPEAKER_00

Real.

SPEAKER_02

Um, yeah. Dang. Shout out, shout out, Dev, man.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just here, man. No, you not, man.

SPEAKER_02

Such an inspiring man, bruh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'll just be here, man.

SPEAKER_02

You're so inspiring. Thank you for having me on the podcast. This is freaking fun, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

No, it's it's it's great. And you did an amazing job. Thank you. So, shout out to you. Thank you so much.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, that was good too. I wonder if they heard that. I don't know if they heard that. That was part. All right, well, until next time, that was Makers Make It Made. Uh, yeah. Talk to you guys soon.

SPEAKER_02

See ya.
