Smoking session review of the Sub Zero cannabis strain released by Rolling Green Cannabis.

SPEAKER_00

Something what's studio something what's up in New York. You're tuning into Gigland's Highland, the 420 podcast, with your host, the Skipper, and the Professor.

SPEAKER_01

Man, welcome back to Gigglin' Highland. You're here with the Professor and the Skipper. Today we are reviewing Sub Zero by Rolling Green Cannabis.

SPEAKER_00

Rolling Green Cannabis, New York State cultivar from Green, New York with 20 years of cultivation experience. They created a process called CTE, which gathers live growing data and utilizes it in the grow.

SPEAKER_01

As far as Sub Zero, it is a 50-50 hybrid of Super Booth and Oreos. Love that super booth. The turfs are caryophyll, pharnacine, and linolule. Effects are energetic, uplifted, and happy. Flavors are diesel, citrus, and pungent. As far as THC content, our friends in Leafly say 22%. Our friends at Allbuds say 24 to 28%. And our friends at Rolling Green itself say 30.72%.

SPEAKER_00

Three and a half grams or one eighth in a glass jar from the purple label.$50 to$60 average price. This haul here comes from our friends at Sage Seeds in Oakland Gardens. Ready for the roll? Ready for the roll, Skip. Let's do it. And we're back with the roll. How does it go, pro?

SPEAKER_01

Well, it definitely did not break big or small. It broke about what you saw as what you got when you broke it, but it was definitely enough in the package for both the blunt and the joint, with enough to spare for one, maybe two. Wow.

SPEAKER_00

How was the look? Big nugs, bigger than any rolling green I've seen up to date. Dark green with orange hairs, coated in frosty tricombs with hints of purple everywhere. Looks like a little snowball there. Great fruit notes, but without the sweetness.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely subtle, supple and not dry.

SPEAKER_00

Good. Has nice trimming and robust stems.

SPEAKER_01

I think we're ready for the smoke, Skip.

SPEAKER_00

We're ready.

SPEAKER_01

Let's do it.

SPEAKER_00

Let's do it.

SPEAKER_01

So definitely like an electric taste to it as soon as I started smoking. Very buzzy. Um strong turf profile, grapefruit. And uh, you know, so far so good. Good smoke, a slight choker. So I'm about a third in, and I'm definitely starting to feel something. Um definitely taste grapefruit. Uh, it's like a sour citrus, not a sweet citrus, a bitter citrus. I don't have the slight diesel, very slight diesel, no pungent. Uh, as far as the feelings, I definitely don't feel down, so I guess energetic or uplifted. Um, not happy yet. Uh, but I'm just a third in, of course. Starting to feel some effects behind the eyeballs, uh, but not high yet.

SPEAKER_00

How about you, Skip? Yeah, man. Uh, familiar gelato potency, it has that. Yeah, it has that in spades. What it doesn't have is the dense smoke. This smoke is more dry, like uh a dry smoke. And the taste at times turns a little bit to me, at least, from sour citrus to tobacco-ish. Like it's a dark finish there.

SPEAKER_01

That might be the Oreos touch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, that's what it seems like. Because Oreos has that a little bit of a tobacco feel, the dryness in the mouth and stuff. Yeah, this has it. But it also has that gelato, that gelato potency, but with like a clearer top end.

SPEAKER_01

But it's funny because what over it's like it has all those things for me, but what tops it is the grapefruit. Yeah, like it's on top of it. Oh, yeah. And then you get the those like slighter hints. Yeah. But I'm not getting any turp on the way out, like exhaling. I'm only getting that on the inhale.

SPEAKER_00

On the exhale, it feels a little bit like a cigarette. It has that little like a darkness. No, I'm not getting that.

SPEAKER_01

That was a strong grapefruit right there, taste. That was like I was eating a grapefruit.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm not a fan of grapefruit, mind you. Right. But it's pretty this is pleasant. The taste how it is. And it's not unpleasant. It compliments the gelato very well.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm about a halfway in at this point, and I am starting to feel the high settle in. It's funny because rolling green, for some reason, it always hits me in the nostrils. I don't know what that's all about. I'm also getting the back of the eye thing. Uh, you know, face. My face is feeling it. So I'm starting to get high. Uh am I like, you know, smacked? No, no, no, no. Not yet.

SPEAKER_00

How you feeling, Skip? Well, the high gates are opening. How far are you? I'm uh I'm still about a third in. This thing is burning slow. But I feel it. I'm on the I'm on it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely a smooth smoke, too. Not really a choker. Um, you know, a slight throat tickler here and there, but that's pretty much it.

SPEAKER_00

It's like another another rolling green iteration of gelato. And uh, I gotta say, at least for me, a more pleasant one. You know, I like this.

SPEAKER_01

Skip is doing bat flicks over this whole thing of like, you know, the gelato connection and rolling green.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, as you can, if you've been tuning in, you will see how I kind of I'll admit I take stabs at it here and there. And I mean, it's it's a great strain. It's a great strain, you know. It's a it's a heavy strain. It's kind of like uh sour diesel. You know, those markable, remarkable strains, you know, that have characteristics that are hard to forget. Yeah, you know, I concur. It's those heavy, heavy strains with the taste and smell is all up in your clothes, in your hair everywhere, you know. Gelato has that same characteristics. Only thing is it's sweeter. But still, you know, when you're at least for me, when I'm smoking weed, I like weed that has flavor, but I like the weed flavor to come through at least in a few notes. With gelato, that's a little bit difficult. And for some people, they love it.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's the whole reason runs was created because it takes the sweet part of the profile to the max and kind of minimizes the the the brute part of the weed. Of the taste.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I can see, and may and maybe that's why it's popular. A lot of people don't like the weed taste.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, a lot of people love runs for that.

SPEAKER_00

And I get that. I get that, but I prefer a diet version of it, and uh, this is nice because not only is it a diet version, at least in my opinion, it has added characteristics and strengths. The grapefruit being one of them. So pleasant, yes, pleasant note.

SPEAKER_01

Very strong profile as grapefruit in this one.

SPEAKER_00

And it's pleasant, it's pleasant. You know, if you're smoking on something for a while, and there are certain characteristics of what you're smoking that is ongoing and might annoy you, it won't go away. You know, some grape varietals are like that, right? Citrus varietals. Or heavy skunk. Right. But no, this one is not um, it's not unpleasant. Right, it's pleasant. Also, from the corner of my eye, I keep noting that uh almost 30% THC here. So it passes the threshold. That's another theory that I work on. Those that if you've been listening about varietals that fit between the 20 to 29 percentile, how it leaves like a spatial high versus those that go over the 29 percentile, that now the high is getting noticeably heavier, especially in the headspace there. Interesting. This falls in that category.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, according to our friends, it it's a huge variation because Leafly is saying 22%, but then you got RG saying 30, 31, and all but is like all over the place with from 24 to 28. So they're just hedging their bets. You know, they're just saying we're we're gonna go with everything.

SPEAKER_00

And for me, at least it looks needless to say that it's past the 20%. So if you're in between the 20 and the 30, it falls more into that different, headier high.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm in my last third, and the turp profile is still strong, yeah, very strong. Yeah, um, I'm still getting the taste through and through, definitely have a high settling in. Uh and just it's an interesting high because it's uh you could tell it's social. Yeah, it's something that you definitely want to be talking with friends and family, and a bit energetic. Yes, definitely a little bit energetic. I can definitely see the energetic aspect. Yeah, uh uplifted. I like I don't feel specifically euphoric or anything, do you? No, so I don't know about the uplifted or happy part, but definitely energetic, definitely feel like a high. There was like a little fog in the frontal lobe. Yeah. Um, not smacked, I'm not gonna say smacked. I'm not gonna say smacked. How about you skip?

SPEAKER_00

No, not at all. Not at all. Just pleasantly cruising along.

SPEAKER_01

Right. I guess that's the right way to put it. How many feet?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm not at 30,000. I'm like maybe 20 to 25.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so you're not like flying low, but at the same time, you're not at the cruising altitude that you want to be in.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not top gun yet. It's not top gun, but it's not top bum. So I guess that works too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's amazing how um modern cultivators, you know, they name their varietals and that forces everybody to become a botanist. Now everybody looks up, you know, everyone has leafly or some form of that on their phones. You know, everybody looks it up. Everybody's a botanist nowadays.

SPEAKER_01

Because we are learning slowly how these things in combination, THC, flavonoids, uh, terps, you know, all these things in combination is what creates great highs. Right. You know, we're learning that just putting 40% THC on a on a you know on a marijuana product and trying to smoke that just gives you a really bad headache. Right. It doesn't make you hire. There's something about the mix. And yeah, the scientists don't have it completely figured out yet, but they know that it's something in that direction. That's why now they're selling turps, that's why now they're trying to figure out how to improve flavonoids, you know. It's that's the whole point.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

It's to try to improve herb in other ways. They they first learned about THC. Improving THC can improve, you know, potency. Yeah, but they it looks like they realized that they took that as far as it can go, and now are looking at other ways to improve their products. And I think that's smart. I think that's a great way to go, you know, scientists. Just keep it cheap, okay? Don't try to like because once you make it expensive, I don't care about how great your weed is, I'll go for the skunk weed here. That's cheap. It's still a natural product, you know. It's supposed to be.

SPEAKER_00

RUV. RUVE. But let's just start off like coming from R U F the R U Free.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so I think I am in my just finished segment. So with that in mind, let's talk about how it went. It was a pleasant smoke. I had terps through and through. So, like till my last poll, there were terps. Uh I feel high. Uh, it's a you know, cerebral frontal high. I feel foggy in the front, I feel it in my face, a little numbness. Feels good. It's a social thing. Like I'm sitting here, you know, just jamming with the skip, and it's just a good feeling. It's a I definitely got the energetic feeling. I definitely I guess this is uplifted because I don't feel necessarily euphoric or happy. So I don't feel that one, but I do feel like a positive feeling in a way. So I guess that's the uplifted portion. Uh, there is a good high. Uh, but no, not smacked. Definitely not smacked. Let's see where it goes.

SPEAKER_00

And and the skip is back here, rounding out my last third high, nice high, a smooth high there. Gelato characteristics through and through. The potency is there, just a less dense smoke, uh lighter feeling, heavy at you know, at times the darkness at the exhale and the dryness that follows. But yeah, this is good. See you in the one hour later.

SPEAKER_01

And welcome back with one hour later. So, Skip, how did it go for you?

SPEAKER_00

I am not as high as I uh anticipated I would be, but it's low level. So it's there, but it's not as loud and prevalent. Same as before. The taste and turp profiles are still there, they were still very strong and very consistent. But the high has tapered as one would expect one hour later.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, well, I definitely had a high throughout the hour. It was a nice high, uh social, like I said, enjoyable. I felt that a few times that I was even approaching smack sometimes, if I like really thought about it, but I didn't get to smack. And then, yes, definitely a big taper off by the end of the hour. So, like, I am high still, I still feel it, but now it went and moved from the frontal lobe somewhere to the back of the neck, so it's not as comfortable feeling, and and that's what lets me know that it is a come down because it's in the back of my neck. Okay, uh, but as far as you know, the high was nice, the come down is kind of I didn't it's not a harsh come down, but it's a marked come down, right? Definitely, and I don't think I reached Mac levels, but it was an enjoyable high. I can definitely say that. Definitely. Are we ready for the smack a meter? Ready, all right. Let's do it. Let's do it. Definitely feel like this. This is alright. This is actually alright. I'm definitely feeling this. This is alright, this is actually all right. Ryan, we're back with the smack a meter. Soul skip.

SPEAKER_00

What do you think? Well, it was an enjoyable smoke. It's like a gelato light with matching potency, but it turns down almost midway. For that, I'll give it a 7.7. Okay, I can see that.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, well, you know me. I like to go through the whole experience and I'll do that. So it started with the jar, great turp profile from beginning to end. I was tasting grapefruit all the way till the end. The turp profile, it's funny because when we opened it, we were like, wow, that's a strong turp profile. But what is it? What is it? What is it? And it finally hit me, grapefruit. And we were like, yeah, and ever since then we couldn't shake the grapefruit. Uh, but very frosty, three giant buds. It was very pretty. Greens, browns, light greens, a little purple with a and it had like this frosty uh thing on the outside, which was very pretty. It looked like, you know, those old school holstice fruit pies, that little frosted uh coating that they usually have. It looked like that. Right. So it was very pretty. Strong turf profile from beginning to end. And as far as the smoke went, it had like a good grapefruit kind of electric taste. It was a pleasant smoke. Uh, not much of a choker, more of a throat tickler, you know, to choke here and there, but not too crazy. Uh, after I finished smoking, I felt a good high, and it felt like it could have ascended further, but it didn't. I have to honestly agree with uh Skip when he was saying that he didn't approach 30,000 feet earlier. I felt the same way. Like I felt like I almost got there, but never quite got there. And you know, that's not the worst thing in the world because it was still good weed and it was still a pleasant high. Like I had you know, it was an enjoyable high. We had a good hour here just shooting it and listening to music and stuff. So that was pretty awesome. So with that, I will also say that in the final tally, the great presentation, fantastic turret profile, but never reaching the the smacked heights means for me that I will give it around a 7.5. But like I said, not a bad thing. Not a bad thing. It's actually a pretty pleasant high.
