Smoking session review of the Lemon Tree Runtz cannabis strain released by Runtz.

SPEAKER_01

Something what's 20 hours. Tony into Giglin's Highland. With your house. The skipper. And we're back with Giglin Highland. Today we are reviewing Lemon Tree Runts by Runts.

SPEAKER_00

Runts, originally a West Coast exotic brand, it's now part of the higher-end offerings in New York. Their claim to fame is no myths, no knockoffs. The brand was founded by Young LB and Ray Bamma, those are the cultivators. However, in New York, they are another collaboration with One Off distributors, who also packages other brands in New York like Strange Gang and Doobie Labs. If One Off is involved, so is AP Cohen, the packaging company.

SPEAKER_01

Lemon Tree Runts, a 50-50 hybrid cross between Runts and Lemon Tree. Top flavors are butter, lemon, and citrus. Top turps are lemonine, linoleol, and mersine. Top effects are euphoric, relaxed, and hungry. THC values are as follows: 21% according to Leafly, 19 to 23% according to All Bud, and a hefty 26% according to Runts.

SPEAKER_00

As far as our strain today, it came in a 3.5 ounce purple bottle, which is their hallmark, purple bottles, white labels. And it usually retails around $55 to $70. We got this one from Nuna Harvest in Locust Street in Mount Vernon. And it's down the block from Pizza Pizza. Make sure to pay them a visit, y'all.

SPEAKER_01

Money on Vernon in the house. Are we ready for the roll? Ready for the roll, Skip? Let's do it. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_00

We're back with the rolls. How did it go, pro? Well, it broke pretty even. I mean, I can say a little small, but that was due to the dryness. And as far as what was left over, we definitely had enough for one more after the blunt and the J.

SPEAKER_01

How did it look, Skip? Medium to large size nugs, a bit dry, and not a loud pack at all. But up close, there is a persistent citrus skunky note going up there. That's right, like a bitter citrus. Uh mixed greens with orange hairs, pretty looking, bud, a little bushy. Let's see how it goes. I think we're ready to smoke it. We're ready. Let's do it. Let's do it. Oh god. Oh god. Have that citrusy note.

SPEAKER_00

That's a citrusy note with something in it. I'm not sure if it's lemon or butter or anything like that, but there's like a little extra in there. I'm trying to figure it out.

SPEAKER_01

I would just say it's like skunky kind of a little lemon.

SPEAKER_00

It's the pre-light pull. All right, let's see how it goes.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's good tasting. It's weird even to taste it before you light it. And it's like you just rolled up some tang or some double.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's an interesting way to put it. Yeah. So far, very light smoke. Um, not a choker off the gate. Uh, very smooth. Still got that bitter citrus turp profile. Very mild, very mild. But yes, definitely like a bitter citrus. I don't want to say lemon. Right. Yeah, it's more. That's what it I feel like that secondary flavor is. It's like butter, right? Yeah, yeah. It's opening up there, and it's like a little bit. Gotta say, already my spider senses are already starting to tingle. It's not a bad thing. So, this Runs company, you know, uh, it's argued a lot of times if uh these companies are national or local. There is no doubt that this is a um a multi-state operation. Um they they clearly say it. They say that they are the same brand as what originally came out in Los Angeles a few years ago. Um, and it's the same cultivars. So, you know, unlike a lot of other companies that are trying to disguise that they're multi-state operations, these guys are like wide open about it. We're a multi-state operation, we come from LA. And so, um, but that's not completely the truth. As you heard earlier, they still have to have distributors here, which means that the weed is still grown here in New York, or at least it's supposed to be according to the law. And that's where uh AP Cohen and uh one-off distributors come in. Um, these guys are companies that uh AP Cohen is the packaging company, and one off is the distributing company, and they actually do quite a few brands that you know. Uh, like I said earlier, they do do labs, string gang, runs, they do a bunch of different brands, so a lot of um pre-rolls, uh the vape, uh vape pens, and other brands this is their offerings into the flower market, and it retails at about the same price as uh Strain Gang. So it looks like that's their niche in the market, which is higher end.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, so far, the only uh indications that this could be high end, it's a smooth smoke, very smooth, yeah, and kind of like tuned. No overpowering notes or nothing.

SPEAKER_00

It's pretty that's right. I'm in my first third. Feel kind of a sedative quality. Yeah, um, I know I feel like my eyes are closing, like I'm gonna have uh closed eyes. Uh feel it a little bit in the back of my head. As far as physicality, uh yeah, no, no, not really much um physical-wise. It's I feel pretty much the same, so it's not removing any type of pain or anything. And it does have the runs finish. Uh it's a little difficult to describe. That like that I understand what you mean. It's like that runs aftertaste. Yeah, it does have it. It does have it. Yes, it does, it does. But you know, I guess that's to be expected if it's called runs, right? Right, of course.

SPEAKER_01

But it's not overpowering like certain certain runs, you know, have it in spades. This one is pretty nice.

SPEAKER_00

Burning fast. But I attribute that to the dryness. This was a pretty dry package, and looking at it, being brutally honest, it looks like it's going to expire in about two, two and a half months. Again, we have to get the package that we are sold in the store. And so we have to test it just like you, John Q public, right? We have to test it because this can happen to you too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But of course, what does that mean? That means that in our reviews, we're gonna have a caveat of if it wasn't as dry, right?

SPEAKER_01

And of course, we've thought of that, you know, of um making even a segment I thought of, but I don't really want to be a company or a dispensary over the head, you know, for dry product.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Uh we believe, although we believe that the dispensary and the company couldn't do more.

SPEAKER_02

Of course.

SPEAKER_00

We believe it's more of a structural problem. In other words, you know, the the rules, the laws allow this. Right, right. And what has to happen is up on the legislative level, you know, we need better controls, quality controls. And then we can push forward with those things. And then also to incentivize quality control, right? If you can tell companies that they have to, for example, if you make a law that if the if the strain is three months away from expiring, it has to be put at a discount. You know, that that would be huge. And, you know, you would also be able to clear a lot of that stock before it actually inspires because people that are coming looking for discounts are that's what they're gonna look for, and they'll always have something to find. So that also helps the consumer, right? Because if you have consumers that just want to look for discounts, there's always discounts available. Um, and it might be stuff that they like. So it's a very good incentive for everyone involved that that was the case. Right.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, not to unfairly juxtapose uh one scene over uh over another, but in New York City, in the retail side, there is a lot of oversight from the uh from the city government. And a lot of times if you own a grocery store, any kind of store where you're selling any kind of wares where this could be food or something that you put on your body, like alcohol, Vaseline, anything like that produce that has an expiration date. Yeah, they they come down on those stores for selling things past or even near expiration, like chips, potato chips.

SPEAKER_00

Right. So it's just one more step to do it in this market. So I'm about halfway. Um still very light, mild, high, but it's there. I feel it there. Yeah, um, it's kind of uh, you know, let's see, let's look at the effects and see if it runs down. Do we feel euphoric? No, no, I don't feel euphoric. Relaxed? No. Hungry. No, I can't say that either. Um, so the effects are not what we're seeing here. However, I can say I do feel a fogginess. Yeah, it's kind of an indeterminate high, it's like generalized. Yeah, but there is a fogginess, okay, and um hoping it increases. You know, because I I personally believe that if you're gonna charge me twice the amount that other brands are charging me for what's essentially the same product, right? You have to be way more impressive than the you know, the $30 version of what you're selling. Absolutely. But Skip and I have learned that that's not always the case, right?

SPEAKER_01

Pricing is seems to be like an idea, right?

SPEAKER_00

It seems to be like something that they go in before they even start growing. It's like we're gonna pick sell it for this much, and it's like, shouldn't you be uh selling it according to the quality of your product? Or, you know, if you go in already saying it's gonna cost 60 bucks, but you haven't even tried the marijuana yet, right? Like it's kind of rough, man. But that's a lot of these companies, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because we're as the public none the wiser what is high-end, what is not. You know, I mean they can tell you it is, and the price can reflect that, but you will only know after you purchase and try the product.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And so, you know, we we can say that the bud is decent. You know, you when you look at it in the packet and you bounce it around, it looks decent. It looks like it's still a good viable bud. You know, you're looking at the bottom of the jar, you can see the buds. Yeah, so that even that is not an indicator, right? Right? It can look really pretty, but then when you open it, crunch, crunch, and you're like, oh, it just looked pretty, it doesn't feel pretty, right?

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, and really, I mean, at this level, should it should any weed at this price point be crunchy?

SPEAKER_00

No, right. I also agree with that. Definitely concur. So feeling definitely the sedative effect. Yeah, um no euphoria. I guess the sedative effect could be argued that it is relaxed, right? We can argue that's relaxed, yeah. Um but yeah, not hungry, not euphoric. Um, it's still like the bitter citrus, but it does definitely have that runs aftertaste. Like that is no doubt about it. No doubt about it. Um, but I mean, I have barely coughed, right? I coughed maybe once. So whatever a choker is, this is the opposite.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is definitely tuned in. You know, you can tell as far as the smoke and the uh flavors, everything is tuned in not to overpower one or the other.

SPEAKER_00

So it's meant for like a new guy that doesn't want to choke too much, you know, doesn't want it to taste too bad. Right. Well, here you go. You know, it's a boutique brand here.

SPEAKER_01

And that's what that was my next point. That, you know, being uh that this is tuned, not many cultivators go through the trouble of tuning it to this point, because we all know that time is money. So there was some effort here. I I want to you know, I want to spotlight that that there is an effort here by Runz, the company here, to make this seemingly a high-end product, the tuning of it, you know.

SPEAKER_00

So at this point, um I'm at down to my last third, it's burning quick. Uh, and it's yeah, the sedative quality, the foggy quality is just increasing more and more. Usually my face gets really numb when I'm high, and I don't have that feeling right now. I only have it kind of like in my nose and my eyes. Yeah. Um, I do feel high. I'm not smacked. That's where I'm at. What do you think, Skip? Where are you at?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a low-level high. It's a very functional high. This is it's hard to say high, you know?

SPEAKER_02

It's hard to say.

SPEAKER_00

It's like you can this is the type of high that you can literally do anything. Well, don't hop, please don't operate heavy machinery.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_00

But like you can, if you wanted to like get high and then go do go work out. You wanted to get high and you know, finish your homework. You wanted to get high and you know, play some video games or watch a movie, this is perfect for that. Like it's not gonna impede on anything you're trying to do. And it's and you know, it might it's it feels like it'll stay nicely in the background, too, like while you're doing what you gotta do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But if you want to be sit sitting around getting smacked, you know, couch locked, probably not the strain for you. Yeah, no. Wow, that cough like enhanced the high a little bit right there. Wow, that was nice. Yeah, man, so we need to cough more. What's going on? And it's not it's not inducing cough. So there are a few high-end varieties in New York at this point. And you know, for Skip and I, well, let me just speak for myself, right? Skip could speak for himself. Um, you know, we wonder a little bit skeptically, right? Like, what is the big deal that you're gonna charge so much money for an eighth? Right? Sixty dollars for an eighth, right? Yeah, that means that ounce is four hundred and eighty dollars. Like, really? Really? Like, what marijuana is worth four hundred and eighty dollars an ounce plus tax, exactly, which is not insignificant in New York State. So that would probably come out to anywhere be like $550 for an ounce of this, which is crazy. It's crazy. If I bought it for $60, let's say whatever, it's $60 tax, everything was $60, right? Because we say $55 to $70. Let's say $60. Yeah. That's about $550 with tax. And this is where we insert the caveat. Well, maybe if it wasn't so dry.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, the vagaries of buying marijuana. Oh, yeah. I mean, spending money, period. You know, especially nowadays in this climate. You know, we gotta hold on to our coins.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, we have found, and don't get us wrong, we have found some high-end marijuana that are like, wow, yeah, I get why that's high. Yeah, we've gotten that. But we've also had low stuff, stuff that is like just the other day, we had one that was like retails for wow, it was really low, right? And yeah, it was excellent.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, budget, you know, budget, anything from the 25 to 35.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, $20 to 35, like around there. And it was fantastic. Yeah. So we're a little skeptical when it comes to this pricing, you know. Are we paying for the weed? Or are we paying for the fancy package and the fancy advertising? And the weed is the same. Because if I'm getting all of this from one-off distributors, how do I know that they're not cross-boarding their marijuana and different brands and the different names? Especially since we found out the other day that there's no real regulation on what you name your strains. Right. So, in other words, uh, this lemon tree runs can be called can be three different marijuana called lemon tree runs. It's crazy. I can't believe that one. That one blew my mind. Yeah. A strain that I really loved. I may never smoke that strain again. I may be smoking strains named it, right? But not the same one. Right. And that's sad, man.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it is. I mean, you're you're we end up in general chasing a stro uh a strain that we think is a strain, a particular strain, and it's something else in the end.

SPEAKER_00

Choke in a little at the end, but I welcome it. Seems to enhance the high. Smooth all the way through, though. That's just me, you know, taking pull losing the bitter citrus towards the end. Yeah, more of that. Um the runs. Yeah, that's right. Right? Yeah. It's like saying, Okay, naked runs now. Forget all the other flavors. Here you are. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Are you feeling?

SPEAKER_01

Are you feeling but let's just start off like coming from the tree?

SPEAKER_00

We're getting strong at the end with the runs. No more citrus, no more smooth.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I'm rolling into my just finish, and uh the high is still the same. I have I didn't cough much, so as far as that elevation, I'm not getting any of that. But um, the high is persistent and uh low level. It's a low functional high. Let's see how that goes into the hour.

SPEAKER_00

Just hit my just finished. Uh sedative effect. It increased a little with coughing, but I didn't cough much. Skip didn't cough at all, so he didn't get the increase.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um it's just sedative and foggy. It's uh really indeterminate. Running down the effects one more time, euphoric, relaxed, hungry. I don't particularly feel euphoric. Do you skip? No, relaxed, yeah, okay. Okay, we could say relaxed. Um, hungry? I never understood that one. But no, I don't feel hungry. So yeah, just feeling uh a little foggy in the head. Um, you know, and then as far as physical effects, feel it in the eyeballs, feel it in my the tip of my nose. Uh, but I don't feel like um it took away any of my kinks. So don't look for it to do that for you. This is not medicinal. And yeah, I think that about covers it. So I think we'll see you guys in an hour. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

One hour later.

SPEAKER_01

One hour later. What do you think, Skip? Well, one hour later, I don't feel high, but I do feel the after effects. And it was a mild high to begin with. So the after effects, what I what it is, is a bit more of the physical aspect, where before it was more of the mental, spiritual. Now it's more physical. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, one hour later, yeah, a lot of tapering. I, you know, it's funny because uh Skip and I are here talking, and I had like a yawn, and it felt like a bubble popped. And that happened maybe 10-15 minutes before the hour came up, and literally was that was it. Um, I still feel a general fogkiness, you know, post-high feelings. Um, but yeah, no high. It's pretty much done for me. Yeah, um, so yeah, I guess that's that. And with that thought, time for a smack a meter, I think. It's time. Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Definitely feel like this.

SPEAKER_03

This is alright. This is actually alright. Definitely feel like this. This is alright. This is actually alright.

SPEAKER_01

And we're back with the smack a meter. How does it go, bro?

SPEAKER_00

All right, let's do the rundown. So, you know, we opened it up. Um, you know, nice packaging. We opened it up. It was dry. You know, you guys need a fresh pack in there, runs. Um, and you know, still had two months before. Well, actually, no, three months before the expiration date. So there should be some suppleness in there. And it was pretty dry. Uh, other than that, dark greens, mustards, brown hairs, you know. Uh, it was you know what's another thing that we never talked about? It was hard to find tricones. Wow, you know what?

SPEAKER_01

You're absolutely right. I don't remember seeing any.

SPEAKER_00

I saw one or two, like when I was breaking it up, but it was really hard to find.

SPEAKER_01

Wow, you just blew me away. Yeah, you're right.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, you know, medium-sized nugs, very mild turp profile. It was like a bitter citrus.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Little sweet. Um, as far as experience, well, smoking it, I mean, gotta say, it was really smooth, you know. And uh the turp profile was very mild, but it was there. It was like a bitter citrus kind of feel, right? With uh aftertaste of um of kind of a runt aftertaste, right? I mean, it is half runs. Uh, and it was a good experience smoking. Um, you know, the high was there, it was a foggy, general, half foggy kind of feeling, but nothing really stood out. Um, and it wasn't a strong high. Um, but it was something that would probably be useful if you just need the high to be in the background while you get stuff done. That's the best way I can put it. Yeah, that's true. Um they did get me smacked, not even close. And so with that in mind, I'm going to give it a 6.1. Okay. But with the caveat that it's a possibility that it's much better when it's fresher. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And with that, I uh we're like-minded again. And yeah, I feel the same way. It's uh decent smoke, and I keep using the term tuned, which I still believe, which means that uh it was cultivated for its effects and how it goes down. A smooth smoke. The smoke is very decent, lacking terps. You know, it would have been better if it was uh it had any flavor of that lemon or anything to come out and join the terps and to the entourage effect. And that's my next point. That because of that, also the high suffered. So basically, lack of moisture. Good product, but the price that we paid doesn't reflect the high. And for that, I'm gonna have to give it a 5.8.

SPEAKER_00

Great point, Skip. Man, I didn't even put that aspect in it. I might have scored it a little lower because it's true. Your high end, you gotta come strong, guys. We're gonna call you on it. If you're selling your product at a higher end, but you're not delivering, we're gonna call you out. And good mates, that is our review.
