Smoking session review of the Acapulco Gold cannabis strain released by Back Home Cannabis Company.

SPEAKER_01

With your house. Skipper.

SPEAKER_02

And we're back with Giglin Highland. Today we are reviewing Acapulco Gold by Back Home Cannabis Company.

SPEAKER_03

Back Home Cannabis Company, a 75-acre farm in High Falls, New York. They also grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, and mushrooms. Real farm, y'all. Family-owned. They support regenerative growing methods.

SPEAKER_02

Acapulco Gold, 100% or 80-20, depending on where you get your information. Sativa Landrace, originally from Acapulco, Mexico, became popular in the U.S. in the 1960s due to its potency and ubiquitousness. Top terps are caryophylline, myersine, and lemonine. Top flavors are honey, chestnut, and coffee. Top effects are focused, creative, and energetic. THC values are as follows: 22.6% according to back home cannabis, 18 to 20 according to Leafly, and 19 to 22% THC according to All Bud.

SPEAKER_03

As far as packaging, this haul came today in a 3.5 ounce orange Mylar bag. Usually retails anywhere between $20 and $35. And this haul came from Alto Cana on Chamber Street, across from the trilogy photo. Make sure to pay them a visit, guys. Definitely. And I think we're ready to roll it. Let's do it. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

How did it break? It broke pretty even, which is one joint and one blunt, and there's enough possibly left over for another round.

SPEAKER_03

Sounds good as far as the look. Light greens, beiges, golds, brown hairs, champagne tricombs all over those buds. Medium-sized, supple buds, very bushy. Turps hit right out of the bag. I got honey and spice. Yeah, definitely. It's loud that way. Loud and sweet. Loud and sweet is true. And I think we're ready to smoke it and find out how loud and sweet. What do you think, Skip? Yeah, we're ready. Let's do it. First impressions. Oh, I got a little bit of the chestnut and coffee when I smelled it right before lighting it. Yeah, yeah, I can get it. A little touch of it. Oh, yeah, I got that. Wow, that's actually really strong inside the J.

SPEAKER_02

And a lot of that honey too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it got that honey taste when you're like pulling from the J. Let's see what happens when we light it. Wow. First impression was straight chestnut. Totally got chestnut out of that. Wow, that first one I almost felt like I didn't pull anything. I had to double check. I had to double check that I pulled something. Yeah. Yeah, definitely chestnut. I don't have the coffee as far as pulls. I got the honey, got the chestnut. Yeah. And it didn't get the spice that I smelled when I first broke it up. So we've gone through the entire run from back home cannabis. Um, and overall, we can say that uh the back home cannabis company. What did you think about them overall, Skip? Like the whole run.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, overall, it it impressed me, in fact. It uh I didn't think much of it from in the beginning because of the price point, honestly, you know. And um, I mean, I know better than to, you know, paint with a brush, brush about budgets and stuff, because there's a lot of budget brands that are good. But this was new to me. So, you know, and the way the package looked, very fancy. But I gotta say, overall, with the experience we now have, it's it'd be tough to beat at this price point.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, I have to concur with Skip. I think that um I also had some preconceived notions of the strain and and of the of the actual company, you know, because it was it's always so low priced. Right. So I always thought to myself, man, that must be like some garbage, you know. Right. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah. Like uh as far as the whole um run. They have about seven or eight strains that they keep, it was it, nine strain, eight or nine strains, right? That they keep um they keep regular as their regular strains. And um which I personally think it's always a good move to do. Yeah, you know, because your customers will come back if they know that this is the known quantity they're gonna return. Continuity. Right. So I think that's a great move. Right. And yeah, the only thing I would say about back home is that they don't package their own things, they package by canaline. Okay, but it looks like it's their herb because it's back home farm. And as far as the herb itself, Acapulco Gold. So far, so good. It's a nice tasting. Yeah. Um, you feeling anything yet?

SPEAKER_02

I'm feeling a little pressure in the eyes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, me too. I'm definitely feeling some pressure in the eyes. Sometimes you worry when you buy something that's less expensive. You, you know, you want something quality. But the other thing that we are learning is that because you paid a high price for something doesn't necessarily mean that it's also high quality. Right. Like we're starting to learn that also.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, unfortunately, that is the truth. And with this one here, I I don't chase the brand. I've chased this strain many times just to see if there was any of those attributes I would hear the the older guys talk about, the original 70s Akapul called gold. And I gotta say that in its totality, I've been disappointed. So whenever I see, you know, heritage strains like this in this in the dispensary, I'm skeptical. You know.

SPEAKER_03

Ironically, back home cannabis company, I think their entire strain is all heritage strains.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

They have uh Northern Lights and Gorilla Glue and And those are all heritage, still fairly new, you know, compared to the older ones like Acapulco Gold.

SPEAKER_02

But so far, I gotta say, this is very interesting. Smoke, it's nice, it's uh well balanced, and you feel it. And the added notes, the uh the butter notes, the uh the cream, there's like some creaminess about it. That's a new one because usually Acapulco Gold is is usually potent, but uh straight flavor, not many notes. Here they they added something to the recipe, which is nice.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a nice smoke so far. I am feeling the chestnut, the touch of honey. I'm not getting as much of the coffee as I was before. But uh, you know, so far pleasant. Uh you know, it could be a choker if you know you pull too hard or take that pull that goes in the wrong way or whatever. But oh yeah, like I said, when you take a pull, uh you get a choker. So I'm in my first third. Spider senses definitely take like I'm getting a little fog in the center of my brain. In the center, it's coming from the center, and it's like radiating outwards, so it's like something right in the middle of my brain, and I'm feeling it from there. Uh as far as other feels I can say that, yeah, I'm not feeling any kink, so this might be a good one for medicinal purposes. Uh but let's look, let's look at the effects. You know, every third I look at the effects, so let's take a look. What do we think? Focused? Not more than usual, right? I don't think so. Creative. That one I never understand. But whatever. Creative? No. Energetic. Oh no, more relaxed, if anything. Yeah. I mean, I guess in a way, I do feel a little up, you know, not tired.

SPEAKER_02

Uplifted a little bit.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe. So I I I could stretch and say energetic is starting to pop in. But I am not getting focused or creative. Uh that part is not happening. Of all the heritage, you know, how you said skip that you get disappointed trying the Acapulco golds of the past, right? So, what heritage strain was the most impressive or the most like what you've heard? That's an interesting question, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, very interesting. Uh, the closest would probably be sour diesel. And perhaps it's because it's one of it is a heritage strain, but it's of the newer type. So maybe that's why uh, you know, everybody always, you know, grabs for the haze. There's the haze as well.

SPEAKER_03

I was about to say church hate, you know, church, yeah, you know, uh pure haze or whatever which you call church, yeah, also aka. Um, that was the one that like I would hear things about it, and when I smoked it, I really liked it. Like, I was like, wow, this is what they were talking about. Yeah, and I think that's the closest one. Yeah, another one that that happened with is also a Mexican strain, similar to Acapulco Gold, if I recall correctly, and it's called Tarantula. Tarantula. Tarantula. And that one was also like, oh man, that's that's a whole other story in itself. You know, the first time I uh smoked tarantula, and it was like, it's a great story, which you'll hear in another podcast. Yeah. Um, but yeah, Taranchula, that was a good, a good strain. It was a good strain. It was like, it was it was funky, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And again, that's always fun. You know, you go to the dispensary and you're just seeing what wares they have and you see something that you know jumps out that you might be familiar with. Why not? I'm sure nine or maybe even eight times out of ten, I'll even go as low as that. Most purchases are made from prior experience, you know, especially with strains blindly to the cultivator of the label or what have you.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Right? If if all fails, you pick a strain, right? Hey, I like that strain. I smoked that before and you try it. That's usually the starting point. Right. As far as a strain that disappointed me, that was an original strain, a heritage strain. I think I can say Jamaican Sensamiya. Yeah. When I went to Jamaica on a trip, you know, one of the first things I said was, I want to find Sensomia, because that comes from Jamaica, right? So like I want to find it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I went around looking for it and I finally found it. This old Rasta had it. He had some Sensomia, it smelled just like it. I know it. It was like, wow, this is real Sensamiya. And yeah, I didn't get that high. I was like, wow, okay, this must, you know, the legends. Yeah. Well, it was a different time. Yeah. Back then, it was great.

SPEAKER_02

You know, 15%. That's what I felt 10% THC.

SPEAKER_03

It felt like it was no more than 15% THC. You know, back then that was a lot. But it was nice as an experience to be able to like say, I've I got to do it.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_03

But you know, these are the the type of herbs that you know, these people go out and grow them in like the forest, the jungle. Yeah. And their climate, like you can grow it right outside, and it will grow. Oh, yeah. You know, this is the stuff they they're pulling it out of the ground, you know, the weeds out of the ground. Like, it's it's a wonderful thing. And it must be nice to be able to find OG Alcapoco gold like that too, or taranchula for that matter, somewhere in the jungle. Like, hey, look what we got here. That would be really sweet. They cut that way. I wonder if that happens like today. You know, that you can walk out into like the Mexican jungle and or Mexican forest and like find marijuana wild marijuana. Would that not be cool? Of course.

SPEAKER_02

That would be awesome, and I don't see why that wouldn't be possible in certain places of the world. You know, the same could be said in the uh to go down to the Cush region, India, Pakistan, and get that Afghanistan, that Afghani real good Indica, like deep Indika, that funky stuff, you know. Meanwhile, the largest market in the world, in the largest city in the world economically, and uh we're reduced to looking at nice packages of marijuana.

SPEAKER_03

Well, unfortunately for us, we don't have uh the best climate for it. No, of course, but I mean this is all supposed to be locally grown, right? Supposed to be. Dot dot dot. Got a touch of spice right there. This is uh a slow burner. I just hit half. It's a really slow burner. Uh the high feels good. Yeah, uh, it's uh it feels even though it's a sativa, it feels kind of like an indica-ish kind of feel, right? Yeah, it has a lot of relaxed. A relaxing thing, right? Like I don't feel focused and energetic. I don't feel that stuff. I feel like relaxed. Yeah. Okay, I mean maybe energetic, but I don't feel focused and creative. Right. Working on the effects, remember? Every every uh quarter we do an effect. Still getting the honey, still getting the chestnut. I'm not getting the coffee. Are you getting the coffee skip?

SPEAKER_02

No, it it doesn't turn dark, it stayed on the sweet end there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so this is um an interesting smoke. It's a relaxed feeling. I feel like an Indika kind of thing going on. It's not super strong, but strong enough. Yeah. And um, yeah, feels good. Feels good. You know, the other that's like it got two things going for it, right? It's cheap, right? It is local, right? Like you know it's local, it's not some big company from somewhere else. So I'm down to my last third, and yeah, just enjoying the high, old school feel. Uh foggy brained in the front, um, bubble headed in the back, you know, run down the effects one more time, focused. No, no, not really, creative, energetic. I could say I feel, you know, I feel good. This is the second half of my day, so like to, you know, to feel like I'm up, I'm ready to rock and roll. Like you can tell me, let's do something, and I can I'm ready for it. I don't feel too tired or anything. I'm not achy, not achy breaky or anything. So it works out nicely. Um as far as how it tastes all the way through, still got the chestnut. It's funny because it's still it has also like a little chemical chem in it. Yeah, you notice that like it's almost like a a chem, a little touch of it. But no, and then of course the honey was there, but it's not really there as much. Rolling into my just finished. Wow, I'm talking too much.

SPEAKER_02

No, that's okay. And you know what? I didn't even fill the blunt in hindsight, and actually it was pretty impressive because it still hit. You know, I noticed by like half to the end, and I'm like, wow, I really didn't and it was kind of fluffy as well, but it hit all the way to the end. I mean, it's nice, it's different, you know, with all the notes jumping out, so it's a different type of or their version of Acapulco Gold. And it's nice.

SPEAKER_03

As you can see here, with me being a rambling man over here, it must be you know effective because I am lit. Am I smacked? You smacked, Skip? No, yeah, I'm not smacked. I'm not gonna say I'm smacked.

SPEAKER_02

Right, it's a more a little bit of an old school high, you know, where it has its limits, but yeah, this is nice.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, where you can go on with your afternoon, you know, doing stuff with your friends, but you're lit.

SPEAKER_02

But let's just start off like coming from my just finish.

SPEAKER_03

And uh yeah, I gotta say, got a little uh sh strong in the end there, but you know, so far a very good pull and very good smoke. Um it got a little harsh too at the end, as you can hear from my voice. But other than that, pretty enjoyable. Um, the highs you know, foggy in the front, like I said, a bubble in the back, feeling really good. You know, feeling um as far as what you can do with this, you know, feeling social, right? Right. I feel like I can pretty much do anything right now, and that's the energetic part. Let's see how it holds, right? Yeah, see him in an hour, Skip. Let's do it. Let's do it. And we're back, Gabling Highland, one hour later.

SPEAKER_02

Skip, give us the breakdown. Well, I'm still flying. Actually, uh, not as high though, because of course one hour later it tapered, but it's still there, you know. It's still there. I still have a lot of that uh ocular pressure and internal pressure. So really, this is nice. One hour later.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, good uh yeah, there was a taper. Um off the peak. But um, yeah, I gotta agree with Skip. It's a good, it's a good uh off-peak. It's a good uh taper. And yeah, so far enjoyable high. Um a little different from what it was described, but you know, we're gonna get into that in the smack a meter, which I think we're ready for. What do you think, Skip? We're ready. All right, let's do it. Let's definitely feel like this. This is alright. This is actually alright. And definitely feel like this. This is alright, this is actually all right.

SPEAKER_02

And we're back with the smack a meter. How does it go, pro?

SPEAKER_03

All right, well, let's give it the rundown. So, Acapulco Gold, uh, you know, very famous. Uh, you know, we've heard about it, or we've heard our dads talk about it, you know, all that stuff. If your dad messed around with that kind of stuff. But anyway, uh, let's give it the breakdown. We opened it and, you know, it looked really good. Uh, it had beautiful, uh, nice little trichomes and pretty looking, uh, nice buds, very bushy, supple buds. Really nice. Uh turp came out of the bag, very sweet. Um, when we rolled it, it looked good, you know. Smelled it. It had that little hint of coffee that they were talking about, but that's really the only time I got it. Uh, then we smoked it. Uh, it was good smoke. Uh, you know, uh, I'm not as experienced with Acapoko Gold as Skip is, but I thought it was very enjoyable. Uh, I'm not gonna say that I was smacked, I wasn't. Um, and there, you know, and understandably there was like a kind of a ceiling there. But as to where the zone that it was at, it was actually pretty good. I thought it was very good. You know, the effects, I didn't really get focused, I didn't really get creative, but I got energetic. I felt energetic. Uh, I also felt relaxed. Uh, like I was saying the whole time, you know, um foggy in the front, the low bubble in the back. Uh that's kind of that pretty much explains it. Uh so with all that in mind, uh, I would like, you know, I'm talking about the price point, you know, but you know, which is a positive, but also talking about that it felt like there was a ceiling somewhere there, uh, which is you know not as positive. But you know, taking all those things into account, I would like to give it a 7.5. I thought it was, you know, really good, you know. Um, and I think if anybody was looking for something like this in a pinch, yeah, go for it. What do you think, Skip?

SPEAKER_02

Definitely like-minded. Good points that the pro raised, and definitely the price point really is the piece de resistance here, not so much the experience, because that in itself was interesting, different. It's so far, I want to say with a grain of salt that it's the best Acapulco Gold I've come across in the dispensary market. Wow. But I understand this is a different version of it. All these different notes that jumped out, which are very pleasant, which added to the experience, is not indicative of this strain. So I give kudos to back home cannabis for reinventing something that you know they can have a good handle on the quality. And for that, I'm gonna give it a 7.3. Interesting.

SPEAKER_03

So the ancillary uh considerations really put it up there for you.

SPEAKER_02

Put it up there, yeah. It's a it's they took a shot and they hit it out the park.
