We hang with Sitting On Saturn as they go from viral TikTok covers to Joe Jonas sliding into their DMs, then straight into the chaos and joy of sold-out Banana Ball shows. They break down what it feels like to perform under real pressure and why they refuse to stick to one genre.

Also hear how DIY videography helps them move faster than bands waiting on outside teams, and what they’ve learned from sharing space with names like 311, Fat Mike, and Pierre from Simple Plan.

We wrap with what’s next, including Warped Tour energy and a batch of newly recorded songs ready to drop.

SPEAKER_05

You think you know the industry, but you have no idea. The number one show about everything music related and more. Of course, this is behind the scenes. I am guns, joined by Dickie Barrett, of course, Sully Sullivan himself. And we are honored, stoked, and looking forward to this because sitting on Saturn are with us live in studio. What's up, fellas? Yeah, so listen, a lot of great things have been happening with you, of course, from being discovered by the Jonas Brothers, Saturn 311. But most importantly, as far as I'm concerned, is the fact that you are part of Banana Ball. We all know that the Savannah Bananas, it is pretty much the Super Bowl for Gen Z and Zoomers and beyond. Massively important, massively huge. And sitting on Saturn is the official band, the official theme song, the official music group for the Loco Beach Coconuts. Let's go, fellas. Come on, baby. Come on.

SPEAKER_00

We got Banana Ball 311 Jonas Brothers. You just think it was some pretty big guys. We're doing all the quests here.

SPEAKER_04

We're checking them all.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, the last year of your life has been nuts.

First Banana Ball At Petco

SPEAKER_03

Talk to us about it. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Yesterday was a blast, dude. The whole weekend.

SPEAKER_00

So yesterday was the first at Petco Park in San Diego. Saturday.

SPEAKER_02

It was two days.

SPEAKER_00

That was our very first day. First banana balls that you guys are at. Sold out.

SPEAKER_03

That was like one of the biggest ones was like the first one. Yeah. It was awesome. It sold out stadium. Everyone's just like having a great time. Everyone. And um we had uh we had a half basically like during their play, we had to go out and we did play to help by the Beatles. Okay. Uh, and it was terrifying.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, I saw a clip of it. It didn't look like you were terrified. Yeah, you were you're like you guys are having a lot of.

SPEAKER_02

I was playing drums like it felt like hundreds of feet away from them.

SPEAKER_00

So I was like, they gotta get they gonna get you the full uh the full parching man outfit and pull it off.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, talk to us about how this goes on because anybody that knows the banana bowl, I mean it is it is entertaining, but it there's literally they are you know, they're pitching 90 miles per hour. Like they're still going on.

SPEAKER_03

It's competitive, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So yeah, and then and then all of a sudden sitting on Saturn comes in, they're so like, what direction do you have? Or or is a lot of it like eff it, we'll do it live. It's very on why we'll figure it out.

SPEAKER_04

Like they're like 10 minutes before, like you guys do this, we're like, all right, let's do it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and just how was the fan base reaction? I mean, the banana ball is massively huge, like I said. Talk to us how great that's been so far.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, their fans go from like kids to every like every age, every day. Yeah, and um, and a lot of our fans are kind of similar, and and we just kind of went out there and just had fun, and like they were everyone was vibing with it and uh trying to have yeah, good job.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you know, what's interesting about that is that our band has played that since we're based in San Diego, has played the park in the park from behind that big stage. Yeah, and it's amazing how suddenly you feel like Barry Manlow or Neil Diamond, like you just said, you got five year olds and you got 95 year olds. Did you are when during the the play, I've been to I've been to one of these things and it is a lot. Okay, even just to watch. Yeah, and it's super fun. But because there's a lot, it's constant music. Now, you guys are playing a lot of that music. It's not just stuff like Electric Avenue from 1984 or Mighty Mighty Boss Stones from from uh They played that yesterday, by the way.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

But the point is, how much are you actually playing?

SPEAKER_03

A lot.

SPEAKER_02

It's like so the way it works, at least this weekend, we did like a pre-show, like two hours before the game, and then after the show is everyone's pouring out, we kind of did like a longer set and the little song during the break.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. It sounds like so much fun. And yeah, like I said, I saw that footage and it looked like you guys were having a blast.

SPEAKER_04

It was it's equally fun and and terrifying.

SPEAKER_03

Like right before we were about to go on like our in-ears and stuff, because it's like all like you know, everybody goes south, right? Everything was just turned off, and I'm like, I'm like talking about it. I had the Britney mic, like yeah, I've never used one of those before Phil Collins, like the dude. They're like, Do you sound good? And they're like, I'm like, I can't hear anything. I'm like, I'm like trying to I'm like, turn my vocals up, and then like the guy's like sitting there, and I'm like, I thought my voice would be on the PA, and then I was anyway, if I sneezed everything, everyone would hear it.

SPEAKER_00

I've sung the National Anthem before, and there's like a 75-minute delay from when you leave on stage to what you hear.

TikTok Virality And Joe Jonas

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, when I strummed my guitar, I was like, I was like, oh my god. Oh, that's great.

SPEAKER_00

Can you guys talk about how you got how you guys got discovered?

SPEAKER_03

Um, well, okay, we were a band, like, I don't know, we've known each other since we were like 10 years old. Which makes it four years from now. Yeah, yeah. But um, but yeah, so during COVID, uh, we couldn't play live or anything, so we were just like, let's just post some videos of us on TikTok.

SPEAKER_02

Kind of like a joke at first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was a joke. And then the next thing we knew, like our video, I think it was like a sugar ray cover or something, like, was on the front page of uh of TikTok. Like the first thing when you open the app. We were like, what? And then Joe Jonas hit us up and was like Joe Jonas. Yeah. You know, split in the DMs.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you want to play some shows up. Did you believe it was him?

SPEAKER_01

No. No, I didn't. Which Sugar Ray song was it? Every morning. Every morning, I think. Every morning. Yeah, 90% sure. Did Mark McGrath hook him? He did. He researched too. Yeah, follow him. Yeah, he's that sounds like him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. He's a good guy, right? Oh yeah. We played fly yesterday. We like turned it on the fly.

SPEAKER_00

So when you but when this when this Jones Prothes happened, they do they DM you or come out? Yeah, they just, yeah, he's and you're like, this is not you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Kyle called me in the morning. I'm like, guys, he just DM'd us, and we all like, no way, this isn't real.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It was kind of how the banana ball thing happened, too. He just kind of, I just saw a DM and he was just like, hey, can I talk to you guys? And then this is Jesse. Yeah. Yeah, the yellow dude.

SPEAKER_05

By the way, he is an absolute genius, by the way. What he's been able to do, and like from a fan to the fans, that's really what he's all about. And and and he's created a monster, like you said. But isn't that so funny? Like, thank God somebody's actively checking your socials, by the way, right? Think about the opportunity. You would have lost a Joe Jonas interaction, the banana ball thing. But uh, you know, you were able to go on and how many shows did you play with the Jonas brothers? Yeah, ten.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Mexico and Texas.

SPEAKER_05

So is that terrifying also?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah. Very terrible. Really? I was gonna say, so what reason?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but tell us, tell us a little bit about. You guys must still be digesting that though, because I did it yesterday. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

There was so much happening. Yeah, I'm still just processing. Yeah, you just think that word in the field.

SPEAKER_05

Who's louder? The Joe the Jonas Brother fans or the uh the the all the kids from Banana Ball? They're both crazy.

SPEAKER_03

Bananaball. I couldn't even tell. I had in ears in. Yeah. Yeah. So nuts.

SPEAKER_00

When you guys toured with Jonas Brothers, and then of course it's 311. Yeah. And we're we're starting to tour with stuff, and I can tell you, even after you know, six months of this, I remember how horrible now the first show was or how bad it felt in conclusion. It gets better and better. Does it get you think this will get better also for you? Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I'm always nervous before we play, but once I'm up there, I'm like having a good time. But I don't think that'll ever go.

Why Their Sound Travels

SPEAKER_05

What do you think? You know, we have a lot of uh artists that watch this, we have a lot of fans that watch this and be uh and more. We're here on behind the scene. What do you think makes sitting on Saturn special or unique? Or why do you think these opportunities are coming to you?

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think we love just all sorts of genres. Like we don't ever play just one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if you see our Saturday, your alternative in Pogska Roth. We play it all.

SPEAKER_03

So we kind of like to just do a wide variety of things, and I guess it just kind of fits in different things.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we get the we get like a lot of opportunities because we can play like heavy stuff, yeah, softer stuff.

SPEAKER_05

I I kinda think I kind of love that because you know, now with like your Spotify and the fact that you can jump genres all over the cross uh all over the place. I feel like if you're limited to one genre, perhaps that could perhaps work against you as a newer band. Not like if you're like the boss or something who has like is a legacy and a legendary band. Yeah, we're gonna bury Manlow next week. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Don't stop doing that. Yeah, that's that's the perfect to do. Don't don't limit yourself or um you know, yeah, yeah. Or you'll end up like me, guys. Don't whatever you want. Well, hey, real quickly, what is your website, what's your instant, all that stuff if people listen up to it?

SPEAKER_00

Sitting on Saturn Band.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Sitting on Saturn.com.

SPEAKER_01

And hold you, tell us when you changed the name. Oh, that was entirely. About over a year, over a year ago.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we were called Sitting on Stacy. People are still like, Wait, you changed it? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And Stacy's mom got mad at you. Stacy's mom got mad at you because you were sitting on Stacy. Yeah, I think.

SPEAKER_00

By the way, point, don't you? And you and your videos are fantastic too. Thank you. And you got quite a following on social. So are you the director? Because I know your family's a Hollywood sort of.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, my yeah, I I I do like the videography and stuff for it, and we'll come up with it. He's got a director's chair, he's like, cut. Kyle, I need more emotion.

SPEAKER_04

Trevor.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah with feet. Not quite my tempo. Um, no, yeah, I'll I'll I'll just try to, yeah, I'll act in it and then also look at the finger.

SPEAKER_05

It's pretty DIY. We're just gonna do it.

SPEAKER_03

I was gonna say figure it out.

SPEAKER_05

One thing that I find out really cool about you is it is very DIY, what you've been able to do, and I feel like the more that a band can, an artist can can handle themselves, the easier things will be in the long run for them. Yeah, I feel that. And just being able to control as many aspects of the music and and more that you're able to do. So talk to us about the fact that you know you are sitting on sour, but also, you know, you are gonna be able to coconuts this year. Talk to us about you know how many games we're thinking, uh, experiences. I mean, dude, you guys are just dude, you're just an opening day. We've got a full season ahead of us.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think there's like 25 more games you're gonna play. Mainly along the Eastern.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna go to like Charleston and it's probably one of the best things we've ever been a part of, honestly. Like all the this is the how much people are like the joy that's coming from everybody, it's like so awesome to see. And like it makes everyone's day. It's a very unique experience.

SPEAKER_02

No other bands really do.

SPEAKER_03

And like at the end, everyone like sings, like uh, and uh Jesse, the guy at the yellow tuck. They'll like sign every like last autograph. He'll sit in the at the very last person leaves, like he'll sign their. And we're kind of the same way with like our fans and stuff, so it's cool. I'm like, wow, it's it's really cool.

Collaborations And Tour Lessons

SPEAKER_00

Can we talk about collabs? Um, we've collaborated a lot of the same. In fact, Hoyt and I are putting some stuff together, which uh which is super fun. I mean, uh just writing writing with someone with that much talent talking about you. But you've always worked with Rome and and Fat Mike from No FX, yeah. Um uh Pierre from a simple plan. Talk about those experiences.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we're actually playing with Pierre at um Warp Tour CMS.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, it's been cool to work with like yeah, Fat Mike and Pierre and all these guys really.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they've been our like idols for so long, and it's just like crazy to work with them.

SPEAKER_05

And just like has anybody given you a piece of advice, or have you learned anything whether it was the 311 tour, whether it was Jones Brothers? Like, did they might give you a piece of advice, or did you, you know, even when you were green starting out? What did you think musically?

SPEAKER_02

Like, we do take a lot of like we saw 311 in Vegas last weekend and we played like their pre-show. It was the funnel, one of the funnest things we've ever done. It was crazy. But like we noticed when they did their set, they play every genre of music too, and like their just keep coming back, keep coming back because they want to see these like at 311 today, what they call it, they like want to see the deep cuts.

SPEAKER_00

Well, what's interesting, I I got the opportunity to go on a surf trip with Nick Hexum and became nice friends with him. It's a really good guy and really supportive, loves you guys, but also uh uh they are he and his wife Nikki are the proprietors of SKP, the platform that you talk about that a little bit. It's a label and it's a platform, and it's sort of a marketing arm at the same time, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they've been really uh supportive of us. Like they they signed us um and just helped get our music across easier. Yeah, every nice thing. Yeah, they helped us.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's crazy. So you guys mind if I give you a little advice?

SPEAKER_03

I would love that. I'd love that.

SPEAKER_01

When it comes to taking advice, um take it from Nick from 311 before you take it from Fat Mike.

unknown

Okay?

SPEAKER_01

I love Fat Mike. That's just Dickie's advice. I love Fat Mike dearly, but when it comes to whatever Fat Mike says, I want you to listen.

unknown

Probably.

New Music And Where To Follow

SPEAKER_01

Don't jump at it. But if Nick says jump, then jump. You guys are awesome. I wish you the very, very best. What's next for you guys? The warped, right? Get the W's out, right? Warped on it.

SPEAKER_03

Lots of new music. We have lots of new music. We just recorded like 13 new songs. Oh, sick. We have the first three picked.

SPEAKER_00

He committed, and I'm gonna make him commit here to do to direct our video. Nice. Pressure's on. I want to put I want to put Sullivan on the Ed Sullivan show set. There we go.

SPEAKER_05

We gotta do it. We gotta do it. Let's make it happen. Let's make it happen. All right, well, best of luck to you guys.

SPEAKER_00

Sitting on Saturn, uh, of course, sitting on Saturn Music.com. Uh just sitting on Saturn.com.

SPEAKER_05

Perfect, yeah, across all the socials. And of course, we'll see you out on Warp Tour. You got Bay Fest coming as well, right? Bay Fest. Sully will be playing Bay Fest as well. So we're opening for you. There it is. Looks good. Look at that banana footage. I know that.

SPEAKER_00

I know those guys. They've also got banana footage up here coming up, I think, next week, because Chris, our Chris, our executive producer and uh director was there and was there. He actually took photos of you guys. There you guys are. There you go. What are you guys dancing on? We gotta get the sparks we gotta get on, brother.

SPEAKER_05

You gotta start working on your TikTok dances too, alright? Yeah, don't want to be talking about check it out, of course. Don't get on the ticket, people check it out. This is the behind the team, picture done, sticky dog and it's a three-up time. One display.
