From Phinextra Pro in Tampa, it's Sunday, July 12th, and I'm Rachel Anderson with What's On Tap for This Week? The coming days will be some of the busiest of the summer, packed with critical economic data, the official start of earnings season, and simmering geopolitical headlines that could sway markets at any moment. First, let's turn to the most unpredictable factor, the Middle East. The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran collapsed last week, sending oil prices higher and putting the risks of a wider conflict squarely back on investors' radar. While oil prices are still well below their peaks from earlier this year, the situation remains extremely fluid. Any further escalation could have an immediate impact on shipping, global supply chains, and energy prices, which feeds directly into inflation concerns. As one strategist noted, it's a very difficult environment to make long-term investment calls right now. Investors will be watching for any new developments out of the region. And speaking of inflation, on Tuesday we get the Consumer Price Index, or CPI report. This inflation reading is crucial because it will heavily influence the Federal Reserve's next move on interest rates. We're now under the leadership of new Fed Chairman Kevin Walsh, who has already signaled a more hawkish tone and just last week launched a major overhaul of the central bank by naming several high-profile task forces. All eyes will be on Chairman Walsh as he delivers his first monetary policy testimony before Congress this week. A hotter than expected inflation number could increase pressure on him and the Fed to consider a rate hike sooner rather than later. We'll also get the producer price index and new retail sales data, which will give us a clearer picture of both inflation pressures and the health of the American consumer. Over on Wall Street, second quarter earnings season officially kicks off, and as always, the big banks lead the charge. This week we'll hear from JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. Their reports will provide a vital look under the hood of the economy. We'll get insights on consumer spending through their credit card divisions, lending trends, and how corporate America is feeling. Expectations are high for this season, with analysts forecasting strong double-digit profit growth for the SP overall. Beyond the banks, we'll also get results from key names like Johnson Johnson, Netflix, BlackRock, and Taiwan Semiconductor, setting the tone for the weeks to come. So it's a week of cross currents. Geopolitical risk from Iran, critical inflation data that will shape the Fed's path, and the start of a pivotal earnings season. It's a trifecta of market moving events that will truly test the market's recent strength. And that's what's on tap for the week. I'm Rachel Anderson from FinExtra Pro, turning data into stories.
