Old Town South and true Batmare, they will put you in the dirt, so you better fast because they suck at the game and they're running out of breath.
SPEAKER_05Howdy, and welcome everybody to episode six of Running Out of Breath. The marathon, the the the place to get your marathon, listening ears on. I'm your host, Old Town South, and I am back again. We are back again with my good buddy True Batman444. We have played the whole weekend. We are recording this episode May the 17th, 2026. And we've had a whole weekend of gaming to kind of simmer on how everything went down and how our experiences was. And yeah, we got a uh we got a lot to talk about in this episode. This could be a banger right here. First, things first, we gotta give some shout-outs to some people. Running out of breath community, we appreciate you guys so much. And guess what? You guys came through, and we had two of our listeners finally come to our live Twitch streams. First and foremost, I would like to give a shout out to Atlas Forged.
SPEAKER_03Let's go, baby. Let's clap it up for Atlas Forged. Let's clap it up. Next, we would like to give a shout out to Wesley Pez. Let's go!
SPEAKER_05W's W's. We were Bat and I were doing a dual stream, I believe it was Friday, and Atlas Forged came over to Batstream first, introduced himself and said he was from the podcast. And then Wesley Pez came over to uh my live stream and said he was from the podcast. So we had two of our podcast fans come to our live streams in one night. And let me tell you, that was that was a crazy night as far as gameplay goes and streaming goes. But man, like after the dust settled, like that was so cool, man, to that was so cool to have you two come out. And and I said this in my stream, it was either Saturday or Friday that uh those two, you two, shout out to you. You will you got you will you two will be the first. We'll we'll always remember you were the first two that came to our live streams first. So we appreciate that very much. So Batman, I have teased this to you in our side conversations, but oh, let me say this to the audience. We got some fan mail. Bat, how weird is that? We have very weird. We have I won't say that again. We have fan mail.
SPEAKER_03We got fan mail.
SPEAKER_05And somebody, dude, took uh took the time, and they wrote a very heartfelt, detailed uh email. And oh, I should put my phone on silent, professional podcasters. Yeah, so man, I've I've I I I've said this is coming to you, but I actually haven't read it off to you. Are you ready? We're gonna do this live right here. Okay. We have some fad mail from Atlas Forged, and with his permission, here we go. We're gonna read the email. First things first, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a marathon podcast. I'm a 35-year-old try-hard. I ain't playing in any tournaments, but I love the journey of self-improvement and mentally uh diving into a game headfirst. Despite all of the YouTube media I have consumed throughout my gaming career, there is still something about a podcast format that feels so much more personal. It's like listening to a conversation between friends about a hobby you're all obsessing over. It's like radio station delivering a news update that you actually care about. That I I my my my heart's already warming up reading this. And being only audio really allows for the brain to surf the stream of consciousness as you listen. Surreal to say the least. So thank you for letting me sit at the table while two buds who care about Marathon as much as me talk about it on for for hours. I have been in t I have been, I believe he says, intimate with Bungie since Halo combat evolved when I got my first Xbox. Halo 2 really started by my competitive spirit. Halo 3 furthered it. Halo Reach told uh told me, I think either told me or taught me the missing pieces of lore I needed before diving into Destiny for eight years, dude. I'm re-leav I'm reliving I'm I'm lit living as I'm reading this my gaming memories through this email right now. After finally feeling left out, left out in the cold as a PvP driven player, I oh my god, I wandered into Apex for three years. At some point, the game got too ability abundant, so I moved into Rainbow Six Siege for a year. After that, quick fling quick flings until Arc Raiders. However, once again, I found myself in perhaps a little too cooperative and too little competitive of a community. So when Marathon launched, I was completely taken back by how OG bungee the game felt to me. So now, even though I have no friends to fire team with currently, that is from that email, and that fan mail was, I believe, from yours truly, Atlas Forge. Bat, we got clap it up again.
SPEAKER_03Clap it up for the fan mail, baby! That was so well written.
SPEAKER_05And it was I I got some I got some comments on this email. Dude, his journey is so similar to mine. HaloCon, like I remember saving my snack money, my fifth grade year of middle school. Like I per like for a for a year I didn't eat snacks, and I saved the dollar my mom gave me like every day and watched all the other kids eat their snacks. But buddy, I saved those dollars to buy my first Xbox. And why did I want an Xbox? For because of Halo Combat Evolved. I played that game and played that game, dude. That was for me, honestly, the game that really got me on first-person shooters. Um, so many memories, dude. I I could probably honestly sit here, bat, and talk 30 minutes just of my love for Halo Combat Evolved. Halo 2 was a banger. That is also, and I can tell we have the same journey because I'm 32 and and uh Atlas says he's 35, so it would make sense we have such this similar journey in video games. Halo 2 is where he stated he really found his competitive spirit. For me, it was Halo 3. Um, of course, him being three years older, that would kind of make sense that he discovered his love for PvP a little bit sooner than me. But Halo 3 is where I really discovered it. Um because I was like a freshman and sophomore in high school when I got into the Halo 3 PvP. We gotta and we gotta mention that he played Destiny for eight years. That's literally about how long me and you played Destiny. For me, I think I I almost played it for 10 full years, but I mean, dude, I literally I literally played Vanilla Destiny week one of launch. Like when that game came out in 2014, I was so excited about that game, dude. And I had no idea when I made, when I purchased that, that that would be like my main game for the next eight years. That's wild to really think about that, man. Like Destiny really had that impact on that many people. And the fact that he threw in, he had a little fling with Apex, so did I! It's so weird. It's like it's me. It's like it literally, I read this email, and it's like I'm reading my gaming history. Like I had a fling with Apex for about for about two years, where I played a lot of season one one through four is when I played a lot of Apex. And dude, that was my main game for a while. That is actually where I started streaming was Apex. Like that's that's the game that I started my streaming career on. Now he's got me with um Rainbow Six Siege. I've never played that game, but it's interesting uh that sort of ties into one of the points that we've talked about in previous episodes. Rainbow Six Siege, I don't think had a big launch. I I but I may be wrong on that. I might need I probably need to honestly, I probably should have done my homework before I made that statement. But I don't think Rainbow Six Siege had the best launch. But it's one of the biggest games now. It is proof that that it is I I can tell you you got something you want to say. It's oh I I'll end it, I'll end with it's proof that a game, if you give a game time to develop, you never know, you never know what it can turn into. I think his Rainbow Six Siege is probably our Overwatch, because that's another, like that's been his competitive game. I think for us, our other competitive game that we've played is Overwatch. We spent a lot of time, you know, on there. But that uh I can tell you you got something you want to say, man. Any thoughts on this email, bro?
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, it's it's kind of funny because I mean mine's not exactly the same as your guys's, but uh mine kind of follows the same same timeline at a certain point. Um I wasn't big into like Halo and stuff back then. Um I was a PlayStation kid. So I played like Need for Speed Carbon, yeah boy, Sonic Unleashed. Um and then we finally got into the game that started me on first-person shooters and uh multiplayer. That was um Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Yes. I have had a strong, strong love for Call of Duty for many, many years. Um I think it was probably Black Ops 4 that kind of ended that streak for me. I haven't really been interested in it since. Um I played when I got into Destiny 2, is when I started with the Destiny franchise. Um I was working with a buddy of mine, and he's like, hey, there's this game I want you to try if you play PlayStation. Um it's called Forsaken. And I watched the introduction to the to the storyline. And there's this weird, quirky robotic dude that is like just going around making jokes and killing all these enemies, and all of a sudden you find out something really, really bad happened. In my mind, I'm like, I don't know this guy, but I gotta go avenge him. Okay. That's all I gotta do. Alright. I don't care about anything else, I'm gonna go avenge this dude because he was funny and I liked him. I met him for five minutes. I liked him. Um that's kind of when I started. And then I also had a fling with Apex for quite a while. Um and then pretty much I played whatever Sammy wanted to play for the longest time. Um and then it was Overwatch. Uh Coco and Chase and uh Lonely.
SPEAKER_05Those guys. Shout out if yeah, I don't know if that I don't know if they listen to our content, but shout out Coco Mom and Lonely. Hope y'all are doing good out there. Hope y'all are doing well. Um that's awesome, Bat. Uh me and you, man. I mean, me and you of all of that group of friends, you know, a lot of great people in FYC. That sounds weird to say that. Oh that that takes me back. That takes me back, too, dude. A lot of great people, man. A lot of great people. Uh I hope they're all doing well, too. I actually would love to hear from a lot of them and to see how they are now. Um because it's been a hot minute since I've talked to a lot of those guys and gals. But uh, man, me and you, you know, we um me and you kicked it off really big, and we just, you know, we continued to play games. Like, like, like I I can't find the words right now, but like we took it further than destiny. Like, we started becoming friends and we started playing even other games together, you know, and here and here we are now. And here we are now. We want to do a literal meet and greet one day. Um so uh it yeah, man. It's it's as if we've literally been IRL friends, even though we've just been PlayStation virtual friends all these years. It really is as if we are IRL friends, and you live like right down the road from me. It's crazy. Um I keep up with you more than I do like some IRL friends.
SPEAKER_01I think we keep up with you more than I do the people that live inside of my house. And I'm not kidding.
SPEAKER_04Oh man, boy.
SPEAKER_01Like I could care less what they're doing. Oh man, I appreciate that, buddy.
SPEAKER_05Man, um, oh my god, dude. So we have a lot of news to talk about, marathon related. But I think, according, especially per that email confirms, I think some of our listeners enjoy our storytelling format. So let's keep that gravy train going. Bat, let's take this moment to talk a little bit about how our matches as a whole, you played when I get to you, you played a lot more than me over the week. So feel free to talk about some moments that happened over the week. If you just want to focus on when I was there, you go any direction you want to with that. So for me, um no major goals in marathon-wise, what was achieved. Matter of fact, it was actually kind of the Okay, I say, okay, hold on, hold on. I did VIP, I take that back. A goal was achieved. I VIP'd Arachne. So that's cool to get that finished. I don't remember what I got from it. It was some useful items, but uh, it wasn't nothing like, oh man, I really needed that, you know. But it was still good stuff. So happy to get that done. I'm actively pursuing MITA right now. I believe I'm level 25. I'm on truth, I'm on the truth and lies section, and I'm at three of six. And I'm 99% sure that's the last set. So if I complete those next three priority contracts, I'm done with my like I've completed the Mida contracts. I feel pretty confident in my ability. I will VIP Maida. Sekagucchi's gonna, that's gonna be the that's the one I'm not sure if I'm gonna get to it or not. I'm gonna try though before June, June the 2nd. Um, there was some cool things that was accomplished. I oh, by the way, let's go and announce this. Guess what? All of our listeners, we are now on iHeartRadio.
SPEAKER_06We're on iHeartRadio.
SPEAKER_05What is life? Uh, we have a dedicated YouTube channel. So, all of our listeners, please, if you're interested in checking out the YouTube channel, all of these episodes will be are currently posted on the YouTube. And I will also I already have two shorts posted on there. If you are interested in listening to us there, we would appreciate the support. Spread the word to an aunt, uncle, a friend, a cousin. We would also very much appreciate that. And dude, that I gotta tell you something. I posted a short. Now it came out a little clunky. I hate the frame rates of how this video turned out, but I posted a YouTube short of one of our outpost matches where I was just it's where I was going insane and I kept shouting, Everybody dies. It was that game. I posted a short from that that has already gotten like 95 views. What is life? That's that's crazy. That kind of is crazy. I posted that one, and then I posted another one. Uh you had logged off at this point. We got cued with this random, and then we befriended like all these rooks in Pinwheel, and I was trying to revive one of the rooks, and then our random blueberry teammate that we got paired with just as I was reviving the rook, he killed him in cold blood, and his his blood was on my hands.
SPEAKER_04Oh no. I don't know how to I still don't know how to feel about that. And he was talking to the guy, the guy said, like, this is the rook. He was like, please!
SPEAKER_05I hey, I can rest my head at night knowing I was trying to res him. I can't control what our random did. But Fallen just got beside himself with laughter. It was so funny. You can watch it, it's on the YouTube if you ever want to check it out. Um we did befriend Wilson. That was actually the second rook. I was gonna bring him into the fold because I want the carry XP, but our random teammate, he had other plans in mind. So he killed him in cold blood. But we did adopt another rook named Dylan, and Dylan, he tagged along with us for the whole match. Oh, jeez. So we were four players strong, baby. Oh man, it was uh that night was crazy. We fallen said he lost like 60k.
SPEAKER_07Jeez.
SPEAKER_05I law I lost about 20k. Uh I had really built up my stock and like I really truly had a lot to burn through in my in my vault. Now, times are getting hard now. Now I'm getting low on bat packs. I I have hard I have one purple shield left. I have like no cores. I have like no implants, so I am even beginning to hurt pretty bad now. So it's actually a good thing we're coming up on the end of the season and everything's just gonna wipe and reset because I'm hurting bats. I'm hurting bad. So I'm almost getting to the point to where like I'm fixing to just really start dishing out the cash. I'm gonna start dishing out the credits and I'm gonna start just buying implants, I'm gonna start buying shields, I'm gonna start buying backpacks. I'm just gonna start I don't care. I'm just gonna I'm at that point. We're we're getting to that point. We're gonna wipe anyway. So I'm just gonna start. Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye. So that um we had some highs. I'm gonna say something. I'm gonna I'm gonna give a little commentary here and then you take over. We it was either Friday, yeah, today's Sunday, so you didn't we did not play yesterday. I streamed a little bit yesterday, real late last night, but we played Friday. That Friday, if memory serves me right, was kind of filled with some highs and some lows. Um we had like that match where we lobby wiped and we did really good. Uh cryo runs kind of. I think I'll I'll need your help to jog my memory. I know it was another weekend of we didn't get out. Uh I remember, if memory serves me right, a team, our our first run in Cryo Archive Friday night, a hyper aggressive team with like 24 minutes left on the clock pushed us. And I was like, it happened, we it happened so fast, and my guard was let down so bad. Uh all I really remember is fallen saying, team team. I poke, I poked my head out. I was like on a catwalk, like a bridge or like a catwalk. It's kind of hard to describe where mine was. I immediately went down. I it was almost a situation like I almost couldn't even react to it. It happened so fast. So that game was uh that was a wipe, that was a bust, that was my free cryo kit run. Then after that is when we started staking. Uh I uh I but if the memory serves right, you brought you went pretty heavy, you brought in a lot of golds, I brought in a lot of purples, like I was pretty kitted out too. I don't remember, I know we died, but no, I do remember. Well, we died, but it was unfortunate how we died. I do remember now we ran out of time. It was actually a game where we did good. We killed the first team, we killed the one and only team we had to fight. And we were geared pretty good. We had some loot, but time ran out on us. I do remember now. So Crow Runs was crowd runs was a little, we only did two, but crowd runs was a little disappointing, and then from that point on we stayed away from perimeter. Thank God we stayed away from dire marsh, thank goodness. Um sorry, I didn't mean to say that for perimeter. Thank god we stayed away from dire marsh. Uh, and we just played outpost for the remainder of the night. Bat, any thoughts and feedback on Friday night?
SPEAKER_01Um, I officially hate cryo.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. Let's talk about it.
SPEAKER_01I hate it. Um that first run I took in my miseriah. I was pretty much purple all the way. Um that that team pushed from a single door. Only way they could get in. And none of us had time to react. Like none of us. Yeah. That is so frustrating to me. And you're you're not kidding. It happened so fast it wasn't even funny. You couldn't even. Like the first room where you're safe, and then we opened the the level one door and got killed in the next room. You're correct. That's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_05That is ridiculous. That's how high.
SPEAKER_01Like, I know that you can be pushed there, but that was ridiculous.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I completely was not because then the next game I asked the question, like, okay, are we now in the room? Because that happened so fast, and that's just unlucky that we went against that team on our first cryo run of the weekend. You know what I mean? Uh I remember asking, like, hey, are we now the second run? Hey, are we in a room where we can be pushed now? Because I I I didn't want that to happen again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um I had just, I think it was Thursday night, um hit level 100, and I I know it was on stream.
SPEAKER_03Awesome. Hey, W's, hey, hey, let's shout that up, man. Ws. W's W W's. Alright.
SPEAKER_01Notorious title, and then I got my all gold loadout that uh it comes with. Um I got the strider, and then I got a gold shield, which was my first one ever. Um so after the first run, I was like, are we going in? Like, are we going in in? Um and when we went in, I I went in with 30k. You did off the bat. And then we uh we killed that first team and we did really well getting like security clearance. Um we were navigating okay, and then as soon as we popped the X fill, uh we just got turned around because it's super easy to in cryo. The map is so confusing. Um and we ran out of time. So I lost all my stuff because of the timer.
SPEAKER_05I don't I don't know, I I don't know what feels wor I don't know still to this day, I don't know what feels worse. I don't know if it would have felt worse the way it happened, the way it actually happened. Like we we won, we we did what we had to do. We just couldn't figure out how to get out. We we got lost. Or or or we just immediately or we lose a heads up to a team. I don't know what feels worse.
SPEAKER_01The thing, so like the X-Fill that we called in, right as Fallen put his foot in the bubble to make it stay there, it disappeared. I forgot about that. So then we had to try to get to Final X-Fill, and we just did not have enough time to get there. The thing that irritates me is that with Final X-Fill, nobody gets anything that I dropped. That doesn't go back into the loot pool. Yeah, it's just gone.
SPEAKER_05It's just gone. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So 30,000 to the wind. I gutted me. Yeah, yeah. Gutted me. Do you think biggest loadout I'd ever taken into anywhere?
SPEAKER_05Oh my god, I was so pissed. No pun intended. Our podcast is called Running Out of Breath. Do you feel like that took the breath out of you for the night? That run right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, I was struggling pretty much after that. Um and I tried really hard to reel it back, but at some point I could just tell that like I my head was not in it, my heart wasn't in it, and I needed to go. So I I didn't pull like an Irish goodbye, I didn't just leave, but I had to tell them that I was getting off for the night, and I think they could tell I was fairly irritated. So it it didn't end on a good note for me, but I know that they kept going, and I think they had a pretty successful night the rest of the time, so I'm I'm okay. I just I I knew where my mind was going, and I had to get off for the night. And it'll just keep like it will keep snowballing from there.
SPEAKER_05Um atlas came into Atlas came into my chat afterwards, and he was a little worried that he had said something. By the way, I keep saying he, I don't know if this is a dude or a chick, so I'm just gonna say Atlas. Um hey, did he say? Hang on, I need to go back to the No, I don't know. He just said he's 35. Anyway, Atlas was was was worried you were you were mad at them, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no. I was like, I promise you he I I could tell Bat was just tapped out for the night. It was just one of those nights. We all have them, and I I promise you you're good. And I said, I promise you, Batman wants you to come back to his chat.
SPEAKER_01There's something else that I need to probably say. I had just come off of 12 hours of working.
SPEAKER_05Oh, God bless you, man.
SPEAKER_01So I was tired, thoroughly irritated by that point because I was also extremely tired. This was like 14 hours after I I had like woken up and taken my first breath for the day. Yes. And I was working non-stop pretty much for those 12 hours, so I was very tired. And it just was not going my way.
SPEAKER_05We put that what everybody I'm gonna kind of repeat what he just said. When we say like we are the casual gamers, we re we represent the casual base, we mean it. You just heard it yourself. My boy Bat was coming off a 12, baby. And if anybody's worked a 12 before, especially if your job is physical, you're tired. You're tired. I I don't care who you are. You're you're you're to some degree tired when you come off a 12. And Bat, kudos to you for giving it your best. Um, on that night. Kudos to you for sticking your head down and giving it your best, even when the breaks wasn't going our way. It's okay, Bat. I'm gonna sit here say live on the podcast, please don't be too hard on yourself. Because you know what? The next time we play, that could easily be me. I could be the one that's just not having a good night. I could be the one that is falling on my face, and I'm the one getting constantly downed, constantly picked. I'm I could be the one constantly setting my team in a 2v3. You know what I mean? Like it could so easily be me. And I hear the bottom of my heart mean that. So don't be hard on yourself, buddy. This game, we love it, but you know, at its state right now, it's a competitive game. This is a competitive game. This game is not for the uh not always for the faint of heart. You've got to, you've got to be able, you can't be just a PVE only person at the state of the game right now. Keyword right now, May 17th, 2026. If you're just a PVE only person, you're not gonna survive in this game. You've got to be able to PvP. You've got to be able to. Um and with that comes 50-50s. And some nights are just gonna be tougher than others. But I'm proud of you, bat. Uh that that's good of you for knowing your limits, knowing that, hey, God, it the brakes are just not going my way. I'm fixing to start getting really frustrated on stream. That's good for you for just knowing I just need to call it a night. I'm tired. I just gotta call it a night. Nothing wrong with that, buddy. Yeah, nothing wrong with that.
SPEAKER_01Yep, and that was that was just the point I was at. I gotta go.
SPEAKER_05I gotta watch some anime and just call it a night.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I dude, I'm not kidding. I I shut off my PlayStation. I crawled into bed. I was so tired. Dang, man. Um because the the place that I'm helping at right now, um they have two people working, and it's one of them is not a driver. Like they don't have a driver up there. Yeah. So I'm going up there and I'm having to figure out all of this stuff in order to get them caught up. And then by the time I'm back there again, it's the same exact thing. And it never ends.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05It's bad. They need help. They need they get some more hires on. Uh yeah, desperately. Desperately. Yeah. That's one of the most frustrating uh we won't go we won't get too far into a tangent. That's the most one of the frustrating things about a job is when you've work when you work at a place and they uh you know they need help. You know they need to add another person, and extra workload is put on you, and especially if you're not being compensated for it, they're just saying, like, hey, we just just go do this. You know what I mean? You know what I mean. Whether that's probably not the best way to say it, but yeah, yeah, yeah. I I've been in shoes kind of like that before with previous jobs. Well, all right. Uh Bat, um, one more thing. Uh hopefully we can change your mind on cryo. Uh, but if that continues to be your opinion and you, you know, you cryo turns into a map you don't like, that's that's okay because I mean, you know, it is it's the end game content, and it is where the sweatiest of the sweats are gonna be. And I really I'm gonna say this to boost your morale a little bit. We didn't get killed by another team that run. I mean, we k we did what we had to do. We did not die to the ads, we did not put we we positioned correctly, we did everything right. We just didn't ex-fill correctly. We just got turned. I mean, fall, he was there. He was right. I mean, the team probably would have been a second if we would have been a second faster. We X-fill that game. And the story is compl and the and honestly, your opinion and the story is probably completely different. That night might even be completely different if we X fill that game.
SPEAKER_01Like, you know, probably true.
SPEAKER_05Um I tell you what, I still where I am on the other side of the coin is I do like cryo. Now, I hate that cry, you know, cryo kind of it kind of drains the bank, but I actually always have fun when we go in there. But I can also see it from your side of the coin that hurt losing that much. Um but buddy, I'm here with you and we will we will try to get that back for you the best we can. Uh and we ain't done. We got we got unfinished, we got unfinished business with cryo. We still got vaults to do. By the way, spoiler alert, uh when I put we got out, I got out with more keys. So I I I can now contribute to the vault key runs. It ain't just now on you and Fawn. Like, I've got a Vault 1 key, I've got a Vault 2 key, I've got a Vault 3 key, I think. Like I can help contribute now to it. So hopefully we can kind of we can kind of boost the morale a bit uh this weekend with our cryo runs. I still hate Dire Marsh.
SPEAKER_01That ain't changing. There's no question there.
SPEAKER_05Still hate Dire Marsh. Alright. So we have free balled, which we and you are, that's what we do best. We have free balled for 37 minutes, so let's let's dive into the notes we have. Okay. The pre-reset intel, active until June the second. Bungie is letting the loop flow before the grand wipe. Get in there and burn your currency, the note says. Uh, warden rework. Now, this is this is not a permanent change. I think this is just a temporary change they're doing right now as we're coming on the end of season one. All wardens now drop guaranteed cryo keys, but their spawn points are completely randomized across the map to destroy the camping meta. I I'm gonna say something real quick on that. We in the stream last night, we ran into the toxic warden like three of the four runs. He was always at the same place. He did not change. I cannot speak for the ghost warden, and I cannot speak for the scorch warden, but the toxic warden was always at that same spot. Uh UESC Escalation, watch the skies at extraction, drop ships. I haven't seen this, by the way. What I'm about to say. Dropships are now deploying an aggressive high mobility mystery enemy unit. Have you seen this, Bat?
SPEAKER_01No, I'm I'm gonna go ahead and guess that that stuff probably isn't active until probably today. Interesting.
SPEAKER_05Today, huh?
SPEAKER_01Because I saw something that was being activated on the 17th. Oh, okay. And I'm guessing that it all kind of came in at the same time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05How was that? Well, the next little bullet point I have here in here says the final fire sale. Vendor prices for all legendary gear are slashed by 50%. Have you noticed this yet?
SPEAKER_01I say I just went into the armory like a little bit ago, and I'm guessing that is it the legendary, the purples. I'm guessing it's the golds. I am I'm gonna say that that's not active yet.
SPEAKER_05I I'm gonna I'm gonna confirm that too. I'm gonna say that is not active. Now I am just getting to the point in my marathon career where I'm I have access to that. So I can't speak on a month ago what were the prices for like head for pristine. Let's just say gold, because I can't remember. It's either pr I think it's prestige. Prestige. Prestige gold implants. Uh I cannot confirm what the prices were. But I think that's coming. So but it's probably just not active yet. So we'll uh we will for all the listeners tell us in the comment section if we're wrong about this and if you guys have uh any information on the fire sale, the prices being slashed by 50%, and also tell us what you know about the uh this this watch the sky new enemy from the UESC escalation. So uh daily resupply. Your first. This is interesting right here because I haven't noticed this either. Daily resupply, your successful extraction of the day drops three free cryo starter kits and ten year inventory. Use them or lose them. I don't know about that. I haven't noticed that either.
SPEAKER_01So I'm thinking I haven't played at all today.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know. Uh I I have not played either today, so that's uh something also I think we're just gonna have to uh keep our keep our eyes on. I do know they're giving us like every like week or weekend a one free cryo, one free go at cryo, which I'm greatly appreciative of that. And I I learned uh you can use that anywhere. It's actually not just it's not locked to cryo because I think Fallen took it into like uh an outpost run one time. I'm like, oh, didn't know you could do that. So uh this part's gonna be kind of fun right here. The state of marathon breakdown. Game director Joe Ziegler uh candidly addressed the community after analyzing three months of player data from season one. He gave massive shout out to the core community, but dropped some incredibly honest truth bombs about how punishing and overwhelming the game can feel for the average runner. The death spiral reality check. Ziegler expressively called out the steep learning curve for regular players, stating, it's easy to hit a wall if you're not spending lots of time and don't have a consistent crew, or are not super skilled, matches can feel like a death spiral for some players. Ziegler further acknowledged that marathon can be a massive hurdle to learn. After a short tutorial, you are thrown directly into the fire, you're forced to learn complex concepts, navigated cluster cluttered screens, filtered through mountains of loot, and build muscle memory with unforgiving mechanics. All in a hostile environment where other players are actively hunting you to take your hard-earned stuff. And then I'm gonna I'm sure. It is true. Um get ready to be be getting your thoughts together. I'm gonna read one more little paragraph here. Uh the real player experience, you kit up, and this is also from that blog, you kit up, you go in, and you die immediately to a spawn rush, which has happened to us several times, or someone gets the jump on you while you're just trying to loot. Faction progress becomes a massive slog. You struggle to get materials and credits out safely just to upgrade, rarely escaping that loot in the precious few hours you have to play every week. The endgame of cryo can feel miles away while you inch forward, and trying to do it solo makes it ten times harder. I said a lot right there, and that is all from a uh a blog post, I believe, was from uh that was from Bungie, and that was like a blog post from Ziegler. If my sources are correct with this. Uh it's when I hear all of that, uh, there's a lot of truth in that. I think Batman, I don't think I know Bungie is aware of some of the pain points in Marathon right now, particularly pertaining to like a new player experience and trying to get a more casual player that don't PvP a lot into Marathon. When I read this, I r I what I think in my head is Ziegler saying, Hey, we see you. And we are gonna do our best to add things to Marathon to bring more players in and to make the experience funner and easier for you. I've said it once.
SPEAKER_01I'll um I think I lost you. Um while he tries to figure that out.
SPEAKER_05Um As as my headset cuts off, can you hear me?
SPEAKER_07Yep.
SPEAKER_05I said it once and then I went quiet. That hey, heads up, if that happens again, keep it the show goes on. Keep it going. Gotcha. Keep it going if that happens. Um I've said it once, I'll say it again. I am just I I think a lot of good is coming to this game. I think there's a lot to get excited about. This game is far from this this game is gonna is it's going to be developed. It's going to get it the the chances are it's going to get better. It's just going to h it's a year from now. Okay, okay, let me just let me just say it this way. This I feel positive this is going to be a better game May 17th, 2027, than it is May 17th, 2026, as of this recording. What do you think about that? What do you think about any of that I said and what Z Glow said?
SPEAKER_01Um I agree. I think that um with the um past three months um of actively playing this game um and seeing what Bungie and the developers are doing to you know correct to do like corrective measures um within the game of the major points that the community has spoken out about, um the multiple different um game mode tests that they've done, um the stuff that they have planned that I've heard about um all sounds fantastic. I have heard other people talk um in YouTube videos and stuff, pretty much saying a lot of the same things that we have. Um even kind of bringing the same ideas to the table. So even if they don't hear it from you know our podcast or through our Twitch streams or whatever, um maybe some of those ideas that we've thrown forward are actually getting out there to be introduced into the game.
SPEAKER_05Or like other or like other people are they're they're they're on the same wave wavelength as me and you are.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Um I had even heard somebody talking about the uh like the background story missions, like with the different shells, which is something I had brought into one of the podcasts previously. Yeah. Um I think that'd be fun. Just have like a little little story mission you can go in and play if you wanna take a break. Um the the death spiral. Um pretty much that was me Friday after a 12 hour shift.
SPEAKER_05Um he's cooking, he's keep going, he's cooking.
SPEAKER_01When when I say that I I'm a level 100, I'm I'm still not a sweat. But I have had the time that I've put into the game. Um it's currently 155 hours, I'm level 100. I still get destroyed sometimes. Um do I. But there's other days where I can't be touched. Unfortunately, Friday was just just one of the nights where I was not not with it at all. Yeah. Um and it just it kept going. So I did what I thought was the smartest decision. I got off for the night. Um that was my answer to the spiral.
SPEAKER_05I I have I have also talked about things talking uh talking about the sp the the death spiral that we have um that we have we the folks talking talking about the death spiral, we have mentioned other things in other episodes. I I feel to soften the blow. I've made the joke. Bungie, come please come down, please come down on your five on your bio lens prices. Um we joke about it in the moment, but like I'm actually being serious when I say that. Like, you got it, Bungie. Come down on your prices or make biolens, make enzyme uh runner shell, make enzyme replicators, make those uh either help out the casuals a little bit. And I understand when you do that, the rich is gonna get richer, the sweats will reap that. I think my counter argument is the sweats are gonna sweat.
SPEAKER_01Sweats are always gonna sweat. Johnny Johnny But me having a chance to get those upgrades to handle those sweats. Way better in my opinion.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. It gives a little chance to when we meet Johnny 40 hours sweat on the game a week in cryo archive, we got a shot to fight him back. Johnny 40 hours a week is gonna get his bio lens seeds. He's gonna get his, he's gonna get his. Um and I have I and I I I'm still interested in in the in the economy, the barter, uh like a like a little bit different look on the economy system. Like, hey, I have I need I I just need two biolin seeds, but I've got but I have way too many enzyme replicators. Are we interested? Can can we do a trade? Can we can I I'm I'm will I'm willing to pay more for just those two biolin seeds because I need them really bad. I'm willing to give up other things in in greater qu quantity. Um make them easier to find. You know, like the thing, and I think in that blog, I think they're thinking about things. I think they're they're gonna try to soften the blow with some things in it. Quite frankly, I can't wait to see what they do. Uh as far as like PvP, the death spiral, we're just gonna have to see. I know one thing they could really help us out in dire marsh if they take away six, if if they if they bump it down a team. To my knowledge, it's still six teams. To my knowledge, if they make it five teams, that'll help. But I really think they're gonna try. I really do. And I I think they they see the pain points with the game right now. Because this game, extraction shooters are by nature naughty. They're naughty by nature, they're just they're hardcore by nature, and you really do. And I think, by the way, shout out to you, Bat. I think you've got you've grown a lot with this and you've gotten better at this. Um you really have to make peace with. You're just gonna lose things you like sometimes. Unless you're Johnny 40 hours of sweat a week, and you've got a vault full of gold because nobody can touch you, you know, for the guys like you and I, we have to just make peace with. We're the underdogs, and we're just gonna get outplayed and we're gonna lose things sometimes. But like Fallen said, if we can get into that mindset of just enjoying the process and enjoying the journey, like we do, like I think we do do a good job of. We aka this podcast, we tell the stories of how how it went for us. Yeah, that's that's that's where the really fun in this game can come into. I just I love the gameplay. And spoil alert, I think they're working on a PvE Mobat. And dude, we talked about that a while back. Yeah. We we I I I we might have been some of the first to say that. Like, hey, we're in I'm interested in a i if they're worried, if if everybody's so tore up over the numbers, okay. Well, hey bungee, maybe we could do some look, let's provide some ideas to maybe help get some people over here. Let's let's let's talk a little PVE. I'm for it. I think people feel different people feel different types of way about that, but I'm all for because uh the week is is weird for me. Like the weekend is where I get the ball out with you guys, where I get to sweat out to the best of my ability and just ball out with you guys, especially when when everybody's gone to sleep for the night. Through the week is in when I'm working, I just don't have a lot of time, so I would be really interested in like that 30 minutes to an hour that I have, and even in then, I can't usually take it super seriously. I would love to turn my brain off and have like a little bit of a some kind of PVE mode to fall back on where I can still I'm about to let me cook, let me cook, here we go, let me cook. Give me some kind of fun, even if it's in rotation, I'm cool with that, I'm cool with that, if even if it's not always there, like some kind of little PVE mode where I can turn my brain off, I can practice with some guns that I haven't practiced with before, and that I can just I can I can beat up on some bots, I might can meet some new people, and I can, here we go, I can use that PVE mode to gear up, to get some bullet get gather up some heavy ammo, gather up some much needed resources, and get ready to ball out with you guys on the weekend and play outpost and play cryo archive, god forbid dire marsh when the contracts make us go there. What you think about that?
SPEAKER_01I like it. Um I think we've talked about you know, like just creating a a completely different map, even for that. Um I think you know, something that Bungie has always done, you know, I think fairly well in the past. I mean it's kept him in business this long, um, is doing something that's repeatable um and having a different chance to get something. Um they've got Raids, they've got you know Gambit and Destiny, they've got um the Grandmaster Nightfalls. You know even if it's something that you know I want to grind because it's got a zero uh four percent chance to drop uh prestige loot at the end of the run. I do that in a heartbeat. I went and did the math the other day, and I can tell you it's still the same math because I have an X filled with one. At level 100, I still need fifty-seven biolens seeds to get all of the upgrades that just pertain to Biolin seeds. I've had four the entire time that I've played this game, and we've had a lot of successful outposts.
SPEAKER_05We've had some good runs too. It ain't like we're just getting run over uh with the mocked with by the pay smacked by the pavement every single match. We have good runs where we are the team to beat, and we are the team that gets into pinwheel, we are the team that takes everything. I can't hardly find some of these resources, dude.
SPEAKER_01It's it's bad. And even like when they have the the percentages up, well now all these people are going to the same place looking for the same thing, and now your fights are harder. It's great, but dude, I'm telling when I added up 57 at level 100, it just broke my heart. Because I really feel you know how we discovered it.
SPEAKER_05I already know what you're gonna say. Because we know we're not gonna get there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's two weeks left.
SPEAKER_05There's two weeks. We're just not gonna make it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, but you know how we discovered that there's like the decon missions that you can use the white salvage for? Yes. Yeah, uh so you were talking about the violin seed, and we've talked about this in the past, um, where you turn in like you know, 80 of the biomass, and then that turns into something else that's white or green, and then that to blue, to then that's purple. So anytime that you're in an area that has violin seed, that's also gonna be the place that delivers biomass. So if I'm going in on a solo run with a you know, green backpack, I had a run the other day, I came out with 47 diodes. Yeah. I'll do that eight times and then I'll trade in for a biolens. See what I mean? I I'd be willing to bet that it's a good one. There are ways that I think they can work around it to make it a little bit more accessible. Now I understand that a game is supposed to be challenging, but I'm level 100. I've got 155 hours in the game in three months. How do I not have all of the upgrades?
SPEAKER_05How do you at least you could even dial that back? How do you at not have more biolin seeds?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And it's it I mean, it could be argued that I'm not going to those areas as much. But even if I kill a team that came out of that area, they never have them. Yeah, I hardly ever see it. So it's I I don't know if they want people to just play this game eight hours a day. But I can't do it. Yeah. So um I would appreciate um, you know, like that sell up system, you know, starting with a big number at the bottom to get to one of the purples at the top.
SPEAKER_05I think I'm fine with that. I think Ziegler sees it. I think that blog is we see you. We bat Old Town South, I see you. You nerds.
SPEAKER_03Like we I see. I want to be able to do this. I'm gonna try to help guys like you that. Thank you, thank you, Ziegler. Thank you, thank you clapping up for Ziggler. He got a backs, man. He got he's got he's got he's got our backs.
SPEAKER_01But I really do see the the direction that this game is going, and it it is exciting. Um I can't wait to see what happens a second.
SPEAKER_05I mean, they got they got their foots on the gas. I mean, I want to point this out. Like, for the people that have a bad taste in their mouth for bungee, that was from the destiny community. That has not been the ex- I'm gonna I'm gonna say this. And I feel you on that. I feel you. Like, I remember the immortal meta. I remember all these metas and these things that was rough in Destiny. That has not been now the get the game ain't perfect. Of course. Of course the game's not perfect. Of course there's work to be done. But what the It's three months old. It's three months old.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's I mean, it's a baby. The game's a baby. Have you ever had a perfect baby three months old? Standing up, walking around, talking to you, doing calculus? No. No. Give it time. Give it time.
SPEAKER_05Let the let the baby grow up. Let the baby develop. The community, the community, the community spoke about the wet the WSTR. Patched and balanced. The community spoke out about the recon class being underwhelming, patched and buffed. The community spoke out about grenade spamming and bubble spamming. Patched. Uh focus back on gameplay. I got three receipts right there. And that was all within three months, and that was all within like a very short time.
SPEAKER_01I I want to say it was less than like two weeks for each of those to where they became like a serious issue, and multiple people were speaking out, and Bungie said, Done.
SPEAKER_05Do you remember like we were having those weeks where like, okay, we're at we're at update 1.0.6. Oh, look, now next week we're at update 1.0.6.1. 1.0 point.2. Like they were just they were back to back. They were back to back. They were dishing them out.
SPEAKER_01And we played this game for what, a month before we started doing the podcast? Yes. So I mean, there was stuff even being worked on at that time.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_01Um because I I don't know, was duos over before we started the podcast, or maybe it was kind of at the tail end of it? I believe the tail end. Okay. Um, because one of the hard parts was finding that third person.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All I was gonna say, sorry I interrupt you, all I was gonna say is because I don't think we've had an episode where we we talked about here's how Friday night went in our duo experience.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. Um, but I mean one of the hard parts in the beginning was was having that third person to go in with. So you were always loading in with a random, and it was gonna be that they were gonna be running a sponsored kit, or you two were gonna be running a sponsored kit and they'd be kidding. It was it just never messed up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or that other person just wanted to do contracts, or that person wanted nothing to do with contracts, or you'd get one POI done and that guy wanted to ex-fill, and then you were just a duo.
SPEAKER_05If you are not on the mic, if you're not on the mic, if nobody else is hard on the mic, it's um it's it's especially when you get into those later tiers of those priority contracts, it's rough. It's rough. Rough, rough, rough, rough. That's why I think some people resort to solo queuing in the solo playlist. It's ratty, is almost as ratty and unfun for me as that experience is. You almost have to do that because if you're not talking to people or your friends, it's hard to do those priority contracts if nobody's saying anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so they introduced that duo, and then it went through the rotation of the different maps, and that was a lot of fun. I actually wish they would bring it back. Because, you know, there's been a couple nights where like if I got on, you got on, Fallen got on, and then Madness wanted to play. That's difficult. Right. Yeah, you but then we could run two two manns.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I I and spoiler alert, uh, it is coming back.
unknownUh
SPEAKER_05They have already confirmed Duos is. I think Duos was a pretty big hit. And it felt good. I liked it. Because it didn't feel as rough as Solo. It's still not raggy like Solos is, but you still have that one other teammate to help you with all the PVE, because the PVE are such a high threat. I thought Duos was a banger, and I'm kind of surprised it didn't stick around as long as it did, but it I am happy to hear it's coming back. Speaking of season two, actually, I want to say this because I've got season two notes right here. Because if I don't say this right now, I will not say it. Because that's the thing that bugs me. It's when I always go back and I re-listen to our episodes, and it always kills me like when I go, squirrel, and like I'm about to say something big, and I just squirrel my brain off and I talk about something else, and I don't even say the thing I wanted to say. Here is that moment. Here is the thing I want to say. Another YouTuber, I'm gonna give him a shout-out, Jay Bowen Demand. Uh he had a he dropped a video not long ago where he basically was talking about again that me and you, we said it first. We said it first. I think we were the one I feel like we were the ones talking about this first, but it was nice to hear somebody with a with a bit with a lot bigger platform than you and I confirm another thing that Win You said. He dropped the video where he was basically like, I have never played a game where the community is so positive and everybody is so everybody's just together, and how the nice people that he is ringing across in his matches, that's so cool, dude, for somebody with a lot bigger platform to also confirm the same thing that me and you said on episode one and episode two. Like, people, I like marathon community, all of our our cult, cult the cult of running out of breath, keep spreading the good news, keep spreading the light uh amongst other players. Let's keep this thing going because the marathon community is awesome. I mean, the I made another friend last night. I made, I didn't even tell you that bad. I made another friend last night through this game. Um, and dude, there's even been moments where you said this before. There's even been most of time it happens during the week where I'm just I've only got like 20 minutes to play, 30 minutes to play. Sometimes it's like it's on my lunch. Like sometimes I'll get in like one game on my lunch break. Um like uh but um what was I gonna say? Yeah. I've even had games where like somebody was talking, like I was not talking, somebody was talking, and they were like so nice. And the game ends, I'm like, why didn't I say something to that person? That person was like really cool. Why didn't I say something? Um shout out to the marathon community. Please keep it going. Keep this pot, keep this teamwork mindset going. Continue to be that player that you wish other players treat how other players treat I'm not saying this right. Be the player, be the player that and act towards others how you would want them to act towards you. Keep being that player. Our experience has been so positive, and I can't wait that to start like the fan mail we're getting and people want to come play with. I can't wait to start having nights where we play with with viewers and listeners to the podcast. Like, how fun is that gonna be? Who cares if we're losing? Obviously, it's gonna be rougher for losing, but like still, like, like we are going to do that. People, if you are interested in ever playing with us, you can um you can like we have like basically you can you you can send us whispers on Twitch, comment on the YouTube. You can send us fan mail. I believe it's through like Buzz Sprout. Uh you might can even say us, like you, you might can even send us fan mail through like maybe it's like Apple Podcasts. I actually need to ask him how he was able to send me fan mail. I actually need to ask ask uh Atlas that. But anyhow, um there's a way because I received it. There is a way. But there are multiple at there are now multiple avenues. You can comment on any of our podcasts, come over to the YouTube, send us a whisper on Twitch. There are multiple avenues to get in touch with me and Batman if you ever want to join us on for an episode of Running Out of Breath. If you want to play with, if you want to set, we will honor it. If you say, hey, I would like to play with you guys next Friday at 7 o'clock. As long as we are able to get on, like we will honor that. And we will prioritize you and we will run some matches with you. We will honor that. Uh can't wait to do stuff like that. So woo! Uh blah, blah, blah, blah. That's what I wanted to say. That is what I wanted to say. So, new content teasers coming week of May 25th. Before season two officially drops on June the second, Bungie is doing a deep dive into the immediate content next week. So I'm assuming the week of May 25th. Uh, don't know exactly which day, though. Uh, the new Matt variant, Nightmarsh. I'm just gonna take a breath. Nightmarsh. Hey, I'll be okay. Uh a pitch black atmosphere spin on the dire marsh zone, a new runner shell sentinel, a shell built heavily around defense and survivability. Oh, babe. We knew that was coming because we knew how attainable it was to send another runner shell immediately down the pipe. Like I like I knew it was only a matter of time, most likely in season two when we got to do the runner shell. So I'm not surprised at all. We're already getting a new runner shell. Back, any before I go into the final segment, any any thoughts on uh the teasers coming next week?
SPEAKER_01Um it is kind of nice to see that they they're pushing that new shell already. Um, kind of considering that during the beta, the thief wasn't available. And so she was kind of like the first introduced shell to the game. Um I think that'll be a really interesting character to see. I don't know if it'll be really like my play style, but um I'll probably end up trying them out just to kind of see what they're like and you know what I need to do to face off against them. Um Nightmarsh, I am super excited about. Interesting! Okay, not what I thought you was gonna say. Um I mean, nine times out of ten on dire, and I'm not kidding you, it is the environment killing me. The glint, or the fact that I can't see those little yellow death plants. The fart yes. Those are probably gonna be easier to spot in the dark as they glow. The tick nests are gonna glow. Like, I think the only thing that would be really bad is like if runner shells seriously like blend into the map on dark, because I know that there's a lot of dark skins that we've been collecting. Yeah. That's the only part that I think would hurt me more, but I would much rather have it be that than me trying to look down the site on my gun and just see yellow. Or just see fog. Yeah. Like it's it's horrible the way it is right now.
SPEAKER_05Question. Do you think the fog and the mist is still gonna be there in Nightmarsh?
SPEAKER_01From the little bit of teasers that I've seen, if they I don't think the glare's gonna be a thing at all. I think that is just because it was daytime. The fog could be a different situation, but I don't think it's gonna be as bad because I think the glare was adding so much to the fog in its in its like render distance. Yeah. If that makes sense. No, it does. So like even if it's darker, like maybe we'll be able to see shadows better through it. That would be cool. Um, but I mean, obviously we'll just have to wait to see, but that's my hopes for it, and I think it's gonna be a big change.
SPEAKER_05As of the state of the game right now, May 17, 2026, thermals are very hard to come by. They have significantly made it more difficult to come across thermals. Thermals will yet again be king. It sounds like to me, thermals will be king again in Nightmarsh.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it'll be fine if I can get my hands on one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05If they're super rare, we're not gonna have to worry about it. It's just gonna be like one of those situations. Hey, like, unlucky, that guy has a an outland with a thermal. Yeah, and he sniped me from 200 meters away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, unlucky. It's gonna be purple unless they bring the blues back, which I don't see it happening. So honestly, good on that guy for having a purple outland. Good on that guy.
SPEAKER_05Good on Johnny, Johnny 40 hours sway. Good on him.
SPEAKER_01Um Just remember, if I get close to you and I have a bully, you're dead to rights.
SPEAKER_05That's the spirit, my friend. The one we're gonna enter our final segment of this uh of this episode, the one year outlook, seasons two to five roadmap. Ziegler stated that the team wants to look more directly at our plans and goals for the next year. Here's the Pacific breakdown he provided for each upcoming season that I'm excited about this. Season two, so in the seeds. That is not the name of the season. That's just what I got in my notes. That is not, I repeat, that is not the name of the season. That is Old Town South's dinky notes. Season two is on the horizon.
SPEAKER_01You want official stuff? Go to the bungee Reddit.
SPEAKER_05Please go to bungee.net for official things.
SPEAKER_03Don't take my word for it.
SPEAKER_05Season two is on the horizon, and we'll be sowing the seeds for a lot of our future plans via new content such as the Sentinel and Nightmarsh systems, and experiments around new play modes that may become permanent in the future. Specifics include a revamp, a revamp acquiring shell stats, increased, oh baby, increased progression rate. I should have read that. I should have read this sooner. This might should have been segment one. Uh increased progression rates for faction and runner levels. W's. There you go. Uh a duo. I should I'm an idiot that I should have read this first. Uh, duos rotating Q W's. An expanded max vault space, W's. I'm an idiot. He also noted they will test a mode heavy on PvE with a light touch of PvP, followed by a second experimental mode that removes PvP entirely. Whoa! Whoa!
SPEAKER_01Dude. I just thought of something.
SPEAKER_05What if they start making all the all the marathon haters need to chill out because interesting things are coming in season two? What if they put Gambit in Marathon? Oh god, Gambit. It's what's that guy's name? What's his name?
SPEAKER_03And you just hear him walk up, alright, alright, alright. Who is that guy?
SPEAKER_01Is it the drifter?
SPEAKER_03The drifter. The drifter's coming to marathon.
SPEAKER_01But no, I was just thinking about it. What if they do like where it's just two teams on a map? And like your goal is to kill the big guy first.
SPEAKER_05I'm down. I am a huge fan of that would be wicked. I'm a huge fan of this experiment playtests they're doing. And you can s it's endless. The possibilities, the things they can experiment with are just endless.
SPEAKER_01So, like, what if the map was cut in half by like a barrier and you can't interact with the other team? But like every you know, time frame or whatever, there's like a portal that opens, and then you can jump over to the other side and kill the other team.
SPEAKER_05I mean, yeah, there's I mean, yeah, gambit JK Gambit. Um I never even thought about that until now. That would be a zooked game mode. But apparently, from the information that we have, they have something coming that's gonna be heavy PEE, PVE with a light touch of PB PvP. I'm in very interested in that. Followed by a second experimental mode that completely removes PvP. The gun play, the UESC, the flow, the bungee flow, the feel of the game. It just it's too nice. I will I will take a hot take, a spicy take stance, and almost say I know, I know people will come back, well, Old Town, it's an extraction shooter. It's for the hardcores. But the game is too uh in my I'll tell you to me the game it's too fun of a game for them to not experiment with a with a with a little bit of a PVE mode. And I'm not saying permanent. You don't I'm cool with that. It doesn't have to be permanent, it could be a rotation thing, like, hey, it's just here Monday to Wednesday, but here's a PvE mode with a way for you to turn your brain off and practice with some guns, practice some weapons, practice your mechanics, practice a map, uh and a way to get resources to help you, to help you prepare for the weekend, the hardcore stuff. I'm for it, man. I'm for it. I think it could be cool. Uh anyways, go hey any any quick thoughts about on that before we before we uh go to the others? Um Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um so for anybody that's that wants to argue like yeah, it's an extraction shooter. Um it's it's meant to be hardcore. Um they can't do anything else besides that, they shouldn't be adding just a PVE mode. Um Call of Duty. Yeah. Could you imagine if that game was just hardcore all the time? No other game modes that you can play. That would suck.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But guess what? They have other ones that you can do something else in that game. That's one of the things that's and just because it's a an extraction shooter doesn't mean that it has to stay specifically an extraction shooter. They can do with it whatever they want. It's their game. Just keep that in mind. It's their game.
SPEAKER_05We play what they give out. At its heart, I want this game to remain an extraction shooter. I I'm a fan of extraction shooters. I'm a fan of the of the high intensity. You gotta you gotta check every corner because you never know who's lurking in the shadows. And you know, are we gonna get out? Is this gonna be the run where we make where we have where we make it out with all the loot? You know, it just all the stories we can tell. Yeah, we can't tell. We're not we're not gonna be able to tell these stories with PVE, most likely, then we can tell with what the way the game is now. And me and you might see that differently, but like at the at its core, I want the game to remain what it is, an extraction shooter. But I am all for them bringing in some PvE to lighten the blow a little bit, to give us way of more avenues to acquire loot, to acquire much desperately needed resources to help us fight Johnny Sweat 40 hour, and to also bring some people that's kind of actually I say kind a few people. There's apparently a lot of people watching this game on the outs, but they just can't make a decision yet because of all the mixed reviews they're hearing. AK come listen to uh please peace come listen to uh uh Bring Out of Breath. Anyways, um yeah, maybe this is the this is the ticket to finally get them to be like, I've got to go check this game out. They just dropped something that looks like a strike or a nightfall in Destiny. It's the game's only $40. I gotta go see what's up over there. I gotta go see what's up. I think it's a good move.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um I mean, just another thing. This game's forty dollars. Do you have any idea how much I spent on Destiny? $99.99, probably. Way more. Because I had to buy every single expansion. Um, I'm a cosmetics guy and I like having weapons that I want to play with, so I was buying extra stuff on top of that. Dude, I've probably got $400 into Destiny. Oh, yeah, easy. And I'll take $40 marathon all day of the week.
SPEAKER_05If anybody ever wants to say we're just being shields for Bungie, or we're just the comment, it's coming that somewhere in the line, especially if we get, you know, to a recognizable status, like, oh, those are the running out of breath guys, there's gonna come the point where, you know, somebody's gonna sh we're gonna get some criticism. That's just how it works, you know, and that's okay. That's okay. That's just how it works. That's the internet, that's just that's the game. Um and I feel like one of the first things somebody would say is, you guys just only have good things to say about Bungie. Here's what I'm gonna here would be my response to that. Uh I don't like the dire I do not like the last two to three years of Destiny, the way it felt like they were gouging uh prices, it was like to really get the full content of Destiny, you coughed up 99.99 once a year. Yeah. You coughed up 99.99 once a year to get the full, like, because that got you the expansion, that got you the dungeon key, they got you all the season passes. That is just you couldn't do it. The exclusive weapon. Exclusive that the but yeah, battle pass. Yeah, I was pay to play. It was actually, in my opinion, this might be a hot take. It was actually turning into pay to play, and I actually did not like, I actually got frustrated, and that is actually one of the biggest reason why I quit playing Destiny is I played it for nine years, and I just was burnout. At its core, that was the biggest reason why I quit, but the prices were honestly getting steep, and I'm gonna be I'm gonna keep it real with you, bat. I got tired of paying $99.99. And as bad as our FYC boys wanted me to buy what was that final DLC called? Not the new stuff they done, but what was that okay? It was okay, it wasn't with it was after Witch Queen, it was after Beyond Light. Okay, no, Beyond Light was before Witch Queen. It went Beyond Light.
SPEAKER_01Final Call or something.
SPEAKER_05Final call, final, final shape. Final shape. Final shape. As bad as I wanted to play, and I've only heard good things, by the way, about like that's one of the things that everybody's united on is how good that DLC was. I hate that's the one I chose to not play, the the best one, apparently. Same. I was just burnt out. I was just burnt out, and I was just tired of play. I was tired. I I you know, I'll show I'm gonna I'm gonna show Bungie some criticism here. I was tired, I was tired of play paying the prices. It was too much for me. It was too expensive. Yeah. Um, yeah, yeah. And I'd just been in the game a long time and I was burnt out. And uh a lot of a lot of meta and they and they it's true. Like there is some very fair criticism. Like there was a lot of things, there was a lot of pain points that Bungie went silence on in Destiny. And it Kind of like created a lot of mistrust. And I feel like Bat, I've I've said this before, and I'll say it again. In another world, if Marathon didn't have Bungie attached to it, if it were not for the art scandal, if it would have came out at another time where it was not directly competing against our creators, I think this game is an absolute banger, and everybody is praising the crap out of this game. I think that I really believe that in my heart, man. But people feel, you know, type of way about Bungie. You know, some of the Destiny community, the fact that that this is not Destiny, which that's fair criticism. That's fair. That's a very, it's very fair to feel that way. Um and then you got your other people that just hate the game for that gets the weird hate for whatever weird reason it gets all the hate. Um didn't want to dive into that too too much. I I kind of lost my train of thought a little bit. But um blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yes, yes, yes, yes. So basically what I what would the the point the point is we have stated before if even in Marathon, that has the the bungee experience that has not been the marathon experience. It has been the opposite. They've been they've got a very fair price, very fair priced video game with amazing content, and they're being very responsive to their updates. Alrighty, uh, moving on. I feel like there was something else I wanted to say, but uh it's okay. I I'll listen to this later on. I'll be like, oh crap, why didn't you say that, Chase? Uh okay, season three, revisions and onboarding. That is not the name. That is my notes. Season three, we're planning to introduce a lot, and he says, and I mean a lot of revisions to our early experience. Cool, good, including big updates to perimeter alongside another runner shell and additional, no spoilers, content. Pacifics, the team is also working to improve the contract system, Ws. Changing how players interact with priority and other contracts to make onboarding less overwhelming. Bat, it's coming, dude. It's coming. It's coming, dude. They're gonna make this game. This game is gonna get so much better, dude. It's coming. People just and I don't mean this mean. I really don't mean this mean breathe, people. Just breathe. I I think we said it best to be able to do that. It's a baby. It's a baby. It's this thing's far from being developed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, you know, I truly feel like we represent the the nine to fives in pretty much every way that we could. Um I went into a trios game the other day, and I saw someone that was level 47. Oh wow. I was like Okay, so there's still people coming into this game giving it a chance. That's good to say that. So And I mean, with it being this late in the season, that's a good sign.
SPEAKER_05Why are we why are we why are why are we rooting, and you know, I mean not literally me and you, but you you know what I mean when I says like why are we why are we rooting for Bungie to fail? We why are we why are we why are we not rooting for a studio to make a banger game that everybody loves? That everybody's making memories and having fun with. Why are we not rooting for that? I've never played Rc Raiders. R C Raiders looks fun. I want our please, I want it to succeed. I hope Rc Raiders gets 200,000 people playing it every day. It's not, but you know what I mean? Like, why are we rooting for gaming studios to fail? I want games. I want I want I want games. I want I want more fun games. Why are we rooting for them to fail?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it just doesn't make any sense. Like, I wouldn't want to see like a new Disney movie coming out and just hope that Warner Brothers falls on their face.
SPEAKER_05That would be so backwards. By the way, that's families. That's also Bungie, that's nine to fivers. That's people that work for Bungie that are feeding families. They have jobs, they're depending on Bungie to do good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, but yeah, you know, it's it's just I'm not gonna dive too deep into that. It's it's just it's just weird. But I'm learning something that, and this is the last thing I'm gonna say, and we're gonna talk about season four and season five, and we'll put a big fat bow tie on this. People have agendas. You start seeing, like, I'm I'm noticing with some, like, it's my YouTube algorithm. I I've honestly stopped clicking the videos, but my my YouTube algorithm is still, because in the beginning I was clicking on them, it still will occasionally shoot me like somebody's video where it talks about the it's it's it's talking about the number, it's criticizing the numbers, it's criticizing the revenue, it's criticizing this, it's criticizing that. When you click, I'm not calling out anybody because like I I've talked about it before. I'm not in a position to criticize somebody else's con. I mean, like you we can. It's you know, free, you know, free world, you know. Anyways, anyway. Freedom of speech, yeah, of course we could, but I don't want to. I don't want this, this is not the platform. This is this ain't this is I don't want that to be this platform. I want this platform to be positivity and me and you just sharing our stories and and just goofing around and representing the casuals. Obviously, if sweats want to listen to us, that's awesome. Like, of course, like please come. Actually, the way uh Atlas was talking about, that that person sounds bad to the bone, dude. He's like level 160 and he plays comp. He's like ranked silver. Like he actually, we haven't even touched the ranked in this game. Like he plays, or he, she, who, whoever Atlas is. I'm sorry, Atlas, I don't know. You didn't tell me, but you seem like an awesome person. Anyways, um, Atlas, like they that that that that player actually sounds like a a hardcore player. So, like, actually, bad so I think like hardcore players also enjoy our content, and that's actually pretty cool. Um but anyhow, uh, yeah, man, uh people what uh what I was getting back to is you you click into though their their profiles and you look at like their past videos and you see a pattern. This this person has an agenda, and their agenda is they just don't like marathon, and they're gonna do everything they can to see it, to see it through that it fails. Or they're gonna do whatever what for or for whatever agenda they have. Maybe it's it's just putting out uh thumbnails and and hot take videos talking about how terrible bungee is and it gets a hundred thousand views and fifty thousand likes, and that's a lot of YouTube re you know what I mean? That's a lot of YouTube revenue. Well, for whatever reason, you kind of start seeing the agendas. And um yeah, yeah, anyways, that's just so I just I I I'm gonna I've said it before, I'll say it again. Don't let us, don't let you know, don't let us influence you, don't let somebody influence whether if you play a game or not. You all the listeners, you make that choice. You make that choice. If you don't want to play marathon, but you enjoy listening to us, that's cool. Keep on listening to us and and don't play marathon. If you're interested in it, but you watch so and so and they're telling you how bad it is, but you got this little voice saying, but I'm kind of interested in it, come play it. Come check, come see for yourself. That's the that's what I'm ultimately, that's what I'm ultimately getting around to. Let me go ahead and talk about season four and season five real quick. Season four, they're focusing on building more depth into the existing extraction loop. Okay, not so not much there at all. Season five, ecosystem oh, ecosystem evolution season five. We're looking at bringing the whole ecosystem of PvP. Wow, it even shows PVE played together and evolving our weird sci-fi world in new ways. I'm so excited for this game. I'm so excited. Let Bungie cook. Let him cook, baby. Because I think we got well, I think the future. I I I I believe in this game. And I may be wrong, and and and down the line, if the game does fail, you know, people will hold us to that, and that's okay. But really, at its core, we're two nine-to-fivers, we're two regular dudes, we love podcasting, we love you guys, and we love talking, we love this game, and we love talking about this game. And yes, I shared some criticism and a lot of things that I don't didn't like about Bungie, but I'm always in my heart gonna like Bungie because I, that little kid, loved K Halo Combat Evolved. I, that teenager slash young adult loved Destiny 1. Like Bungie's always gonna have a soft spot in my heart. Any thoughts, Bat? Any wrap-up thoughts? Um, I think you pretty much said it all, to be honest with you. I don't think I've got anything to add. We've been that we've been live for an hour, about an hour and 37 minutes. I knew we'd have a lot. This is gonna be our longest episode. I just was looking at my notes and I knew all the things I knew we were gonna have a lot to say tonight. So I I I'm not surprised this is gonna be our longest episode yet. So for all of you that have literally made it to this point, you freaking rock. We love you guys. And if you have not come to our Twitch streams yet, get your butt over to our Twitch streams and come say hi to us. We love the engagement. We love it, we love it, we eat it up. Um, reach out to us, go over and subscribe to the YouTube, leave comments, good or bad, if you hate it, leave comments that you hate it. If you love it, leave comments that you love it. If you got ideas, please reach out, reach out to us. Uh, Bat, you know what I'm gonna say? Where can the listeners find you?
SPEAKER_01Uh the only platform still is true Batman4444 on Twitch. That's where you can find me.
SPEAKER_05Go, everybody, sub up like Atlas did. Go over, sub Batman up, follow him up, give him some love. Uh, we gotta get this. Actually, no, you cannot sub him up because we have not we have not got him affiliated. Help me out.
SPEAKER_01Give me a follow.
SPEAKER_05A plea. I plea, I plea to the running out of breath community. Go over and give true Batman 4444 a follow. Let's get this guy affiliated where he could start getting some subscribers. But uh, it ain't even about like all that, just come on over, give him a follow. I know he would appreciate having you there. I am your host, Old Town South. You can also find me on Twitch. Uh, I am also now on YouTube. I don't stream through YouTube, but I'm putting up content on YouTube. So uh I've already got two shorts on there, and all of our running out of breath episodes are on YouTube. So we have another avenue that we're pretty much everywhere now. We're on Spotify, we're on Overcast, we're on IR Radio, we're on Amazon Music. We are basically everywhere. So if you know a friend that you think would dig our content, I am so blessed and happy to say we're basically at a place where we can almost be found everywhere. Like I went to Spotify the other day, Bat, and I remember when we first started this thing, and it said in my uh directory that it our episode one had been uploaded to Spotify, but like I it was so difficult to find us. Dude, now it's like you type in just a few words, there we are. Like, bruh, like we're getting easier to find now, dude. Like that just warms my heart. There you go. Thank you so much. I can't say it enough to all of our listeners for like actually making this dream come true. We just have fun doing this. And it really getting that email and everything, it really warms my heart. So look, we'll we just we we ain't stopping. We're gonna keep this gravy train soon. Gravy train. That made no sense. We're gonna keep this gravy train going. We will see you all very soon on episode seven. We're gonna get some sleep. I got a busy week ahead of me, so gotta get through those, gotta get some, gotta get through some personal things, and then when the when the storm and all the dust settles, we'll get back to some gaming.
