Acadia National Park is known for it's gorgeous fall colors🍂🍁. BUT, these colors weren't supposed to be there.... In 1947, a fire blazed through Mount Desert Island and burned the park to the ground. You’ll meet the brave local fishermen who sailed out into the dark, smoky night to rescue trapped families by boat, and discover how nature used a this event to pull off an incredible trick: rebuilding a dark, green forest into a blazing wonderland of bright red maples and yellow birch trees.

Parents & Educators: Wildfires can sound scary, but today’s episode is all about the helpers and the ultimate comeback story! We use the historic 1947 Acadia fire to teach kids about ecological succession—how nature rebuilds itself after a major change. It’s a fantastic, kid-friendly look at forest biology and community resilience that aligns with elementary science standards (NGSS). Feel free to read the transcript on my website if you need to vet it for your child.

🎒Scout mission included! Experience our fun mission thats great for trips or the backyard with your family.
