Field Notes: 5 Day Devo
Don't take the bait: Day 5
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You can know the “right” things and still lose the same fight if your blind spot stays hidden. That’s the tension we sit with today as we close out our five day Field Notes devotional on “Don’t Take The Bait” and the ways the devil tries to come after us. The good news is the enemy isn’t endlessly creative. The hard news is we still fall for what we already recognize, especially when comfort and habit keep us from looking in the mirror.
We break down the three repeating tactics Scripture names: the desires of the flesh, the pride of life, and the desire of the eyes. Then we get painfully practical about what spiritual growth actually requires. Wilderness seasons have a purpose. They strip away what’s comfortable and reveal what’s really going on inside, the cravings we excuse, the pride we protect, and the wanting that keeps us restless. If we want victory over temptation, we have to identify where our “armor” is thin and stop pretending we have it all together.
To make it real, we end with a simple challenge you can do today: have an uncomfortable conversation with someone who knows you well and ask which of those three areas they see you struggling with most. Then listen without defending yourself, take it to the Lord in prayer, and start building a stronger defense where you’re actually vulnerable. If this helped, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a reset, and leave a review with the blind spot you’re working on.
Welcome And Weekly Focus
SPEAKER_00Well, good morning. Welcome back to Field Notes, a five-day devo. This week we are looking at don't take the bait and how the devil is trying to fight us. Happy Friday. You've made it all the way to Friday. You got this. One more day till the weekend. For some of us, it might already be the weekend, but all right, let's jump into today. We're going to expose the blind spot today. So on our final day, we've spent this past week looking at how the devil attacks. We we saw he's not creative. It's three things. It is three things over and over and over. And that is this the desires of the flesh, the pride of life, and the desire of the eyes. And because we know the playbook, we can actually prepare our defense. But that is the hard truth of all of this. We cannot fight an enemy that we refused to see. And here's what I mean by that. The wilderness is designed to strip away our comfort and reveal what's actually hidden inside all of us. And the fact of the matter is yes, the devil only has three things that he will attack with, but yet we still fall for all of these things, even when we know. Even when we know better. See, if we want to walk in victory, we have to identify exactly where our armor is the weakest. You have to know your own tendencies. Not everybody struggles with all three of these things. Some people do, but most of us don't. Most of us, it's like one or two of these areas that we really struggle with. And that brings us to our challenge. We all have blind spots. We all have things that we don't see. And we need to look in the mirror and we need to see exactly the things that are weighing us down. It's easy to look and go, hey, I'm doing great. I got this. But true spiritual growth requires awkward, uncomfortable honesty. The first thing we have to admit is we don't have it all together. And we have to be willing to ask people that are close to us if they can help us, if they can show us where we are vulnerable. See, some of us we're choosing comfort. Some of us are chasing pride. Some of us are chasing things, but some of us don't see it. Some of us we need other people to show us where we're the weakest. And so here's your final action step for the week. Have an uncomfortable conversation with someone today. It might be your spouse, it could be a trusted friend, it could be your boss, I don't I don't know if you guys have that kind of relationship. But have that uncomfortable conversation with them and ask them this specific question. What of these three areas, the desire of my flesh, the pride of life, or the desire of my eyes, do you see me struggling with the most? And then listen closely. When they answer, don't argue back with them. Don't try to defend yourself. Listen to what they're saying. Listen to their heart, listen to the things they're saying, and really meditate on it. Just listen and take notes. And then when they get done, thank them. Take that weakness to the Lord and start preparing to build your defenses. Because we can't defend against things and attack we don't see coming. So I hope you have a great Friday. Look forward to seeing you Sunday morning, 8 50. We look forward to seeing you Sunday morning. I hope. So I hope you have a great day. Enjoy your Friday. Can't wait to see you Sunday morning at 8 50 a.m. 8 40 Del Tona Boulevard at Mission Scent.
