Light exposes. That’s why so many of us avoid it, even when we say we want peace. Pastor Josh’s Field Brief lands on a sharp, personal truth: no one lies to you more than you do, and those private lies quietly shape every conflict you touch.
We read John 3:19 and Romans 1:25 and bring them down to street level: choosing darkness can look like self-protection, spinning a story, or clinging to a version of events that keeps us comfortable. We also talk about why conflict is bred in sin, not only in big, obvious ways, but in the daily habits of the heart. Then the focus turns to you and me, because peacemaking is impossible when there’s a war raging inside. If we don’t have peace, we can’t make peace.
One of the most practical images in the devotion is the airplane rule: put your oxygen mask on first. It’s not selfish, it’s survival, and it’s the same logic for Christian peacemaking and emotional health. We dig into the baggage we keep for years, the temptation to stay mad, and the subtle comfort of playing the victim. To make it real, Pastor Josh gives a clear action step: take 20 minutes alone, reflect honestly, and pray for Jesus to take what you’ve been carrying and put it to death at the cross.

Happy Thursday and welcome to the Field Brief. I am Pastor Josh, and this is a daily devotion from Mission Samp. This week we have been looking at what a peacemaker is. And today we're gonna we're gonna look at truth again. I know we talked about this on Tuesday, but today I want to look at it specifically as it relates to ourselves.
Our scripture reading today is this. In John 3.19 it says, and this is the judgment. The light has come into the world, and people love the darkness rather than the light, because their works were evil. And then in Romans 1.25 it says, Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
On Tuesday, we saw that all conflict is bred in sin, that all conflict comes from sin, whether it's conflict with each other, spiritual conflict, conflict that we have with nature, like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, stuff like that. And Tuesday, we were looking at it on a grand level. Although we did touch on it being like with each other, with our with with like ourselves, we were looking at it on this grand scale.
Today I want to look at it when it comes to just you. See, I said on Tuesday, and it's one of the big things that we have to really grapple with, is no one in this world has lied to us more than we have lied to ourselves. No one in this world has said as much untrue things than what is being taken place six inches from a mirror every day. Does that make sense? Think about this. When you're in an airplane, the first thing they tell you is if we lose cabin pressure, put your mask on first. Because if you don't put your mask on, you're going to pass out from lack of oxygen before you'll ever have a chance to help someone else. The same is true when it comes to peace. There's no way if you have everything raging inside of you for you to bring peace, for you to be a peacemaker. Because if you do not have peace, how are you going to make peace for someone else? And that's what our challenge is today is to sit here and go. What areas do I need to make peace within myself about?
So many of us, we carry baggage from years and years and years ago. Why? Sometimes, I get it, we want resolution. And if it was criminal, go handle it. But sometimes we carry bags just because we want to carry baggage. Sometimes we want to have that excuse. Sometimes we want to be able to be mad. Sometimes we want to be able to play that victim. Now that may or that may not be you. However, are you honest about it? See, again, if you don't have peace within yourself, you can't make peace with everyone else. If you have this war just waging every day of your life, how are you going to be able to bring peace to a situation with someone else? So our challenge today is simple. Maybe it's time you had that conversation. Maybe it's time you were honest with yourself. Maybe it's time that you stopped and you went, okay, I need to deal with this. And you need to deal with it. Whatever that may be. I don't know everyone's situation, but I will tell you, we all have things that we carry with us. And maybe you need to stop and you need to really deal with that.
So our action step today is to do just that. Take 20 minutes today and get by yourself somewhere in a quiet room and just reflect. Do you have things that you're struggling with? Do you have things that you've been holding on to that you shouldn't? Pray and ask Jesus, take it from me. Nail it to the cross that you were nailed on so that I may overcome it. Put it to death and move past.
