[Day Three] Novena to St. Josemaria Escriva

Through the Novena to St. Josemaria, we hope to be reminded of the meaning and importance that God’s will for us is that we be saints. And, we turn to the intercession of St. Josemaria to help us renew and strengthen our personal goal of holiness.

Jose Maria writes in Christ is passing by. Since our first conscious decision really to follow the teachings of Christ, we have no doubt made good progress along the way of faithfulness to his word. And yet, isn't it true that there is still much more to be done? Isn't it true particularly that there is still so much pride in us? We need most probably to change again, to be more loyal and humble, so that we become less selfish and let Christ grow in us. For he must become more and more, and I must become less and less. We cannot stay still. We must keep going ahead toward the goal, Saint Paul marks out. It is Christ that lives in me. This is a high and very noble ambition, this identification with Christ, this holiness. But there is no other way if we are to be consistent with the divine life God has sown in our souls in baptism. To advance we must progress in holiness. Shying away from holiness implies refusing our Christian life its natural growth. The fire of God's love needs to be fed. It must grow each day, gathering strength in our soul. Take a few moments now to quietly reflect on this message. Grant that I too may learn to turn all the circumstances and events in my life into occasions of loving you and serving the Church, the Pope, and all souls with joy and simplicity, lighting up the pathways of this earth with faith and love. Then to grant me through the intercession of Saint Jos Maria the favor of take a few moments to share your intentions with our Lord. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end, amen. Saint Jose Maria, pray for us.
