Welcome to Living Vegas with Chris and Ginger. Now let's shuffle up and talk. All right. Welcome.
SPEAKER_00Chris and Ginger Vegas. Personal and Vegas segments going on here. What's the personal segment this time, baby? Baby cakes?
SPEAKER_01I think we talk about uh just whether or not you're stuck in an era.
SPEAKER_00Stuck in an era? What do you mean by that?
SPEAKER_01Well, um do you think, act, dress, walk, whatever, in a particular era, and you never changed. Was it the 70s? Was it the 60s? Was it the 50s?
SPEAKER_00You know, you know what I think promotes that is um when people um people really are into what's happening when they're like in high school, and you know, maybe college follows that right away, and it kind of over one leads into the other, and then all of a sudden they go to work, they get married, they have children, they do whatever life does, but they stop. Some people, not everybody, but some people continue to be that person that they were in high school or college, or they just gravitate towards what gives them comfort.
SPEAKER_01So they they're in a suit all day, or they're they're dressed a certain way for work, and they come home and a pair of shorts and a pair of white new balance tennis shoes and a Tommy Bahama shirt is their form of comfort. That's what gives them that's relaxation for them to wear that clothes. And so that like for me, that's the most frightening thing you could put on it. I would that's not comfortable. It's not, it just says, for me, it says, I've given up. And and I know they haven't. It's just that's just what they're comfortable with. And um, they would not want to wear anything that I wear. Those guys would never put on a sparkly shirt. They wouldn't be seen, they wouldn't be seen dead in one of those shirts. But um, and so it's not a judgment on what people wear in terms of their clothing choices, it's whether or not you have an open mind to what's coming up, what's next, what's new, what's different. Are you willing to change?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay, I get that. Now, I don't think it just goes to clothing. I don't think it's just your attire. Yes, no doubt. Yeah, well, um I as y'all know I taught for 25 years in the high schools, and there was um there were quite a few people actually that I worked with. Um, but there was one in particular, and her hair looked like it was probably the hairstyle that she had in the 80s. And um and she just liked that hairstyle. Same cut, curled it the same, did it the same way every day.
SPEAKER_01I bet she was very many years, she was many years very good at getting that done in like 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_00It did look good on her, but um, but I felt like you know, it was just so set in um in the era. I don't want to really say it, but it's kind of like a Farah Fawcett thing, you know. So I guess Farah Fawcett was probably more 70s.
SPEAKER_01That was a good look in the 70s, huh?
SPEAKER_00It was a good look in the 70s. Yeah, so when you're wearing it in the the the 1990s and then you're wearing it in the 2000s, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And again, we're not here to judge. It's no no art, it's not we're not, we don't have the market cornered on what fashion is or what what people's uh behavior should be. Um we all we we have very different choices here in Vegas compared to the average folks. We do some really different, more exotic things or whatever, and that's fine too. Um it's just about whether or not you're embracing change, wonder whether or not you're open-minded and willing to flex and take on some new hobbies, some new ways of doing things. Right.
SPEAKER_00And that that doesn't mean that's healthy, I think. That that that's not clothing, hairstyle, or anything. So no, I apologize if I sounded like I wasn't being judgmental.
SPEAKER_01I think it can come off that way, whether I'm saying it or you're saying it. Anytime you have an opinion on someone else's clothing or their hairstyle or whatever, it makes it may make them feel a little more self-conscious or something. And that's not our purpose here.
SPEAKER_00And you know what? One of the funny things is is like, you know, mullets came back in. I think they kind of came back in recently. And same as, you know, clothing's like 70s bell bottoms and all this, you know, the longer you live on this planet, the more you think you see things kind of go around the full cycle.
SPEAKER_01So kudos to those who have hung on to that same style from the 70s, and now you're back in styles.
SPEAKER_00That would be me. I hold on to a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you do. You do.
SPEAKER_00Um, but um uh I just think we were just talking about it, and we were talking about sometimes there are people that um um they just never ever change. They stay the same, and you know, it's just an interesting thing and an interesting concept because we look at ourselves and we're like, wow, we're kind of wild, I guess. You know, um, you know, I'm sure, you know, I think sometimes our children look at us and think, what on earth are you doing?
SPEAKER_01Exactly. They're probably yeah, I'm sure we've made their heads spin more than once. Yeah. Because I mean, I think there is it it's also the fact that we're, you know, um, I hate the word seniors, I hate the word mature, whatever. We're just we're older folks who are um supposed in many people's minds, we're supposed to behave a certain way. Oh, oh we're supposed to dress, act, sleep, do watch our shows at night, sit in our same chairs and do the same thing like every night. And we're just not those people that could be a whole nother topic for a whole nother podcast.
SPEAKER_00But I have been told before, babe, what are you wearing? Why don't you dress or why don't you act your age? Yeah, you know, and I'm like, what I don't understand. Why would you want to do that? Oh, and a note on that, babe, is like um I've I've read a lot of things that say if you're over 50, you should have short hair. And because your hair gets thin. Yes, yeah, baby.
SPEAKER_01I was like, I've I've got that down, I've got that down for many years now. Very short hair.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you have the Kojak. No, that really dates me, but um uh so you know what? I I think it's really fun to reinvent yourself when you feel like it. Honestly, do whatever you feel like. If you feel like not doing anything and just lounging in comfortable clothes, you know, doing whatever you do is is great. I think that's fine. But if you decide, hey, I want to do this, I don't care what it is, you know, you want to get a some kind of a safari hat and you want to get some hiking boots and you want to just take on the world in a different way, then go do it. But but sometimes, you know, sometimes I think it's easy to get stuck in a rut, babe. And I think that a lot of the time, and somebody told me this a long time ago, and I really liked it. They said, don't live your life like it's a dress rehearsal. You know, because dress rehearsals are run throughs, and I think a lot of the time people become complacent. And um again, you know, if that's what makes you happy, then go for it.
SPEAKER_01But but as long as you're doing it that that way for the the the real thing, complacency can be a a driver of that, but I I think it's also a lot of folks are are just in survival mode. So are you surviving or are you thriving? That's the question. And if you're surviving, you're not putting a whole lot of thought and energy and time into how you appear, how you dress, how you what hobbies you take on, or whatever. If you're if your job is just getting to work every day, picking up the kids, making sure they're fed, and washing the clothes, whatever it is, you're just surviving. And there isn't a whole lot of options in terms of doing creative things for yourself, for your appearance, your your recreational choices, those types of things. Now, in our stage of life, you know, as retired people, we we've had a chance to just go in any direction we want. And that is a blessing. That's an amazing opportunity to to do things that are uh really crazy and fun and that you haven't done in many, many years. And I'm loving that we get to do that together because we both love that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and and I think that's your perspective on it. And I know I agree with you that it is fun uh where we are right now and that we get to have that fun. But as a um as a professional educator in dance, so I taught dance for 25 years. I was it it was a beautiful uh thing. So uh in my job, that was my job, and yes, different seasons of life. We are just survival mode. Get up in the morning, get through that cup of coffee, get doing everything that you have to do. You have to do the things you have to do, and I get that. But as um, I I would I would try to change things a little bit, but also as a dance teacher, I'd be like embracing the newest music, the newest choreography concepts. So there's a lot of different things because you have a choice, even if you're working the same job, maybe, and you maybe you the new glasses appointment that you have, you know. You get glasses what every one year, every two years, something like that. Maybe get some that look a little bit more, you know, the the direction you want to get, something a little bit different, something fun for you, or maybe put your hair in a ponytail, a high one, a low one. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01But I I think for you in your job, yes, I mean you're you're a creator, you're a creator by vocation. That's your job. You create dance and choreography and music and all of that, and um, so that that's more instinctive for you to do that. For those who go and their their job is to buy widgets for XYZ company, that's pretty, you know, it's pretty cut and dry, and it's not exactly um fostering a whole lot of creativity and and innovation in their life. It's it's a lot of repetitive stuff, and yeah, so it's easy to get into that groove, I I guess is why.
SPEAKER_00And I think then when that's the the way that life is, and we we we it happens to most people, then that haircut that they have, and the person that's been cutting their hair is the same for five years, ten years, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five. So, what my point is, is it's your life. If you want to do something different and change it up, you can do something different, try something different. Don't feel worried that of what people are gonna say, but you guys, guess what? On this topic, this is just kind of a fun thing. We have Chris's class reunion coming up in just like three weeks, four weeks, something like that. About a month, about a month.
SPEAKER_01About a month. Yeah. Hey, before we talk about that though, I want to I had one other thought on the whole um creativity part. Um when people come to Vegas, many of them shed those they shed those normal routines, how they dress, what they do, what time they get up, how late they go to all of that kind of goes out the window in Vegas. So um that's when you see a lot of people dressing with the little glitz and with little glams. Yes. And and so Vegas is really an opportunity for you to get out of that shell and get out of that routine and do something fun. So maybe what you're saying is that people can kind of ride that horse all the way out of Vegas and keep doing it for a while and not just give up and only do it in Vegas.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think that, you know, I think too many of us just worry about what other people are gonna say and what they're gonna think. And honestly, when Chris and I pack to go somewhere different, and we've even thought about this for the class reunion, we're like, oh goodness, you know, we're so used to wearing our our glitz and glam, you know. Um, you know, we we want to go and just be accepted as normal people, um, you know, but which we're we're kind of normal people.
SPEAKER_01We just don't dress that way, that's all.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah. I um but it'll be interesting, it's gonna be really fun. So I don't know if any of you have gone to class reunions, but class reunions sometimes you recognize your classmates from you the years prior, and sometimes you don't recognize them at all.
SPEAKER_01At all.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's why there better be name tags with pictures. There last year, last time I went to one, they had the senior picture on the name badge with the name. And so, oh, that's you.
SPEAKER_00It's you in there.
SPEAKER_01You used to have hair. Like, oh, that's me. Yeah, yeah, so yeah, many of us don't look anything like we did in high school, but um yeah, I am excited about the reunion and I'm uh also anxious and a little bit you know uncertain. Um, because it could be really, really epic, and it could also be who knows what. I mean, because yeah, I mean, half the people I don't know.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't he wants to be a couple case. This is Chris's class reunion, it's not ginger's. I am going as the wife, even though I I graduated from the same high school two years later. Um uh and I am, you know, I don't know his friend, I know his friends lightly. Um, I look forward to meeting a lot of them, and I look forward to having a really wonderful time and maybe making some new friends. And so that's how I'm looking at it. My perspective is a little bit different because you know, high school is different, and when you have people the class ahead of you or the class ahead of them, they um you might you some of them might stand out in my mind. I might remember them. But the funny thing is, guys, that was a that was a long time ago. And um, and so it's gonna be very interesting because we're all adults now. But a lot of them that um stayed that grew up in that area that we went to school in, and um they really didn't change much, um, they're gonna just have a different perspective on life than Chris and I have. And Chris and I um are are you know just gonna go and have a blast.
SPEAKER_01And I'm I'm grateful that there are folks who have stayed in in this area, in the area that we grew up in, and that they live in that general vicinity because they're the ones making this thing happen. They're the ones, the committee that put it all together and they give a lot of their time and effort and money to make sure it all goes really, really well. So glad for them because many of us live out of state and will be coming in for this event. So but yeah, I mean, uh I'm amazed that many of my classmates are able to quote like verbatim things we used to say during that time, certain phrases, certain jokes.
SPEAKER_00Like what? Share some, share a story or something.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, it wouldn't make any sense. But the the point is um there are folks who can do all of that, and I just can't. I mean, I don't I have memory, I have good memories of high school, I just don't spend uh m time memorizing all that went on back in the day.
SPEAKER_00All right, I think stories are fun. So before we leave this personal, this personal segment, I just want to say from my perspective, because everything is about perspective is everything in life, it's your perspective. And my perspective is different than my husband Chris's perspective on his upcoming class reunion. Well, it should be. Uh it's it's my my my looking through my eyes and my my history. So I'm looking forward to this class reunion, but he um, you know, and you've heard our podcast, so I'm not gonna go through a whole bunch of the stuff, but I have to say, my husband was um, you know, he was kind of a big man on campus. He he's not gonna say it, you know, but but neither should you. Neither should I, but okay, but I I saw somebody wearing a bee. He was literally a big man. He looked like he was bigger and older than the teachers, and he had his letterman jacket.
SPEAKER_01It was only because my hair was falling out already.
SPEAKER_00And and he had a group of friends, and they had their own little words that they said and their own little sayings, and I think that's hysterical. Like um, I think sharing some of that is fun. Okay. Just share some of it.
SPEAKER_01It'll make no sense to anybody, I'm sure. But um, like if somebody had body odor. Yes. There was a kid in our class whose name was Mitch. I won't say his last name in case he's going to the reunion. But Mitch always smelled very bad. Like he never used deodorant. So if somebody if you were hanging out with your buddies and and you smelled what if you had BO or something, they would go, oh man, nice Mitch. I mean, that's the it was the universal term for body odor.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, nice Mitch.
SPEAKER_01Man, this room is serious, Mitch. What's going on? You know another one. Uh even um certain types of Mitch, there's subcategories of Mitch. So if um if some sometimes guys would have b body odor that smelled like soup, like tomato soup. So they would say, Oh, nice Mitch, nice soup. I mean, there's a subcategory of the Mitch. So it just makes um if you were uh if if you predicted something was gonna happen, you would say, Oh, yeah, call. You know, in other words, I called it. So they would just say call. Um what is it? Um later. I always say later. Everyone says later, you know, when they're saying goodbye. Um tag. So if you were gonna hit somebody, you know, if you were threatening them violently, you know, just as a between friends, hey dude, I'm gonna tag you. That's what you would say. Uh nice tag when you so if I tackled a guy in the football game, dude, caveman, nice tag. That was a heck of a hit.
SPEAKER_00So who's caveman?
SPEAKER_01That was my nickname. Caveman, caveperson, cave caver. Um, because yeah, I had hair on my chest, head everywhere, but and then my hair started to fall out. So yeah. I was a very hairy guy. Anyway, um in fact that was one of my when I um went for class president when I was putting out my campaign um stickers and slogans and posters and stuff, one of them said, vote for caveman or he will tag you. So and I almost made it, but uh I didn't quite get elected, so I don't know what that's a long story in and of itself.
SPEAKER_00There were three in the race.
SPEAKER_01And one of the guys threw his his at the convention threw his votes to the one who ended up winning. Why had he not done that, I would have won. But I'm glad I didn't win because I didn't have time for all that.
SPEAKER_00Everything happens the way it's supposed to, baby.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Anyway, so that's some the little subculture of uh verbiage that we used back in the day. I feel like I left some good ones out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think you did. If you think of them, just as throw them out, throw them out at us because we will.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there was one more. Just um just there was a guy whose name was Randy, and he was exceptionally annoying. He was the most annoying kid in the school. And so, you know, if you were calling somebody annoying, if they're being annoying at the time, you just say, Hey, Randy, knock it off. You know, it would just be that everybody was a Randy if they were being a jerk. So, you know, later, Randy. Oh, and by the way, nice Mitch.
SPEAKER_00So Okay, so at the class reunion, when somebody has Mitch or Randy on their name tag, yeah. Oops. Oh my gosh, that's so funny. Okay, so what we really the this whole personal segment was just about Chris and Chris and I were just talking and we're just you know talking about the class reunion, but we're also just talking sometimes about you know recreating yourself and just having fun in life and and doing what you want to, you know, wear what you want to wear, be who you want to be. And uh maybe you never did something before, but you feel like you want to do it now, then do it. And honestly, um uh I had when I was teaching, I had a really cute bob, uh like a little wedge in the back.
SPEAKER_01Is that a haircut?
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. And and with my brown underneath, it was super cute. And I had that hairstyle, same exact hairstyle for like 10 years. And I was like, oh my gosh, I've had this hairstyle for 10 years. I need to change it. And so then I grew my hair out, which was very difficult. It's hard to grow your hair out.
SPEAKER_01Tell me about it. I've been trying for years, it's just not working out.
SPEAKER_00Um, so uh, so you know what? I've I've made that conscious effort, but honestly, when I when my son was a baby and small and all that, there was nothing better than short hair to make life easy. So um, you know, just just do you and have fun with it. And uh, you know, don't ever feel like you're stuck in any era or place or whatever, you know. Try to find those little things that you can change. There's some little things. Um, you know, maybe your earrings. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's fine. Or get earrings like I did, right? Two days before I retired. It's one of the coolest things I did. And I'm very, very happy I did it. I've been wanting to get tattoos on my forearms. Many times I've gone through this phase where I just need to get tatted up and I'm all excited about it because I see some dude who's all jacked and he's got some really cool arm tattoos, and I'm like, yeah, I could be that guy. And then I think it through and then I go, you know, with all the shirts that I wear that are so elaborate and so crazy, to have arm tattoos on top of that would probably just, you know, make people want to vomit. So it's just not gonna go there. I just decided not to.
SPEAKER_00That's a good idea because I hadn't really thought of that. But I've heard you talk about that tattoos a number of times. Typically, and I don't not always, but a lot of time the the guys just have short sleeve t-shirts on and really tight fitting and then you know, tatted arms.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you noticed that they're tight fitting.
SPEAKER_00No, I just noticed like that's all they wear is a t-shirt and and jeans, and they've got these tattoos, and it's like going up their neck and their their ears and their oh goodness. I see a lot of them at the poker tables.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I just want it on my forearms, elbows down, sleeves kind of look. But yeah, yeah. I'm past it, I'm over it. But my lovely wife, she's amazing, she embraces all of that. She's like, babe, if you want to go do that, you go do that. I I appreciate that about her a lot.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes people think he's doing it because I encouraged him to do it and it's not. It's just something I just say, do whatever you want to do. And I support it. Um I don't have a tattoo, nor do I want to have a tattoo, but I've had a lot of friends try to get me to have tattoos. And I've almost had tattoos. I had a na the most I had that was like a rebellious thing. Um I had my navel pierced um uh when I was uh Yeah. I mean my son was was young. Um had you know it's not like everybody sees your navel. Um but during the summer, you know, we had wet and wild passes. My son and I, we would go there, and I guess at that point I had a navel ring and a bikini, and it looked cute, but I don't have it anymore.
SPEAKER_01Good.
SPEAKER_00So what I'm saying is I think it's really fun to embrace change, recreate yourself, keep the stuff you like. Honestly, I could care less if it's in or out or design or what. If I like it, I like it. End of story for me.
SPEAKER_01And if you like uh, you know, long shorts and white uh new balance leather tennis shoes, have at it. Be happy. Yeah, it doesn't matter to me. I'm just not gonna wear them.
SPEAKER_00We have a lot of friends that really, really like their Tommy Bahamas shirts, babe.
SPEAKER_01Yep, that's fine. That makes them happy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. All right, I think that ends our personal that was that was that personal. Did you feel personal? Oh, you did feel like it was personal. I was like feeling like that wasn't very personal. All right. I guess that was personal on Chris. Tag, I tagged you, but guess what? You're not Randy, and you're not Mitch.
SPEAKER_01Just make sure you take a shower before the reunion so you don't have any Mitch. That's the way it works. Okay, I will. I will, I will. All right, Vegas segment.
SPEAKER_00What is our Vegas segment?
SPEAKER_01Hey, we're gonna talk shopping malls and boutiques.
SPEAKER_00No way, shopping. Oh my gosh, that is one of our favorite hobbies.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I like to shop for Tommy Bahama shirts.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say it kind of goes along with recreating. Oh my gosh, guys, if you like shopping, Vegas has shopping. And I remember seeing or reading something just years ago saying that Vegas was going to just be like number one for shopping, that we were gonna, you know, be as big or bigger than New York City for shopping. And I can I can see that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think we have a ways to go, but um, we're definitely growing in that respect for sure. New shopping opportunities on the strip, um, the boulevard, the BLVD shops that are across from the Aria and the Cosmo. Um, we have not explored those thoroughly yet because I'm waiting for the darn big the world's biggest in-and-out burger to be finished on the upper deck of that whole shopping system.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so wait, you just threw a couple at me. What were they?
SPEAKER_01The boulevard shops.
SPEAKER_00The boulevard B L V L across from that's not a couple, that's one. And it's in it's it, they're they're just finishing it now. It's across the street from what?
SPEAKER_01Aria and the Cosmo.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so it's it's really kind of funny when you look at it because you say boulevard shops, but it's a big B, and then the L V for Las Vegas in the middle is like highlighted, and then there's the D. So it's Las Vegas is inside the boulevard. It's really cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and they've got, I mean, you know, I think they've got uh Adidas, Puma, the HMs, you know, those kind of stores, um, and some other boutique type of shops, but I am pumped about the uh in and out burger. That's what I was saying. That one's the world's biggest one. I can't wait. And it's gonna be right on the upper deck of this thing. So you're gonna have this great view of the strip while you're having an in and out burger. Stop it. Damn. I'm gonna be there just pounding those burgers over and over again.
SPEAKER_00Baby, what is it that you order at In N Out?
SPEAKER_01I get a double, is it a double double? I don't know what they call it. It's a double cheeseburger meal.
SPEAKER_00A double cheeseburger meal?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes with fries, you know, yeah. Yeah, sometimes I do the animal style with the lettuce wrap. It's pretty yummy.
SPEAKER_01I gotta have a bun in there.
SPEAKER_00Bun. Okay, so someone show, yeah, this auto commercial for In N Out, guys. We just there's an In N Out going at the top. Yes, we did. We got off topic. Um, at the top of the new Boulevard Mall on the strip in Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, to the left of that is the Miracle Mile shops on the same side of the strip. Okay. Of the boulevard shops. So just a little further down where Paris and uh Planet Hollywood are mainly. Um that's where the Miracle Mile shops are, and they have some amazing shops in there: the Vercini shop, the Monarch.
SPEAKER_00Oh, One Monarchy.
SPEAKER_01And um, yeah, all sorts of different um makeup shops and high-end clothing stores, um good food court that they really just did. Yeah, lobster me.
SPEAKER_00Yep. But um, I really love the One Monarchy because their stuff is so it's all like unique only to that shop. And um they so check it out if you haven't checked out. Uh Versini's really fun for Chris's shirts, and uh, we really love that shop, but um uh and we we it's hard to go there without getting something, and we we know the manager and she's adorable.
SPEAKER_01Um she's a great sales lady, she doesn't let you out of there with the channel.
SPEAKER_00She's also a great friend.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Um, but uh yeah, so that's at Miracle Miles Shops. And then um uh okay, so the there's fashion show mall. But did we talk about fashion show mall yet? Oh right.
SPEAKER_01I hopped around a little bit. You did because I'm creative.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so can I tell a little story?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So um my story is when I was teaching high school, I was teaching dance and I was teaching ninth grade. So I'd have like 35 ninth graders, right? Now and most of them were girls, and they'd all come in, they were all excited about dance and kind of scared and quiet in their little black leotards and sitting there and um and you know, I had all kinds of dance stuff that we were gonna be doing, but I just bust out in the beginning. It's like, all right, hello, and I introduce myself as their teacher and I tell them, you know, about the class. And then I said, Okay, we're gonna talk about something really important shopping. I want you all to let me know where your favorite place to shop is, and that it gave them a couple of options and they would raise their hands, and uh, it was so cute because um uh one one school I was teaching at was by the Galleria Mall. And a lot of them would like the galleria mall, but still fashion show mall was what had more hands up, and then was teaching at another one. They they would talk about um the the fashion show mall versus downtown Summerlin, but the cool kids call it DTS. So downtown Summerlin is in the Northwest, an amazing mall. But there, I have to say, there were what's that, babe?
SPEAKER_01Outdoor mall, yeah.
SPEAKER_00An outdoor mall. Yes, that's an outdoor mall, and that's a big deal if you are here in Las Vegas. Um, but they have misters, and they also have oh town squares also an outdoor. I was gonna say that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're the other outdoor mall.
SPEAKER_00But the beautiful thing here is you've got the outdoor malls with the misters, and then they also have um speakers in the ground. So you're walking around and it's kind of has that Disney-esque feel, like um, you got the sound and the mistress to keep you cool, and um, but my story point was that the majority of the students that I taught for 25 years, every year, it was fashion show mall that won. And then those kids were so cute, and they knew that when then when I wanted to have fun, we would have fun and have that conversation. But most of the time I was pretty strict, strict dance teacher.
SPEAKER_01But so you didn't use that one as an icebreaker to get to know the kids, or it was just just a fun thing to break up the melodia.
SPEAKER_00It was definitely what what would be called considered an icebreaker. Okay. So that was the icebreaker, the very first thing I would ask them. Then there were other things I would do things from time to time that would throw them off. Um uh but whether it was the color of their eyes, where they were born, different things like that, what month they were born in, to go stand in groups like that. But this was this was uh the malls. So fashion show mall for for locals, kids growing up here, um, enjoying fashion show mall.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, as a tourist coming here regularly, fashion show was always our favorite. Um why why um just because of the size of it, number one. Um, they always had the coolest shops, whether it was be the shoe palace, um, you know, we'd loved looking for uh athletic shoes and stuff. We were always looking at those types of stores. Um they had good restaurants, they always had uh um a a great food court up top, and uh yeah, just loved I mean you just get lost in that place. It was so big. There were so many different uh places to go. All the usual ones, Under Armour, Dick Sporting Goods, and um I guess I like all the oh Oakley store, all those types of places.
SPEAKER_00As an athlete, you do like all the sporting goods stores, and uh they have um uh um Victoria's Secret, um They have Versini there too.
SPEAKER_01They have another Verscini.
SPEAKER_00Yes, HM, um Pink, um uh yeah, uh Lucky stores, um uh the Macy's, Dillard's, just all your big uh dick, yeah, you said Dick Sporting Goods. That's a fun one.
SPEAKER_01They have um a lot of those little um sh shops that are in between the shops. What do they call those? I don't even know. Pop-up shops or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that maybe I don't know.
SPEAKER_01They're little jewelry kiosks and stuff throughout the mall mall. I've bought many a uh ring or bracelet from them, and they they have some good stuff there.
SPEAKER_00It's not all junk jewelry stuff, and they're not they're not tor terribly annoying like they can be in some places. But the fashion show mall, okay. Let me just say this also. I almost every year I would bring my uh top performing groups to perform at the fashion show mall, and they would perform there. That's right.
SPEAKER_01They have that big flat area there in the center that allows you to do the fashion show or performance.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And sometimes they put um big displays with swings and art, and and there have been a number of times I have seen full-blown fashion shows going with runways going on down there, and uh that's just super cool. So that actually is a fashion show, enterprise mall.
SPEAKER_01A fashion show mall.
SPEAKER_00What I love about it is now, and I didn't ever love this growing, I mean, the time that I've been here, I didn't grow up here, but um living here for almost 40 years, I just love the mall because they had great items. It was easy on and off the freeway. But one of the things I really like about it now is it's across the street from the win, Kitty Corner from the Venetian. It's just it's really nicely located.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when Ginger's playing uh poker at the win or at the Venetian, I can go and check in on her and then I can go shopping and come back with a few bags full of clothes. It's not my fault. You're playing poker. I gotta do something to keep myself happy.
SPEAKER_00Out of the two of us, Chris, is the bigger shopper. He likes to shop more.
SPEAKER_01Well, I am taller than you, yeah. I am bigger. Is that what you do?
SPEAKER_00No, he likes to shop more. He um, you know, well, he'll say, uh, babe, I found you this really cool bag, but I want you to check it out first and uh check it out, or I found uh something for you. But he always finds stuff for himself as well, of course. Yeah, but um, yeah, they used to have an Ug store there too, which ug stores are hard to find, but they just got rid of it. That's a shame.
SPEAKER_01Well save me a few hundred bucks. That's all right.
SPEAKER_00So we've got fashion show, downtown summer, forum shops, gallery and mall.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Caesars has some really great show high-end uh stores in the forum shops, and David Yeurman is a really good jeweler there that we bought. Uh my okay, so so but can I finish my bracelet I bought at the David Yeurman shop for my retirement? There, now you can talk.
SPEAKER_00Oh, well, I was gonna ask you because he likes his um his David Yeurman stuff. Um, so I was gonna ask you. We've got the regular shopping malls, and then we have the Caesars Forum shops Caesars Forum Shops, shopping malls mall, and that one's really high end and the canal shops. Which do you prefer for all of your jewelry?
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, I don't go I I find ourselves going to the forum shops at Caesars very rarely. We're always at the Venetian, so the canal shops um are definitely more for our clothing, I would say. I don't buy I mean, I buy most of my jewelry from the uh fashion show mall. So I just happen to get the really high-end stuff from David Yeerman as a gift to me for retirement.
SPEAKER_00So or a gift that I get you for your birthday.
SPEAKER_01That too. I got the really nice earrings from one of which I lost on a cruise in the sand. And then we had to replace that. Ginger surprised me on my birthday with a new one. So um, because those were not cheap. They're like these black diamond earrings. So um, but yeah, for the I'm too cheap to buy the really super expensive stuff, so I um generally get that at the fashion show.
SPEAKER_00So and then we also have the um canal shops. Did you talk about that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, canal shops. Um yeah, they have that uh just put out a short today, uh, Vegas and 60 seconds on Valiant, which is uh another Vercini-like m one monarchy type of store, both men and women's clothing, and it's super glitzy, super expensive. Um, but they have some great sales, at least for the men's shirts. We got six shirts there a couple days ago uh for me. Um I saw this gorgeous dress. It's the uh it's the thumbnail for the short that went out today. It's this pink kind of leopard thing for ginger, and I just love it so much. But how many grand was it?
SPEAKER_00It was I think it was sixteen hundred. Yeah, it was just or twenty six hundred, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01So one of these days I'll I'll just uh win big and buyer that, you know.
SPEAKER_00But they did have a rack of sale items, and the the the dresses were absolutely gorgeous. So if you're wanting if you're like, well, I want some bling for Vegas, well, and I babe I can't tell you how many times we have been stopped. Well, you know it, in casinos, and the women or the men will say, Where did you buy that shirt? Yeah, and we send people to Vercini in the Miracle Miles shops. I wish that uh you got credit for all of those sales that that were run from your shop.
SPEAKER_01Well, I get discounts from from those stores, so it's not bad.
SPEAKER_00That is true, that is true, but um we don't uh a lot of the time you want to wear something really fun in Vegas, so yeah, and I think that's part of the reason why Chris and I love living in Las Vegas because we get to to dress like kind of crazy sometimes, and you know, sometimes you just want to wear the bling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we've said this before, but we spend a good hundred nights a year in the hotels in Vegas, um, predominantly um on the strip, sometimes at downtown, sometimes in the um local casinos like uh uh Green Valley Ranch or Red Rock or those types of places. But um so when you're doing that, you know, there's a lot of opportunities to wear lots of different outfits. And it the hardest part that we have is is packing for each trip and to only be able to take a handful of our wardrobes, if you will. And so and we take like, you know, we're there for what two, three nights, and we're taking like 15, 12 shirts, it seems like. And uh, at least I am, and so it's tough. And then we won't all want to coordinate, we want to wear similar outfits so that we match or coordinate well, and yeah, that's always a challenge. So we have that rack in our in our bedroom where we just stage everything and try to figure out what we're gonna take on the trip.
SPEAKER_00We want to have options and we want to coordinate, so there's a combination of coordinating and options and glitz and having fun and comfort and pool. So for three nights, we on the average when we stay somewhere, it's three nights, and I will bring two suitcases, a large one and then a smaller one. And um I just bring one, one giant one. He just shoves every you know what he breaks his suitcases regularly because he shoves so much in. I just say, just take two suitcases, and he doesn't. He wants to just shove it all in there. But I think maybe after we we just recently got a really cool nice suitcase for Chris. I'm thinking that maybe he needs to just utilize garment bags a little bit more for some of the shirts.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's just I I like to keep one hand free to carry your suitcase, so I'm carrying the two heaviest items, and then you're not having to carry a heavy item.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know what? My husband is extremely um, he is just such a gentleman, such a good husband. He's big and strong, and he opens doors and car doors, uh restaurant doors, doors for anything. And he carries the heavy items, and I really appreciate you, babe, for all of that. I want to tell you that. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Well, you'll get my bill later. So there's that. Just kidding. All right, well, cool. Um, yeah, I think I feel like we could talk about shopping forever in Vegas. It's uh it's they'll never have enough shops for us, right, babe? They can't. No, they really won't.
SPEAKER_00Well, at least for you, they certainly won't, because out of the two of us, again, I know I said it, but Chris loves shopping.
SPEAKER_01I do.
SPEAKER_00Um and it is something that we can do together, but I have to say you love it more than I love it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, probably. Yeah, I don't know. I like the hunt, I like the searching, finding that one unique item that nobody else has, like a pair of what, white new balance, white tennis shoes.
SPEAKER_00No, no.
SPEAKER_01Those are not unique, they're everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so we covered a lot of things. Personal was just do you, whatever it is, but don't be afraid to do recreate and do something different and new, whether it's hair, clothes, or makeup or or you know, just a hobby. I don't know. Just have fun with life, enjoy life, guys.
SPEAKER_01And do that at the mall, apparently. That's that's where you have to go. Our Vegas segment was all about the malls and shopping, and so yeah, you have to get out there, you got to be willing to do new things, go to the mall to buy those new things, and then go wear those new things and have a heck of a time doing it. Don't just do it in Vegas, do it all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but you know what? Sometimes it's very weird. Like when we go to Colorado, Colorado is so chill and so muted colors and all of that.
SPEAKER_01We dial it back.
SPEAKER_00We dial it back, and I still feel too vibrant and too like loud.
SPEAKER_01So oh, here comes the Vegas couple. Obviously.
SPEAKER_00Right. Oh, yeah. One of our granddaughters. Um, she was actually, she thought it was kind of cool. Um, because we go in to watch her performance and she says, My friend says, My my Gigi looks like Lady Gaga.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she said that? I didn't hear that.
SPEAKER_00My fur and my dress and everything, my hair. Oh, that's funny. I thought that was so cute. I was like, okay, well, I think that's a compliment. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01As long as I don't look like Lady Gaga, that's fine.
SPEAKER_00All right, guys, we really enjoy our podcast sharing with you.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Um, you know, let us know if there's something you want to know. Remember, we do two segments on our podcasts. The first segment is a personal segment, and uh not too personal, and the second segment is our Vegas segment. And um, you know what? It can't get to Vegas. So um, thanks everybody for joining us.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Until next time, guys. Talk to you soon.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right. I'm gonna go see if I can not get my Mitch on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no Mitch, babe. Okay, all right.
SPEAKER_00See ya, see you guys. Bye.
