Holistic Beauty That Actually Works - Dawn Jacobus - Anew Dawn Beauty & Balance
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Filters, viral gadgets, and “instant” fixes have made skincare louder than ever, but what actually helps your skin look better while staying healthy? We sit down with Dawn Jacobus, founder of Anew Dawn Beauty and Balance in Randolph, New Jersey, to talk about holistic skincare that prioritizes strength, balance, and natural results.
Dawn walks us through the core of her work: private, customized facial and massage treatments that blend lymphatic drainage, gua sha, cupping, sound therapy, and microcurrent. She explains why microcurrent is so effective in the right hands, how facial sculpting techniques can support a lifted look without chasing extremes, and what intraoral buccal massage can do for tension patterns you may not even realize you’re holding. If you’re searching for holistic facials, facial massage, or noninvasive anti-aging options with minimal downtime, this conversation gives you clear language and real-world context.
We also get honest about skincare myths. Dawn breaks down why professional-grade devices and medical-grade skincare are different from over-the-counter products, and why “more intense” is not always “more effective.” Her approach is consistent and systematic, designed to support the skin barrier and help you keep looking like yourself. Along the way, Dawn shares the personal moment that inspired her path in wellness and why she sees this work as self-care that supports overall well-being.

Meet Dawn And Her Studio
SPEAKER_02Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast Live. Are you in need of some beauty and balance? Well, this might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Dawn Jacobis, and a new Dawn Beauty and Balance is Dawn's company. How are you doing today, Dawn? What's going on?
SPEAKER_00Good morning. I'm doing great. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much for being here. We are love to jump right in here at the Good Day Podcast. And we would love to learn all about your business and what you do. Could you share with us?
Custom Facials And Holistic Tools
SPEAKER_00I sure can. The name of my business is a new Dawn Beauty and Balance. I'm established in Randolph, New Jersey, and I began the business in 2017. I offer private customized facial and massage treatments rooted in holistic therapies. My work incorporates lymphatic drainage, gouasha, cupping, microcurrent, which is electrical current that our body naturally produces so it recognizes it as something safe. Sound therapy and my signature sculpt and lift facial, which is an amalgam of all the things I've learned over 20 years in the massage and wellness field.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that sounds like a lot. How did you get into this business?
SPEAKER_00I gave birth to her prematurely. And I just came upon an article that talked about how massage therapy helps premature babies grow and heal more quickly. And I found that just amazing. And that really sparked my career. And that I actually had a gift through my hands to heal people.
SPEAKER_02That that's wonderful. And I'm assuming then it was just one step after another step over the years, learning more and and bringing more into your uh toolbox, we can say.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. And when you uh when you feel like you have a gift and and a calling, it really calls you and you really you have to say yes to it. So yeah, it's many years of um of classes and you know, just uh always learning, always learning and uh honing in on your skills for sure.
SPEAKER_02So after all of all of these years, what are some of the myths or misconceptions that you may have run into within this industry?
SPEAKER_00Well, there's a lot of them in my industry because we're in the world of social media and TikTok and uh filters and um, you know, people want the next best thing and they want it really fast. And um one of the common myths really is that like at-home beauty devices and over-the-counter products can deliver the same results that professional treatments can. Um, as a licensed esthetician, um, I have access to professional grade devices that are more powerful, they're more precise, um, they all require specialized training, um, and along with medical grade skincare that isn't available to the general public. Um, that also takes training. And um, you know, aestheticians study the chemistry of skincare, um, the ingredients, what they actually do for the skin and for the skin barrier, um, how to combine them. Um, something called chirally correct. Um, it's the ingredients actually working together so that they create change in the skin, and you want to really stimulate your body's own ability and the mitochondria of your cells to work to heal without downtime. Um, another misconception actually is that treatments have to be painful or that you have to hide in your house for you know a week and the skin has to peel off. And um, I don't really believe in that anymore. Um, as I see more devices out there, certainly there are some circumstances where you would need maybe a deeper laser treatment or something, but uh I believe that just um things can be done um systematically and uh consistently, and that actually can help your skin stay strong with minimal scarring. Um, sometimes continuing to do these deeper treatments can create scarring underneath the skin. And after a while you get fibrotic or fibrosis in your skin, and in the long run, you look worse than better. So I intentionally choose uh therapies that strengthen and rejuvenate this the face naturally, um, such as microcurrent and my sculpting facial massage techniques. I do intraoral, um, which is called buccal massage, um, and using cupping and gasha tools. Um and also I have my own skincare line and um doing like things like microchanneling with stem cell serums actually stimulates the mitochondria of the cells to uh rejuvenate. And then my last one really is um, you know, that women or or men too that are uh into their skincare as well and their body and and just rejuvenating and um and holistic therapies in general, just for body, mind, and spirit, that this is something that's done um just for vanity or people that with money, you know, um get it. But it's really about self-care. Um it's essential to maintain, you know, your health and your youthfulness and feel good and your overall well-being. So um there's so many options out there, um, so many practitioners, you just have to find the right one. And it really is important for overall health.
Who She Helps And Why It Changed
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much for for sharing that. And you know, we all know that marketing as at the heart of every business. Who are your target customers and how are you attracting them?
SPEAKER_00Uh, that's actually that's actually changed over the years. For for many years, I focused on like acne treatments. Um, but I would say, you know, any anyone from 20 to 90 really can can get um a facial and skincare um treatments and um lymphatic drainage is really, really important for um for everyone, most people, unless you have chronic things going on um that might not be appropriate, but our lymphatic system is super important. So um pretty much, you know, the my my target market has become more like middle-aged women um who really want to fight um aging but stay uh still have you know youthfulness, but but not go overboard, you know, still look like themselves, feel like themselves with minimal downtime using more holistic natural treatments.
SPEAKER_02John, you are a wealth of information. Have you ever thought about having your own podcast and sharing your knowledge with the world?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've thought about it. I've definitely thought about you know doing blogs and things, and that might be something that I focus on more when I'm not in the treatment room. Um, but being in the treatment room is is time consuming and uh and giving of yourself uh each day. So yeah, there's lots of possibilities in my industry for sure.
How She Recharges Outside Work
SPEAKER_02And you you lead us perfectly into the next question with being in the treatment room so so much and really putting yourself out there. What are you doing for fun when you're not in the treatment room?
SPEAKER_00Um I love to be outdoors, maybe not so much in the winter, but I love to be outdoors um on a mountaintop by a lake, you know, definitely by water. Um, I love eating, I love trying new foods, so I I love going out to restaurants and I love reading in all my industry magazines and things that keep me inspired and things that I can continue to learn, you know, new techniques. So yeah, being with family, of course, and friends.
