Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Hollow Wizards Talking podcast on the Hollow Sports Talk Network. It's trade deadline season. Little Dawkins, you mad genius! You did it again. If you guys don't know, now you know.
SPEAKER_03You probably already know. The Washington Wizards made a trade today with the Dallas Mavericks, and they got, as some people like to call him, uh not me. I've never called him this in my life, but some people call him Street Clothes Davis.
SPEAKER_05Well, he has so many names. I was like, where's this headed?
SPEAKER_03But the Wizards just traded for Anthony Davis. Alright. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm always joined by Henry Brown. Henry, take the reins real quick, and just let everyone know what you think about this trade for Anthony Davis, alright?
SPEAKER_05Alright, yeah, just go down the line. Um it is A. Along with a bunch of Dallas Shrapnel. It's also gonna be Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell, and whatever's left of Dante Exome, even though he won't play a game this season. For basically all of the Wizards bench that they were using. It's gonna be Chris Middleton, AJ Johnson, um, your favorite Malachi Branham, and I believe there's one more.
SPEAKER_03One missing. I'm trying to find it and pull it up so we can look at the This is embarrassing.
SPEAKER_05I've I've written this down so many times.
SPEAKER_03I have it pulled up. So Mavericks traded uh AD, Hardy, Russell, and Exum, and the Wizards traded Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malachi Branham, Marvin Bagley. Bagley! Two first round picks and three second round picks. Like I told you, Bagley was being shopped around. Dawkins was calling teams being like, look, what's it gonna take to get, you know, like to get rid of this guy? I say get rid of, but like try to get draft capital.
SPEAKER_05They couldn't get capital, but I look forward to when they re-sign him again in the offseason. Uh I always like having Bagley around. But what a trade. I mean, it's really the young I'm so shocked. The young core went untouched in this trade. No meaningful draft picks and no actual guys the Wizards drafted. All those guys we just mentioned were either guys they got in other trades, like AJ Johnson, Middleton, that's the Kuzma trade. And then Bagley, you know, he's always around. Um, and uh uh Branham, they got, I think it's part of the pool trade. So it's just these other moves have led to this. And why don't you talk about those picks? Because I know that they're not as scary as some fans, uh first prison.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I know fans look and see, oh my goodness, we gave up two first round picks for Anthony Davis. And some of you are like, we gave up a total of five picks for Anthony Davis. Three of these are second rounders, all right? It's like what one out of 50 times are you really going to hit on a second round pick? Something like that. One out of 25, maybe might be real more realistic. Seconds aren't worth first.
SPEAKER_05You got that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and so like it's but they have become a little bit more valuable because some teams have been better at evaluating talent. That's mainly looking at teams like the Thunder being able to evaluate their second round picks. I mean, when you look at their roster, half their rotation is second round guys or undrafted guys, and that's just them being able to go out and scout. Whereas other teams, they don't have that luxury of having such a good scouting team like they do. And so it's very rarely do you end up as a team with the Nikola Jokic's of the second round picks. Very rarely are you gonna get a player of that caliber. Yeah, very rarely are you gonna get a player of, let's say, like an AJ Mitchell caliber as well, or even just come over to the league. Yeah, and so the like the second round picks, and they had so many that they had to trade, anyways, where it's like you had to get rid of some.
SPEAKER_05Those first, however, those scared some people.
SPEAKER_03Those scared some people. So, one of the first is 2026 OKC first round pick. Let's be honest, that's probably going to be 30th overall. Basically, second rounder, basically a second rounder. And odds were they keeping that pick? Probably not. They're probably gonna try to package that pick and get more or move up in this upcoming draft, anyways. So they weren't gonna use this pick, anyways. All right, and then the last one, it is a 2030 top 20 protected first round pick from the Golden State Warriors, more wheeling and dealing.
SPEAKER_05That'll be from the Bradley Beal, Jordan Poole, Chris Paul Bonanza.
SPEAKER_03Like, and that's that's the thing with like people freaking out about the first round picks, is A, that 2026 pick, it wasn't the Wizards' own pick, so you don't really worry about that. It was a thunder pick that is you know gonna be 30th. At you know, lowest it'll be is like 28th, realistically. Like, I don't see them falling out of the one or two seed in the West. Being being honest here. You're you're you're right.
SPEAKER_05And but that's the thing, and this is just a culmination of all of the the Wizards, every trade deadline get a little bit better, and the moves get a little bit bigger, and there's a culmination to everything. There was the Bagwi trade, and then he came back. Um, that helped us, you know, use him as an asset. Um, there was again, as I said, Middleton and AJ Johnson as part of the Kuzma deal. Um, and there was Malachi Branham, part of the part of the pool deal. The fact that they've retained all these assets and been able to use them, and you and I have known that they've actually used these guys. These guys are actual rotational guys for whatever reason. They've actually been playing the last few games, and now they're enough money with Middleton to actually swing this kind of deal. But again, now then AD and Trey Young are probably gonna play a total of like five games throughout the rest of the season. The rotation is just the young guys and whoever you get back with AD.
SPEAKER_03Oh, pretty much. Yeah, that's gonna be the rotation. And if it was like you mentioned, is he going to play much? No, no, he's not gonna play much at all this season. Is Trey Young gonna play much this season? No. I know people saw this trade, and they're even worried, worrying about the position of this year's draft pick as what uh I think they're poised for fourth overall right now.
SPEAKER_07I think that's right.
SPEAKER_03They're poised for fifth. They they're tied with the Nets and because of you know, point differential and record, because the Nets did an ugly tank against the Wizards January 2nd. They're above the Wizards in that scenario right there. But give it time. Yeah, they're also tied with Indiana, and and Indiana's third right now. So it's like one of those things where it's literally one more loss and they jump back right back up into the top three. It's going to be a tank off that you're gonna see for the rest of the season. That's why Trey and AD aren't gonna play. I know people are worried about that pick that we have this season. That's top eight protected. I guarantee you the Wizards are doing everything in their power to make sure that pick lands as high as possible.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, of course. And they're not getting any better. You're gonna be asking more about more from the scalabisiers to just step in and just give some minutes because that's what they're gonna need, guys. Who can just eat these minutes for the next two or three months? It's gonna be a lot of ad and trae young watching from the sidelines. And Trey Young, I believe, so he has a uh player option next year, but they're probably gonna extend the player option this season, and AD is in a similar situation, except he's one year later. So now the question is.
SPEAKER_03That's what I wanted to talk about with AD because I'm looking at it, and I know people want to get worried about, you know, like, oh, financially, what's gonna happen in the future? The way his contract is laid out, it does increase over time. Whereas next season he's making 58 mil. That practically takes away your entirety of the cap next season. So I know we talked about Kessler for time being. This was before the Anthony Davis trade. Now, probably off the radar, unless he gets moved this offseason, which is still a possibility. I I think I think you and I can agree. Anthony Davis is not a long-term move.
SPEAKER_05No, I no, it's gonna be him and Sarr probably for like two years as Sar continues developing. But yes, I think at least two years. 87 decade out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and so and then he has a player option for 2027-2028. That is the season Whitmore and um cool bali extensions would go into play. Are they getting the max deals? Probably not. And and AD would waive the no-trade clause if he picks up an extension. Exactly. And so, and I but I don't see a world where they extend AD. I I don't.
SPEAKER_05It's hard to say. It's I mean, this just happened three hours ago. Um, but I'm just I'm just so caught up in thinking of the possible combinations now of next season when everyone's ready, how the uh rotation looks, whether or not there's room for balal now with with some of this money getting saved.
SPEAKER_03I know, I know, and that that's gonna be a little bit intriguing, especially with this upcoming draft. Because I'm watching AJ Dubonsa play tonight in person, and that's something people have been talking about, where like if they if the team drafts DeBonsa, you probably say goodbye to Koulibaly then because they play the same position. And being honest, who you rather start between you know two of these three guys, George Coolbali, DeBonsa. You probably want to start George and Dubonsa instead of you know, DeBonsa Cool Bali or George Coolbali. Yeah, even if they take Boozer, you have to have the same conversation. And so Peterson as well. And so it almost feels like whoever the wizard is taking this draft that and you know, cool bali's kind of the odd man out here, especially because of his offensive play.
SPEAKER_05But let's be honest, it's not because the offense has been, we're not even gonna get into this episode, but yeah, the offense has been has been really not good uh over the last week specifically. Um, but now, yeah, you have the option of you're you're looking at next season, Trey Young, pick and roll partners with with Sar and A D. I don't know how they play together. That's gonna be wild. I guess you're just saying AD go back to being the four and just hope there's enough shooting around the wizards, which I Well, I saw I can't remember who reported it.
SPEAKER_03I know it was one of the Wizards guys. I just can't remember which person it was, but apparently they said the front office views Saar is a four.
SPEAKER_05Well, they can mix and match. That's the thing. Saar is definitely uh less physical than AD is, he definitely doesn't have those kind of shoulders. And I think Sar would be more comfortable, just sort of um I guess popping sometimes for three. You think that that that number's gonna get better? Um, but again, now Trey's running the show, you wonder about the guards. You have now Keyshawn George as like a tertiary guy, and whoever the hell they draft uh the next few months. Unlimited options. It's it's just I I I it's hard to know where to start with some of this stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I will say the good thing about the CD contract if you keep them, don't extend them, and he picks up his player option. Good news is his contract with the player option, it ends on the last year of SAR and George's rookie deals. Yeah, so you don't have to worry about his money being there and having to train him away to free up Cat Space to keep both those guys. You just let him walk.
SPEAKER_05You're correct. And again, like the summer of decisions is not even this upcoming summer. It's not like you know, like Bilal's the only guy who's really due right now, intra in tra young.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, those are those are the cool bali's the only guy that's really due. You can throw in Whitmore, but it's not like Whitmore's gonna get highlighted. Yeah, he like I think at most right now, when you look at what he's done, it'll be like at most 10 million for an extension.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, and that even that seems seems a little steep.
SPEAKER_03But that this is that's like less than 5% of the cap.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, no, that's nothing. Um, we're saying goodbye though to a few guys who, again, the last few weeks, they've been that this is like the Wizards. That's that's like the Wizards bench. Um basically everyone but like Sharif Cooper, uh, who's been doing that second unit is is now gone. Um I know you had probably some thoughts. Let's just let's just start. Chris Middleton. Um it's been a pleasure. It's it's been a pleasure.
SPEAKER_03It it was a time, let's say that. I can't believe they traded him. Like, like we all knew CD.
SPEAKER_05Because I was hearing he had no value the way they trade his money.
SPEAKER_03I was hearing he had no value, no one wanted to trade for him because it's all one of those things. It's like if they could at least put you, give you like valuable production, sure. This was one of Middleton's worst seasons of his career when you look at what he was doing. Yeah, and they wouldn't have done the trade without him.
SPEAKER_05Like 80s making like 50-something million a year. Middleton was like 34 million of that of that money that went to the 1930s. He's the centerpiece of this trade, he's like the only known quantity of the bunch.
SPEAKER_03I want it to be known because I've been thinking about it, and this is how you break down the trade because it's practically AJ Johnson for you know, like, you know, Dante Exam, for example, uh Malachi Branham for probably like Jaden Hardy, and then you know, the second round picks for D Lo. You essentially just traded Chris Middleton, Marvin Bagley, and this year's 30th overall pick for Anthony Davis.
SPEAKER_05It's not bad.
SPEAKER_03That's essentially what happened.
SPEAKER_05That's really that's really special. I don't, I don't, again, we don't want to, we're not company men. Uh, we're not employed by the team, but um, really good asset management. I'm just amazed they actually he seemed like the most out of like buyout guy around.
SPEAKER_03Just just looking at acquiring, you know, what it realistically, like what it took to acquire Anthony Davis and Trey Young. You traded CG McCollum, Corey Kisper, Chris Middleton, Marvin Bagley, and the 30th overall pick in this year draft for both Trey Young and Anthony Davis. That is insane value. Yeah. Yeah. Like it's like even on the clearance rack, and it was like, hey, isn't it this is out of place? Let's just take it real quick.
SPEAKER_05I had a friend who uh I was actually, I had the misfortune of I was running an errand for my mom, and I was at Gap Factory trying to get some pants. Uh, and the trade happened while I was there, like scoping out my options. And I read it really quickly, and I'm just never gonna forget looking through all the names and being like, oh my God, there's there's no one the team actually drafted in this. And and a buddy of mine um was in a group chat, and he was pissed at first because he he was like, Oh, it's AJ Johnson, not Trey Johnson. I was like, Yeah, you idiot. It's and so he was. It's so it's the the fact that they they pulled that, and then we gotta, I think we actually also should temper ourselves. We don't want to run away. This isn't AD straight out of the bubble. Uh he's taken a few bangs and bruises in the few years since. Um and I I think we also have to you know be honest with our expectations. AD only played 29 games in Dallas uh in almost exactly a year of being there. So you're not expecting him to be some kind of trooper on the wizards, but the option is what we're thinking about right now. The opportunity.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's the opportunity, and he's not gonna be, you know, have to be relied on as much like he was in like LA, like he was in Dallas when he was playing there. In Dallas, they had no Kyrie, so he was the option. Let's be honest. He he was the first option, he was the offense for a while there until they got Cooper Flag and Flags.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the first season he was there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, granted, he only played nine games there. And yeah, no, that majority of his games came in that first season he was with the team. I think he no, I think he played nine games that season, and then he played 20 this season. I thought you're saying he only played nine this season.
SPEAKER_05No, yeah, other way around. This and this season, Cooper Flag was taking the reins. But I think we're looking at I think when everyone's healthy, it's probably gonna be Trey Young as the lead guy and you know, probably the clutch time guy. Trey Young is the lead guy.
SPEAKER_03You got pick and roll options. It's not like AD's got to be this on ball creator, and it's not like he's the lone rim protector now.
SPEAKER_05No, and that's the thing. A D is is past his best days as as one of the like a depoy candidate. Um, I think that's SAR now. But the fact that you have both of them, now you have AD who can physically match up with the guys that SAR can't, and SAR is has the has the youth and the quickness to recover from almost anything, and they can both defend across the city.
SPEAKER_06AD can just play help paint.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. A AD can just be help guy if SAR's, you know, struggling a little bit, or if he gets like blown by when he has to go on the perimeter, AD's there for help at the rim. It's not like AD is a bad rim protector. When he's when he's on. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_05No one no one is saying he's a bad rim protector. It's just he's he's probably can't handle the load that he once could, especially as he's waning on this contract. And now you have options. You have a bunch of big guys. The wizards now, they were already defined by wanting length and size and defense, and they've said all season they want to create offense through defense. Um, and now, you know, outside of Trey Young, um, they have it. They didn't really lose any have it. Not only did they not lose any foundational pieces, they didn't lose any defenders.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Right right now, this is what the rotation is looking like in Washington next season. This, and let's say they get the first overall pick, all right, for the scenario, because they're gonna tank as hard as they can, all right? Yeah, sure. But let's let's just say they get a first overall pick for the scenario. You have a starting five of, you know, and you can mix and match over you want, but for me, starting five of Trey Young, Trey Johnson, all right. Then you add in DeBonsa, Sarr, Davis. Then off the bench, you have Bub Carrington, Keyshawn George, Balal Kulabali, Will Riley, and you know, Justin Champagne as well. You have to go out there and get some backup size as well. Maybe they bring back Bagley as well. That's a that's a that's a playoff team, dare I say.
SPEAKER_05I think Keyshawn starts, if I'm being honest. I think over over Trey Johnson. And like I said, you can miss them mix and match if you want. The idea is there, you're right. That's and and I I don't know if they're really gonna hold on to anyone else they got in this AD trade. Um but again, you have the whole rotation without him.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like that that's the thing. Like the they didn't need all those rotation players, they just kind of got them in the deal.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and and we should talk about that because like I I don't think my my instinct was like, oh, these guys are gonna get bought out. I don't think D Lo's gonna get bought out immediately because he has he has one more year in his contract after this. And I could I could I wouldn't be surprised if the Wizards tried using him the way Dallas tried using him at first, where they just said, Can you take some possessions while waiting on Kyrie to get back? That's this with Trey Young. It's like the defense isn't good, but can you just keep the ship afloat? The the shooting numbers were so he was shooting like 29 from three with the Mavericks, and you just say, Can you do better than that? And can you play any defense? And I I know I'm not I'm not bullish on that second part, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried him. I don't think he'll be on the team next season when when Trey Young's back and everyone else is back. Yeah, but you know, there's still 30 games left this season.
SPEAKER_03There's still 30 games left this season for him to prove something, maybe come back. I know Gilbert Arenas is going crazy over this trade. Is he really?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, of course he is.
SPEAKER_03He he he made the like I can't even listen to it right now since we're recording this. But I open up Twitter just to see him. It's immediately like face in the camera, yelling and like big smile on his face. Oh, he he's pumped for it. And like I said, it's it's a good deal.
SPEAKER_05I mean, this the wizards are like the protagonist of of the trade deadline. Like I'm I'm now gonna get ready for my second major opening presser in a month whenever whenever AD comes to town.
SPEAKER_03That's crazy. That's like this this is truly a new era where like I think this you know the trades of season indicate that the Wizards are ready to be a competitive team again. I'm I'm not gonna say contender. Competitive. Competitive. That retire laid out is is competitive. Do they make the playoffs next year? I I think they have a good chance to make the playoffs next year.
SPEAKER_05Maybe, man. I don't know. This team, this team can be pretty good. They're gonna this is gonna be hell for people trying to pick like wins and overs and unders for uh win counts next season. This this can go somewhere.
SPEAKER_03I I think I think they'll set their because this year was set at like 22 and a half, I think.
SPEAKER_05At like the absolute highest. I I looked at a few and and I think 20 or 22 was was the highest I was seeing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And so realistically, they might put them at like 36 and a half for next season after all these moves.
SPEAKER_06America leads the world in medicine development. It matters. We get new medicines first, nearly three years faster. Five million Americans go to work because we make medicines here at home. And not relying on other countries keeps us safe. But China is racing to overtake us. Will we let them? Or will we choose to stay ahead? When America leads, America cures. Let's tell Washington to keep us in the lead.
SPEAKER_00Learn how at Americacures.com. Pay for by Pharma.
SPEAKER_05This is so big. This is so big. I'm just oh man. I I was when it first happened, I was just overwhelmed. I was like, where do I start? There's so many things to write about here. Um and again, this season was already that that game against the Knicks, which we didn't even talk about. Um, that was that was a really tough watch. Uh and there's gonna be more than prototypical tough watches over the course of the season, but our eyes on the future. And some people, I think on ESPN I already saw some like opinion that like the Wizards might have taken their rebuild cake out of the oven a bit too fast, but I don't know. I don't think so. And this could be really something next season.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it I don't think they took it out of the oven too early. I think we all realized like this was the last year of like the rebuild.
SPEAKER_05Yes, that's the thing. Everyone knew that this is the last year of the rebuild, but I don't think anyone thought that the wizard would take the next season this aggressively. This this is an aggressive move.
SPEAKER_03I know it is an aggressive move, but the reason it is a move that you can make is because, like I mentioned, the financial stuff, yes, does the contract seem like hell it does? Do I think the team gives him an extension? No. All right, I I don't think so. I don't think AD gets an extension. I think they're more so worried about giving Trey Young the extension.
SPEAKER_05And when you when you look at how he's been acting in DC, yeah. I guess the extension, if it were to happen, it would come next season. Um in which case that'll be the 27th season, which will be his 15th season league. So again, that that's a that's a long way in someone's career to be to be handing out really fat and meaty extensions. Yep.
SPEAKER_03It will be. And so I think I think what's happening here is I'll keep him, and I think he'll constantly be like dangled around and shopped around, like, oh, let's try to rehab it. Like, and I I use this a lot is like rehab their value, reshape it, you know, you know, increase his value a little bit. A D in Washington with a you know, like a true point guard and Trey Young could it could help him out quite a bit to where you can then flip him for another first round pick.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the the load could be easier with all the different options around. Uh the shooting could be something. They're already not a bad shooting team as it is. No, they're not again. You have you have multiple.
SPEAKER_03They're like middle of the road in the NBA for shooting lines.
SPEAKER_05They are in like attempts and percentage. And there's there's all the options, the ball can be moving. Um, he won't be alone on defense.
SPEAKER_03It it I think I think it's gonna be good for A D. I think it's gonna be good for the Wizards. Like, oh the possibilities are endless. Like we mentioned how you know he could fit in very well with this team and it could make them very competitive next year. Year and an actual playoff team. Maybe his final year of the deal, that player option, if he picks it up, you have SARS fully developed as an all-star caliber player. He's already you know looking like an all-defensive caliber player. You have Trey Young, who was entering his prime. Or uh gonna be at the tail end of it, I think, if I'm not mistaken. He's a 27 now. Yeah, along with Keyshawn George still developing. You have Trey Johnson still developing, add in whoever they get in the draft this year, hopefully a top three pick. Wow. In 20, and like I talked about, you know, when we're our starting the season, I was thinking 27-28 is the year where they're finally like a true contender. It it looks more possible. The timeline sounds like perfect, what you what you laid out. And so, and like like you mentioned, this is not gonna have be Anthony Davis being having to be the second or first option on a team anymore. This is gonna be someone that can take more of a backseat role and be a more like pick and roll guy, pick and pop guy, and not having to like create offense and be the you know guy like you have to rely on in clutch situations because you have Trey Young for that now. Yeah, and you look at the stats, Trey Young has been one of the clutchest players in NBA history.
SPEAKER_05He's very comfortable in the clutch. And and you and I value we value these, it's a lot like the Trey Young trade, the AD trade. Um, where you you value these it is gonna be a way to minim minimize it, but the the low the low risk, high reward thing, where in neither trade did they give up any pivotal assets. No, it was all just a bunch of guys they either wanted to get rid of. Um it's crazy to say that they gave up in this deal was AJ Johnson. Yeah, and and we didn't even really mention him. We mentioned Middleton and it just flew through the rest because um Bagley, we all we all know. We all liked Bagley. Um Branham, you know, didn't really factor in as much. You weren't the biggest fan of his. Um, and AJ Johnson. I think uh a small but vocal subsection of the Wizards fans really never gave up on this guy. Um I did it. I never I know you didn't. I I never fully saw it. Um, but he's talented, and I'm gonna wish him the best. With that being said, I don't think any of those guys really move the needle in Dallas. No. I guess you're just hoping one of them hits as like some more help for the young Cooper Flag rebuild project.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's probably what it is. And then maybe they try to see if they can hit on the 30th overall pick this year. Like the those were the two most valuable things in this deal, which is what makes it crazy was a 30th overall pick, essentially, and AJ Johnson, who hasn't gotten a lot of run in the NBA. That's what just got you Anthony Davis.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and it's it's made me think because I remember he was getting a bunch of D NPs a few weeks ago, and we were all saying, Wow, maybe the trade's coming. But in like the last week, he's been getting like regular minute loads. Like he's played like at least 20 minutes his last several games, and then the next day he gets traded. He had like 14 points yesterday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but Marvin Bagley, I think we all expected you to be traded. It was fun. It's the pressure you you made me a believer. Come back. That this is an endless cycle. Let's keep doing it. Let's keep doing it. It's been fun, you know it. Come on back, and then uh, I guess Malachi. I guess.
SPEAKER_05Wild day. The emergency pod. I don't think we yeah, we did this for the Trey Young trade too. And another one in front of it.
SPEAKER_03We did it for Trey Young. It's just it's unfortunate we didn't have more time as I was at I was at work today when it happened.
SPEAKER_05I was like, oh no, I think I think we covered all of the emergency storylines. We'll we'll be back probably really soon to talk about some more fit things when we've had more time to sit with it. Oh, yeah. But that's all I got right now. For the for the for the breaking news stuff, at least.
SPEAKER_03So that's all we got. Breaking news. Anthony Davis is a wizard. This team's making the playoffs next year, championship contender in the 27-28 season. Call it, book it right now. I'm I'm loving it. And I I can't end this without mentioning that my personal favorite team that I grew up watching, Oklahoma City Thunder. Kind of an under-the-radar move that I I love for him. Did you see that? McCain? Jared McCain? That was nice. That was like a minute after AD, like we weren't gonna notice. I know. On draft night, I was doing a live stream of my channel talking about it, you know, talking about the draft, and uh, Thunder came up 12th overall, and I was like, man, personally, I'm going McCain right here. You need another young shooter because you know, there were already rumors of Isaiah Joe potentially being traded. I was like, get another young shooter. He showed a lot of potential at Duke. I think he's one of the best prospects in this draft this year. They didn't take him, but he still got there some way, somehow.
SPEAKER_05I respect the swing. We all like McCain. You just hope I guess he can still get his game off in this kind of lower leverage role. Because like what he's gonna be coming off the bench, of course, but like how he might not even be in the playoff rotation this year.
SPEAKER_03It's just more so like down the line, getting depth, getting someone you believe in.
SPEAKER_05I hope they're not being too sneaky, these thunder, because they know they need like another guy who can create his own shot and like you know help control the offense. And McCain could do that, but he's not nearly as much of a given as some other guys in the market. So I hope they're not trying to cut corners here for their sake.
SPEAKER_03I don't I don't I don't think they are because they have AJ Mitchell. He's just been hurt, and that's been their secondary creator. Good point. And so I think I think the McCain thing was like we need to get rid of Jang. Let's try to get some value out of him. And they got rid of Jang in the Houston pick this year, which will also be a pretty late pick in the first round draft. Yeah, poor Jang.
SPEAKER_05He's already been on three teams today. I know. Is he in Chicago or Charlotte now?
SPEAKER_03He's in Chicago. Okay. Chicago. Good luck, dude. Good good luck to him. And also one more trade deadline, though.
SPEAKER_05So that's yeah. Unless there's something else coming, that's really that's really it. I'd rather have this than Sabonis. Oh my gosh. I I just have to see.
SPEAKER_03I I saw that report came out, and it was literally 15 minutes before the trade happened. I I was about to ride on it, and then that happened.
SPEAKER_05I was like, oh my goodness. Yeah, no, I I'll I'll I'll take it.
SPEAKER_03Which the Sabonis thing, I do have info that he's staying there now because the reason it's not because Toronto and Sacramento have a deal laid out and ready to go. The problem is they need Memphis to be involved to take on Yacht, and originally they were. They were, you know, ready to do it. They Memphis is now backed out, so now Toronto has no way to get Sabonis because of Memphis backing out.
SPEAKER_05That's what they get for that terrible purple contract. That thing was that thing was bad immediately. It's like four years 100 mil or something like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's bad. But and then also um keep the keep our guys at the Washington Post in your mind, please. Yes, please.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's that's what we'll end on.
SPEAKER_03Um, I'm seeing a lot of people talking about it today. Bobby Marks even talked about he is like, hey, Washington Post might be a good time to bring back that sports department.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this this was crazy news today, but there was a lot crazier going on. Uh so it's good you mentioned that. Um it weighs heavy uh in the DMV. It like some of these games.
SPEAKER_03It it definitely does. Keep those guys that are experiencing layoffs over there at the post in your mind. I mean, just please. But ladies and gentlemen, Davis, he's uh he's a Washington Wizard. Crazy. It's crazy. Uh the Mavericks turned Luka Doncic into Chris Middleton and Marvin Bagley. That's not bad. That's what they did.
SPEAKER_05They turned Luka Doncic into talk about some more specific fit stuff. Um Wow. That's the final parting message. Wow.
SPEAKER_03That was that was quite an episode. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you guys as always for tuning in and listening. We'll see you guys in the next one. Peace.
SPEAKER_01Spring just slid into your DMs. Grab that boho look for that rooftop dinner, those sandals that can keep up with you, and hang some string lights to give your patio a glow up. Spring's calling. Ross, work your magic.
