It's like this handbook for life that we were supposed to get and we didn't, along with learning how to walk and talk and you know balance a checkbook, but that's not really a thing anymore. But we're log into the internet, whatever it is we do now. And like we were supposed to also learn how to clear our energy and how to be grounded and how to protect ourselves and for us and for our kids and for the people around us, but we aren't taught that. And I I want us to all have that information.
SPEAKER_00This is the Embodied Way Podcast, where creative people come to reconnect with their sole purpose, identify and release their blocks, heal old wounds, and manifest the life they've always dreamed of. I'm Natalie Necufarrow, and I'm an actress, writer, producer, and embodiment coach. This is the first episode of the Embodied Way Podcast, and I'm so thrilled that my dear friend and energy work mentor, Kara Viana, agreed to join us today. When I met Kara in 2021, I was feeling all kinds of weird things in my body that I didn't yet have the tools to interpret. Through my work with her, I was able to detangle and discover so many things about myself that completely changed my life, and honestly, is a huge reason why the embodied way exists in the first place. Next week, I'll be diving deeper into my own experience discovering embodiment, what it means to me, and how it changed my life. But this week, I get to introduce you to this incredibly special woman. Kara Viana is a teacher, healer, and intuitive channel, and the founder of Master Your Magic Intuitive Development School. Now in its 18th year, teaching people energy work and how to harness their intuitive gifts. Kara has been doing this work for over 25 years. Her energy oozes playfulness and magic, while she helps bring people back into connection with the true essence of who they are. Her unique approach includes venturing deep into the shadows with a sense of joy and loving celebration. I know you're gonna love her just as much as I do.
SPEAKER_04How are you doing today? I'm good and I've been looking forward to this. And I'll just say for everyone listening that I'm really grateful that we're not on video. I'm stinky from a run. We're sitting both of us in our closets, like so real life here, and I could not be happier about it. I'm so grateful to just be in the full realness of life with you while my toddler's at daycare and and like life is happening, and this is like the perfect little chunk in my day to sit down and create with you.
SPEAKER_00Yay. I love that. And I love that you shared that with our listeners because I really thought about like how I wanted this to feel. And such a major important thing is to get people to feel comfortable showing up as authentically themselves. And the truth of the matter is, is sometimes it's a lot easier to show up authentically yourself when you don't have to be shiny or fancy or put on nice clothes or put on makeup or worry about what people are going to think when they look at you. So it's all heart and voice here. And it's so let's just dive right in. Kara, why don't you tell everyone a little bit about the work that you do and how you found it? Yes.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so I'm I bet there's gonna be a lot of people listening who can relate to this in some way, shape, or form because I know that you can, and I know that we we attract people like us. So I was, I am a really sensitive person. I'm the girl you're like, uh, is that a movie Kara appropriate? Can we take her to see that one? Or is she gonna like cry for six weeks afterwards? Like, sensitive in everything, whatever it is. Like, if you're like, Kara, you should try this supplement, I should probably start with a small dose, like anything, just everything, sensitivity off the charts. And that was really challenging. That's still challenging sometimes, but it was really challenging as a kid. I'm super empathic. I pick up all the things around me. I feel everybody's feelings. I'm always trying to make everybody okay so that I can take a breath. And as a child, that um that came out in a lot of ways and was it was hard. It was hard. My mom was like, something's different about my kid. And she started on a journey of spirituality to try to figure out what was going on with me and how to support me, which was the best thing that ever could have happened. And then by the time I hit 18, it was like, um, and I didn't know it, but what it was happening on an energetic level is that I had taken on so much from the world around me over and over and over and over and over and over again. And I didn't know that I was doing it or how to do it appropriately or anything else. I was just like, you're hurting. Uh, I'm absorbing that, I'm absorbing this. And I finally broke. And it, it's I plummeted into the depth of this depression, and I had no reason for it. Like sadness that made me want to die. I I felt like this blackness in my torso, and I would like dream of cutting it out. Like I wanted to stab myself in the stomach all the time. And I was like, what is this? Like, what's happening to me? Why am I spending hours a day sobbing? Anytime I'm not, you know, I drag myself to go work, but what's going on? And and I remember finally admitting what was happening to some of my girlfriends, and word got back to their parents and then to my mom, and she was like, Let me get help for you. And because of her journey, the first thing she said was, I just heard about this amazing psychic. Let me tell you, you want to go have a reading. Because I grew up with Western medicine and energy work. Everything was both. Everything was go see this healer and go to the doctor. So this was all pretty normal. So I was like, okay. So I dragged myself into this reading because I'm expecting that she's gonna say, Oh, you've got this like undealt with thing from your childhood, right? Something like something I can't see. And she sat down and she starts looking and she goes, Oh, honey, the chemicals in your brain are off. You need some medication and you need a really good doctor. And also, um, I have a meditation class and it's starting tomorrow and it's full, but I will open up another spot for you. And it was a beautiful, the reading was beautiful. Everything that she said there was so helpful and wonderful. And that was the moment of like this two-fold path opening up for me of healing. And it took me like six years on this journey of um deeply studying energy work and spirituality. I went into that very first class, I sobbed the whole way there. Once I was in the class and we began meditating and doing these energy work tools, and it was the first day of the simplest of classes, and all of a sudden the pain was gone. And I was afraid to leave the room. I went up and I hugged her afterwards, and I was like, How long can I hug this woman before like she wouldn't let me come back to class? Cause I wanted to cling to her like a lifeline. Cause I this practice, like it took away the pain and it lasted for a little bit. And I remember like, I don't know how far of the drive home before it like hit me like a ton of bricks again. And so I was in all of this at the same time that I was going to doctors and therapists and taking many different antidepressants, trying to find my way to survive through this journey. And different teachers and eventually beginning to understand, oh, I'm an empath. I've been taking on the whole world. That's not normal. I don't know how to process it. My next teacher told me that I was an out-of-control healer. And I remember laughing. It still makes me laugh because it's such a true statement that I was just trying to help everybody in the world and I was taking it all on. I didn't know another way, too, wasn't a conscious thing. So I was killing myself quite literally in the process of taking all of this on. So through all of this study of these meditation and energy work tools, not only did I learn how to heal my body and heal everything that I'd been storing and let go of it, which was a multi, was a quite a layer. In my all my years of teaching, I have never met someone who had as much craps to sort through as I do. So I'm always like, you got this. It's gonna be great. It's gonna be fine. So I took years of like unpacking all of that. And then in the process, I learned that I have all of these intuitive gifts. And now I think about them as those instead of annoying sensitivities most of the time. And eventually I came to a place where I had this immense joy in my life and stability and happiness, and I didn't need any medication and I uh I wasn't afraid of falling back into that depression again. Um, and that I'm 45, so that was however many years ago that I did that. And after, I don't know, some years in 10 years, maybe something, all of a sudden I had the call that I was supposed to be teaching, which was never the thing I thought I would do. Um, so that was probably 20, 25 years ago now or something. 20 some 20 years ago. And I began teaching these classes and it's grown and grown. Um, and I've had the honor of watching this work change the life of every person who gets their hands on it. It's like this handbook for life that we were supposed to get and we didn't, along with learning how to walk and talk and you know, balance a checkbook, but that's not really a thing anymore. But we're log into the internet, whatever it is we do now. And like we were supposed to also learn how to clear our energy and how to be grounded and how to protect ourselves and for us and for our kids and for the people around us, but we aren't taught that. And and I I I want us to all have that information.
SPEAKER_00So powerful, and there are so many pieces that obviously I personally resonate with, and but also I think for our listeners, I want you to talk a little bit more about this taking on the energy of the world around you and feeling really heavy because I think what we're going through um in terms of political climate right now in the United States, um, and the constant onslaught of really horrible news all of the time, the massive atrocities that are happening towards immigrants and people of color. There's so much happening in the conscious view. Like social media is great because it connects us to other people, and it's also not great in that we don't have the kind of separation that a lot of people are used to having. And so, can you talk a little bit about how maybe other people are starting to experience this overwhelm emotionally that came for you under other circumstances and how this work can help them?
SPEAKER_04I honestly don't know how I would have survived. So I I'm so thankful that I wasn't unequipped by the time social media and this bombardment was a thing. Um, I don't know how I would have survived being in my younger years as sensitive as I am with the onslaught that we live with now of information, especially negative information, right? Because that's what that's what riles us up. And so that's what sells. And so that's what's shared. And it's important that we understand that. It's really important that we understand that. And the biggest thing I want to say is like, check on your sensitive friends because they're not okay. And interestingly, we have this as a collective, we have this A outrage addiction, massive addiction to outrage, and B, this weird thing that we do where we guilt and shame each other and ourselves if we don't think we are consuming enough negative information and being properly upset about it. And so even on days when you you're like, oh my God, I'm breathing. I think I'm having a good day. Wait, is this what a good day feels like? Is that, oh no, I'm a terrible person for having a good day. I should be feeling really upset, like I have been all these other days, about all of these things happening because with what we're putting on ourselves and each other, it's a very weird place that we're in right now. So as sensitive beings, we are, and this is, I know woo-woo. I the way that I try to figure out how to explain this in less woo-woo ways, but it's very scientifically proven. Highly sensitive people, you can document it. It's it's there's books about the science of it. We are taking on way more information in a highly sensitive nervous system than we are, than an average person is. And I like to think about um being a sensitive person or an empath, and we'll just use both of those words. They don't quite mean the same thing, but they overlap a lot. It's like a spectrum, right? So everyone is taking on energy all the time. We all are. We are herd animals. I like to, it helps me to think about it that way. We're not like a lone tiger stalking in the woods. We want to think that we are as apex predators, but no, no, no, we are herd animals. And if you watch a giant collective herd of gazelles or something, and something snaps on a twig and one gazelle pops its head up, the whole herd goes, huh? And everyone goes into fight or flight in that moment because they are ready to run. And we're doing that to each other all the time. That's what our social media outrage sharing is, is we're like, my nervous system got lit up. I'm litting up everyone else's. Just ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom. But how many, because on the other side of that is then the gazelle, and maybe it's the same one or a different one, or three or four of them are like, yeah, everything's fine, and they put their head back down, and everyone goes, Oh, everything's fine. Even if they were in the middle and they couldn't quite see, they felt the nervous systems of those say everything's fine, then everybody collectively went back down again. But where's our back down again? We don't have that. We're not bringing ourselves back down and we're not rippling that part of the positive herd mentality out. So, A, get those people in your life. Please have more of them then, and practice being that at least once in a while for everybody else and for yourself. Like, let me calm my nervous system and maybe share that with one more person if I can. Let me give a hug, a handhold, a smile, something. Cause because we need it collectively. It's it's really good for us. And it helps us bring positive change into the world more than anything. It empowers that positive change. So, so wherever you are on this spectrum of sensitivity, um, maybe you're taking on everything. And what that looks like practically would be like you go to have lunch with a friend and they are having a bad day. They're going through a divorce, they just got fired, they are diagnosed with something, or they just got a scary thing, and then you leave. And maybe they were, maybe they were just feeling bitchy that day. Maybe it wasn't even a big deal. Whatever it is, they had something in their energy, and you leave like twitching. You're super depressed, or you're super anxious, or you don't know why, but you want to climb out of your skin or yell at people, or you're ragey, or whatever it is. And we're doing this all the time to each other. This is this outrage addiction I'm talking about. But or you notice that you walk into a room or a building or a party and you're like, oh no, the energy is really off here. Something's really off in this, something's not right. And you feel it in your body, and maybe you feel it for an hour or a day or a week until finally it dispels itself or life dispels it, or you go for a run, or you pet your dog, or you take a nap, or you hug a tree. There's a lot of beautiful things that you can do. Hopefully, you have a great meditation energy work practice where you can clear it in 30 seconds. Um, that's what I would hope for everyone that that tool is in your pocket. But the more impacted you are by things, and it could be different things for different people. I love talking to other sensitives and being like, Oh, can you watch horror movies? No, no, I can't do, but I get can you watch sad movies? Can you read this kind of book? Can you talk to because we all have different things? My friend's son can't watch movies that have dark scenes and not depressing, but physically dark. If the screen goes dark, super triggering for his impasse sensitivity somehow. For me, it's all about the sadness. I've had enough in my life. I have no problem tapping into sadness. If you had me on stage and you were like, Kara, we just need to evoke sadness. I'll be like, my dog's gonna die one day. Like tears, they're there, they're always readily available. I don't need to need to read the sad books. Please fast forward through the part in the movie where you have to set up the why do the parents always have to die? Why is that always the setup? Now I have a three-year-old and we're like, what are good toddler movies? Well, nothing by Disney because the parents always die. Why are we killing all the parents off? So, anyway, if you are some kind of sensitive human and you relate to that in some way, please be gentle on yourself and the amount that you are consuming of negative energy in the world in whatever shape or form, because it's impacting you way more than your average person. You're taking in way more of it. Um, you only need a teeny tiny little bit to have the same reaction. I promise. Yes.
SPEAKER_00So, so true. I wanna I want to talk about intuition um because I think you know, so much of how we operate in our world is like there's certain steps that we think we have to follow. There's a certain way we think we need to show up in order to achieve our goals. And you people in my audience are, you know, creatives and entrepreneurs and actors and writers and directors and you know, the full spectrum. But when we try to show up in like that super rigid, this is the way society tells you to achieve our goals, sometimes we actually really get disconnected from our creativity and it doesn't work super well. So I'd love to talk a little bit about what intuition is and how people can connect with it.
SPEAKER_04Okay. This is a huge topic, and I want to give you not a four-hour answer. So let me do my best here. Very simply speaking, you are a soul having a physical experience, right? And enter your own words here, like that everybody has different ways of saying this, and that's fine. So you're this great big soul, and part of you gets broadcasted into the human experience to have to animate this amazing meat suit and jump around and do stuff, right? And there's still a great big soul that knows a lot of stuff, has been around a long time, has whether you like the idea of reincarnation or not, there's there's a something, right? That is here projected in this body, but not all of it. And when we come into this body, we have to sort of diminish its um, oh, what's that concept in theater? Suspended disbelief, suspended disbelief. So think about that. We have to come into a 3D reality and we have to be like, okay, I suddenly don't know everything that I knew, but there's a part of you that still knows all that, that is aware of past, present, and future because time only exists in this reality, in this 3D experience, that is aware of the divine, whatever you want to call it, that is aware of all of this stuff. And that part of you is still connected to you. I call it higher self, you could call it inner being, um, soul, spirit, whatever. Um, I I they're all great words and I like them all. Um, that part of you is your intuition. That part of you is the part of you that is giving the nudges when you're like, I don't know, I just feel really compelled to call this person right now. And they're like, I can't believe you called me today of all days. And they burst into tears. They're like, I needed this, thank you. Or I was just picking up the phone to call you. I all these things that we we we call them synchronicities or coincidences, right? It's the part of you that gives the nudge that's like, do this project, the part of you that's like sending those creative impulses and and it is broadcasting to you 24-7 in a hundred thousand different platforms. So if you imagine it's got its own podcast, it's got its own radio frequency, and it's got its own, like it's all day long it's sending you these messages and they're coming through, and you're you're getting little niggles of them here and there. You might pick up this and you might pick up that. And um sometimes you might have had those moments where somehow you just you're a little more aware and you recognize how much is actually coming. Um, and it's comical in those moments when you when you get a little glimpse of like, oh my gosh, like now it's getting comical, the amount of all right, all right, okay, I hear you. So everybody has this. Everybody has this all the time. And we all have different ways that it's easier for us to perceive it. So those of us who are feelers, we might get a sense in our body that's like lights us up. We feel the like lean forward when it's like someone says, Hey, do you want to go do this thing? And we're just like, my whole body lit up is yes. And I just knew in that moment. Some of us are really visual and we might close our eyes and have a really vivid dream or a meditation or something and See these really elaborate messages coming through. It might just be a book that falls off a shelf and opens to a page, and you're like, oh, that answers everything. You might pull a card out of a deck. There's no end to the number of ways you're going to get messages. My childhood friends made endless fun of me when they were trying to get me to break up with a guy they thought wasn't good for me for a really long time. And then one day I was driving to his house and an eagle flew down and hovered while I was on the freeway in front of the windshield of my car for seconds, which is endless when you're going 65. And I was like, oh my God. And this bird is hovering, flying directly in front of my car. And I was like, I have to break up with this guy. And my friends were like, Are you acting serious, Kara? And laughing at me, of course. They're like, of course, of course. Kara had an eagle. Of course. I think it was a hawk, actually. Like, whatever. Kara had, oh, she'll she'll listen to the hawk, but she won't listen to us. So messages are coming in all sorts of ways. And as we get good at tapping into those, it's like learning how to recruit teeny tiny muscle groups in the body. When you go to the gym and you're like, yeah, I know how to do this with a bicep or a or a quad. Like, and then someone's like, okay, take this tiny little band and then twist in this direction. And you're like, what is this tiny? This is so hard. Because you've never used that tiny stabilizer muscle, right? Yeah. So the more we practice with our different forms and ways of connecting to intuition, the more clear the information comes until you can just sit and have a conversation. And the more we learn to trust it. And that's a really tricky bugaboo, I think, sometimes for people when they begin on this journey, because we assume that answers are linear and that they are single, because we're asking a single question.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04Should I go on this date? Is that what we what we mean is, is this the dude I'm gonna marry? And your higher self is like what they want to be able to say is, okay, well, that's a very complex answer. And the the long version is yes, you need to go out with him and you need to date him for like six weeks, and you're gonna need to think that he's the one, but then you're gonna need to find out that he's not, because then this is the way that you learn that you actually don't want someone like this, but you do want someone like this, but he has these skills and all through that you're really learning and you're growing and you're healing that wound back from your mom and the thing, and the and then that was in is it gonna be there for the next relationship, which is gonna be one step closer. And then so what you get is a yes, and then six weeks later, when that blows up, you're like, my intuition was wrong. No, it wasn't not at all. It was absolutely right, it was just way more complex than you had the ability to understand or needed to know at that moment.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, so so relate to this because like, you know, I started doing this work with Kara in 2021. So it's been like almost five years now that I've been practicing. And um my my intuition or like what I call like my clairvoyance has gotten like so much stronger. But then I have like these hits, and I'm like, does this hit mean what I think it means? And I'm like, I don't know because it hasn't happened or not happened yet. Maybe it could happen, or maybe there's another reason why my you know, my intuition, my guides want me to believe that this is going to happen so that something else happens, right? And so it is kind of like a funny game, but it is fun. And let's talk about that because um your business name is Playful Spirituality, and I always thought that that was so cool for many, many reasons. But I think like um when I came to this work, I was healing from years of like highly masculine like coaching techniques and energies and highly masculine, you know, goal setting structures. And so the idea of play in terms of like creating the life that I want seems so obscure. So can you chat talk about that a little bit and like the play of this work and what that's like?
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes, yes, yes. So in in the course of when I do a reading for someone, I'm I begin it by asking and then connecting to their higher self, their soul, their their intuition, right? And having the conversation with that part of them. And I have done thousands of these over the years, and I have never met a higher self that wasn't funny and playful and irreverent and I mean, and and full of love, more than anything full of love. But I have there has never been doom, gloom, guilt. We could be talking about really serious things, and the amount of love that they're sending is like overwhelming, and still, like there is a playfulness, there is a lightheartedness, there's there's um, there is a joy there. And I think a lot of people, you know, it you look around and you're like, okay, God's got a sense of humor. You look at a platypus or something, and you're like, or something happens in your life and you're like, that can't have been a mistake. Whatever it is that's out there, anything, any name you want to have for it, like it's gotta have a sense of humor. And the answer is yes, yes. The universe has an amazing sense of humor. And the more you interact with it, the more fun it gets um to be like in with the the playfulness of all of it. But I think the other place that that comes from is like the more healing work that we do, the lighter we sort of become, and the more we're able to um like the joy that I have the capacity to feel, I wanna say, I want to say it's hard one, but I also want to get away from that old story of like that I I'm only allowed to feel this happy because I went through hell and back. You know what I mean? There's a part of me that feels like I need to justify that because we say it's a bad thing, and I don't want to do that. So, whatever it is, however I got here, I'm able to experience a lot of joy. I'm able to experience a lot of feelings period as a sensitive person. Probably most of you are like nodding your head at that and rolling your eyes along with me. Like, yes, so much. We've we're the big feelings people. So why not have big joy too? It's my question. Like, why are why do we always stop ourselves from that, from that piece? So the playfulness in it, I think is important. I also think it's really important that we don't take ourselves so seriously. Like all of it, if we can play irreverently with all of it, it's healthier and it's better and we're closer to our alignment, being in sync with that version of ourselves than when we're getting a little too heady and a little too serious about it.
SPEAKER_00So let's talk a little bit about Mastery Magic. Tell people what it is, and yeah, let's start from there.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so this is a course built from the techniques that I was taught. The teacher who most of this work came through, her name is Nancy Anagnost, and she is incredible. And it's work that I don't I wish I could tell you a name for it, right? That people like a recognizable name, but it doesn't have one. It's it's eons old. We know that some of the lineages come from ancient Egypt and ancient Asia. Um, and it's stuff that has been passed down teacher to teacher to teacher. And and and I really think that there was probably a time in history when this was more at least I like I like to think. I just like to think that there was a time in history when this was a little more mainstream. But these are the the meditation and energy work tools, and I'll kind of explain what that means. It sounds very woo-woo, but when you really get into it, it's so practical to be able to impact your life, every aspect of your life. It's a five-month course, which sounds really long, but everybody at the end is like, what? No, I don't want it to stop. It's so fun. And so we're doing, I'm teaching these tools and these meditations, and in the process of that, you're learning how to connect with your intuition and all of these through these through these tools, but building those intuitive gifts and abilities. Um so let me give you like a really practical example of how it works in life. So the other day, my partner and I we we were having a day where we were like misfiring. You know what I mean? And people had come over, there had been a huge storm here, huge, like record-breaking, major destruction kind of storm. We live um in Maui. And friends came over to help us like try to replant these trees that had uprooted in our yard. We had our three-year-old there, still kind of raining. We're in the midst of the storm. So the energy was already a thing. And he and I just lit up like two sparks. And we it was just abrasive. And I come upstairs and I'm and I'm like so angry I can't breathe. I'm so, and I'm not usually I don't usually get that mad. This was like, I want to hulk smash the world, is how I felt. And if I had been someone who was like physically able to put a fist through drywall, I would have done it for the like satisfaction of it in that moment. I am not. So it would have just been really frustrating and hurt my hand really bad, which made me even more mad. So here I was having all this anger, and finally I was like, nothing, nothing is working in in ultimate drama. Nothing is working, and I'm I'm going for a run. And I grabbed my shoes and I go out the door and I'm too upset to run. So I'm walking through the neighborhood and the wind is still howling and the wind is helping, and I finally settle a little bit enough to hear my higher self say, Hey Kara, you should probably do these tools. And she listed off like six or seven tools that we learned in Master Your Magic. And I was like, Oh, okay, yeah. And I'm still pretty upset. So I keep moving and I start doing them while I'm walking. Mostly we would sit down to do these in meditation, but this is what I had available to me. And they were tools about clearing energy in my house, putting up protection around my house, clearing off the energy. And I I broadened that out to like, let me just clear a bigger space, let me do my whole block and then let me like expand and do a clearing for the island, a clearing for my energy, an update to my relationship so that we stopped misfiring, we could communicate clearly, uh, getting all of other people's energy off me because most of the anger I was feeling wasn't even mine, which is why I couldn't process it. It's like when you get a bite of gristle in your mouth and you can't chew it because it's like it doesn't go anywhere, right? That's what it's like when you have a bunch of energy that isn't yours. You're like feeling it and feeling it and feeling it and feeling it, and it's not moving the way it should, like getting out. And so you're spinning in an emotion, really, really stuck in it. It's mostly probably not yours.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes it's not yours at all.
SPEAKER_04Usually there was a little bit that you were feeling. So I was a little bit mad. I had a little annoyed, and that's just enough to make you a perfect match for the vibration of it coming. And then I just took on, you know, here we have a whole island that's all dysregulated and upset about like the the frequency from this storm, and I brought it all into me and was a volcano for that moment. So by the time I come back, I do these practices and maybe five minutes long. I am all the way back now, one end of the spectrum to the other, all the way back, wide open-hearted. I love my partner so much. I love my family so much. I got a huge smile on my face. The world is euphoric, everything is wonderful again. I walk into the house and he looks at me and he's like, I love you so much. Sorry for getting mad. Now, if if I hadn't done that, we would not have recovered that quickly at all. He was like a different person the rest of the day. I was wide open, loving. He keeps looking at me with like these batting his eyelashes and just like with all this adoration and love. Because we had gotten all the gunk out of the way. So these are tools that impact your life in a practical, practical way. Relationships, work, emotion, stress, um, parenting, child raising, whatever it is. I had somebody reach out, a student who's taken the course multiple times, because you can take it for free after you've taken it, like come back again and again. And she reached out and she was like, Kara, tell which tools do I use? I have somebody crossing boundaries with me and copying all of my work. Plagiarism. Yeah. And it's been going on for years, and she keeps distancing herself and trying to figure out how to make it stop. And I was like, Oh, okay, no problem. One question is this somebody you want to keep in your life or no? Because there's very different set of if so, do these four things, and if not, do these four things. Right, right. So there's tools that help us impact um everything that's going on in our lives because we are energetic beings. Yeah. Did that kind of make sense, do you think? Did I please?
SPEAKER_00Oh my God, I think it made so much sense. And I just want to highlight the fact that this five-month course like flies by. Um, if you're the kind of person who struggles with meditation and you don't like meditating and it doesn't work for you, this is so different. And I think like I found it at a moment when I really um I was going through some health stuff. So I was always very physical and I couldn't exercise and move the way I was used to. And so my energy was getting really, really stuck because that was the way I normally processed it, um, which is why I found out I had all these gifts, right? Um, and what I discovered is what when I sat down to do these practices, these energy work practices, it was like instead of sitting in meditation for half an hour and having your mind wander like 20 million times, you have something very specific that you're trying to do and you're, you know, thinking it and intending it so that you're not in law, you're not like your brain can't go anywhere because you're telling, you're using your brain to tell you how to get there. You're giving it a map. And once you have that map, you kind of drop into that like deeper meditative state that maybe you've like tapped into at the end of a yoga class when you're in Shivasana and you're like just kind of go somewhere, but it just happens um quick, quick, more quickly and more organically. Um, so I think like I never had a problem doing this. Sometimes people are like, oh, I'm not made up motivated to do my practices, but it's like I always feel so good when I do them. And I I almost like I always set a timer when I sit down to do these practices because I will literally stay in it for hours because it feels so good, you know. Like, occasionally my my higher self will like nudge me and tell me, okay, it's time to stop. But I would probably do these things like three hours a day if I could because it feels so good.
SPEAKER_04And the truth is, like most of the time we can get done what we need to do in like a couple minutes. Yes. Um, I mean, better if you want to stay in it and enjoy it and savor it, like, yes. But also, yeah, for the people who are like, I hate meditation and I try to meditate for 20 minutes a day, and it was like, and then you just feel unsuccessful because you're just trying to not think, and that's literally the only thing your mind is designed for. So you're battling against it be like trying to stop your heartbeat, and then you're like, Why couldn't I stop my heartbeat? Well, it's really hard to do, and this is not like that, it is not like that. You will not have that frustration and unsuccessful feeling.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think the weird, the weird part is like when I went into this program, I was like, I think I have gifts, but I'm not sure. And I think the thing that people need to know is that we all, one, we all have these gifts. And two, if you're feeling inspired and interested in doing this work, you absolutely can't fail. You will be able to tap into this. Yeah. Um and yeah, there's like no, I mean, I've taken I've I only took it live once, and then I did um Kara offers an advanced course so that you can learn to do this work with other people, which is a huge foundation of my practice. But I only did it live a few times. But what I but what I discovered is like this community is also so amazing and so supportive. And so, you know, and you've got everyone there from people who are doing it the first time like you, and also people who've been doing this for, you know, five years like me, or Kara's been doing this for 20 years. So there are some people in there who've been doing it that long as well. And so you've got this massive community to draw from and to use as support, which is really, really incredible.
SPEAKER_04And it's so helpful. I don't the reason I don't ever teach this work one-on-one is that the amount of benefit people get from seeing how different it is for different people really helps us to blossom in our understanding of like, oh, the way that this is coming through to me is a huge indicator of what my gifts are. Because look how different it is for all of us. And I can see the validity in that person who gets it that way, and that person who gets it that way, and that person who gets it that way. So the way that I must I'm getting it must also be valid. And that's something that I can't, I like my words won't teach that. People have to see it and experience it with a group, um, which is so beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think it's so powerful too, because it really puts, it really puts the power in you as an individual, because I think that sometimes in sort of a coach relationship or a healer relationship, you're sort of putting it on the healer or the coach to do the work for you. And I, you know, the way I talk about my work, and and I, and I know this is similar to the way you work, Kara, is that this is really a a guidance relationship. Um, and it's like we're showing people the way to do this stuff for themselves so that this isn't about creating a dependency. This is about creating a support ecosystem and um helping you elevate to your own next level. And we're always going to need support because we can always learn from people who are farther along than we are, but it's giving you a lot of power to, you know, create your own reality and show up for yourself. And that is huge.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I love that. I have no desire to be anybody's guru. When people are ready to be on this path, like they're gonna be on this path. And if I get lucky enough to be picked, called on to be one of the people who gets to be like a cheerleader and a helper and a guide along some part of your journey, no greater honor. It's like the best thing ever. And I get to be the lucky one in that scenario, not the other way around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, so, so, so true. So, if you want to learn more about Master Your Magic, I'm gonna be including the link for you in the show notes. I am including my own affiliate link. If you sign up through me, I'm gifting you a 30-minute private one-on-one healing session with me as a little bonus. So, um, and if you have questions about the program, feel free to reach out via email or DM me on Instagram or Substack or whatever other platforms you can find me. I'm happy to chat about it. And I don't know, Kara, what if there's one thing that you find is the most helpful for people in taking this leap towards learning this work, what would it be?
SPEAKER_04I love your resistance. Um I I I recorded a whole podcast episode actually, and I brought on a couple of students who had been like super resistant and were backing out of the course and then wound up taking it. And we've talked through. And I think our our skepticism is valid and healthy and wonderful. And our our resistance is valid and healthy and wonderful. It doesn't mean that you can't uh do something that you're scared of. It doesn't mean there's it's a piece of you that's trying to keep you safe. And the most exciting part of it is that when resistance pops up, it's like a a flashing strobe light telling you, like, right here is where to do the work. Like, here's the oui. Put a band-aid here, please. Here's a piece of you that needs so much love. Here's a piece of you that is freaked the F out. Here's a piece of you that is scared or got hurt once when you were little or whatever it is. So many people. Speaking of getting hurt when you're little, so many people are sensitive when they're young. When we're young, we're so tapped in. We're so tapped in. And then it gets squished, you know, by society or by whatever. My imaginary friend said this, or my friend, and like that's imaginary, or you know, great grandma so and so. What? She's been dead for a hundred years. You've never met her. What are you talking about? Don't say that. That's scary. Like, mom, there's a person standing over there, I could see them, or like they just kids say things and it freaks people out, you know, and and then they learn. To shut that down. And whatever it might be in some dramatic way or some little way, uh, where we, you know, why are you sad? And then there are person's uncomfortable that you would ask them that when they didn't tell you that. And you notice that they're uncomfortable. So you notice not to be right, like big or subtle, we shut this stuff down. And so then there's little pieces inside of us that are like, uh-uh, like stay away from this. It, this this is scary, and this is scary. So when that resistance comes up, that's that's a chance to sit down and wrap your arms around some piece and listen. What are you scared of? What can I do to make you feel safe? What this is something I think I might like to do. What why are you afraid of it? What would what information do you need? What can we go out and get to help soothe? Like, oh, well, I'm really scared that I'm not gifted. And I don't want to find out that I'm not. So I'd rather not do it. Oh, okay. Well, like let's ask Kara. Let's ask Natalie. Let's go, let's go see. Like, here's the here's this piece of me that has a fear. Like, let me explore it and let me hold this part of myself and listen to the fear and love up on it. So I think that's and that's I valuable, whether it's this or anything else. Yeah. Um we don't want to bulldoze past it. And we also don't want to never do anything because of resistance.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yes. So, so important. I'll be sure to drop the link for that episode in the show notes as well so that you can have a listen if you are also feeling resistant. Before we wrap up today, this has been such a great conversation. Thank you so, so much for being here. I just want to do a couple of really quick fire questions that we're going to be asking all of the guests who come on the Embodied Way podcast. So I'll try to keep it, you know, maybe about a sentence. And um, so so the first one, what does embodiment mean to you? Presence.
SPEAKER_04And I think it's a spectrum. Again, it's it's like there are depths of it. So we can be kind of present, like, you know, I'm not spaced out, I'm here, or we can be deeply, deeply present where everything feels euphoric because we're so aware of what a miracle it is to be here experiencing life.
SPEAKER_00I love that. All right. So uh what's a daily practice that's really supporting you and staying present in this season of your life?
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay. Well, I'm in the new motherhood season. So um many meditations, like very, very, very short ones are very are helping and constantly reminding myself that this experience of mothering someone as growing is fleeting. And it reminds me to do what I can to enjoy it, even when it's hard, even when it's exhausting, even when so I'm reminding myself to like be here because this is fleeting. And that's been really that's been powerful.
SPEAKER_00All right. What's really inspiring you right now?
SPEAKER_04Oh so you mentioned that um I've taken a hiatus. I took a hiatus from teaching. After 17 years of teaching, I I stopped uh to have a baby and it's been three years now. And what is inspiring me and and giving me all the momentum to come like forward and and do this again is uh the past students who've done it and their excitement and desire for this. Um, it's it's like I'm uh it's carrying me forward on on this like wave of electricity in it's really, really I feel so, so grateful, so grateful. As soon as we opened the cart for um alumni to sign up, there was a flood of people coming in to register to take it again, like past students coming in, and they were like, Thank God we've been waiting. And there's this been this, there's an excitement in there that that is inspiring me and um uh carrying me through uh the work that is required.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. That is really inspiring and magical. And yeah, thinking about the incredible work that everyone is doing, who I have encountered through Master Your Magic, is also really incredible because there's something really inspiring about the butterfly effect of the work that you've been sharing with people, and then how that transcends and moves into the work that they're doing and then affects the people in their life and how that keeps moving out and out and out. And that is how we change the world, right? One person at a time.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_00All right. Any final thoughts you'd like to share before we wrap?
SPEAKER_04I'm just so grateful. And the smile on my face is gonna carry at least through the rest of the day. This has been so fun, and I love spending time with you. Thank you.
