Walk With Me
Day 38: Romans 16: 17-20: Watch for Division
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Stay rooted in truth and trust God's ultimate victory.
Paul gives one final warning: Watch out for people who create division and pull others away from sound teaching.
The early church faced false teaching, manipulation, and confusion just like believers do today. Paul encourages believers to stay grounded in truth and wisdom. Then he reminds them: God's victory over evil is certain. The enemy does not have the final word.
Reflection: What helps keep you spiritually grounded and discerning?
Dig Deeper: Why is unity connected to truth, not just peace?
Welcome to day 38. Today our theme is watch for division. And we're reading from Romans chapter 16, verses 17 through 20. Here are our reflection questions today. What helps keep you spiritually grounded and discerning? And why is unity connected to truth, not just peace? Let's read our text. Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who create divisions and obstacles contrary to the teaching that you learned. Avoid them, because such people do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites. They deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting with smooth talk and flattering words. The report of your obedience has reached everyone. Therefore I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise about what is good and yet innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. That's the end of our passage for today. Let's dig in. Paul is closing Romans with both encouragement and warning. He tells believers to watch out for people who create division and confusion. And this was already happening in the early church. Not every spiritual voice was or is healthy. Some distorted the gospel for influence, power, or personal gain. And Paul says believers need discernment. That matters today because we live in a world full of opinions, content, and competing messages. Not everything labeled Christian actually reflects Jesus accurately. So how do we as believers stay grounded? By staying connected to scripture, community, prayer, and truth centered in Christ. Paul is not calling believers into paranoia. He's calling them into wisdom. And then he gives this incredible reminder. That points all the way back to Genesis 3, the first promise that evil would ultimately be defeated through the offspring to come. Paul is reminding believers that the story is moving toward victory. Even when evil feels loud, temporary battles do not change the final outcome. Christ wins. And that gives believers confidence to remain faithful. You know, I love to give you some songs that I think of as we're reading texts. And if you haven't heard, you've already won. It's one of our favorites to sing during worship. Um, but definitely it's this concept that he has already won. Um, the bridge says, I know how this story ends. We will be with you again. And if we can live our lives understanding that, that it has already been won. The victory has already been won by Christ. We stand in his victory. It does change our ability to be obedient, and it is an overflow of the of the grace that we've been saved through that is secure. And how amazing is that! What a blessing! I look forward to tomorrow. Tomorrow's our last day in Romans. Wow, love you guys.
