Reflection: What promise of God do you need to hold onto today?
Hello everyone. Today we're talking about peace and faith. We're in Ephesians chapter six, verse 15 and 16. Let's be together. And your feet sandal with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every situation, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Amen. That's the word of God. Let's get into this. The gospel gives believers steady footing and a shield against the lies, fears, and temptations that come our way. Christ's peace anchors us, and faith enables us to trust his promises even when circumstances are uncertain. Faith stands firm because it rests in God's faithfulness. Let's dig deeper. Roman soldiers wore heavy sandals with thick leather soles and metal studs that gave them traction on uneven ground. Paul compares that stability to the gospel of peace. The gospel doesn't promise an easy path, it promises secure footing. Then comes the shield. Roman shields were large enough to protect nearly the entire body. Before battle, soldiers often soaked them in water. When flaming arrows struck, they were extinguished. Paul says faith works similarly. The enemy's arrows today often come as fear, accusation, shame, comparison, discouragement, temptation. Faith isn't pretending those arrows don't exist. Faith is trusting that God's promises are more reliable than our fears. Let's cover some vocabulary from today. Faith. The definition of faith is active trust in God's character and promises. The definition of peace is wholeness and reconciliation with God through Christ. Faith stands firm because it rests in God's faithfulness. Let's end with our reflection question today.
