Reflection: How can you intentionally create more space for Scripture and prayer this week?
Hello everyone. Welcome to day 34. Today we're talking about salvation, scripture, and prayer. We're in Ephesians 6, verses 17 through 20. Let's read together. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should. Amen. That is the word of God. Today Paul completes the armor with the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, and continual prayer. God's word shapes our minds, prayer keeps us dependent on him, and the assurance of salvation gives us confidence to stand faithfully in every season. God equips his people through his word, his spirit, and continual prayer. Let's break the passage down a little bit more. The helmet protected the soldier's head. Paul points to salvation, not because believers fear losing it every day, but because confidence in Christ guards the mind against despair and accusation. The only offensive weapon listed is the sword. The word used refers to a short Roman sword used in close combat. Paul identifies it as the word of God. More specifically, the Greek word is rima, God's spoken or applied word. Jesus demonstrated this during his temptation in the wilderness. Each temptation was answered with scripture rightly understood. Now notice what surrounds the armor. Prayer. Paul mentions prayer four different times in just two verses. The armor isn't a magical formula. It is lived out through constant dependence on God. Finally, Paul asks for prayer, not for release, not for comfort, not for safety, but for boldness. The gospel mattered more to Paul than his circumstances. Let's cover some vocabulary again from today. Rema, the Greek word, meant God's word applied and spoken into specific situations. And the word boldness, which means confident faithfulness in speaking and living the gospel. Remember, God equips his people through his word, his spirit, and continual prayer. As we close today, let's reflect on this question. How can you intentionally create more space for scripture and prayer this week?
