In this episode, I sit down with professional wrestler, musician, YouTuber, and JK Today Show host Kadin Anthony for a fun, laid-back conversation over a couple of beers. We dive into his journey in professional wrestling, discussing how he got started, his tag team history, career highlights, and the accolades he's earned along the way. Um I guess I wanted to talk a little bit about actually before we begin, if you could kind of tell us a little bit about you, like where you grew up, um, just so the fans, you know, the people, the fans can know like who they're talking, who they're listening to.

All right. Well, I grew up right here in Orchid my whole life. All right. Um I'm uh husband, father, son, uh, brother. Uh you covered the rest, I think.

Yeah, and uh for those of you that listened on uh on a previous episode, I had your wife here, Vanessa. Uh she spoke a little bit about the wrestling, and I got it, I got very intrigued. I'm not gonna lie, man. I was like, dude, I got it'd be awesome to have her husband come on. Thank you once again, like I said. Yeah, appreciate it. She reached out, yeah. Yeah, she reached out and she was like, Yeah, let me ask him. And then uh all of a sudden, like uh a couple weeks ago, she's like, Yeah, he'll do it. He'll he'll come on the show. And I was like, Oh, that's fantastic.

Yeah, so if you don't mind, man, we're gonna get a little bit into the wrestling stuff. But um, you said you grew up out here in the an Orchid uh area. Um for those of you to know Orchid, it's in the central coast. Uh here in the beautiful state of California. For those listeners that are not from Cali, um, it's a beautiful place. Uh we're known for uh Tri-Tip. We're known for the beach out here. Santa Maria, if you know. Santa Maria, Santa Maria Barbecue. Yeah, Santa Maria Tri-Tip. Um yeah, and and the Santa Maria, speaking of Santa Maria, the Tri-Tib, uh, it's actually all the way in Hawaii, too. Uh there's a spot out there in Kauai, uh, and they do Santa Maria Tri-Tip. Uh, the owners, they came from Santa Maria Orchid area and they retired out there in Hawaii.

Yeah, and Kawaii is not that big of an island, too. It's one actually one of my favorites. Uh we frequently go out there, but uh I think it's for me it's less touristy. Yeah, so it doesn't feel like you're it with the big crowds. I don't know. It's the only island I've been to. So if you go to the other islands, like the big island or Oahu, it's just more people, it's more congested. Yeah, so yeah. All right, man. So let's get let's get started, man. Let's get straight into it. So uh tell me a little bit about your wrestling career, man. So um I did a little research and uh I I got I got to I looked you up and stuff, but I want to hear from you, man. How did you get into wrestling first and foremost?

Uh well, I mean, I've always been a wrestling fan since I remember like five years old, whatever it was. I can't even remember all I remember is wrestling. Okay. Walking into my cousin's house, seeing like the uh Legion of Doom or the Road Warrior Road Wars. Oh, yeah, I remember the Road Warriors, yeah. I'm the Ultimate Warrior, and you know, it's just it just drew me in. Yeah. So that I've been a I've been a fan my whole life.

Well, I was gonna say, who was your favorite wrestler?

So I mean Ultimate Warrior really drew my attention. Okay. Legion of Doom.

Yeah.

Uh but the the guy I really like really was into was Bret Hart. Oh, Bret Hart, yeah. He was like my first man. The hitman. The hitman. The hitman, Bret Hart, yeah. He was my guy, and then and then Shawn Michaels, and then The Heartbreak Kid. Yeah, yeah.

And then so so you just so much your cousin's house and yeah, so I've always been, you know, wrestling in my wrestling with friends or whatever. We used to have our own trampoline wrestling federation and uh and carried it on into high school. Yeah. Uh ended up meeting this one guy that was really into wrestling as much as I was. Okay. Uh Kid Omega, Shane Patterson. Oh, is he is he a wrestler out of the we we ended up going um so freshman year, uh, so the wrestling school actually opened up here in Santa Maria uh 2001. Oh, right, okay. That's when I started training. Got it. Um, actually, my friend was doing gymnastics at at Jump and Go Gymnastics, and he he called me up. He's like, dude, you gotta get down here right now. There's a wrestling ring. Oh damn. It's like, what? And uh so we we all booked it down there. Yep, there was a wrestling ring there, and uh ended up being this guy, uh Billy Blade.

And he didn't be my tag team partner. Okay. Um, so he so he he kind of trained us. So he he was like only a year into the business. Got it. Uh, when he's opened up his wrestling gym. Okay. So he really shouldn't have even been training people. Uh but he was. But he was, but it was great because before that, uh all all I knew of was uh all pro wrestling yeah in San Francisco or uh I can't I can't remember the name of the town. Um somewhere in the Bay are is it somewhere in the Bay Area? Yeah Up north Hayward.

Uh it was either that or like San Bernardino at the school Hard Knox. Yeah. So so that's what I was gonna do. Like I was just waiting until I turned 18. That's why I was gonna do go go train and be a pro wrestler. I was either that or go to Massachusetts. Oh damn, that's too far. Because I I have some family out there, okay. Uh, but there was uh Killer Kowalski school was out there. Okay. Uh but then then out of nowhere found a wrestling wrestling school right here in my home. Here, that's that's crazy. Well, that's what I'm doing. Yeah. We had a hor our whole backyard crew. There was like six, seven, eight of us. I don't know. We all went down there, started training. Uh pretty much everyone dropped like flies. Oh, really? Except for like three or four of us. We all kind of stuck it out.

Got the training in, started doing some, you know, shows with just like family and friends and stuff, and then uh yeah, just kept going from there.

I mean, I I I must I can't I mean I can only imagine that the training is pretty brutal.

Um is it very repetitive or I mean our training was pretty uh relaxed compared to a lot of other schools. Um mainly because Billy was still learning how it got it, okay. So like so uh so we kind of ended up training each other. Oh, okay, in a sense. Yeah, yeah. Like because he was teaching some stuff that I'd be like, oh that's I don't think that's right. Yeah. Just because I would watch wrestling all the time, I would just I would just know just from watching. Right. So um so like I would end up correcting him on some stuff. I'm like, no, I think it's supposed to be this way, yeah. And we and then so I don't want to toot my own horn, but but I ended up being like the best of the of the class.

So uh so he ended up like choosing me, right? Like we're we're gonna be a tag team. Oh yeah, so so we were a tag team. Um kind of just stuck around here for the first uh two or three years. Yeah. Then he's then he uh started bringing up some people from Anaheim. Okay, uh some lucha luchadores. Luchadores, uh, brought a bunch of luchadores up here, they came in, they were just they were flipping, bouncing all over the place.

Is that is that a different style? Like from like the luchadores, like from Mexico or whatever. Is it different?

SPEAKER_04 7:57

Yeah, I mean there's yeah, there's your tradition traditional American like TV wrestling, right? Right. Then there's lucha libre, uh, whatever triple A's is it triple A? Triple A, C M L L. Yeah. Uh that's Mexico. Uh whereas it's like the same, but it's different. Okay. Um like in America, uh uh you kind of work with the left. A lot of a lot is with the left arm. Okay. And in Mexico, it's a lot is with the right, but they also switch. Oh, okay. So it can be confusing and can get people off if you don't know what's going on. Um, and then like Japan, uh strong style. Okay. And they're like uh really like fighting spirit. Okay. So um so you it all kind of blends together. You can kind of make your own. It's like art. Okay. Okay. It's like you're painting, you're painting your own keys.

You got your own like different styles, right? Yeah. Okay.

Yeah, it's like it's all universal, you know, but yeah.

Yeah, I know. I uh growing up as a kid, man, we used to go to Tijuana and we used to go to the we used to always go to the matches, man, and those mat they're those guys are flying like from the top robe all the way into the crowd and stuff like that. Those guys are crazy, man. So uh I don't know, like they're really intense. Like, uh and then they would rip their mask off and then like they had to like cut their hair with whoever lost or whatever. Mask versus max. Yeah, exactly. Mask versus mask. It's crazy though.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. I I enjoy it. Uh, I still watch wrestling, man, to this day. I still watch wrestling.

I hardly even watch anymore. No. Uh like, yeah, nowadays it's so hard. It's like there's so much wrestling now. Yeah. Like when I was a kid, you know, you would wait for Monday night, right? Oh, yeah. And then if you missed it, yeah, you're out of luck, right? Right, right. You'd have to wait till maybe the weekend and watch like the highlight replay show, you know. Uh, but now there's like oh the replays, yeah. But now there's like 12 hours at least of wrestling a week. Oh, yeah. There's multiple companies.

WrestleMania, now back in the days it was like one a one-day event. Now it's like multi two days, right?

So yeah, it's it's out of control now. So I can't keep up with it. So nowadays I just kind of watch the highlights on YouTube, yeah, and just kind of keep up and listen to the podcast.

Yeah, I usually do like the the replays or whatever. Um, I I think I don't know if it's some of the of the matches. I don't know. Correct me if I'm wrong, man. Netflix, does Netflix have some wrestling now going on on Netflix?

I think I think Monday Night Raw's on Netflix.

Yeah, I think Peacock for a while. I was watching Peacock, and they had everything on Peacock, Peacock, even like you can watch like the documentaries from wrestlers from back in the days or whatever. You can watch like all the SummerSlams, all the WrestleManias, but uh they took it away. I think it's Paramount now. I don't know.

Uh it's mostly on on Netflix now. Netflix. They used to have the the their own WWE network, yeah, which is awesome. That's what I used to watch. Yeah, it's incredible. But I don't, you know, yeah, man. Apparently you could still get it like uh through like a VPN in other countries. Oh, okay.

I don't I don't yeah, those little secret little boxes or whatever. A lot of it's on YouTube now. Yeah, I mean you can find stuff nowadays anywhere. Yeah, so would you be considered uh a babyface or a heel?

Uh you know what? One of the matches I saw was uh I don't know, four years ago. There was one that I was watching the this this morning, actually. It was from four years ago, 2022. Okay. Um Sen Cal, is it Sen Cal Pro Wrestling? Yeah, yeah. Uh I saw one of the matches there. You were fighting, it was like a triple, triple threat match or something. Okay. It was you and some other two guys. Uh guy with a mask. I can't think of the name right now.

Like, I I'm friends with some of the guys. Yeah, I'm you know, they don't care. Yeah, they they say it, but you know, everything's still I mean, yeah, everything's political now.

Like, I don't know, you guys do you guys call them promotions, like your earlier promotions when you first started wrestling? Um, like, what was can you kind of take us back to like your first match? Like, what was that like? Where was this at? Like, if you can remember.

I really don't even remember.

No, you don't remember my first match.

It's a blur. Um, because like when we're trained as we were training, we would do like student shows, you know? Yeah. So it would just be like our friends and family. Right, right, right. And and they're terrible. They're terrible matches. Um but I would consider like once we once we got out of our little training gym, yeah. We started traveling, we actually got to all pro wrestling up in up in Hayward. Okay. I I think that's when I would really start to cons uh I would really say that's those were my first. Okay, gotcha, gotcha. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Even though it's all pro wrestling, but it was like a a bigger audience, you know.

So would you say like that's when you would consider yourself like uh I'm officially uh you know, you you've made it. Would you say that or like when you started doing shows like that, like in Hayward? Or was there a moment when you're like, dude, yeah, I'm I'm here.

2009. 2009 was when I when I started in 01, right?

Uh I I would say like 05, 06, like I really started to like grasp right what I was doing. Like, because before that I did I I would just memorize I would just try to memorize everything. Uh I wasn't a worker, right? Okay. Yeah. Uh but that like every every every wrestler, it happens to every wrestler, like yeah, all of a sudden it just clicks. Right. Like you're like, oh, I get it.

Like uh you're not just you're you're you're not just trying to re memorize everything, right? Right. Everything like even though sometimes it's like that, but um you have to know how to work, right? Okay, you have to know how to call it in the ring. Yeah, yeah. Uh yeah, because wrestling's universal, so like you have to be able to call it on the fly because you never know if something goes wrong, uh something is because things can things change, right?

Sometimes they change. A rope can break, right?

I've I've hit the ropes and the top rope broke on the room. Oh damn. I like almost fell out of the ring. Damn. And we're like, what do we do now? You know? Uh but yeah, yeah, once we started traveling more, that's when I really uh started, you know.

So yeah, because I was looking at some of your stats here. Like, uh, so I'm looking at here working you worked with NWA and Pro Wrestling Revolution. Yes. Okay, so uh uh what's anticipation? 2008, Supremacy 2008, Cold Fury 2009? Are those like special events you did?

Those are just names of the shows.

Oh, okay, okay. Because um, yeah, those are like the highlights that popped up when I when I when I looked up your name.

So Yeah, every show has a different name. Okay. Like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Backlash, you know, just like every show has a a name.

Any favorites from back those back in those days? Anything that I mentioned here, anything that you remember that was like, oh, you know, that was pretty cool.

So if you would have told me when I was a kid, like before I started, that I would get to work with some of the legends that I got to work with, I would have never believed you. Uh I got to work with Gangrel. Oh wow. He was like my first major legend superstar. Right, right. Right. Uh he was first. I got to work the honking tonk man. Oh, yeah, that guy was awesome. Greg the Hammer Valentine. Yeah. Um The Nasty Boys. I've worked with X Pac, uh Hornswoggle.

Uh that's a lot, those are a lot of legends right there that you're naming right there. A lot of them.

I can't even think of half of them that worked with um put me on the spot.

Um I mean, I you got to be around some some some people that have been in the business for a minute. Rikishi. So Oh Rikishi, yeah, I remember Rikishi.

So uh so 2007, I think it was. Yeah, uh Nox Pro opened up in Burbank, LA. Yeah. And um and uh Rikishi and Gangrill, they they opened up their own school. Uh Rusev actually came out of there. I don't know if you're familiar with him. What's the name again? Rusev, uh the Bulgarian Yeah, yeah, okay. Okay, yeah. They're kind of newer, but yeah. Uh so he came out of there. Uh but they brought us down there because um I I actually don't even know how it got started. Billy Billy's a talker, right? So yeah, he just got us in all kinds of places. Right. Uh we ended up going down there. We were like the only outside guys that they brought in because everyone else they had were students and they were all learning. Okay. Just like we did when we started. And um, so we'd go down there, you know, maybe a couple times a month. Yeah. Maybe once a month, I don't know. Uh so we we would work their guys, yeah. And um then uh uh Hulk Hogan's son uh was trying to get into pro wrestling, uh Nick. Oh yeah? I didn't know that. So he started training, he started training uh with Rikiji. Yeah. And um Hul Hulk Hogan and Rick Flair, uh they the legends. Yeah, the legends.

I got to be on shows with them, which is that's awesome. I didn't get to work with them, but I was on the same show as them. I shared the same ring with them, which is wow mind blowing, right? Yeah. Uh so Hogan was putting together uh a tour in Australia, the Hulkomania tour.

So so that's it was the most incredible time of my life, right? We so we were going down to Rikishi Rikishi's uh promotion, yeah, and uh he was the one in charge of putting the whole thing together, him and some other people were putting the whole whole show together with Hogan in Australia. They needed some some guys that you know that the legends could just beat, you know, so we were the jobbers, right? Right, right. Right? So uh so they needed a tag team, so they ended up bringing us to Australia with them to do the the whole Australia tour. Yeah, we were there for 10 days, we did four shows, we we toured all of Australia, Brisbane, that's awesome, man. Melbourne, and Perth.

It was incredible. Yeah. Uh yeah, I um there was a bunch of guys that were jealous that we were the only people that that they brought with us.

Um because it's it's it's very territorial, right? Like the industry, like I don't know, I don't know if I'm saying the right word. Not as much these days, yeah.

There was territories back in the day, and like you you wouldn't you would you wouldn't run someone else's territory. Right, right. But now it's uh it's it's all there's so much now. It's yeah, we can't keep up.

So like if you're like oh okay, so like you just mentioned you guys were driving out, is it Pomona or uh Burbank? Was it Burbank? Sun Valley, okay. Yeah, so like driving out there, are there like wrestlers that have are like established in that area or or are they just coming from different parts? And that's just where the show is based out of.

So in California, yeah, it was SoCal versus NorCal.

Yeah, so it was first we were first to Mortal Fear, yeah. Billy Blade was kind of a vampire, uh-huh. And I was kind of like the werewolf lackey kind of dude. Okay. Uh that lasted like a few years, and then we turned into Rock of Love because uh the Brett Michaels, Rock of Love.

Right, we'd put them on the girls and you know, oh you know, come with us or you know, give us a kiss on the cheek or something like that. I don't know. Uh that's pretty cool though. Yeah, it was it was it was fun times.

He turns around and looks right at us, like this one's for you, brother.

Uh but I really I really enjoyed that time. It didn't last very long, but it was good. And then um all the tag team titles I I got with various tag teams I was with was was cool.

Yeah, you know, and then the uh the Triforce Championship, that that was probably the funnest time of my career. Is that the one where your wife's involved too? Yeah, she was with me at the time. Okay, she she joined me and my uh my little brother tsunami uh back 2012. Yeah. We got multiple tag titles. Um but once once we split, uh, then I went on my own. Okay. I was a Triforce champion, which is like every match was a three-way dance, yeah, triple threat match. Um so those were some of the best matches in the career. Yeah. Um then after that uh being tag team champions with the the Starbucks, yeah. Vintage Dragon. Yeah, that was really good.

Um but then being being a smaller guy, yeah, like I'm 5'8, right? So uh but then there's like Ray Mysterio, you know? Right, that dude's tiny. He's 5'6, yeah, you know, but he's the best luchador of all time. Oh yeah. So but but when when they start bringing guys like that in, you're like, okay, maybe I can make it, you know, I can make it to the to TV, be on be in the big leagues, you know, but uh but after being on the indies, like all the travel, like the sacrifice, it was just like a lot. Yeah. So you're kind of like, well, I just I need a job, right? Right, right. So I I gotta work. Like wrestling's wrestling it pays, right? Sort of, but you're you're paying to travel, you gotta pay gas, you're food. Uh so you might make a few dollars for whatever. Yeah. But um it wasn't until Australia that I like actually made money.

Just like guitar, like uh pick up a guitar and just start learning on your own, or so like my my parents were were big rockers, you know.

Yeah. My dad was like in the AC D C and everything. Oh, I love ACDC, man. And Led Zeppelin, yeah, like and my mom had a nice you know stereo system, yeah. So I'd like just listen to everything. Yeah. And uh you know, I was all I was into like Metallica and everything, and then I don't know why. I don't know why this like really inspired me to play guitar. But when Kid Rock came out, Ball with a ball, okay, there's this that one guitar part where like everything drops off, and it's just the guitar goes dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. I was like, and then they would scratch, and they would the record scratch. I was like, I gotta learn how to play that. And uh and then my buddy across the street, uh, he had a guitar, yeah. And uh so I picked and we just start playing like smoke on the water. That was like you know, the big the big song you learn first, and yeah, start taking music lessons and uh yeah.

You ever like um any like did you ever get in put like a little band together or you're kind of you know with your buddies or whatever?

Yes, yeah um uh freshman year, high school. Um so everybody played guitar, right? I that's what I started on. Right. But nobody needed a guitar player, everyone needed a bass player, so I was like, well slap in the bass. Let me slap on the bass, man. Um everyone says I look like Paul Rudd too. I've gotten that a million times. Uh but so I picked up the bass and just started playing bass because no one needed a guitar player. Yeah. So I played with this like corn cover band and was playing some metal, and then uh probably just after senior year, I think, yeah uh joined this band Deviate. Okay. And uh it was the coolest band, you know. We uh we won Battle of the Bands at Hancock Hall. Oh, damn. Okay. So it wasn't like it wasn't like just like a garage band. You guys actually did some stuff. We did a show at the Roxy in uh LA. Uh we went and uh recorded a demo at uh Grift Dog Records.

I used to play the guitar, but yeah, my acoustic guitar string broke on my that that we play on my YouTube show. I just never bothered to string it. So I just pulled out the piano and I'll just play a little play a little riff on the piano for our for our intro and everything.

I did a little sibling uh episode, and since kids, man, I always wanted uh I we pretended to be like broadcasters and doing interviews. Uh, we used to do like little home homemade movies. We had camcorders, everything, man. And I don't know, man. It's just something about having conversations with people. I just enjoy it, man. So about two years ago, my wife, we're all just kind of drinking, barbecuing, having a good time, and we were just having conversation around you know the fire pit. And I was kind of just talking with everybody, and they're like, man, you should just do you should do a podcast. I was like, damn, I started thinking, you know, why not? Why not, right? So it it took me two years to get it started, but here, here I am. Um, and no, man, I I don't know, just just but like I said, just con just having real conversations and and talking to everyday people, man. That's to me, that's interesting. Right? I want to hear people's stories, man.

So then uh I went into I went onto this um this website, start just start doing research, and then this company called BuzzProw came out, and they actually help you, they kind of guide you through how to do it step by step. And then what they do is once you're done and you start publishing your your episodes, they they they push it out to Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and a whole bunch of other like smaller platforms, but those are the three major ones like Amazon, Apple, and Spotify. So I'm on all three of them because of this company called Bud Sprout. So yeah, shout out to Bud Sprout.

Uh but so he's going through treatment right now with that, but but uh we're we're trying to get back to it. Yeah. And for my son, too, I want to I want him to be able to match.

Uh just trying to just trying to make the the YouTube show happen, you know. Yeah, it's few and far between these days, but that's all I got going on pretty much, besides you know, work and and kid and and husband. Oh, man, like husband life, you know.

Yeah, well, being a husband and and and having a kid, that's a full-time job as on its own. And then, of course, you got your job, come home. Uh you got to take care of the family, you know. Yeah, it's it's time consuming, but at the same time, enjoy your kid right now. Enjoy, he's four years old. Yeah, yeah, enjoy him, man. You got two kids? I got four kids. My kids are all grown, though. I don't have any babies in the house. Uh my youngest one is gonna turn 17. Um, I got a 25-year-old. I got a 20 about to be 22-year-old and a 17, no, a 19-year-old tomorrow. Actually, she'll turn 19 tomorrow, and then a 17-year-old next month. So, yeah, my kids are all grown. I mean, they're on autopilot. So, me and my wife now are just trying to enjoy life. A couple more years of work, and then we're gonna officially retire and then just do our thing, man. There you go. So, what's what about you, man? What are your plans for for down the road? Are you any more kids or uh just the one boy and that's it, or what?

But everybody says the terrible twos, but no, I know it's rough. I I think from from one all for me personally, one, I think all the way up to like maybe seven, it's rough. For us, it was rough. Oh, yeah. But uh even when they get old, man, it's still rough. Yeah, because even our 25-year-old man, we still gotta be like, not that we're babying her or anything like, but you still gotta be conscious of the things that they do, especially if they still live under your roof, you know. Right. You gotta you're always gonna be careful what what they're who they're talking to, where they're at, like, hey, send me your location. It doesn't get easier, man. Like I said, 25-year-old.

Oh man, that doesn't exist anymore, right? Um, yeah, we we grew up in different times, I think. Uh it's very different now. But uh, like I said, enjoy enjoy your child right now at the age they're in, because those those are the uh for me personally, those are the best years, man.

But what was your favorite ages?

I think between three and four. Three and four? Yeah, because then you know they're not like you know, you're not changing diapers anymore at that time, right? But um at the same time, they're kind of like little huge, you know, like little adults, you know. Of course they're kids, but they kind they can kind of do things on their own. They're a little bit more independent. So, like I hey my my son, and when he was saying, go get me a bird from the fridge. My son bring me a beer at three years old, you know, whatever. Those are the kind of things, you know, they're a little bit more independent. But yeah, I would say between the ages of three and four was my favorite time. I don't know why, but that was like they're very playful at that age.
