SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Real Ghosts of Podcast, where we explore haunted locations in and around Austin, Texas. We're your hosts, Nicole Ricardo and Damian Shilacy.

SPEAKER_01

Listen along as we couple in-depth historical research and paranormal investigative techniques with a sixth sense of the unknown.

SPEAKER_00

Good morning, noon.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's morning for you right now. But it is 12 50. Yeah. We had a late night.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we were what we didn't go to sleep until 6 30.

SPEAKER_03

It was 6 30.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think it was 6 30.

SPEAKER_03

It was 6 30. 100%. The bruvs didn't leave until like four. We were up for a while because you decided to pour yourself a whiskey.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I drank that pretty quickly. In that um, okay, well anyway, welcome in to Wine and Spirits. We are going to be talking about haunted hotels. Ghost Gone Wild.

SPEAKER_03

Ghost Gone Wild. Speaking of Ghost Gone Wild, it's worth noting, and we're not gonna touch on this on this episode. Uh it's coming. Yeah, it'll be uh Boy oh boy. Did shit get wild last night. And has been wild.

SPEAKER_00

So Yeah. I mean, I like I want to talk about because I'm like trying to mentally run through in my brain like when we do that episode, because we were in Lockhart last night, we were investigating at another location. Um I mean it's not really relevant to like that investigation, so I don't know that I would put it in.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_03

We are gonna talk about it literally after we record this and we record a peripliar episode. Honda Tush Puppies. We're gonna dive into it after last year.

SPEAKER_00

If you get upset by us interrupting each other or, you know, talking and we take too long to get to the point, definitely do not listen to those. However, if you are ADD friendly and you love hearing us ramble about the weird shit that happens to us in our lives, um, you will love them. So yeah, we are gonna talk about it a bit on there. It was just it was fucking weird. There was some weird shit. There was some weird ass shit happening.

SPEAKER_03

Let's pull this up. Let's just make sure we don't have to give any shout-outs. Do we have any new reviews, any new messages, anybody we want to shout out, some Patreon folks? Oh gosh. I mean, we've had somebody uh helping us with a lot of research on some of these.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think we need to shout out Rory, um, which by the way, I think it got mentioned on here briefly because Anna showed up when we did our live investigation for the Bell Witch episode. And so we kind of gave the backstory and how this is um an entity or something that has been, you know, started with Wayne and now it's kind of following all of us, and it's been this whole saga. Um, if you want to know all the T because there's more on our Patreon, we did like a live, a dedicated investigation um in our Patreon with everybody participating. We got more information, we've been getting coordinates, we're getting all of these synchronicities for North Carolina, which we're gonna answer the call and go. I don't know when, but we're going to. Um, but dude, Rory took all of that information and went down the freaking rabbit hole, and I'm pretty sure that she found this Anna.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like she pieced together all of the information and stuff. I'm pretty sure she freaking found Anna.

SPEAKER_03

Well, she's been wild, and and she's been one of the coolest family members we have. And it's great to see her and some of the others, like Wayne, connecting and helping with this story because this is an ongoing mystery. And one of the things that Nicole and I really want to do with with our whole whatever the fuck this is that we're doing, um, everyone that gets on the bus with us, like, you're a part of it, right? So we love having them show up and investigate with us. We love getting their research, like, we love their experiment ideas, all of it. So thank you for that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I mean, I think it's also, you know, we were kind of talking about this. Um, we did a live stream investigating in the museum here, our new our newest haunted item on Friday. Um, and we had everybody, you know, having their equipment out and whatever. And like, dude, more brains are better than one, you know. Like, we'll sit here and do this all freaking night, and then we're like, I don't know, I feel like it's like that meme with you know the guy, and he's like pointing to the board and all the stuff and the red lines behind him, and he looks like insane, you know, that's that's us, yes, you know, if we're just left to our own devices.

SPEAKER_03

So we're not a TV show, we're real people with real problems.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes, and and you help us um because more brains are better than one, and you know, like we can only do so much, like we're real people, and so I that's been my favorite part about this is being able to involve everyone and having people like you know, be able to help us find this shit. Like, that's yeah, I don't I she found him, but anyway, so it's a family affair. Yeah, huge shout out to Rory. I love you so much, and I want you to know because we were talking about this what yesterday? I don't know. I was like, dude, I wish we were just like independently wealthy so that way we could be like, Rory, you know what? We got we got you a plane ticket, we got you a freaking room at this hotel, we're flying you in for the family seance.

SPEAKER_03

We we eventually want to get that to that point uh with all of our members, and that's where Buttersquatch Falls comes into play eventually.

SPEAKER_00

Our compound.

SPEAKER_03

So thank you for that. And it is worth noting that uh some of the close members have already mentioned how much they enjoy you. So we love having you around. Awesome. Thanks so much.

SPEAKER_00

So um okay, so we do have a new review that I will read um from El Wiggly. L.

SPEAKER_03

Wiggly.

SPEAKER_00

L Wigley.

SPEAKER_03

So Yeah, which sounds like a villain in an old cartoon. L Wiggly. I'm El Wiggly. You know, Luigly.

SPEAKER_00

Um, it says, love you guys. Why does like is it just me or does my sound sound weird? It sounds like kind of echoey. Your sound sounds weird.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you just gotta get a little bit closer to that microphone up in there. Get up all up in a group.

SPEAKER_00

I'm on the microphone.

SPEAKER_03

There you go. I got you.

SPEAKER_00

Are you telling me that's how close I have to get to talk in this microphone?

SPEAKER_03

No, but if you want to have this, um, do you want to sound like me?

SPEAKER_00

Well, why does yours sound significantly different? Magic. Is it because I'm like sitting next to the blank wall?

SPEAKER_03

Can I read this review? I'm very happy about it.

SPEAKER_00

You want to read it?

SPEAKER_03

I do.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So, El Wiggly. Right? Not to be confused with Wrigley Field. I don't know. Uh I would love to go there.

SPEAKER_00

I wish we could go when we were in Chicago, but alas.

SPEAKER_03

We have ghosts to deal with. Uh says, love you guys, and it gives us five stars on Apple Podcast. Um, it says, I let me go hit the more button here. All right. I absolutely love hanging out with you all and listening to all of your discussions. Feels like I'm there with you, and even find myself talking back to you both. LOL. Uh don't listen to the negativity. Keep doing you. Thanks for sharing all that you do. Listen, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, I love that so much. And come come join our Patreon so when you talk back, you can like type it into, you know, and then just send it to us.

SPEAKER_03

I love this because the talking back to us, you know. And I I do like to envision that. Like I say something, you know, off the wall or or or stupid or I know, and she's like, oh god, Damien. Yeah, god damn, bruv. You know, um god damn it. Yeah. So I hope thank you for leaving that review. Um it it means a lot to us. And not only the review aspect of it, but you'll never know what it means to us when people tell us that they do. They listen to us, our stupid voices coming through their stupid speakers, and we are somehow providing some kind of positive experience for them. I don't know how that happens, but it hey, we love you. That we that's what we want to do. That's why we do this.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much. Thank you for hanging out with us and for taking the time to do that. So if you too are picking up what we are putting down, you are neurospicy friendly, you are a fan of weird, uh, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts because it really does help us, first of all, um, you know, not feel like we're crazy and just two idiots sitting here talking to ourselves.

SPEAKER_04

We are.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, which we do a lot of the time. So you help us to feel better about ourselves. Yeah. Um, but also it helps other people who are searching for weird shit um to find us. So, you know, I know we're not everybody's cup of tea, but we are the if you are in it, if you are down the paranormal rabbit hole, if you are looking for a story, but also thinking about what the fuck is actually happening here.

SPEAKER_03

If you feel that maybe you've lost your mind and you need someone to validate you, we validate.

SPEAKER_00

Join we validate. Join the pair house for wayward weirdos.

SPEAKER_03

That's right. Bucky's coffee is good, by the way.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it is. Every time we go on a road trip and we stop at Bucky's, I always stock up on their uh their coffee. It is, it's good.

SPEAKER_03

Speaking of trips, I'm just gonna throw this one little teaser out there, then we're gonna get into this episode. Boy oh boy, RGO fans, do you have something special coming to you? Oh god. When you get episodes about our recent trip to Mississippi.

SPEAKER_00

To Mississippi to we went to Moonshadow Manor.

SPEAKER_03

Which motherfucking beautiful house.

SPEAKER_00

It's amazing, which by the way, go follow her on Instagram. And first of all, the owner, she's just absolutely freaking amazing. I want to meet her in person so bad, and just like we would bruv so fucking hard. We would bruv. But anyway, um, Moonshadow Manor on Instagram. It's in Centerville, Mississippi. We went there recently. It's not gonna be the next investigation series. Next one will be Kate Shepherd, which is also fucking wild from our trip prior to that uh to Mobile. But um that one and then yeah, the Mississippi trip. We have never had an investigation like this one.

SPEAKER_03

No, well, look.

SPEAKER_00

It's a lot of high strangeness.

SPEAKER_03

It's a lot of high strangeness. It's just to give you a little teaser, we end up in the literal middle of the woods uh and found a secret trail that the ghost told us to go to, and it led us to a clearing with some weird shit. So we will get into that. We will get into the seance that came after, we'll get into all the synchronicities, we will get into that trip. Be on the lookout for that. And yes, Moon Shadow Manor, go fucking stay there. It's amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, seriously, if you are anywhere near driving distance, it's so worth it, even if you just go there for a weekend. And honestly, she has it priced so cheap. What it was it? We it was like 200 bucks for like two nights or something to stay there.

SPEAKER_03

She probably could not stand this because I everything that's in her house as collectors. Oh my god, it's I was texting her over and over and over like, Would you want to part with this? Uh I'll make an offer on this.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, the house is beautiful. Like, literally, just like we packed up our Yeti cooler, we went there, we were pretty much just at the house the entire time. Amazing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and if you do want to hear about something that we got from the house that was given to us by by the owner, uh then hop on over to the Haunted Hush Puppies episode that we'll record after this. We're gonna talk about the item. But okay, what are we talking about today?

SPEAKER_00

Um we are talking about haunted hotels because I was sitting around thinking, like, oh, what should we do for our next Wine and Spirits episode? Um and we I know that we both have some pretty fucking weird stories of various haunted hotels that we stayed at that we've never actually shared or talked about. And I did get some messages, thank you so much, for those of you who reached out, um, saying that they did really enjoy the listener stories episode. Oh, really? Um, and would love more stories. So I was like, Well, I know we have some stories, and Damien, everybody really liked your storytelling, and somebody in fact was like, you should start a podcast just telling spooky stories.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe, maybe you'll hear me on like a Burger King commercial or something. Have it your way.

SPEAKER_00

Oh God, that's what I say when I get mad. I'm like, this isn't Burger King, you can't always have it your way.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

Uh haunted hotels. So um Ghost Gong Wa. You know, actually, it's funny you bring this up because we we talk about haunted hotels a lot, you and I, because I have this philosophical thought, slash question, slash idea in my head. Um, it's always funny to me how these grand historic hotels uh are always the ones with these wonderful ghost stories and and have these these phenomena being experienced. And it's always a story of somebody that like died, you know, whatever. And I find it interesting because your your garden variety uh Hilton or uh Hampton Inn, right? Motel Eight.

SPEAKER_00

Your holiday inn.

SPEAKER_03

Uh surprisingly, if you look this up, and it's a weird thing to look up, but do it. Uh go to your Google and look this up. But the the amount of suicides alone that happen at just your average one-of-the-mill hotels every year is staggering. Yeah. It is staggering. It is. We don't really see these apparitions of these people that have been doing this. What we typically see is we see the apparition of the story from a hundred years ago.

SPEAKER_00

When you're at the old historic hotel that has all of the stories that everybody talks about, but when you're traveling around and you're staying in shitholes because you're going on a pair road trip and there's an interesting thing.

SPEAKER_03

There's an interesting thing here to think about. Like why is as people, when we when we go to these haunted hotels, and we are gonna dive into this, but I just thought of this, but we always have the phenomena uh shown to us as uh beautiful. Uh we we we see the we see the the beautiful woman in the white dress or the or the child. We don't see the uh divorcee middle-aged dude that slid his wrist in the tub.

SPEAKER_00

I've seen that before. I mean not that specific thing, but you're an anomaly.

SPEAKER_03

All right. You we don't hear about these in the in the books. That these ghosts are not making themselves probably. You see everything.

SPEAKER_00

I Well, I don't see everything, but I see some weird shit.

SPEAKER_03

It's constant with you. It's constant. Well last night we were driving, it was an hour or another.

SPEAKER_00

And there and there was a person while I had this, I'm like, wait, is that a real person?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um so that is an interesting question. So we we we will get there. Um, but you have a story? I know I have one. It's one of my craziest stories and it's a NOLA story.

SPEAKER_00

We both have a a cup oh, is that do you only have that one? I thought you had more. I have a few.

SPEAKER_03

A few. Uh get it. You know, because with the hotels for me, um I think yours is pretty good, so you have to go live. It's damn good. Yeah. You have to go. So you go ahead first, bruv. Um People want to hear you talk more, anyways.

SPEAKER_00

All right, bruv. Um, okay, so the first one that I want to talk about, because it's pr it's pretty quick, but it's interesting. So a couple years ago, I went down to San Antonio for my birthday. Um, because, you know, as one does, I wanted to stay in a haunted hotel and I wanted to check out the Alamo because I had never been before. Um, and so I stayed in the Emily Morgan Hotel, which is literally right across the street from the Alamo. You can walk outside, walk on over to it. Great location. And Emily Morgan, also reportedly one of the most haunted hotels down there, right? It it's an old medical arts building, so they had a surgery floor. Yes, they do have the one floor that literally still smells like um like a sanitizing stuff, you know. Well, do you get like a discount if you stay on that floor? No, you do not. Well, unfortunately, and I did, um, while I was there, I did happen to speak to one of the maintenance workers of the hotel who said he had been there for like, I don't know, 15, 20 years or something. And he personally kind of gave me a little tour around. They were so everybody there was so nice. But I did ask him about that floor as well with the smell, and he was like, Yeah, we've tried everything. It's amount of ammonia. Um, yeah, yeah, pretty much like that bleach smell. Like, you know, when you walk into a hospital and it's just like, oh, this sound, this smells sterile.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, that's what it smells like, you know, almost like bandages, you know. Um, but yeah, he was like, you know, we have tried everything, and it's only this one floor, which was the surgical unit. Um, but yeah, he was like, We've tried everything. It doesn't matter what we try, what we do, like we can clean. Uh it just it always smells like this. But anyway, um, so staying at the Emily Morgan and the I believe it was my first night there. I'm laying in bed and I'm in I'm in this room where the bathroom has one of these like tubs with the jetted, I guess the jets in it, you know, like it wasn't a hot tub or anything, but it has the jets in in the tub, okay? So I'm laying in bed, have the TV on, just whatever, relaxing, and I hear those god-awful fucking loud ass sounds start like, I don't know, like you know, like, but so fucking loud, and I was like, what the fuck? And so I get up and I go in the bathroom, and the fucking jets on the tub had turned on. Mind you, there is a switch, okay? Like, like the light switch, there's a switch to turn these on. The switch was also on, okay? And these these jets are going, and there's no water, there's no water in the tub, so it's making this awful noise. So I turn it off, I'm like, what the hell? So I go back and I lay down. Go back to watching, you know, probably go shows or something. Um, and it happened again like 30 minutes or so later, and it was just fucking weird. It was just it was just a little weird.

SPEAKER_02

That is weird. I I'm stuck on the the smell of the the sterile smell. That's interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the bandages.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. No, I want to go check that out for myself.

SPEAKER_00

It is, it is weird. It's a cool place to walk around. Um, and actually, I think if you scroll back far enough, I might have posted a reel about it because I did take some video clips. The outside of the building, it's really cool. They have um these like gargoyles and stuff, you know, kind of like built into the building, but they're all medical related, you know. And so even one of the entrances on the ground, if you look, it still has the original like tile that was there that says like medical arts building, and it's a it's a really, really cool old historical building. So if you are in San Antonio, you have a chance to go stay there. Um, it's definitely weird, it's definitely creepy, definitely would recommend.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah, no, I gotta check that out too. It's surprising. I've actually never been there.

SPEAKER_00

Really?

SPEAKER_03

I did do a ghost tour one time many, many, many years ago in San Antonio, and they were pointing that that hotel out, and then they took us out on the street, and the lady said uh something to the effect of, can anyone tell me what the most haunted hotel is in this area? And I just had a uh an intuition, a download. And I looked, and I believe it was a holiday in or a Hilton or something, and I said, That one. And she's like, Yeah, that's the one. And no one talks about it because it's like it looks like a Hilton or whatever, and it's not, or a holiday and whatever it is, but I think it's a holiday in. Yeah, but it doesn't look like I mean, like the Driscoll or something. Yeah, yeah. You walk into Driscoll and you're like, you're like, I fucking feel ghosts, right? Because it just has that vibe. And I think going back to what you and I were talking about literally yesterday is how our version of all of this gets so um put together and created uh by media, which is probably why when we go into a historic old hotel, we get that vibe immediately because that's what's in the movies.

SPEAKER_00

Well, sure, and it's like, you know, like you said, when you walk into the Driscoll, you know, you're like, oh, this shit's haunted, right? Or like the one coming to mind for me is uh the Omni Hotel in Boston, right? You know, you walk in and you're like, oh, this shit is haunted, you know, because it just it looks like it should be, you know. It looks like the type of movie that you would or the type of hotel that you would see in a movie that somebody's walking into and waking up in the middle of the night because you know the lights are flickering and the water's turn, you know what I'm saying? Like, they don't make movies showing you at a fucking shitty ass like holiday in.

SPEAKER_03

You know, this just like hit me. Maybe these old hotels have the are more haunted because of that beauty. When we go into a hotel, like I'm reminded of when we stayed at Galvez, which there's an episode on that. It was actually really wild. Um, when you walk into a place like that and there's the art in the structure of the of the thing, and it's not functional, it's it's it's art. It's art. I mean, you can like it.

SPEAKER_00

You can feel like you can feel the history of a place like that.

SPEAKER_03

For years, people have been walking in there and thinking the same thing. Oh my god, this is such beautiful architecture, beautiful furniture, beautiful this, beautiful that. So maybe uh that has something to do with it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm sure, because you know, when we talk about stuff like agricors and creating these things, like nobody's walking into Holiday Inn saying that, you know, like, oh wow, this is so old and this is so beautiful. I wonder how long this has been here, oh my god, you know, and then they're gonna shit, yeah. Yes, and then their next thought, you know, not being like, oh, I bet this place is haunted, right? But people are walking into like the Driscoll or the Omni and they're doing that there, you know, every day. And they even have the ghost tours that are going through, right? Like, so it's almost like, yes, of course, things happen there, but even if they hadn't, like it's being creative, baby.

SPEAKER_03

That's an interesting thing that we just that we just blurted out of our mouthholes, is is our mouthholes. Yeah, maybe this is also why antiques are typically like a haunted item versus like an IKEA shelf or something. And it must be that like the art versus the functionality, right? Art generates emotion and and spirit, right? Functionality is People shit.

SPEAKER_00

So well, I mean, it's also like, you know, I you're not gonna have a fucking IKEA piece 50 years from now that you're handing down to your grandfather. Haunted particle board. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, that shit's gonna be in a garbage dump somewhere, um, which is why we prefer antiques.

SPEAKER_03

Which it does suck. I'm sitting here, we're sitting here looking at our paralibrary, which we have an extensive fucking paralybribration. And we've got two IKEA shelves. Couple IKEA brevs. Oh, whatever. Um, yeah, so I'm gonna you want me to tell my story?

SPEAKER_00

Um Well, I have some ones from the Driscoll. Do you want me to tell those first, or do you want to go ahead? I mean, yours is so good. I feel like you have to go last.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a wild one. Um so much so that like we are going to go stay there, and I'm going to attempt to have it happen. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't want that to happen to me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Just wait and it's a wild story. Um the listeners are chomping at the bit that they can Nicole say your story when you're going to be.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, my story. So mine, uh, surprise, surprise. Um, I do have a few from the Driskol. We all know my affinity for the Driskol. I love the Driscoll. I like to think, as hopefully will be illustrated by one of these stories, um, that the ghost and I are on good terms, that we're friends. Um Monica says so. Well, I have in fact gone there before, you know, with Monica, with one of the Suicide Brides, you know, um Austin Ghost tours. They they have her death certificate, and so we know her name and everything. You know, Monica and I did go there once and we brought her flowers on her birthday and did a little thing for her and said happy birthday, you know. So we like to be respectful um and make sure that their stories are being told accurately. Like, I think that that is something that's very important. We know that that is a hill I will die on.

SPEAKER_03

Can you imagine if you were uh an entity um and you just had to watch people for centuries telling your story in a way that like you're like, my favorite color is not brown. It's green, it's clearly green, right? But they're walking around. His favorite color was brown, like and it just annoy you.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, oh, it uh yeah, I can't even imagine because it annoys me the amount of times I've been sitting in that goddamn bar and other ghost tour companies are coming through and telling just blatantly wrong information and stories, and I'm sitting there like, oh my god, that's not even true. What do you No? He there the little girl did not fall down the stairs. No, that's not what happened. Her name wouldn't I like I'm sitting in the bar, like that's me. So I can only imagine if it's you know these like ghosts that they're talking about, and they're like, oh my god, this is why people get scratched, okay?

SPEAKER_03

We need to start our own ghost tour company, and the whole point of it is it's all aggregore-based. We come up with stories and we just walk into other people's hotels and we're like, this wonderful hotel here. This is where there was the murder bride, or whatever the fuck, and then like maybe like years later, like it happens.

SPEAKER_00

Just create them. No, that's spreading misinformation. I could never do that. Um, we can run our own experiments, but I would not ever share that information as factual information. But anyway, so the Drist School, so uh one of the first things that happened to me, and I do have this on video somewhere. I think it was on one of my old phones. I would have to like go on my computer and you know dig through my fucking 50,000 photos in iPhoto, but um, I was there one night. I happened to be, you know, scratching around downtown. So of course I wanted to stop into the Driscoll to get a little drinky, a little snacky, um, and I had to pee. So we're in the bar area. I go into the women's bathroom in the bar area specifically, which I do also just want to know, even uh, especially prior to when they renovated it, it was creepy as fuck. They had these little shadow boxes in there with like, you know, I don't know, little vignettes of like old ass shit and like people's like gloves and shoes and whatever. And I'm like, oh my god. But anyway, so I'm in there and I go into one of the stalls, and you know, it has the little like uh hook thing, you like not slide it over, it's like dangling, you know, and then you have to like put it in the the like hole on the other side to lock it, you know, and it stays. Okay. So go and pee. Literally like two seconds, the freaking lock thing on the door pops up and out of the little like hole.

SPEAKER_03

Now hold on. So I'm gonna stop you there because sorry to interrupt. Um no I thank you. Yeah. That is something that I I'm now putting in my notebook of my research, which is uh finding similar phenomena. That is something that happened to us uh uh at the casket where the museum was for the first time. And it's if there's a latch, yes, like a hook, and it'll just go over. It'll pop up over. Yep. And it's not and I remember the first time that happened there. I think you were there. Yes. And I'm like, you know, and I spent just out. So was it the same type of thing?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Uh-huh. And so that happens. It pops up, and I'm like, what the hell? And so I, you know, reach over, relatch it, okay. And I will tell you in the like 10 seconds that I'm trying to fucking pee, okay? This thing, it must have unlatched like six or seven times. Okay, it kept doing it. Yeah. Now, hold on. Because I go back out, and of course I'm like, oh my god, this happened. That's so weird, right? And I got, well, did you take a video of it? So I'm like, oh fuck, you know, so I go back in there, same stall, okay? Waiting. I was in there, and it's even because this was when I got the video of it, it's like five fucking minutes, okay? And then it finally happens again. Whereas the first time, it was like every freaking second, it's unlatching itself, okay? So if it had been something, my brain already is like, well, if it had been something that I don't know, like the lock is just put on weird or whatever, like it would have done the same exact thing when I went back in. You know what I'm saying? And I will say, so after this happened, okay, you know, finally get the video, leave, whatever. I'm like, didn't need to take five minutes, but okay, thank you so much. So leave and go back and I tell Taylor about this. Taylor, who used to do history for us. Um, and so we're both like, wow, that's really weird, weird, huh? And so literally next day we end up going back because we're like, I don't know, let's just check this out, let's try to debunk this, right? And so we're in the fucking bathroom at the Driscoll, and she's like, you know, opening the front door and whatever, and we're trying to see if maybe that creates one of the like suction things where it'll open another door, whatever. Doesn't do that. We're looking for the air vents. We're literally walking around this fucking bathroom trying to figure out a way to like explain this. Didn't happen again the entire time that we were there. Nothing that we did, nothing that we tried, it just wouldn't happen. So uh haunted bathroom in the Driscoll Bar.

SPEAKER_03

And that's interesting because I like I mentioned it's something we saw on the door uh at the old museum and it would do that. And it gets me thinking to myself, like, okay, well, why is it just the hooks? And why can they not just do it to a turnlock, right? Like it's weird to me. And of course, the skeptic that's listening right now, the one guy that's gonna leave the review, actually, uh, you know, is thinking, well, no shit, Sherlock. Like, there's a tension thing and it's making it pop up. Before you think that, you remember when this happened, and I'm sure you did this at the hotel. Like, I spent hours in there trying to get this to to replicate.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And that's literally like, dude, we went back and we did that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's so wow, it's weird that it's with the hooks. That's gonna have my brain going in weird directions now. So thanks for that.

SPEAKER_00

Um, well, I would guess, you know, the like push ones or whatever, you know, the other dwarf. I think it probably does happen with those as well. I think it's just easier to write off because you can't necessarily see that.

SPEAKER_03

It would somehow, though, if you think about it, be creepier if it happened with one of those locks. If you looked like the hook flying off is one thing. If you look over and you see your logo like super. Yeah. You know, it's funny. If we were any kind of You're like, holy shit, I'm about to get murdered. I'm about to get fucked. If we were any kind of a good podcast, you know, like all the paranormal ones where they're telling stories, they have the sound bites in the background. So you'd be like, so I'm in the hotel, and you hear like the the the noise a lot, you go, I'm going pee. And you heard um that was a good one.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, well, hold on. Because we have one more Driscoll one. Okay. Before you do yours. I think this is the ultimate, like, I think the Driscoll ghosts and I are on good terms, okay? There's no other explanation for this in my brain. So, um, we all know, again, my affinity for the Driscoll. I love the Driscoll, and so I have for for quite a few birthdays now, we'll get a room at the Driscoll. And so this was my first birthday that I did this, and this was actually the first time that I had ever stayed at the Driscoll. And mind you, this is when I first moved to Austin like 10 years ago, like I've always wanted to stay at the Driscoll. And so, you know, my friends, my group of friends, they're like, no, dude, like, we're gonna do something nice for your birthday. Like, let's do something, you know. I know you've always wanted to stay at the Driscoll, we're gonna rent a suite, this is gonna be amazing, blah, blah, blah. Um, which was so sweet, you know. And so we get the room at the Driscoll, and we actually, because this is the type of ding-dong I am, I surprised my friends on my birthday and booked Monica to give us a private ghost tour. So, um, we yeah, that was the night where I was like drunk reading some bruv on the street.

SPEAKER_02

We still need to make that uh like a podcast spin-off, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Nicole does drunk readings.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, drunk readings.

SPEAKER_00

It's I it's I'm I'm telling you, well, you always I'm like, it's fun, Nicole. I'm way more fun when I'm uh a little drunky. But anyway, so you know, we go on the tour, whatever, we're back up in the room, we're everybody's having fun. Of course, we have a leader.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sorry, like I just see like the TV show. Like it shows you like walking around and like you're like, and like you cross your arms and look at the camera, you go, I'm Nicole Ricardo, the problem medium.

SPEAKER_00

I'm the problem. What else is new?

SPEAKER_03

I'm always the problem. Just getting thrown out of bars, like reading.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I'm just over here sitting here making my little witch concoctions and light and protection candles and cuddling hurricane. Meanwhile, Nicole's the problem, dude.

SPEAKER_03

Fuck you. But anyway. I just envision you getting thrown out of the bar by security and you're like screaming at them like I can see your death asshole.

SPEAKER_04

I know how you die.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, uh, so yeah, we're we're back up in the room and you know, as one does, uh we have the Ouija board out, we have tarot cards out, you know, it's a it's a good fucking time. It's Friday night. Um, it's a good fucking time. And so um I s I'm standing at this point, and someone had wanted to give me a hug, so I, you know, everybody's like bestowing their birthday wishes and birthday luck and you know, whatever, um, as witches, as we witches.

SPEAKER_03

Because uh Nicole birthday things get bestowed.

SPEAKER_00

Um, well, it's just a witchy thing, you know. Everybody sends you like the good good energy and whatever. So anyway, um, so yeah, give give them a hug. And as we're, you know, unhugging, so I I like lose my balance a little bit, and I'm you know, at the I'm hammered. I am gone, okay. Fun Nicole is out. And you know, we're unhugging, and I kind of like lose my balance, I get, I guess. And this is from the reports of the six other people in the room, okay?

SPEAKER_03

Because I'm talking about it like it's paranormal activity here, like, well, it it's weird.

SPEAKER_00

Just wait. So I start falling apparently directly into a mirror. There's a standing floor-length mirror, okay? That absolutely like I would have gotten fucked, okay? This mirror would have broken, like it would have been awful. Okay. And so from the reports of six other people in the room, they were like, dude, you were falling into this fucking mirror, and it looked like something pushed you out of the way. They're like, You're falling mid-fall, you completely changed directions, and there was a chair right next to the mirror, and I fall into the chair instead. They, everybody in this room was like, dude, the Driscoll ghosts must fucking love you, and they pushed you out of the way.

SPEAKER_03

That is interesting because I would have had to have seen it, but it that would be close to uh levitation phenomena, wouldn't it? Because it's like if your body is being moved.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, something physically moving me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that's pretty interesting.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm just like while it was happening, I was just like laughing my ass off, and I land in the chair and I'm laughing hysterically, and you know, and they're like, I look up and everybody's looking at me like wide-eyed, mouth open, like, uh I'm like what just happened.

SPEAKER_03

A new perk we're gonna add to the uh Patreon, and it's gonna get a lot of people to sign up, is you we'll have weekly um drunk Nicole videos, and you can see that, and you know, you can you can be a Patreon member to see that.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we have toyed with the idea of doing some Patreon only drunk history. Yeah because you know I l I love drunk history, that show. Um, and just retelling stories, you know, while we're I mean, we do this is wine and spirits. We don't have wine to know that we have coffee.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's coffee.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so yeah, so those are my my address school stories.

SPEAKER_03

It's it is a great hotel, and it's sad that they're redoing the bar to be all modern and shit.

SPEAKER_00

So you know I was so upset when I heard about that. I was like, I wish I would have known because I would have tried to figure out like like do we need to get like fucking signatures or like what do we do to get them to not do this?

SPEAKER_03

Like how you move to a new town that uh appreciates their shit and they don't do that, I guess. I don't know. I mean that was my favorite bar for a long time. But anyways, yeah. Um I can't yeah, I we can't talk about that. I might cry. Yeah. So I've just got the one, the one hotel story.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let's hear your let's hear your banger.

SPEAKER_03

Because you know, some of the other ones, you know, you've heard on other episodes. I mean, really, in a sense, there was hotel activity on the Waverly trip, uh, most certainly. And if you break down that activity, the shadow play we were seeing in our room, at any rate, like the the beings, like that that was absolutely wild. The the the handprints on Eric's bed in his room, which are now showing up. I mean, uh whatever. That was wild. But my biggest one was years ago. This was years ago. Um, I was well, I was dating this crazy person, for sure, and uh she wanted to go to New Orleans, we drove for the weekend, whatever, and I wanted to stay in what is apparently from my research one of the more actual haunted uh places in in New Orleans. It's the Andrew Jackson Hotel. Um, and it's it's it's beautiful. Now there's only one room, though, is the thing. There's one room, and I've talked to the hotel staff about it, and it's that one room that you're gonna get this sort of activity. So uh book the room, um drive into New Orleans, get there, go up into the room. The first thing I notice, it's a really small room, these old hotels as they typically are, right? Really small, and there's like these mirrors on the wall.

SPEAKER_00

Especially in the French court.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So I walk in the room, first thing is immediately I see like a shadow kind of move across the wall. I was like, what the fuck is that? That's really weird. And that's whatever. Um about five minutes go in, putting the bags down, and I'm hearing kind of kids laughing and sort of frolicking around in the next room. And I just remember thinking, like, oh, of course, like really thin, you know, hotel walls, whatever. Um, so not much happened there. And a couple hours go by. Uh I eventually, very late at night, this is back when I was uh I I smoked cigarettes, right?

SPEAKER_00

So I was Wow, you were so cool, huh?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I was so I was really cool. Yeah. I was. Yeah. They were usually I would keep them cuffed up in my t-shirt. Yeah. Um, but no, I needed a lighter. And I walk down to the front desk area, and there's the guy sitting there. I'm like, hey man, you got a lighter? Uh he's like, sure. And he comes out to smoke with me. And we're sitting out front of the Andrew Jackson, uh, he and I, and we're just having a cigarette, and we're talking. I'm asking him about experiences at the hotel. And he he told me, he's like, I've seen possessions here. I'm like, what, man? Like, that's kind of wild to hear you say you're the fucking front desk, bro. Like, and you're telling me, you know. And he's like, I've seen possessions here, I've seen all kinds of shit, all this. I'm like, all right, and I told him, I said, you know, it's funny, I when I first walked in the room, I got a little bit of a of a scare because I heard the you know, the the kids in the next room kind of frolicking around. He's like, You're in the you know, the haunted room, right? I'm like, Yeah, he's like, no, there's no one uh staying next to you. I'm like, Yeah, you're fucking you know, like at this point, I'm like, dude, whatever, okay, it's but it's bullshit. Like, no, no, and he literally took me upstairs and it's the room was empty. He opened, he showed me. I'm like, alright, that's that's that's pretty wild. That's pretty wild, okay. So talk to him, do the whole thing. Here's the interesting thing. Give the guy his lighter back, right? And go to my room. Now, the person I was with, uh, she was asleep. I get back in the room, I go to bed. At some point, I'm woken up by this person next to me, like, freaking out because she says she's being choked. I'm like, what the fuck are you talking about? You know what I mean? She's being choked. She's like, gasping for breath, all this other shit. I turn the fucking lights on, and you can see she's like just losing it, right? But I notice on her fucking chest is a goddamn handprint, but it's black, like ash, it's ash, and it was literal ash, right? Is what it was. And I'm like, what the fuck is that? And it was it looked like a child's handprint, kind of smeared. And there's no ash around. You can't smoke in those rooms, obviously. Um, so I'm like, what the hell is that? So then I had no idea about this. I the next day am talking to that the same bruv I was smoking with, and I told him that story. He's like, Yeah, man, go check the history out. He's like, something to the effect of the hotel had a fire at one point, and there's a kid in that room, Bartholomew, maybe his name was. I don't know, it's been so many years, uh, died, burned to death in that fucking room. So that wasn't a very interesting thing for me to have happen.

SPEAKER_00

Um and this is also back in your days, you used to be an adamant non-believer.

SPEAKER_03

Well, here's the thing. I I come from the world of if you were telling me something about uh UFOs or conspiracy theories, I was all over it. Ghost, I I was so on the fence about, even though, even though I was raised with a very uh spiritual mom who would have these weird phenomena happen that I've talked about on the podcast before. But on um parapet. Yeah. But you know, uh when you get older, there was that time I I became an atheist for a while, and I understand why I I got there, but yeah, at that time, if you would have told me, you know, it was ghosts my mind was gonna try to go to somewhere else, if that sort of makes sense. So, like literally when she showed me that, my first thought was like, You're fucking wild. Like, what are you doing? Like, you're just making this up. But then there was no anything like that in the room. There was nothing, right? Um it was weird to me, and I think like a lot of people, you just kind of brush it off. It's weird, and it was not one of those moments that did anything for me. I think in my mind, it's because that is that's crazy to me.

SPEAKER_00

How do you have that happen? And you're like, nah, it didn't do anything for me. See, this is why I'm like the people who like don't believe in this stuff, they will write anything off. Well, they will write anything off. They will, but they could see a fucking ghost in front of them and they'll be like, I had an optical migraine. Like, okay, Chad.

SPEAKER_03

Well, it Dr. Chad would be who would be saying that typically, right? So, like, that's the thing. That is the thing, is we are inundated with all of the reports of science and doctors saying that that's you know what's happening or it's it's illusions, things like that. But regardless, I I think for me, in that instance, since I didn't experience it uh firsthand, I was just a witness to someone else's experience. There is there was always gonna be that question in my mind of like, well, okay, well, yeah, this is wild, but this is also very easy to to just do. Right? Um and look, I mean, I she wasn't the uh most put together person, so that w would make sense. I think I don't know, but um this was many years ago, but that maybe that's how I looked at it, I don't know. But it wasn't really until you uh start seeing things and experiencing them yourself in a way that you know, like, okay, we I've told the story before. For me, it was with items when I start seeing these things happen from my collection. I'm like, what is this shit? I'm like, I'm collecting weird stories, and now all of a sudden this stuff is happening. Let me dive into this, and then you start to look back at things that you experienced and be like, oh, okay, this sort of makes sense. Well, like for you, didn't you think for the long longest time when you were seeing shadow people that maybe like something was wrong? Or did you always just accept it as spirit?

SPEAKER_00

No, I just wrote it off. Oh, that's what you I just wrote it off because I saw them like from growing up, you know. And of course, like, because I was a little kid, you know, even going back to elementary school, I would be waking up in the middle of the night and open my eyes and see what looks like a person or people standing next to my bed. Granted, you know, just a black figure, I can't make out details or anything, you know. But you do the okay, blink my eyes a few times, whatever, and then it goes away. Like, yeah, I'm just seeing things. Yeah. You know, because at like I was so young, like what I would have imagine how much that would have fucked my life if at that point I I was like, no, I see, I see people. There's people standing around my bed. Like, dude, I wouldn't have been like able to function normally. I wouldn't have been able to like sleep alone. I wouldn't have been able to sleep with the lights off. You know what I'm saying? Like I do. That would have fucked you up. And so I think it's better that I just wrote it off.

SPEAKER_03

Sure, sure. And I talked about this on the the Parapeculiar podcast, and that's where we can say more controversial things, I think. But I I've this idea, like I have to wonder how much serious like mental illness starts with something that is maybe like spiritual that we're like putting in a box and be like, nope, you're you're off, and then it makes them feel off. Like we we basically gaslight them without trying.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, this is something that you know we've we have talked about on there. I do very firmly believe that there is a very large intersection between mental health and like you know, things of that nature, and people just having abilities and having real experiences. And I will say this is um so Ta Taylor was a nurse, is a nurse. Um, specifically, she's just about to finish school, finally, for mental health, being a psych a psychiatric nurse. Um, so her and I had talked about that and seen people that, you know, it's like, no, dude, like I believe them. Like they had legitimate experiences. Somebody who I'm uh working with right now, doing mediumship mentor mentoring with, she's a nurse. She's talked about it, and being like, you know, no, dude, like some of these people, like it's they're having a legitimate, like I believe that they are having a legitimate actual paranormal experience. And you know, these doctors are like, oh, you're schizophrenic, like, here's meds, whatever. But from what I've gathered, and obviously, yes, this is controversial, whatever. No, this isn't, you know, allegedly, like, not we're not doctors, we don't know what we're talking about. This is just our personal beliefs.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but one of the things that I've heard.

SPEAKER_00

We do have a reverend now. So Rev. Rev, Rev Frent, Flint fancy.

SPEAKER_03

Frint, nope, it's Frent from now on. Flint, no.

SPEAKER_00

Our Reverend. Um yes. But anyway, um, you know, from them. But also, this is kind of a s area of special interest for me that if there's any research or things that come out that I can read on it, I do like to. Um, have heard basically one of the determining factors is like, okay, if they give you meds for this and it's still happening, that's a little sus. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_03

That's a tough one that I can't touch because, in my opinion, I would think that I would take it to a different place and say that a lot of the meds are probably driving these people even more crazy and then making them feel worse and whatever. But we're not we won't go into that.

SPEAKER_00

Side effects.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but that that so that it's interesting though, that story that I told, you know, it probably was a genuine uh uh phenomena that that was experienced by uh the person that that it experienced it. And you know, looking back on it, like, no, there would have been I she would have had to have been like, well, I'm gonna research this and then set this whole thing up, and then what that would that that would seem weird.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And how do you even make a hand print and ash on your own?

SPEAKER_03

I don't know, but it was fucking ash, dude.

SPEAKER_00

That is the size of a child's hand.

SPEAKER_03

It was ash. And at the time I was big into things like uh ancient aliens, right? Uh uh the Anunnaki, things like that. So I probably uh took it to somewhere like in that space, you know. I don't know. I think it's funny, I showed you a picture the other day. The first time I ever tried a beignet, it was at Cafe Dumont. It was that was the next morning.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um, so that was years ago.

SPEAKER_00

So you want to hear a weird uh synchronicity?

SPEAKER_03

The scariest thing about this whole podcast was the look that you would give me when I'm sitting here telling a story about some ex or something, and I'm like, oh fuck, the dagger's gonna what's happening? You know, so that was that was very uh nerve-wracking.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, good. I was nervous. Good. You should be. Yeah. Watch your mouth. Yeah. Anyway. Um you want to hear a watch it for me. You want to hear a weird synchronicity? I do. I think I might have told you this the first time you told me this story, which means you probably don't remember. Um, but before we even met many moons ago, I do have recorded somewhere in the RGO archives that has never been aired. I have a story recorded from somebody who stayed at the Andrew Jackson Hotel and talking about their experiences there. And I'm pretty I'm they not the like handprint with the ash, but I'm pretty sure it was hearing kids and children playing. It was wild because if I if I can dig it up and find it, I'll insert it in this episode right after this, but no promises because I was not very organized and I don't know where it would even be.

SPEAKER_03

But well, we'll put it in the Patreon, so you know. Um no, that was my story. And I I mean everyone talks about New Orleans as the most haunted city, and and it's interesting. Like, as much as I love New Orleans, we were actually just there. Um, I I I take issue with this fact that it's like got this like, oh, it's the haunted cities like, well, no, man, like everywhere's haunted.

SPEAKER_00

Like, you know, you want to talk about haunted, go to the Dakotas, all those fucking everywhere's haunted, however, and this is uh maybe this is a different topic for a different episode, but like I do believe that there are places like say New Orleans or like Savannah, you know, Savannah's wild, that they just are like Well, think about something. They just are more than a lot of people.

SPEAKER_03

They hearken back to what I was saying about how media shapes our perception of this. It always seems that the city that looks the part becomes the thing.

SPEAKER_00

Well, sure. And then it goes to what we were talking about with the hotels. You know, of course, like you have people coming in there day in, day out, constantly, like, oh wow, this is so haunted, this is so haunted, right? And so is that creating it and amping it up? I mean, yes, I think it's a lot of people.

SPEAKER_03

I think New Orleans then at that point would be like wild because the people that go there, you got like the frat boys that go on the weekends, like, oh go on a voodoo tour, bro. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Like maybe New Orleans is wild.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But then you also, like, when we're talking about New Orleans specifically, you know, also look at the amount of people that are there that are practicing like spiritual and these like religious practices, and even the people there who aren't, you know, practitioners, whatever, like it is also a very religious city.

SPEAKER_03

I'll give you that. The the the spiritual component is built into the city and it's still very very prevalent still. It's very prevalent.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's it is a part of their culture.

SPEAKER_03

It wasn't New Orleans, but when we were in Mississippi, we we popped over to um Louisiana. I don't know, what? Yeah, Louisiana, I don't know. Sound horrible, but we we stopped over to the scene. Uh we stopped over to the Myrtles. And we'll we'll talk about this on an episode because because of this trip, we are now going to do an official RGO episode on the Myrtles.

SPEAKER_00

The Myrtles. Well, we were going to and That was the experience, wasn't it? We'll probably talk about it more, I guess, on that episode, because I I feel like that's I I I don't know. But this is fucking wild. Well, we popped in there because the original thought was, you know, kind of like Bell Witch, like, oh, it's like a really well-known place, it's super famous, whatever. We'll just pop in there. We can do a, you know, a little like side story episode essentially talking about like, well, here's it, you know, the the lore with the Myrtles plantation, you know. But yeah, we got there and ooh, that turned out to be a lot more than we fucking bargained for.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and the amount we're gonna get there. You just keep listening, people. Uh, those are my hotel stories. I wish we could go down. If you do want to hear more about our weird theories on why certain hotels are maybe haunted, or or you want to hear more stories, you want to share some stories because we gotta do some more listener story episodes. Yes. Share them with us, bruvs. Send in your listener story. I'm hoping at some point we get a listener that has a story about a haunted showbiz pizza, right? Like that, you would know it as Chuck E. Cheese. So imagine that for a second. You go in, there's no one there, and you hear that mouse laughing. Ha ha ha ha ha. And what is that? And you look under the curtain, there's the band, and they start playing. That'd be creepy as fuck.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that'd be great.

SPEAKER_03

All right.

SPEAKER_00

That sounds like a nightmare.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think just a Chuck E. Cheese and normal operating hours full of children sounds like a nightmare, but that's probably just me.

unknown
