When you placed your faith in Jesus Christ, God did more than forgive your sins—He gave you a completely new identity. Through 2 Corinthians 5:17, you'll learn that your past no longer defines you because your life is now hidden in Christ.

 Welcome to the Yielded Mind's 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. If you've not done so already, please download your free companion journal by visiting theyieldedmind.com and clicking The Journal. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every yielded mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The yielded mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day three of your fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. This week, you are discovering who God says you are and learning to see yourself as God sees you. So far, you've learned that the Holy Spirit assures you that you belong to God and that your Heavenly Father knows you by name. Today, you'll discover what happens when you place your faith in Jesus Christ. Today's lesson is called A New Identity, and today's scripture is Second Corinthians five, verse seventeen, and I'll be reading from the ESV translation. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." Let's consider what the Holy Spirit is teaching through this passage. This is one of Paul's clearest descriptions of what happens at salvation. Notice that Paul doesn't say you become a better version of yourself. He says that if you are in Christ, you are a new creation. Everything hinges on the two words in Christ. Throughout his letters, Paul repeatedly uses this phrase to describe the believer's relationship with Jesus. Your identity is no longer found in your past, your accomplishments, your failures, or even your own opinion of yourself. Your identity is now found in Jesus Christ Himself. Paul isn't talking about self-improvement. He's talking about new life. When you trust in Christ, the Holy Spirit made you spiritually alive. Your old identity, separated from God and defined by sin, no longer has the final word. God has begun something entirely new within you. Does that mean you'll never struggle again? No. Your mind is still being renewed, and your soul is learning to agree with what God has already accomplished through Christ. This is why the Christian life is a journey. The Holy Spirit continues to transform your thinking so that your life increasingly reflects the new identity He has already given you. This is why you don't have to remain imprisoned by your past. Your failures are not your identity. Your regrets are not your identity. Your successes are not your identity. If you, friend, are in Christ, your identity is found in Him alone. This is another step in the yielded mind. As you yield your mind, friend, to the indwelling Holy Spirit, you begin to believe what God says about you instead of what your past says about you. The more your mind agrees with God's truth, the more your life reflects the new creation He has already made you to be Today, yield your mind to this truth, that in Christ you are a new creation. Your past no longer defines you because your identity is found in Him. Let's pray. Father, thank you for the new life you have given us all through Jesus Christ. I pray this listener listening right this moment would see themselves as you see them, not through the lens of their past, but through the finished work of your Son. Renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to your indwelling Holy Spirit. Help them to walk confidently in the new identity you have already given them, and to trust that you are faithfully transforming their life each and every day. And I pray this in the precious and perfect name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen
