Welcome to Day 4 of The Yielded Mind – A 50-Day Journey of Reflection and Renewal. As Revelation Week continues, you'll discover another beautiful truth about your identity in Christ. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you in Christ according to His gracious purpose. Through Ephesians 1:4, you'll learn that your worth is not determined by your achievements but by the God who loved you long before you could ever earn His favor.
In today's episode, you'll learn what it means to be chosen in Christ, why holiness is the result rather than the cause of God's grace, and how resting in His love frees you from striving to prove your worth.

My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every Yielded Mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now, take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The Yielded Mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day four of your 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. This week, you're discovering who God says you are and learning to see yourself as He sees you. You've discovered that you belong to God, that He knows you by name, and that in Christ, you have been given a new identity. Today, you'll discover that your relationship with God did not begin with your pursuit of Him, but with His loving purpose towards you. Today's lesson is called Chosen by God, and today's passage is from Ephesians chapter one, verse four. I'll be reading from the ESV translation Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless before him. Now let's consider what the Holy Spirit is teaching through this passage. Paul begins his letter to the church in Ephesus by praising God for every spiritual blessing found in Christ. One of those blessings is found in this remarkable truth. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you. Think about what this means. Before you took your first breath, before you accomplished your first success, before you experienced your first failure, God's purpose was already at work. Notice something important. Paul says that God chose you in Christ. Your salvation has never been based on your ability to earn God's favor. From beginning to end, it is rooted in His grace and fulfilled through His Son. Why did God choose you? Paul answers that question in the very same verse, that you should be holy and blameless before Him. Holiness is not the reason God chose you. Holiness is the result of belonging to Him. God is faithfully shaping your life into the likeness of Jesus Christ as your mind is renewed by His truth. This truth changes the way you see yourself. The world teaches that your value is determined by what you achieve. Your performance becomes your identity. God teaches something entirely different. Your value is not established by what you accomplish. Your value rests in the God who chose you and calls you His own. Long before you could do anything for Him, He set His love upon you through Jesus Christ. And this is yet another step in the yielded mind. As you, friend, yield your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit, you stop striving to earn your worth. Instead, you rest in the confidence that your life is secure in Christ. And from that place of security, the indwelling Holy Spirit continues His work of transforming you into the person God created you to be. So today, yield your mind to this truth, that your value is not determined by your performance. Your value rests in the God who chose you in Christ before the foundation of the world. Let's pray. Father, thank you for loving this listener today with an everlasting and unfailing love. Thank you that your purpose for their life did not begin with their achievements, but with your grace. I pray that you, Father, would free them from the burden of trying to earn their worth and help them rest in the security of belonging to you through Jesus Christ. Father, renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to you. May they walk today with quiet confidence, knowing that they are deeply loved, graciously chosen, and faithfully being transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. And I pray this in his precious and perfect name. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
