The Yielded Mind Podcast
Created for those who desire lasting transformation, this podcast guides you through the daily practice of renewing your mind through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. In a world filled with pressure, noise, and constant demands, many attempt to change through effort, discipline, and control. True transformation does not come from striving. Transformation comes as the mind yields to the Spirit of God already at work within. Your host is Eric Hayes, minister, teacher, and author of The Yielded Mind. His work equips believers to step out of self-driven effort and walk in daily surrender, where the Holy Spirit brings lasting change from within. This is not a podcast for reflection. This is a pathway to transformation.

The battle within you is not proof of defeat. It is evidence that the Holy Spirit is leading you toward the life God desires for you.
Welcome to Day 8 of The Yielded Mind – A 50-Day Journey of Reflection and Renewal. As Conflict Week begins, you'll discover that the struggle within every believer is not a sign of failure but a normal part of the Christian life. The Holy Spirit has revealed your identity in Christ. Now He begins teaching you how to live from that identity in the midst of an ongoing battle between the flesh and the Spirit. Through Galatians 5:17, you'll learn why this conflict exists and how the Holy Spirit faithfully empowers you to walk in victory.
In today's episode, you'll learn why every believer experiences an inner battle, how to recognize the competing voices within your mind, and why the Holy Spirit gives you the strength to choose His leading one faithful step at a time.
Today's Scripture: Galatians 5:17
In This Episode:
- Why every follower of Christ experiences an inner battle
- The difference between the desires of the flesh and the leading of the Holy Spirit
- Why the presence of conflict is evidence of spiritual life rather than spiritual failure
- How the battlefield is often your mind
- Why you no longer fight the battle alone
- A guided prayer for strength to follow the Holy Spirit's leading
Key Truth: "The battle within you is not proof of defeat. The battle is evidence that you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and He is leading you toward the life God desires for you."
Reflection Question: Where do you most often experience the battle between trusting the Holy Spirit and returning to old patterns of thinking?
Prayer Focus: Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment to recognize His voice, renew your mind through His truth, and strengthen you to choose His leading over the desires of the flesh.

Welcome to the Yielded Mind's 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. If you've not done so already, please download your free companion journal by visiting theyieldedmind.com and clicking The Journal. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every yielded mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The yielded mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day eight of your 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. Last week in Revelation, you discovered who God says you are. You learned that you belong to God, that He knows you by name, that in Christ you've been given a new identity, that He chose you, created you with purpose, and has given you His Holy Spirit to guide you. This week, your journey moves into conflict As the Holy Spirit reveals truth, old patterns of thinking do not disappear overnight. Your mind may feel pulled in two different directions. One voice leads you toward trusting God. The other draws you back toward fear, self-reliance, and the habits of the old nature. The struggle does not mean something is wrong with you. The struggle is part of the Christian life. Today's lesson is called The Inner Battle, and today's scripture passage can be found in Galatians chapter five, verse seventeen. And I'm reading from the ESV translation. "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." Let's consider what the Holy Spirit is teaching through this passage. Paul describes a conflict every follower of Jesus understands. The flesh desires one thing. The Holy Spirit desires another. These two are opposed to one another. Notice that Paul doesn't describe this conflict to discourage you. He explains this conflict so you won't be surprised by it. The presence of this battle, friend, is not evidence that God has abandoned you. It is evidence that the Holy Spirit is actively working within you. Before you came to Christ, your old nature was free to pursue its own desires without resistance. But now, the indwelling Holy Spirit is leading you in a new direction, and this creates conflict. The battle is often in your mind. Will you believe what God has said or what fear tells you? And friend, fear is a liar. Will you walk by faith or be driven by your feelings? Will you trust the Holy Spirit or return to the old patterns that once controlled your life? Every believer faces this very struggle. The difference is that you no longer fight alone. The same Holy Spirit who revealed your identity in Revelation Week now empowers you to live according to it. He doesn't simply expose the conflict. He gives you the strength to walk the victory one step at a time. These upcoming seven days are not about pretending the struggle doesn't exist. These seven days are about learning to recognize the voices competing for your attention and choosing moment by moment to yield your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit, the very mind of Christ. Today, yield your mind to this truth. The battle within you is not proof of defeat. The battle is evidence that you, my friend, are filled with the Holy Ghost, and he is leading you toward the life God desires for you. Let's pray. Father, thank you for faithfully working in the life of this listener today. When they experience the struggle between the flesh and the spirit, remind them that you have not abandoned them. Give them discernment to recognize the voice of your indwelling Holy Spirit and the courage to follow your leading. Renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to you. Strengthen them to walk in the freedom Christ has already secured for them. And I pray this in the precious and perfect name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
