As Conflict Week continues, you'll discover that temptation is a normal part of the Christian life, but it is never greater than God's faithfulness. Through 1 Corinthians 10:13, you'll learn that every temptation is accompanied by God's promise to provide the strength and the way of escape you need to remain faithful.

Welcome to the Yielded Mind's 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every yielded mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The yielded mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day 11 of your 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. This week, you are learning to recognize the conflict that takes place within every believer. You've discovered that the struggle between the spirit and the flesh is real, that your thoughts must be brought under the authority of Jesus Christ, and that every voice should be tested against God's Word. Today, you'll discover that temptation is not a sign that God has abandoned you, but rather temptation becomes an opportunity to trust Him. Today's lesson is called When Temptation Comes, and today's passage can be found in First Corinthians chapter 10, verse 13. I'll be reading from the ESV translation. "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Let's consider what the Holy Spirit is teaching through this passage. Paul reminds you that temptation is part of living in a fallen world. Every follower of Christ faces temptation because every follower of Christ is learning to walk by the Spirit while resisting the desires of the flesh. One of Satan's favorite lies is that your struggle is unique. Shame grows when you begin believing no one else wrestles with the thoughts, desires, or temptations you battle. God says otherwise. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. Your struggle may feel personal, but you are not fighting a battle no one else has faced. Believers throughout every generation have experienced the same conflict between the spirit and the flesh. Paul then moves your attention away from temptation and toward God's character, saying, "God is faithful." These three words change everything. God never promises to remove temptation from your life. What He does promise is that His faithfulness will never fail you. Every temptation arrives with God's promise that He will provide what you need to remain faithful. Notice Paul's words carefully. God provides the way of escape. That escape is not always a doorway out of the situation. Many times, friend, the escape comes through the strength to choose obedience, the wisdom to recognize deception, the courage to walk away, or the scripture the Holy Spirit brings to your mind at exactly the right moment. Preparation for victory begins long before temptation appears. A mind that is daily yielded to the Holy Spirit is prepared to recognize temptation and respond with truth instead of impulse. The Holy Spirit strengthens you to choose obedience because your mind has already been renewed by God's Word. This is another step in the yielded mind. Every temptation becomes another opportunity to trust God's faithfulness. Every act of obedience on your part strengthens your confidence that the Holy Spirit is faithfully leading you, even in the middle of the battle. Today, yield your mind to this truth. God's faithfulness is greater than your temptation, and He will always provide the strength you need to walk in obedience. Let's pray. Father, thank you for your unfailing faithfulness. I pray for this listener as they face temptation and the daily conflict between the spirit and the flesh. Remind them that they never face the battle alone and never stand beyond the reach of your grace. Strengthen them through your Holy Spirit to recognize the way of escape you faithfully provide and to choose obedience over compromise. Renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to you. Fill them with confidence that your grace is sufficient and that your power is made perfect in weakness. May today's victory become another reminder that you are faithful in every circumstance. And I pray this in the precious and perfect name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
