The Yielded Mind Podcast
Created for those who desire lasting transformation, this podcast guides you through the daily practice of renewing your mind through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. In a world filled with pressure, noise, and constant demands, many attempt to change through effort, discipline, and control. True transformation does not come from striving. Transformation comes as the mind yields to the Spirit of God already at work within. Your host is Eric Hayes, minister, teacher, and author of The Yielded Mind. His work equips believers to step out of self-driven effort and walk in daily surrender, where the Holy Spirit brings lasting change from within. This is not a podcast for reflection. This is a pathway to transformation.

Stillness is not the absence of activity. It is the presence of trust.
Welcome to Day 17 of The Yielded Mind – A 50-Day Journey of Reflection and Renewal. As Discipline Week continues, you'll discover that one of the most important spiritual disciplines is learning to be still before God. In a world filled with noise, distraction, and constant activity, the Holy Spirit invites you to slow down, release your striving, and recognize God's faithful presence. Through Psalm 46:10, you'll learn that stillness is not weakness—it is an expression of confidence in God's sovereign care.
In today's episode, you'll learn what it truly means to "be still," why a quiet heart is more attentive to the Holy Spirit, and how daily moments in God's presence cultivate deeper peace and trust.
Today's Scripture: Psalm 46:10

Welcome to The Yielded Mind's 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. If you've not done so already, please download your free companion journal by visiting theyieldedmind.com and clicking The Journal. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every yielded mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The yielded mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day 17 of your 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. This week, your journey centers on discipline. Revelation helped you see who God says you are. Conflict taught you that the Christian life includes a real battle between the spirit and the flesh. Discipline is where you begin to practice living differently. Discipline does not earn God's favor. Discipline trains your mind to respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Yesterday, you discovered that remaining in God's Word leads to freedom. Today, you'll discover why learning to be still is essential for recognizing God's presence. Today's lesson is called Learning to Be Still, and today's passage is found in Psalm 46:10, and I'm reading from the New Living Translation Be still and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. Psalm forty-six describes a world filled with turmoil. Nations are at war. Kingdoms rise and fall. Mountains shake, and the earth seems unstable. Right in the middle of that chaos, God speaks, and he says, "Be still and know that I am God." Many people read those words as an invitation to relax. The psalmist, however, is calling you to something much deeper. The Hebrew word translated be still means to let go, to cease striving, or to release your grip. God is calling you to stop relying on your own strength, friend, and recognize that He alone is sovereign over every circumstance. A busy mind struggles to do that. Constant activity, endless distractions, anxious thoughts, and hurried schedules leave little room to hear God's voice. Daily life becomes so loud that the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit is easily overlooked. Discipline teaches you to slow down. Time spent reading God's Word, talking with Him in prayer, and sitting quietly in His presence train your mind to become attentive. Those disciplines don't make God more present. They help you become more aware of the God who has been with you all along. Stillness is an act of trust. Choosing to pause before the Lord declares that He is in control even when life feels uncertain. Choosing to pause before the Lord declares that He is in control even when life feels uncertain. Choosing to be still reminds you that God is working even when you cannot yet see what He is doing. Peace begins to grow as your confidence transitions from your own effort to God's faithful care. Today, yield your mind to this truth. Stillness helps you recognize God's presence, trust His sovereignty, and listen more carefully to the voice of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Let's pray. Father, thank you for inviting this listener into the quietness of your presence. Slow their thoughts when life becomes hurried and calm every anxious distraction that competes for their attention. Renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to your indwelling Holy Spirit. Teach them to stop striving, rest confidently in your sovereignty, and recognize that you are always near. May they experience your presence today with renewed peace, deeper trust, and greater confidence in your faithful care. And I pray this in the precious and perfect name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
