The Yielded Mind Podcast
Created for those who desire lasting transformation, this podcast guides you through the daily practice of renewing your mind through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. In a world filled with pressure, noise, and constant demands, many attempt to change through effort, discipline, and control. True transformation does not come from striving. Transformation comes as the mind yields to the Spirit of God already at work within. Your host is Eric Hayes, minister, teacher, and author of The Yielded Mind. His work equips believers to step out of self-driven effort and walk in daily surrender, where the Holy Spirit brings lasting change from within. This is not a podcast for reflection. This is a pathway to transformation.

Welcome to the Yielded Mind's 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. My name is Eric Hayes, and this is your daily invitation to quiet the noise, yield your thoughts to the indwelling Holy Spirit, and allow Him to renew your mind through the truth of scripture. If you've not done so already, please download your free companion journal by visiting theyieldedmind.com and clicking The Journal. Doing so will best equip you to follow along as we walk through these 50 days together. Now, please pause and begin where every yielded mind begins, gratitude. In your journal, write down three things you're grateful for today. Consider sharing those gratefuls with someone you love, because gratitude shared strengthens both the one that gives thanks and the one that receives it. Now take a slow breath and prepare your heart for today's passage and teaching. Ask the Lord to make His word personal. Ask Him for revelation. Ask Him to expose all things that need to come under His authority. The yielded mind is formed through surrender. Open your heart. Open your journal. Open your mind to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Here is today's teaching. Welcome to day 18 of your 50-day journey of reflection and renewal. This week, your journey centers on discipline. Revelation week helped you see who God says you are. Conflict week taught you that the Christian life includes a real battle between the spirit and the flesh. And discipline is where you begin to practice living differently. Discipline does not earn God's favor. Discipline trains your mind to respond to the leading of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Yesterday, you discovered that learning to be still helps you recognize God's presence. Today, you'll discover how gratitude changes your mind to recognize God's faithfulness. Today's lesson is called Practicing Gratitude, and today's passage is found in First Thessalonians chapter five, verses 16 through 18, and I'll be reading from the ESV translation "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Paul closes this first letter to the Thessalonians with a series of short but powerful instructions, and these three belong together. One, rejoice always. Two, pray without ceasing. And three, give thanks in all circumstances. Notice what Paul says. He does not tell you to give thanks for every circumstance. He tells you to give thanks in every circumstance, and that distinction matters. Some experiences are painful. Some seasons bring grief, disappointment, or uncertainty. God is not telling you to pretend those things are good. He is inviting you to recognize that His goodness remains constant, even when your circumstances are difficult. Friend, gratitude changes the direction of your thinking. A mind left to itself naturally notices what is wrong, what is missing, or what might happen next. But gratitude intentionally turns your attention toward God's unchanging character, His daily provision, and His faithful promises. Discipline strengthens that habit. Each time you pause to thank God for His blessings, His favor, your mind becomes better trained to recognize His hand at work. Small evidence of His faithfulness become easier to see. Ordinary moments become reminders of His constant presence. Gratitude also protects your heart from discouragement. Write this down. Complaining magnifies problems. Gratitude magnifies God. A grateful mind begins to expect God's faithfulness because a grateful mind remembers His faithfulness. Gratitude acknowledges that every good and perfect gift comes from your Heavenly Father. Read James chapter one, verse seventeen. Today, friend, yield your mind to this truth. Gratitude changes your mind to recognize God's faithfulness and strengthens your confidence in His daily presence. Let's pray. Father, thank you for the countless ways you faithfully care for this listener each and every day. Open their eyes to recognize your goodness in both the ordinary moments and the difficult seasons of life. Renew their mind as they yield their thoughts, their will, and their emotions to your indwelling Holy Spirit. Replace every tendency toward worry or complaint with genuine gratitude for your constant love and faithful provision. May a grateful life become a lasting testimony of your goodness and your grace. And I pray this in the precious and perfect name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. As today's teaching comes to a close, do not rush past what the Holy Spirit may be revealing. Return now to your journal. Write down the revelation you have received. What truth stood out? What challenged your thinking? Next, prayerfully consider opportunities to serve today. Ask God who He might place in your path. How can you encourage, help, listen to, strengthen, or simply be present for someone in need? Be specific. Journal who, when, and how you plan to serve. And finally, as your day comes to an end this evening, return once more to your journal and invite the indwelling Holy Spirit to debrief about your day. Where was obedience strong? Where might repentance be needed? Are there persons to whom you owe an amends? End this day where it began, fully yielded to the indwelling mind of Christ, and I'll meet you again tomorrow on this fifty-day journey of reflection and renewal. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. In Jesus' name, amen.
