Some days just feel...off.

You blink, it's late afternoon, and you can't shake the feeling that you've been physically present all day but mentally somewhere else. Today was one of those days for me. I seriously considered saying, "Forget it," skipping the podcast, and calling it a day.

Instead, I hit record.

Today's Rebecca memory is exactly what you'd expect—our shared appreciation for the versatility of one particular four-letter word. If there's a funny video involving the word "fuck," chances are one of us is sending it to the other within minutes. Sometimes laughter really is the best therapy.

From there, I talk about something much deeper: showing up even when you don't feel like it. My gratitude jar reminded me how thankful I am for the home my husband and I have built together, especially after we spent an evening watching the FIFA Club World Cup projected onto the side of our house. It was such a simple moment, but one that reminded me how easy it is to overlook the good things when we're stuck in our own heads.

This episode is a reminder that motivation comes and goes, but commitment is a choice. I didn't want to record today... but I did it anyway. And somewhere between pressing "Record" and "Stop," I found the part of myself I'd been missing all day.

Maybe today is one of those days for you, too.

Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to another edition of 10 unedited minutes with Marlena. It is Tuesday, July 7th, 7-7. And I feel like my ring light is flickering. What the Anyway, it is the afternoon of Tuesday, 7-7. And um today's been one of those days. But anyway, let's start this off right. Today's episode is brought to you by my dear friend Rebecca Conklin Kleibomer. And Rebecca has agreed to sponsor. I'm gonna have to turn that damn light off, you guys.

SPEAKER_00

Why is it freaking doing that? Pause. Does that look better? It's for YouTube anyway.

SPEAKER_01

I might just I can't have that flickering, people. Anyway, this is why this is unedited. Anyway, where was I? This episode is brought to you by my dear friend, Rebecca Conklin Kleibomer. And Rebecca has agreed to sponsor two months worth of my episodes. Um, she has done so because she believes in me. She loves the work that I'm doing here with this podcast, and she wanted to support it. So a sponsorship, if you're interested, basically just covers my monthly subscription to Bud Sprout. Um and Bud Sprout is the platform that pushes this podcast out to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all the other lovely podcast listening things that you can use. And I also record this for YouTube and upload it to my YouTube channel. So if you love it, hit that follow button. Today, as I alluded to earlier, is what I call a fuck it day. And Rebecca, I just heard you cackle when I said that. So to honor my friend Rebecca, I've decided to uh utilize the uh next 60 episodes to start off with a memory of Rebecca or just a moment of loving on my sweet dear friend. And Rebecca is that friend that when I have a fuck it day, I think of you and I can laugh. And the reason for that is because I feel like her and I have this like equal attitude about how many times we can say the word fuck. And I'm sorry if you are somebody who who's listening to this and thought that I was this sweet, sweet girl that um never said a bad word in her life. If you know me, you know the opposite. But I am a very devout Catholic and Christian. I'm working on that. Um, but my attitude is, and if you're a priest listening to this, reach out to me and tell please tell me differently. But my attitude is, is where does where does it say that fuck is a bad word in the in the Bible? I don't think it does. But anyway, um, so Rebecca cracks me up because um either our TikTok uh messages, our Facebook messages probably has the most amount of videos in them where people use the word fuck a lot. And I don't know, it's just funny. Just it's just funny. And I don't know, Rebecca said I say it, she says it, but anyway, maybe we are soul sisters in that way. But um, I love you, Rebecca. I love everything about you. I love I even love that you say the word fuck just as much as I do. Um so anyway, thank you for sponsoring this podcast. And what are we gonna talk about today? I don't even I don't even know, right? Like it's just been one of those days. It's 4 30 in the afternoon. I've been at this desk kind of all day. Um, and I'm not complaining. I'm not complaining because I've actually been working um all day, and it feels kind of nice. But I've been trying to work, and then my sweet, amazing granddaughter has been here most of the day, and maybe that's why I'm maybe that's why I'm exhausted. That girl, I just have so much love for her that when she leaves I'm exhausted. But um she cracks me up. I don't even she was saying something before, and I was I was just, I don't know, I was just laughing over it. But my granddaughter is my world. I love her to death. I love her to pieces. But the thing that um I kind of reflected on before I hit the record button because I was like, what the hell am I gonna talk about today? was that I I put this I put the recording of this podcast off so long today because I didn't want to do it. And um I don't back in April, I don't what what are we at episode 53, 54, 55? I don't even know. But anyway, I uh set a goal to record 365 of these episodes. And at first I started out, I wanted to do it every single day, but then and I did for a week or two, but then um when Sunday rolled around, I was like, you know what? Sundays should be really be for resting and um devoting your day to the Lord. So I decided to not record on Sundays. So um, but anyway, I set this goal, and even on the days that I don't want to show up, I still need to show up. And that's what's kind of been eating at my stomach all day is like Marlena, you set this goal to record this podcast, and you're just gonna like blow it off today for no reason, just because you're tired. That's not how life works, people. Like, even when you're tired, you need to show up. If you set a goal, if you commit to something, you need to honor that commitment. And I've always been that way, I've always um held that attitude. And today is no different. That just because I've been working all day, working and you know, um loving on my grandbaby, and I'm tired, that doesn't mean that I can just not honor this commitment to record 365 days worth of podcasts. So I had I had to do it. I would have felt worse if I didn't do this than um anything, than I do now. So here we are. So the lesson in today's podcast, um, even when you don't feel like it, you should show up. But the other day, the other day too, I forgot something. The other day is my gratitude jar. And I I was so mad when I hit the end button on my podcast and didn't acknowledge my gratitude jar. I I did put a uh a slip of paper in there. And for those of you that are just starting to listen to me, um I introduced this gratitude jar, uh, I don't know how long ago. I've got four slips of paper in there, but I have not done it every single day. So maybe a week ago. And I'm going to write one thing every single day that I'm grateful for and put it in this jar. And and the idea is number one, at the end of those 365 days, you'll have 365 little notes that you can review and um remember what you are grateful for. And um the other thing that it serves is you have to find the positive in everything in life, right? Like, I I don't know, today is one of those days where I'm just like, fuck everything. I'm tired, I'm not getting anywhere. This is whatever. But this gratitude jar is gonna lift my spirits, and it's working already because I remembered something that I'm very grateful for. And it happened last night. So I don't know how many of you are religiously watching the World Cup soccer tournament. Yes, if you're listening in England, it we call it soccer, but to honor you, the football tournament. Okay. Um, so last night the USA played Belgium. I was like, who did we play? We played Belgium and we got smoked by them. Three, four, it ended up four to one. And um it the weather outside was beautiful. My husband and I love to sit outside on these summer nights and just have a little fire in our fire pit. And um, then when it either gets dark or the mosquitoes start coming out, we come in. And I've had this like projector thing that I've been wanting to um set up outside of my backyard and uh project like a movie for the kids, like have a movie night and project it off of off of a bed sheet or the side of my house or whatever. And last night I was like, you know what? I'm gonna try to see if I can get that to work, and I did. And so we were able to stream the world, the game on the side of our house, and we were able to sit out there and watch it, and it was so cool. And I was like, I I just gave God all the praise and all the glory for giving me this beautiful home, that beautiful projector. I mean, I've had it for a couple years now, and we were able to, you know, buy it, uh I think for Christmas one year for the kids, and you know, the little things, right? I have this beautiful house. I've had this projector for two years, I've had the technology to be able to um project and broadcast TV outside in my backyard all this time, and I don't need to go out and buy a big 72-inch TV to hang on the side of my house. I can just use this little projector. And honestly, if I go buy a $40 Roku stick, I can watch TV on it outside. How cool is that without my computer? So, anyway, that's what I was grateful for. And I just was sitting there last night just enjoying it and just being grateful for that. So I think this daily practice of putting this little piece of paper in a gratitude jar has really kind of turned my mind, my mindset around and um has uh forced me to start looking at things in a positive manner. So and this podcast it's done the trick, it's lifted my spirits today.

So for my gratitude jar, I am grateful for my beautiful home.

And I want to know if you guys are doing this, okay? Please leave me a comment, shoot me a text, shoot me a message, and tell me if this is something you're doing. And it's 7-7. And if you love 7 brew, go to 7 brew today and you'll get a free little uh charm to put on your purse. I didn't go, but I saw that when they texted it to me. So that is going in my gratitude jar. And look at that. I filled up 10 minutes of time. And um, again, I if you get offended by me saying that word, I apologize. I try to read the room, and I can't read the room when it's just me in this microphone. So um I love you. I hope you love me anyway. Uh, I'm sure you do, but anyway, thank you for supporting me, for supporting this podcast. Um, it really is a way for me to just, you know, have a purpose uh every single day and to have a reason to look forward to something. So, Rebecca, thank you for getting me on the gratitude journey many, many years ago. I love you so much. Um, I love that you um agreed to sponsor this podcast. You're so supportive in whatever I do, and I love you for that. So, you guys pray for me. I pray for you every single day. I love you, and we will see you tomorrow. Bye.
