Hi, and welcome to Two Chairs, No Filter with Sarah Kate and Holly, where we bring you the real life, the real beauty, and an unfiltered conversation.
SPEAKER_00Good morning. Welcome to Two Chairs, No Filter with Sarah Kate and Holly. Happy Monday. It's Monday for us whenever you're listening. It's Monday morning for us. A gloomy Monday at that. Yeah. Bummer out there. I don't think I'm gonna hit the pool. I've been hating the pool so much. We have been at the pool all weekend long. Are you tired of it? The kids have been I mean, I don't know that we're quite tired of it, but I you know what I get tired of the most is that the water all starts to feel like bath water and then it's not refreshing. Like it gets hot enough that it's just like you just walk in and it's just wet and you're like, hmm, that's not hitting how I wanted it to. So it we are not at that phase quite yet. Um, or it's been raining enough that it's cooled off the pool enough so that it doesn't feel like that. But when I get to that place, then I'm like, okay, summer needs to be over. Yeah, I agree. Plus, it's almost almost over, really, for the kids. Well, summer for our kids is almost over. They have probably only three more weeks left, if that. Right. I feel like, yeah, I feel like they probably have it's probably three weeks left. Um, but I have not broken that news to my kids yet because I'm not ready for the fall out of that. So we're just gonna keep trucking through summer and let them keep enjoying every single day as best they can.
SPEAKER_01I would, I would for sure. Well, I just got back, you know, midweek last week from Maine and visiting my family, and probably the biggest misconception about Maine is that it's cold all the time, and it really isn't. Um, when we landed, the airport in Portland must have had a malfunctioning air conditioning unit because there was no air conditioning, and Sean's like, it's hot already, and then to progress through the week of the 4th of July, it was hot, it was over 95, at least three of the days, and you know, like Europe, air conditioning is sparse. Yeah, very sparse. And when the air conditioning is working, it's kind of like in the south during our real cold snaps here when you can't get warm indoors. I feel like it's opposite with the northeast when it's that hot. Some places it's really, really cold, or you just can't get cooled off. So anyway, it was a great time. Talk about water. Sean and I went to the beach a couple of times in the Northern Atlantic. I asked the lifeguard because they didn't have the temperature of the water on their lifeguard stand, and it was 60 degrees.
SPEAKER_00Right. Oh my gosh, are people getting in that? People aren't getting in that. No. I'm ever here talking about bath water, and you're like, well, it's 60 degrees.
SPEAKER_01I mean, the on land it wasn't, but like I told Sean, I'm just gonna walk and get my I don't even wear a bathing suit to the beach in the north. No, you're not getting in the wheel. So why wear a bathing suit? So I just wear my little Lululemon shorts, a tank top, and call it a day, get my feet wet, and I'm good to go.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh, that is cold. Wow. I wonder, I didn't get in the North Sea when we were at uh when we were in the Netherlands. The kids put their feet in, but like it was a cold day. Like it was really, really windy on the beach, and the kids were like dying to get in, you know, the water. And Brian put his feet in too. I'm like, mmm, I don't I I have real shoes and socks on, and that's not that's not part of my wasn't part of the plan. Things I'm okay with. Not okay for me. No, no, no, no, no. Because what am I gonna do with sandy feet afterwards? I have no idea if there's like a water situation where I can wash my feet off. I don't have a towel to dry my feet off to put the socks back on. Like it that was a logistical nightmare for me that I was willing to figure out for them, but not willing to figure out for myself, which is what I did. But I wonder how cold that was.
SPEAKER_01The Dagum North Sea. I bet that was just as cold. Well, regardless, the wind off a cold ocean is cooler. So I felt like it was cooler at the beach than it was, you know, an hour 45 minutes inland. About 40 minutes is where my mom lives, inland from the ocean. So I would say, yeah, that wind cools you off and it's cold no matter what way.
SPEAKER_00I did see people getting in, you know. People were laying out with bathing suits on, and I'm like, these people are crazy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, there were a got a lot of kids in the water.
SPEAKER_00That's but when you're a kid, you don't imagine how cold that's well, you don't care, you don't feel anything, anyways. Because I remember being a little girl at you know, Gigi's pool, and I'd come out with like purple lips. I'm like, nope. I'm not. They're like, Well, your lips are purple and your teeth are chattering. I'm like, I'm good. You're good. You're good.
SPEAKER_01I'm good. It's funny. So this week we were gonna talk about ways to save, like save time, save money, how to extend out the life of your hairstyle without compromising your style or feeling like you look ragged.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just keep you fresh, but like, you know, I mean, life is lifing right now. I think everybody is feeling that life is lifing, and like, you know, not to get political because that's not our jam, but like it's just I think everybody's feeling tighter. A hundred percent. And I think everybody's feeling that it doesn't, it's not a political statement, it's just everyone's feeling like holy moly, life is lifing really hard. And I'm seeing that really from like every age group, like, you know, whether it's young families or even with, you know, more older retirees that come in. Like, I feel like I'm seeing it with everybody, and everybody's like, gosh, everything's so expensive, everything is just ugh, you know, mounting.
SPEAKER_01Two things that I've noticed is I see more people that look of the retirement age working. That's one thing I've noticed. Oh, I would agree. Another thing that has been trending for at least the past two years is thrifting. And I know Gen Z has been amazing about thrifting just for earth, you know, keeping the earth clean and for recycling purposes. But also it's really starting to trend amongst older generations as well.
SPEAKER_00I don't know that I have quite the patience to like truly thrift. Like, did thrift close? I'm like, ugh, not for me. But like what ask me to walk through an antique store, uh, I'll go through five.
SPEAKER_01You'd be surprised what you find around here at certain um not thrift, but like consignment. Like secondhand like consignment. Thank you. That's yeah, you'd be surprised at what you find. I get mother jeans, I've never paid full price for a pair of mother jeans. Never.
SPEAKER_00Oh, well, that is nice. You gotta you gotta be ready to look though, you know?
SPEAKER_01And you have to have good eyes to know what the value is for, you know, to get your best bang for your buck. But there's also online places like I send a sack of clothes to thread up and they sell it for you, which is fabulous.
SPEAKER_00But you know, I took I took some of um the kids' stuff to kid to kid the other day, and it's like nearly insulting.
SPEAKER_01They you will never get your money back.
SPEAKER_00Never, but you just because like it's the good stuff, like it's you know, uh it's from Hannah Anderson, it's from Jay Crew, it's from like and stuff that they barely wore, you know, it was like, oh, I got that for you know, whatever picture, this, that, and the other, they wore it for Christmas, and that was it. And I'm just thinking, like, really, because I mean I don't give shoes because my kids wear out some shoes, but I'm just like, okay, that was honestly just a waste of my time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, in that case, you should just donate it or whatever.
SPEAKER_00Right. Just donate it to somebody that means something to me. Anyways, all that to say, I think that there are ways that we can bring it to the salon and and save where we can save it.
SPEAKER_01First off, a few weeks ago, I spent a Monday doing a blonding class. And one of the trends that we've been seeing online is old money gold and richening your blonde hair up a little bit, giving it some more color, so you're not that far off from your natural color. And honestly, if I could get more of my clients on board with a little bit of sunshine, not brass, but sunshine, it would look so much better because a lot of times when women go too pale or too ashy of a beigey blonde or a pale blonde, it looks like gray hair. True.
SPEAKER_00That's true. I also like a little bit of golden um in my formulas because I feel like it throws a little bit of warmth back at your skin. And I feel like as you get older, you kind of lose some of that glow. Um, and so I feel like the having a golden kind of tone in your hair can throw a little bit of that warmth back on your skin. Um, so I don't think it's necessarily always bad to have the warmth and have those golden tones, whereas for so long everybody's just been like, no gold, absolutely no gold. I hate gold. It's brassy, I hate it.
SPEAKER_01I don't think it has to be golden, I think it can just be warmer. I agree. And also, you know, look at your skin without any makeup and just look at your undertone. And just because you might have more pink in your skin than say somebody with more olive complexion doesn't mean that you can't wear a little bit of warmth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, my I keep my, I mean, obviously, my my color is warm. Like I've got red and I've got a golden y blonde in there. So I think it it does serve its purpose to sort of stay in your tones, not just, oh, ashy blonde is in, therefore I'm getting ashy red.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. Just take a minute to look at your natural skin undertone and also back to your point earlier about what is your natural base color with no color on it uh whatsoever.
SPEAKER_00And I know a lot of women are like, I don't know, I've been coloring my hair for 35 years. How would I know what my natural color is anymore? And that's valid.
SPEAKER_01I mean that that is valid. Right. And if you let enough regrowth in, ask your stylist like, what color would you say my natural color is? Because a lot of people would be surprised at how people's hair darkens with time. So what our memory might be as a younger individual is not the same at our current age, especially going through hormone shifts, pregnancy also darkens your natural hair color along with perimenopause, which can start as early as in your 30s. Okay, that's it is, it is.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that's so rude. But it's true. I think there's so many times when, as a stylist, like somebody sits down in your chair and they're like, Well, but I'm a blonde, and you're like very clearly looking at a brunette because they are still seeing themselves as they were when they were, you know, 10 years old, and they were this little toe head blonde, but now they're very solidly a brunette. And so to not really change what your hair needs and the tone that it needs as as you go through, because you're just like, oh, in my head, I'm a blonde, I'm a blonde. Um, and honestly, I'm a little guilty of that too, because I very much still think of myself as a redhead, but most people don't look at me and think of me as a redhead. So I'm absolutely guilty of this along with clients. So I'm not hating on anybody. When my hair came back in after chemo, it came in a very different color. And I feel like it's just not as bright, not as brilliant. Um, and especially I look at my kids' hair color and I'm like, my hair color used to be that. Why do I don't look like that anymore? And you know, my blonde highlights aside, my red doesn't look like that anymore. It does not look like my kid's color anymore. Um, so I'm gonna blame that on chemo and not on perimenopause, but let's be serious, it could be both at this juncture. Um, so I'm absolutely guilty of it too. Um, but that's one of those things where I'm not I am not willing to start doing a base color that looks like my kid's hair color because I just honestly don't have enough time in my life.
SPEAKER_01Well, fortunately, and I was thinking about this the other day for you. Most blondes, natural redheads, gingers, they just become a little flat, their color. And I feel like that's what's probably happened with your natural color. And the fortunate part of that is you don't really gray. Honestly, it just kind of just gets mousy and lighter.
SPEAKER_00I'm looking mousy, which is why I keep the blonde in there so I don't feel so mousy. Um, and you know, maybe things will change one day, and I'll just be like, you know what, I'm just gonna perk up this hair color and really actually make it red like my kids again. But that today, that day is not today.
SPEAKER_01So, rule number one to save money or time is if your hair color is too dark for your regrowth, maybe soften that a little bit by adding even some highlights or just gradually going lighter, which has to take place gradually, or it will look like you didn't color your hair if you go too drastic for a retouch.
SPEAKER_00I think that's really helpful to just go a little bit lighter each time. Um, and then all of a sudden you kind of end up at that magic place where it's like, oh, this is the right color for me. You know, it blends with my gray enough. Um, it looks good with my skin tone. I feel like that's honestly one of the best ways to go. I don't, it's not that I hate, you know, adding highlights to it too, but sometimes that just feels like one more thing to upgrade. Right.
SPEAKER_01And sometimes though, like around the face, sometimes putting a couple of baby lights will soften it enough to get you maybe an extra week. So if you usually retouch your gray every four weeks, maybe just a few baby lights could stretch it to five or six weeks. Just thinking, or in the part, and then the same is true with the blonde. If you just darken it just a hair or add a little more dimension by adding either a deeper blonde or a low light, you might be able to get instead of eight weeks on a retouch highlight, maybe go ten or twelve weeks. And then if you need a trim in between, you could always do the trim every other time, like every five to six weeks, and then do a toner or do a deep conditioning treatment in the salon at that point, and then come back for your color in six more weeks.
SPEAKER_00I also think you can get a little bit of longevity out of your haircut if you I mean not if you have like a really short pixie or whatever. Um, but if you've got it a little bit longer, I think you can stretch it a little bit if you're doing other things to take care of your hair. You know, if you're doing the deep conditioning treatment at home once a week, if you're, you know, making sure you're using the products to protect your hair while you're styling it, maybe you're even giving it a little break from styling it, you know, a couple times a week. You don't do the heat, whatever, you just, you know, let it be natural or whatever. I think you can get a little bit more longevity out of your haircut too, which can help you stretch your time and your money a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Right. And just because you have short hair doesn't mean you can't stretch your haircut out as well. Because just styling your hair a little differently, you know, usually when I first get a haircut, I don't like my hair, no matter what length it is. Usually a week or two in, I like my hair better as it's grown just slightly. So it's like taking that concept of cycling your hair products, but cycling how you style your hair even. So if you have shorter hair and you don't like the hair on your ears, just tuck it back behind your ears, or just ask your stylist different ways you could style your hair in between cuts to stretch it out.
SPEAKER_00I think that's a great idea because there are a lot of different options for how to style your hair, even long hair. There's a lot of different options to style. I mean, there's times when I go through a lot of curls or like I do lots of crimping or I wear it up a lot more. Right now, this time of year, I wear it up a lot more because it's so hot. But I mean, I think there's a lot of different ways where you can take care of your hair and kind of protect it with different styling technically.
SPEAKER_01Even with bangs, uh, we offer complementary bang trims in the salon so you could get a bang trim in between or a fringe trim, whichever part of the world you're in. And along with sometimes it takes a smaller round brush or curl your bangs a little more to keep them out of your eyes. Just the thought.
SPEAKER_00And you know, if you need to just snip them, spray them a little harder.
SPEAKER_01Don't snip them. Well, if you snip them, you never the biggest mistake people make with snipping their own bangs is a they think a little is good, a lot's better, negative. You just need a touch, and you definitely need like a cuticle sheer, a skinnier, pointier, and point V's into the bangs.
SPEAKER_00Stop telling people to cut their own bangs, Holly. Holly does this. Holly does this when she's um annoyed with her bangs. She goes in and starts cutting them. Okay, so everybody feels that way, but don't my recommendation is don't do it. My recommendation is pop by the salon and let us cut your bangs real quick for nothing. Sorry guys. That was probably so loud. That was a dog. That was a dog in my recording studio, which is the dining room. That's funny.
SPEAKER_01No, we're good. We really do we do not edit our no, that's gonna be that's gonna stay. Yeah, so you just give us totally unfiltered. We're staying true to our title.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no filter. No filter, no filter, no editing. You're gonna get the dogs, you're gonna get the barking. Um sorry, perfect. I apologize.
SPEAKER_01So back to like maybe if you don't feel confident in cutting your banks, probably back six years ago during the pandemic, the biggest videos that would show up on my feed were videos of people doing at-home haircutting. And the biggest mistake that anybody makes, even my clients make by talking to me in my chair, they're like, I told you to take more off last time, and that was a big mistake. So just trust the process. That's so true. In a little snip, if you're in a bind, like minuscule amount will make all the difference. But I would stick to rolling your brush a little more, spraying them out of your face rather than another side note to make your hair last a little longer, too, is overwashing. We preach this every single week, I feel. Overwashing.
SPEAKER_00We do. We do. So, I mean, that's gonna do a number of things. Like, what in washing too often is just going to wash your color out of your hair. I mean, it is like it's going to make it dull quicker. Um, it's also gonna dry your hair out. It's gonna, you know, like it's just not, it's not gonna maintain your hair health for sure.
SPEAKER_01The less you wash, the better. Like, if you could even wash your hair, say twice a week, if you can't get away with once a week, twice a week. Yeah, twice a week is fair. I think that's a very normal amount. I usually I counted last week even with travel. I ended up shampooing my hair three times.
SPEAKER_00So, I mean, that's still good though.
SPEAKER_01Like I feel like that's okay. That's very reasonable. And I try to stay active every day. I'm not a heavy head sweater and I have natural wavy hair. So people with straight, fine hair, I really feel for because their hair gets the oiliest.
SPEAKER_00I would agree with that, but I still think that you can get away with a lot of of horrible sins of your thin hair with some with the right hair. I really do. Um because I will Say, I don't have a whole lot of hair, and I don't have a whole lot of body in my hair, and I am a heavy head sweater. So I I mean I I hide all sorts of problems with that dry shampoo. I don't, you know, just because I worked out today doesn't mean I'm washing my hair today. The only reason I'm washing my hair is because it's been you know seven to ten days, or my kids sh got me totally wet in the pool, which you know does have honestly more often than not right now.
SPEAKER_01When I was up north, I was probably day three or four with no air conditioning.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, friends.
SPEAKER_01Without air conditioning, anyway. My hair was kind of more oilier than natural, and so what I did was I was using my fresh hair, and I just picked up where it gets oily on the sides of my head and sprayed it, let it sit, brushed it through. I didn't even use a hairdryer. My hair looked great, like I just washed it. Perfect. So that really went a long way. I and I get I also think that the um powder in the dry shampoos usually give you that thickness for fine hair.
SPEAKER_00I do too. I think it bulks up your hair shaft a little bit so that you look like you have a little bit more volume. If you know, even if it is a little bit oily, it still is gonna look a little bit more voluminous than flat, like it typically would without that. So I think that's a good, um, a good way to save your hair color in a lot of ways because you're just not washing as much and you're not having to do all the styling and the, you know, the drying that takes your hair color away from you.
SPEAKER_01Also, um, along with that, I am gonna go back to the color piece that we were just talking about with what happens if you're going out of town and you have a little bit of regrowth and you don't have time to get your hair colored, or maybe yours and your hairstylist schedule doesn't sync up. Some of the great ways that you can cover up color, or um, if you need to get a little more life out of your color, use the touch-up powders or sprays to help camouflage that regrowth where you see it.
SPEAKER_00I would much rather my clients use that than do a quick box at home.
SPEAKER_01I've never seen box color look pretty. I really haven't. It's hollow. You know what I mean? It's hollow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not as dimensional as salon color tends to be. I think that I honestly I just always get a little bit nervous because I'm like, oh shoot, I know what I've put on. I have no idea what you put on. And now I'm gonna go and like try to match somewhere in that realm to make it all make sense again, you know? And that I don't always just like, oh, please don't mess this up, Sarah Kate.
SPEAKER_01I would much rather have my client find a stylist, a touch-up salon. I think Madison Reed has some salons throughout the US that do just walk in color all the time. I'd rather somebody do that or find a hairstylist near where they're staying to get a touch-up and give them the formula than for them to go free willy style with a box of hair color. That's true. That's so true. Because boxed hair color isn't labeled like our color, our professional color is labeled in levels, which it doesn't translate to a consumer market. That's number one. Number two, I'm not really quite sure what the box color market uses as far as labeling for semi-permanent versus permanent. That's two. And three, it's very hard to apply your own color. So you're going to overlap your color, and that results in a darker color where the hair is already colored.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yes. And your stylist is used to that, and your stylist can see it all. And so we're only applying it the places that it needs to be applied with the proper product, you know. I mean, there's uh there are times when we take color all the way down the hair shaft, but it's a different kind of color. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Because you than what we're putting at the basement. The more you overlap that permanent color, it makes your hair drier, it makes more deposit, which results in darker color.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So that's why a lot of times if you're doing your hair color at home, you're like, My ends are so dark. My ends are so dark. Well, that's because you've run your color down them the entire time. You've been coloring your hair. That's then it's hard to get that out. It's hard to get that deposited hair color out of those ends, you know. Right.
SPEAKER_01And the longer you let it go on the ends, the more it deposits. So our ends are just tired. So it just sucks up all of the color, all of the things on the ends, and that's why they always feel the driest. That's the oldest hair on your head.
SPEAKER_00So would that be I like those little powders though. I think those get you some good, um, some good usage, you know, because they stay on until you wash them.
SPEAKER_01And they're not gonna run down your face.
SPEAKER_00No, they're gonna stay right on your scalp, which honestly, I've seen some people using them um when they're doing like updos and or like sleeker hairstyles and just kind of filling in their hairline.
SPEAKER_01I have clients fill in the top of their hair with them because it makes their hair look thicker because they're actually putting a little bit of shadowing on their scalp, which results in from the eye or from a distance, it looks like it's hair, not scalp color.
SPEAKER_00Right, not thin. Yeah, scalp color. Like you're uh just covering up the scalp color so it's not showing through your hair, so your hair doesn't look as thin, which I think is honestly a great idea. Um, so I think it can actually be used in a lot of different age groups, it's not just for you know, only covering up gray. I think it actually can be used, you know, in a number of different ways.
SPEAKER_01I think it's really and we have blonde ones too that that do work, and I did a little demo video on one of our old assistants um to show how it works. And also I prefer myself uh powder to a spray because the spray spits out sometimes. Gosh, what a mess. And it's a mess and it gets on your face and all of the things. So I would I feel like one time we did that. I had it on me and you called me out. Remember? Did I?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00No. I feel like I feel like we've used it at a wedding and it like got on already the. It did, you're not lying. I feel like it happened. I didn't make it up.
SPEAKER_01You didn't make that up and it was it was awful.
SPEAKER_00I about died. Because it's like it looks like little freckles. Exactly. You know, because it's like spit out of like an aerosol can or whatever the what. Um, which seems like it wouldn't be that bad, except for like if the person doesn't have freckles and then all of a sudden they have freckles all over their face, so like, why do I have freckles on my face? It's awful. What is that? And then you're trying to get it off one by one with your little q-tip, and it's not happening. Oh, and you're messing up the makeup under it. It it was honestly a nightmare. It was bad. Totally. I remember. Yeah. So, anyways, you only make that mistake once.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, most of the little powders come with a little spongy applicator, but that doesn't mean you have to use that. You can even get a good makeup brush and use that. Oh, I think that would be a really shadow brush.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Or even something a little bigger, you know, depending on how much surface area you really need to cover. I mean, you can do like a blush brush even and really get it in.
SPEAKER_01I even use my finger sometimes, you know. Resourceful, very resourceful. Yeah. So what are some other tips? Do you have anything else?
SPEAKER_00Hmm. I don't know that I do.
SPEAKER_01Trim your hair, stretch out your hair color, condition.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I always I here's some my other thing. I always really appreciate when my clients are like, hey, things are kind of tight. You know, I lost my job, my husband lost my job, but like I really am not ready to not come see you, you know. Like, I don't want to find somebody else. Like, what can we do? And like I appreciate that honesty because like I don't know what your bank account looks like. I don't know what your home life looks like. I mean, I know what your home life looks like to some extent, but I don't know what your bank account looks like, you know. So just talk with me about it and like let's figure out what our game plan is. Okay, whether that's every single time you're getting your base color, and then every couple times you're getting highlights in, um, or whether that's, you know, you just come and every four weeks, three, four weeks, you're doing just like your base color around your face and like down your part line. Um, like that's a service that I offer for, you know, a cheaper rate than all over base color. You know, you leave with your hair wet. I'm not doing any styling, you know, that kind of thing. Like so I offer that at a cheaper rate so that you know you can still cover your grays and feel like you, even if your life is maybe in a different spot than when you started coming to me. Um, so I feel like just be able to, you know, we care about our clients. We want you to feel your best. So we're always working to willing to work with you on how to achieve that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's a good point, because all of us have been in different situations at different points. This year has been a tough year in my life. So we've all been there and we're we could be going through it now. We just don't talk about it. So right.
SPEAKER_00So like I I think that I mean, our job is to make women feel beautiful, women and men, sorry, feel confident. And why wouldn't we want to be a part of that? I would much rather you say, like, hey, I gotta adjust my spending. I love seeing you, I need, but I gotta adjust what we're doing than ghost me. Exactly. And like, and then I'm like, what happened? You know, when all the when it's really nothing I did, it's just, you know, your circumstances change. Just talk to me about that. Like, you know, I'd much rather work with you than never see you again and wonder honestly, what the heck I did for forever.
SPEAKER_01That's right. Because it's a relationship that goes both ways. So if you're honest and just say, hey, I need to stretch my cuts out, my color out, what can we do? Can we touch it up in between? You still have to look good to get a job for an interview. And more than ever now, because I in my chair, I have had so many people between the age of 45 and 55 get laid off lately. That I mean, we're still in that range that we still have to work and we still have to look younger or about the same age as a millennial or a Gen Z with knowing that we're older, but we have to look the part, and you need to talk to your stylist so we know and we can work with you so you don't look tragic on an interview.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. Because there's literally zero shame in just saying, like, I mean, things have changed. I gotta, I gotta buckle down. That's right. You know, and like that's okay. We're we're here to help, we're here to help you feel like your best you. Like, so let us do that with you.
SPEAKER_01Let us get come up with a game plan for you. That's right. And don't another thing that I think people start to cheap out on as well is what they are using on their color, which you have to take into consideration. And I was just telling Sarah Kate prior to us getting on to record that yes, I'm like the shoemaker's child that has all leftover returned items at home for my hair products. That's what I use. And then when I'm actually using what I love, I'm like, yes. So I would I had been using the past week uh a product that's a professional product, but I have noticed my hair color fading faster. And I've only shampooed again three times. So in three washes, it's taken some of my color outright. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I don't think that you want to, you know, and like like we said, just talk with your stylist about it. Because at our salon, we try to keep several different price points so that there's something that's attainable for everybody's budget. Um, you know, whether it's you know, a bigger budget or a smaller budget, like we try to keep a range that everybody can can find the the products that work for them. Um so you know, talk with your stylist about that so that you can be using good hair care to protect your investment, basically. Um there's no sense in paying for hair color with us if you're just gonna wash it down the drain with you know, um drugstore shampoo and conditioner. That's right. Because that's what's gonna happen. That's right. I mean, it is so you might as well pay for your hair color to be good and look good and then protect it with products that support that.
SPEAKER_01And that holds true with a keratin treatment too. If you get keratin treatments, it's using a good because that's a lot of process to go through to wash it down the drain. So oh my gosh, yes. That's so true. So we hope that we gave you a few pointers on how to save time and money on your hair without giving up your glam. Um, we hope that we inspired you. I know, really, really think about adding a little bit of warmth into your 100% because it helps also camouflage some of that gray because it's more reflective. Think about like warmth as being a sunny day and cooler tones being like dusk or nighttime.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I hesitate to throw this out there, but I know that some of our clients have been putting their um pictures into AI and asking AI for recommendations on hair color. And I think that it can be positive and a negative because like computer-generated color is not feasible for people-generated color, you know. Like, I can't just give you exactly what AI spit out at you, and whatever AI spit out at you may or may not actually be feasible on your head. Okay, so like I hesitate to really say, like, oh, try it out. But I do think that there can be some positives of like what would this kind of look like? You can get a little general idea instead of um, but please don't come in saying, look at this AI picture of me, make me look exactly like this, because I'm gonna laugh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's not also it doesn't take into consideration the density of your hair. Right, right. Let's just be honest.
SPEAKER_00So sometimes, yes, yes, yes, yeah. So, you know, the amount of hair that's on your head. So sometimes I've had I've had one client for years. I don't know that she listens to the podcast, but I should tell her too. I've had her for years, and she is always showing me these TikToks of girls' hair, and it's like got lots of dimension, and you know, she likes the cool tones, which is fine. You know, it it's a it does fine on her. Um, and but she likes the cool tones, but she likes, you know, lots of dimension in there and very noticeable dimension. Well, that's all fine and good, except for she doesn't have enough hair to actually achieve that dimension. So, like I can be doing the placement of the foils, how it would give dimension, but there's only you know 20 hairs that I'm trying to make dimensional, and I just can't. By the time I get the highlights, highlights and low lights on there, it looks blended. So, I mean, that has been our uphill battle. The only time that I feel like we nailed it was when she had extensions and we did dimension with the extensions, and then it it it was what she wanted. Right, because there was more hair to work with. So AI is not gonna know what your density is, and it's not gonna be able to show you what dimensional blonde and and brown or whatever looks like on you because it doesn't know what kind of hair you have.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And uh even looking at regular images on your newsfeed, uh, whether whatever platform you're on, social platform, that is not authentic. True, a the hair color is different, b they have extensions nine times out of ten. Or a wig. I know or a wig.
SPEAKER_00This is true. This is true. So it's it is hard to to know. And I probably just best to just like chat with your stylist about what are your options, really. So option. But think about it. I think it's just think about it and just consider, you know, maybe the cool blonde you've been doing for you know 10 years.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it's time to give it a little reset. Try a toner, you know, even skip the color, try a toner.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's not permanent. You can just try. If you hate it, then you fix it. No big deal. Exactly. Exactly. So, anyways, give it a go.
SPEAKER_01Try it out, work with us know. Let us know. Comment and send us messages or images of what you've tried.
SPEAKER_00We'd love to hear from you guys. Thanks for joining us on Two Chairs, No Filter. We'll catch you next week. Bye. Bye.
