SPEAKER_01

Hi, and welcome to Two Chairs No Filter with Sarah Kate and Holly, where we bring you real life, real beauty, and unfiltered conversation.

SPEAKER_00

Good morning. Welcome to another episode of Two Chairs No Filter with Sarah Kate and Holly. Happy Monday morning, everybody. Happy Monday. I'm coming off of such a fun weekend. I secretly left Holly at the salon. It wasn't a secret. I just forgot to tell her. And so she was a little lonely, but I did miss her this weekend. But um we went away for a little family circus fun. And um I think I'm just fully embracing 90s summer. I think that millennial parents, elder millennial parents like I am, I think we're all kind of embracing 90 summer like we had. Um so I feel like I've been seeing that trending on TikTok. So we just What is 90 summer? We just dove right in. So it's basically just, you know, the freezy pops are always flowing. And, you know, you spend all day at the pool, and you know, there's kind of like not a whole lot of rules and schedule and this, that, and the other. We're just kind of going with the flow. Um, and the kids are just kind of wild now, and I'm I'm just kind of allowing it, you know, that's what we're doing. So we went to um Brian's farm this weekend to see his mom, and the kids spent half a day outside foraging for nature um to build a fort. Um, so they dug out in the dirt and built a fort for an hour and a half. Um, and actually it turned out really cool. So they're just kind of doing stuff that like we would have done in the 90s, like we just go outside and just like find stuff to do, you know?

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

That's good for them because they can use their imagination that way. Right. So we did a water balloon fight, um, and it was so fun. The water balloons were being pelted at us left and right. Um, but it was so fun. And um, afterwards they have to clean up all the water balloons, so um, that's not their favorite part. But then I always reward them with ice cream. So, you know, it's the good with the bad. Sounds fun. Yeah, we had a good time. What about you? What was your weekend like?

SPEAKER_01

My weekend, I can't think of a darn thing at the moment that went on. I'm trying to Oh, I had to help Nick work yesterday. Isn't that fun? Oh, good. I was doing I was doing serious blue collar work, and I can't say that I was as much of a help as he needed. Um, but we we did get part of the job done. Part of the job requires major machinery, and we did not have that.

SPEAKER_00

So you were manual labor when it was like 90, whatever the what degrees outside the yes, yes. Wow, that's commitment. I appreciate that. Good for you.

SPEAKER_01

It was hot, it was sunny, it was why I have a tan for no reason. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's fine. Oh, I also oh, on our way home yesterday, I made our kids go on a very hot walking tour of my college town. Um, and we had the dogs with us too, so it was quite the circus. But um, I mean, I definitely my two kids were miserable. Um, Brian's daughter was probably not as miserable, or at least she was really good at faking it, so I'm gonna take that as a win. Um but it was so fun to just kind of walk around town and just like see those places where I used to live and this, that, and the other. So it was sweet. And my kids had never been there before, so it was kind of fun to share that with them.

SPEAKER_01

Can I tell you a memory I have from probably a decade ago at least, and it makes me think of you every single time. Oh god. Back when we I know exactly what you say when we used to go to the movies on Thursday nights, the three of us. One of the movies we saw was Vacation, wasn't it called Vacation? The remake of um National Lampoons Vacation, and they go by the mom's college town to visit, and they were calling her Debbie Does Anything. Debbie does anything.

SPEAKER_00

And so you said mom like does this like obstacle course where yeah, the whole thing is like doing keg stands and chugging beers and this, that, and the other. I will not say I I was not that bad. I was not that bad. Mom, don't worry. I was not that bad.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but you remind but that reminds me because you said that would be how my kids that would be if I went back to college life and they'd be like, Mom, who are you?

SPEAKER_00

Because the mom like totally transforms into this totally alter ego person of like who she was when she was 21, because she was drinking 21, sorry. Um, anyways, I was not quite as bad as that, I will say, but um, I mean, I had my fair share of fun. I was in college, so I had my fair share of fun.

SPEAKER_01

That's okay. A funny small world coincidence, which happened to me all the time. If you know me, like there is definitely very few people separating us all as a whole. Absolutely. So I have been trying to clean stuff out, just get uh just purging because probably because I'm unsettled, because I know at work we'll be moving, and so all of that is just my nervous energy in play. So we had bought this dog feeder for Axel before he passed away, and I put it up. He used it once a couple of weeks before he died, and then um when we got Chloe, we brought it out, and she is way too messy to eat off this thing because it'd be ruined. Because she doesn't just go in for a dental drink, she goes in fully like face plants in her water everywhere, and same thing with her food. So we didn't we decided not to use it with her, and I got one at Home Goods that drained through. So I put it on Facebook Marketplace, not because I really need the 20 some odd dollars I'm gonna get for it, but just to get it out, and somebody could use it. So this, you know how marketplace works. You get all these inquiries, and then people are like, I'm interested, I'm interested. Well, this one girl's like, I'll take it. And um, she's like, Will you meet me? I'm like, I'm at work all day today. You know, it was Saturday. So come to find out. I tell her where she could get it on Tuesday because I said, I'm not driving and meeting you for less than 30 bucks, you know, because you want a deal. I'm not driving. Bingo, right? Not with gas at four whatever it is a gallon. No, I was paid $4.50 a gallon. No. So she is a bride we did. What the heck? Small world. Small world. Uh, she's like, great company, HT Salon. And I was like, okay. She goes, they did our wedding. Okay. We're only so big.

SPEAKER_00

Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

It's just the two of us that do weddings. And you know, my memory, I remember everybody. I really do. I may not remember your name, but I remember the story. So she I said, Give me your maiden name. And I knew her, you did her hair, and then we ended up doing one of the bridesmaids' hair from the wedding. Oh, for her wedding? Yeah, and she had the Day of the Dead theme wedding in the bamboo forest in the llamas. That was unique in the middle of Atlanta.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that was unique for sure. That was memorable.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was memorable. So that was just a funny side note.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, so today we're gonna play a little game. I decided we're gonna play a little game. We're gonna play Would You Rather? Um, some of this is a stylist edition, some of this is just like beauty edition, some of this is just, I think it's a funny question. I just want to know what Holly's answer is gonna be. So are we gonna flip the script on you? No. I mean, I can. Yes, I can answer. I can answer. Um, but you're gonna be answering first. Unless you say pass, you answer first.

SPEAKER_01

That's fine. I'll answer first, and then when we're done, I'll just come up with some on the fly. You on the fly?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, all right. I'm here for it. Okay, all right. Let's just start with a gentle, easy one, okay? Holly, would you rather accidentally give yourself bangs or and maybe I should say micro bangs? Accidentally give yourself micro bangs because you give yourself bangs like every other day. Okay, give yourself micro bangs or accidentally bleach your eyebrows.

SPEAKER_01

Micro bangs.

unknown

Micro bangs.

SPEAKER_01

I I don't like the bleached look of eyebrows, they look deathly ill to me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I all I already have bleached eyebrows uh because my hair is so light, and I color mine so that I look like I have eyebrows. So um mine would be accidentally bleach my eyebrows because I can fix that. Um I don't want to give myself bike more bangs because growing those out would be no thank you. They grow out so fast. Mine don't.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I and you can style them. You could find a certain way to style them, maybe, but um, I would definitely choose microbangs.

SPEAKER_00

I don't feel like I would look like an idiot with micro bangs.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I think I think you could carry them off, but you would just have to figure out how to style them.

SPEAKER_00

And I balance micro bangs when that when my hair was growing back in at different times. I guess I did. I've already done this. I don't want to do it again. Yeah, PTSD.

SPEAKER_01

But I'm just not with this whole bleached eyebrow look right now. I feel like I'm I'm not into that trend either, I will say. Um Ariana Grande. Oh I feel like she, I and don't quote me, I feel like it was her I had seen along the way with bleached out eyebrows, and she already is too thin. I don't think so. That's not a good look.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay, all right. Next up. Would you rather only be able to do men's cuts for a year or only do color corrections for a year? Men's cuts for a year. Oh god, me too. Predictability. Me too. I'm not a I'm not a fan of a color correction literally ever.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Well, the thing is with color correction is it's science, but not only is it science, it's like getting the hair to take the color molecules. And overprocessed hair will not keep taking color.

SPEAKER_00

Right. So, you know, yes, there is this predictability because you're like, okay, this is color theory. One plus one equals two. I just have to put one on here, and then I add one, and then I equal two, and it's gonna come out like this, except for it doesn't, because the porosity of the hair or the integrity of the hair, or you know, box versus salon or whatever the heck is already on there, like it's a mess.

SPEAKER_01

What about that color line we learned about along our journey of classes? And it was the class was talking about bio-ionic color, I believe, and I believe it's sold at a supplier that sells to the consumer, and it is you might not have been with me at this class, but it is basically a dye for fabrics.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, uh, yeah, it's ion color from Sally's ion color. It's ion color from Sally's, and it's a carpet dye.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So, like, that's a lot. Like, a carpet fiber is a lot different than a hair fiber.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So, like that's not gonna lift out. Yikes. Um, okay, so I would I would like to not do color corrections. I would also like to do men's haircuts, but I'll be honest, I a whole year of that would wear me out.

SPEAKER_01

It would wear me out, um, but it's predictable. But I would be pretty bored.

SPEAKER_00

I would also be bored with that. I like my men clients, but I like that we just like sandwich them in little places. I don't know that I could have men conversations all day long.

SPEAKER_01

No, I would definitely get a TV installed for the wall and let it play like ESP and all that. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Because I could tune that out.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. They would be engrossed and I could tune it out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And it wouldn't talk anything about politics, it wouldn't talk about the economy. It would only talk about sports. And that would be fine with me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I could do that. I think that's a solid um, I think somebody's already been on that business model, but it's a solid idea.

SPEAKER_01

Trust me, I'm not a sports girl that much. Like I know enough and I know players, but I'd definitely rather watch a show about sports players' wives.

SPEAKER_00

That's fair. That's fair. Yeah, I really would. Okay. Let's see, what's next? Would you rather always have perfect hair but terrible skin, or perfect skin but terrible hair?

SPEAKER_01

Perfect skin, terrible hair. Okay, give me a reasoning. You can't cover up a pie face, a face acne, and pits and wrinkles. No, I think if you have clear, beautiful skin, it makes up for the lack of hair.

SPEAKER_00

You know, that's a solid reason. I kind of like where your head's at on that one. I do. I think I agree.

SPEAKER_01

I'm big on skin and teeth, bigger than hair, actually.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and the thing is, is like you can fix bad hair a lot easier than you can fix bad skin.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

You know, like, okay, I know I have three hairs on my head, so if I want to put extensions in, I put extensions in. I can wear a wig, I can, you know, color it to make it look fuller and thicker. You can do all these things. Yeah, you can do all these things to camouflage, you know, thin or quote unquote bad hair or whatever. But bad skin, it takes a long time to like really figure out the root causes. Is it your diet? Is it your you know, your gut or your genetics, genetics, or you know, just hormones, and this is where you're at, like whatever. It takes so much more to figure out how to get better skin and gosh, the costs of it, you know, when you're talking, you're getting facials every you know, two, three weeks or whatever, and you know, the products and the try and this and the try and that. And I guess you could say the same thing about hair, you know, you try all these products and whatever, but I'd like to think that most products are a little cheaper than quality skincare products and facials and blah blah blah blah blah. But I could be wrong on that.

SPEAKER_01

But I think the I think the majority of skin comes down to genetics and then what we do. I do.

SPEAKER_00

I think a lot of it what comes out on our skin is from internal stuff, whether that's genetics or whether that's what you're putting in your body. Um, I think that a lot of times your skin is that cry for help, you know.

SPEAKER_01

And like it takes decades to show up in your skin. Usually like now in your 40s and 50s, you're starting to see sun damage you did in your 20s and 30s. Oh my gosh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Don't they say that most of the sun damage that you see now is like from burns when you were a kid? I'm like, oof.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, is that it? No, I'm not done yet. I'm not done yet. I was just gonna tell you this little side story. Um, so at night I, you know, just I wash my face, double cleanse my face, and then I put on this like really thick moisturizer. Um, and it is kind of greasy, but like, good, like I'm getting older. I need to, you know, lube this face up. Well, Brian's like forever laughing at me about this greasy face when I come to bed. And after the pool the other night, my chest always looks a little bit pink after the pool. Even if I've worn sunblock, it's not been that sunny, whatever. It always looks a little bit red. And he's like, Do you rub that stuff like down your chest too? I said, Don't worry, it's greasy everywhere. Like, but I mean he's right, like it, you know, that skin at your like you know, your top chest area, it does, it's it's thin, it needs a little bit of extra love and moisture. It's in your neck, yeah. Like I run it all the way down my neck, down my chest, everything. So, um, anyways, I'm just a little greasy by the time I go to bed. So there you go, everybody. Don't forget your earlobes. Oh, are you in those wrinkly earlobes? You know, my mom looked at me after she heard after she heard that episode, and she goes, Look at my wrinkle on my earlobe, Kate. And I'm like, what is wrong with you and Ollie?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm telling you, look at your earlobes, don't forget your earlobes, people. I see older ladies all day long, and I mean you do. Earlobes, earlobes.

SPEAKER_00

Holly's thing. Mine's back of the hands, back of the hands and top of the chest. Yeah, the back of the hands never tell a lie. Oh my gosh, right? Yep. Okay. This is not hair or skin related. Okay. Would you rather never drink coffee again or never have your favorite soda again?

SPEAKER_01

Uh never have my favorite soda.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_01

I'd rather have coffee. Okay. What's your favorite soda? I float between because I was raised by a tad drinking mom, I was raised on diet soda. So I never have. I'm not worried about a diet soda. Yeah, I mean, I was just raised on it. So I just I'll have a diet Dr. Pepper is really my favorite right now.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, me too. Me too. I love it. You do too. Oh my god, I love a diet Dr. Pepper. I love it. If it's later in the day, I can't, I can't have as much caffeine because because I can't. But if it's late enough in the day and I just really want a fountain drink, I'm gonna get a root beer. But generally, I'm a diet Dr. Pepper. I love it. I love it. Gosh, I'm actually torn on this question because I really do love a cold fountain drink, especially this time of year when it's so hot outside. Um I think what would I rather? I don't I can't even choose, honestly, because it's hot, so I don't want any coffee right now. But I think I'd rather have my diet Dr. Pepper forever. That's probably bad. Oh well. That's all right.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's we all have to die of something. Right. I'm just saying.

SPEAKER_00

Um okay, all right, here you go. This is hair related. Would you rather spend a week without dry shampoo or a week without your favorite styling tool?

SPEAKER_01

A week without dry shampoo. Because I can style my hair without dry shampoo and it won't look oily.

SPEAKER_00

I I think every person who sits in my chair will tell you I cannot live a week without dry shampoo. So I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with my dry shampoo. Gotta have it. Gotta have it. I I'll figure out how to style it without my styling tools, but I have to have a dry shampoo. I forgot my dry shampoo when we went to the farm this weekend. Excuse me. And um thankfully my whole entire head got soaked. Thank you for my children while we were having our water balloon fight, and then it just curled up kind of naturally. So I it was able to kind of camouflage it, and I did have a couple hot tools, so I used those and was able to kind of camouflage it, but I felt a really naked without my dry shampoo. Really naked.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? I washed my hair last Monday, and I didn't pull out my dry shampoo until Friday. Really? Uh-huh. That's why I said I think I could go. But I pull out my heated tool every every time. Yeah. And do something. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I washed my hair maybe. I don't know. I feel like I washed it kind of later. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday. It might have been Thursday. I think I washed my hair on Thursday and dried it. But I almost feel like Friday, my like fringe-ish kind of area where my little curtain-y pangs are looked greasy. I thought I must have gotten too much of my face. Oily face. Or did you wear a hat? I didn't wear a hat. I did not wear a hat. So I was like, why is the front looking greasy? So that was what I was really feeling like I needed the dry shampoo for, only to realize I didn't have the dry shampoo. So wom womp. Um Anyways, I would not be able to live without my dry shampoo. I hate to say it. Okay. All right. I like this one. Would you rather have to wear your worst hairstyle from high school for a month? Or your worst fashion trend from high school?

SPEAKER_01

Fashion. Okay. I'd rather wear my fashion. Okay. Because I could still do my permdao winged hairstyle for sure. But I I have really grown accustomed to wearing my hair flatter and without all the hairspray.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. All right. So you want to wear your worst fashion. What was your worst fashion choice? What would you be wearing for this month?

SPEAKER_01

I would have to cuff my jeans or cuff my pants because we would fold and cuff them.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Which is kind of in. That's okay. That's kind of in. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That I would be wearing an oversized maybe rugby shirt or an oversized sweatshirt.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, honestly, you'd look right in. I mean, that esprit shirt at the at the Costco. The esprit.

SPEAKER_01

Totally hitting Jen. Am I Gen Z or Gen X? No, Gen Z is now. Okay, so I'm Gen X?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

In between us is the Zenial, and then I'm millennial. Millennial. Millennial. I'm millennial. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

You're millennial and then it's Gen Z. Yes. Yes. So you're either on the older end or the younger end. And I think I'm kind of like I'm at the oldest end of millennial, I will tell you.

SPEAKER_00

I'm the elder millennial. And then there was like this little micro generation that was like 80 to like 84 or something like that. And they call those like the xenials. And so it's like part Gen X, like you, and then like part millennial, like me. So they're kind of on the cusp. And then there's you, the Gen X.

SPEAKER_01

So definitely, like, you know, like some of what's coming into play now, like into Costco and stuff, is definitely from earlier. Like I was on the younger end, right? Because I mean, I think my generation starts at like 19. I don't know, like maybe 65, 70. You had to have been born in 65 or 70 to be Gen Z. I'd have to look that up. But I'm like smack in the middle. And so therefore, I was a little young for some of the trends, but then I was a little like guest jeans, Z Cavaricie. Um, I could go on and on with those type of big brands and things like that. Um, and like the guys, Nick was all into like wearing those gotcha, the you know, the wide-legged pants. Oh, the Jinkos. Jinkos, Jinkos, that's it. Yeah, those things would have swallowed Nick alive. I know. He had never been caught dead in any of that then. I mean, now I think he would definitely choose hairstyle over clothing. Okay. He would.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I what would I choose? I would choose. I think I would rather choose my worst hairstyle from high school. Because I think I would be better equipped at styling it now. So I would choose that. Um my worst hairstyle from high school was probably um probably the Rachel haircut.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I remember doing those when I got out of beauty school.

SPEAKER_00

It would either be that or like that really, really steep side bang that we did. That was very popular. The really steep side bang was really in. So I could kind of I could go either way with those, and I feel like I could probably style them a little bit better now. So that's why I would rather do that. I wouldn't want to do my worst fashion trend from high school because in high school, the um when I was going through it was the era of the low rise jeans. Oh, that was the worst. And no part of me wants to have my post two children mom body in low rise jeans ever again.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, you look at early 2000s, late 90s, like the zipper was literally one inch long, like my finger.

SPEAKER_00

Like it was it was negative inches long. Like I would never want to go back to a low rise jean ever, ever, ever, ever again. Like I will wear my mid to high rise jeans until you pry them from my cold dead body. Yeah, I am a mom and I wear them. But to be fair, God, I was relentless making fun of my mom with those low rise jeans or those mom rise jeans, the mom jeans when I was a teenager. I was like, mom with these mom jeans. Okay, now she's like cooler and wears a mid-rise, and I'm like, uh-uh, I'm in the mom jeans.

SPEAKER_01

Which is funny because I think the trend with the parting of the hair came because like this generation was raised by those of us that had a side part because God forbid us wear a middle part like our mom grew up with in the 70s, right? Or in the 60s. So I feel like it just swings back and forth generations and people getting on, I don't want a side part anymore. Well, not everybody's hair can part in the middle for one. Secondly, it's very severe, and you know, it's right down the middle. So if you have an oblong face and you want your face to look longer like a mule, part your hair in the middle. Just saying. Don't wear bangs and part your hair in the middle. It's not poly. It's not forgiving, you know. I'm just saying. But then some people can wear it and look amazing. Oh, absolutely. Like my friend Rhonda, she could wear her center part. But she didn't have a long face either. Nope. She didn't have a long face, she was more of a round face. Mm-hmm. Totally. What do you have next?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, let's see. Next.

SPEAKER_01

These are unrehearsed, too. These are just on the fly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm representing. I've just come up with these this morning. So here you go. Um, would you rather be 30 minutes early to everything or 30 minutes late to everything?

SPEAKER_01

30 minutes early.

SPEAKER_00

Easy. Same.

SPEAKER_01

The stress of being late is so overwhelming to me, even every day at the salon working client to client, like it stresses me beyond belief.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I don't like anybody to have to wait for me. I hate for people to have to wait for me. Respect people's time. Yeah, absolutely. I do not like people to wait for me, and so therefore, I always want to be early on time at the very latest. Like, I don't I don't like people to wait for me, so I don't want to be late. And I I do think that it is a respect of people's time and just shows people that like I see you, I respect you, I respect your career, your business, whatever, and to show that I am I'm there on time.

SPEAKER_01

Agreed. Agreed.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, let's see. Okay, this doesn't this doesn't this doesn't really doesn't feel that bad, okay? Would you rather accidentally send a text about someone to that person or accidentally post an unfiltered selfie to your story?

SPEAKER_01

Um I'm I'm okay with either because I don't filter my photos. I don't filter my photos either. And you know what? I learned very early that if you're gonna say something about somebody, you just say it to their face.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Anything that you would be willing to text or talk to somebody else about, you need to be willing to say that exact thing to their face.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because I think a lot of it, and I was telling somebody this last week, like our salon, we really don't have drama. Does that mean that we don't get flustered like any other family? Yeah, we could get fluster frustrated with people, but I don't think it's a matter of being catty or wanting to change that individual. I think it's a matter of just like owning our strengths and weaknesses.

SPEAKER_00

Agreed. Agreed. Because we do operate in different ways and we just appreciate those ways about each other. Like, I mean, there's sometimes when I like go in the back and there's you know, bleach splattered, you know, bleach powder splattered all over the countertop, and I know that she've been in there making color and and mixing it up, and I'm just like, this is just who Holly is, and all I do is just wipe down the counter. It doesn't take me anything to like just do that little thing, and I'm not mad about it, I'm not mad at you, and I'm not like gosh, Holly's the worst person on the planet because she leaves a little bit of bleach powder behind when she's stirring her pow her bleach up. Like, it's no big deal. Like, I know that's who Holly is, and I would tell her to her face, Holly, you messy back here, and I do say that.

SPEAKER_01

Girl, I am, I am. I'm messy on the back end, yeah, but the the hair she puts out, worth it, you know?

SPEAKER_00

So it is what it is, it comes with the territory. Yep, doesn't bother me, and we do just appreciate each other for who we are, and so there's no reason to to get bent out of shape about it because and the stuff I would I would say that to your face. If I'm not willing to say, if I'm willing to say it behind your back, I better be willing to say it to your face. 100%. Otherwise, don't say it, right? Keep that to your keep it to yourself, even if it is honest, keep it to yourself. That's right. Okay, let's see. This is not hair related. Would you rather only be able to listen to one artist for the rest of the year or only watch one TV series on repeat?

SPEAKER_01

Would I rather do which? Um, you know, I would say the one TV series because music is very much whatever I'm feeling that day. And I like all different kinds of music. So whatever I'm feeling that day, and that's what frustrates me with algorithms, because I want to hear different stuff, and a lot of times the algorithm just keeps feeding you the same old BS that you gravitate, like my algorithm sounds very salon-ish because it's safe, right?

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Whereas it's not giving me out of the, you know, like good finds on artist or new music that would not vibe in the salon. Right.

SPEAKER_00

So I think I would rather I would rather do the TV series on repeat. Um, because I could skip the episodes I don't really like. Um, it can be just be kind of background noise, but I'm with you. I think that music um is about how I'm feeling that day. And so um I want to listen to stuff that's gonna lift me up if I'm sad, or uh make me like feel okay in my sadness, or calm me down when I'm overstimulated, or um, you know, help put me to sleep or what just whatever it is. I want to be able to listen to different stuff, and so I would rather be able to listen to different things than only listen to one artist, and then if I didn't want to listen to the artist, I just would turn it off and have silence. Like I the silence I would not like. So I would like to have the TV series on repeat. I don't know what TV series I would like to watch on repeat. I know, I do, I do, I know.

SPEAKER_01

What would that be?

SPEAKER_00

It's Law and Order SVU, like a true sociopath. It would be Law and Order SVU because I can be entertained by it, but it can also put me to sleep.

SPEAKER_01

Good, that's valid. On that tip, you should really watch if you have HBO Max, one of the better uh doc series or documentaries I saw was Mariska Harditase on her mom. Jane. Oh, I would like to watch that. I would like to watch it. It was so good because really Jane was, I didn't know much about her because she was before her time. And so, do you realize that Mariska was in the backseat when her mom died? Oh, I didn't know that. Wow, her she was in the backseat with her other siblings. So and all the other siblings alive?

SPEAKER_00

All the siblings are alive, just her mom died. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

It is such a great story. I was just fascinated. And you'll appreciate her even more, but you'll also appreciate what her mom had to go through to get where she was.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I'll put it on my list. I have lots of free time this week, so with um just by myself and the dogs. So I'm gonna actually watch that this week. Okay, next up. Would you rather have unlimited free massages or unlimited free facials? Facials. Yeah. Okay. Okay, I would be free massages. I would be free massages. That is so relaxing to me. And I like don't realize how much my body is sore and hurts until I have a massage. True. Even if it's just like the last three minutes of my nails getting done when the when my manicurist like massages my hands and arms, I'm like, oh my gosh, I could just melt. Or like when I get my feet done and that massage, I'm like, holy cow, my feet are so sore all the time. Like, and I don't even realize it until someone massages me.

SPEAKER_01

That's true. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

So I would be massages for sure. I don't necessarily have time for that, but I would like it. Yeah. I go back to the skin care, the skin. But um, I I like a facial, but I sure do hate when a facialist wants to talk to me. I don't want a massage. I don't want a massage therapist to talk to me, but I feel like a lot less massage therapists talk to me than facialists talk to me. Please don't tell me. I don't care. Whatever's happening up there, whatever you're doing, I don't care. And I'm probably aware of already. Also, yeah, like I already am aware that my skin pulls red and you know, tends towards looking like a rosacea. Already, duh, of course. I'm a redhead. I already know that. I don't want to talk about it. Just do what you're gonna do. Put your what you're gonna put on there and relax me, lady. So, no, I don't want to have a conversation. I feel like a lot more facialists want to have a conversation, and I'm not interested in that. Right. Exactly. Is that okay? Let's see. Would you rather have to narrate everything you're doing out loud all day or sing everything you say?

SPEAKER_01

Narrate because I'm a terrible singer. I love to sing, but disclaimer, I am not a good singer.

SPEAKER_00

Could you imagine us walking around the salon all day just narrating our lives? Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

We would be like that Jim Carrey movie.

SPEAKER_02

Which one? Liar liar.

SPEAKER_01

Like liar, liar. He could not tell a lie and everything he was thinking. Was it everything he was thinking was out loud? Was that it?

SPEAKER_00

I feel like he just like everybody was lying all the time, and he was like, that's a lie. That's a lie. Like I feel like he just called out everybody online. It's been a while since I've seen that movie, so don't quote me on that. But but I feel like, you know, oh yeah, I've I've never, you know, farted in public, and he's like, that's a lie, or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. See, they just need to go back to making funny movies simple like that. Nobody wants to go spend a half a day in a theater to see the Odyssey. Sorry. I it's like four and a half four plus hours. I can't. Do they have an intermission? I don't think so. But they used to, okay, somebody said the other day on the radio that I think there was an intermi I know there's an intermission in um oh shoot, Scarlet O'Hara movie. Oh, Gone with the Wind. Gone with the Wind. And it was like not as long as the Odyssey.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's not that's not on my list. I'm gonna be honest. That's not on my list.

SPEAKER_01

Never never. Okay. I'd rather jump off a bridge than to tell me to go sit in a theater for four. I'd rather give my shot at an Iron Man. There was an Iron Man in my hometown yesterday, and they kicked off swimming in the river. I walk along, and I saw a sturgeon jumping in and out of that water, and Osprey flying overhead trying to get the sturgeon. Sturgeons look them up. They're huge fish, huge. Because, like at first, when I was crossing over the bridge and I was like, holy cow, what was that huge fish, Brock? And he's like, Oh, that's a sturgeon. They jump like that all the time. So they'd probably be the size of a small shark. I don't know if they're harmful or not, but sign me up for an Iron Man over seeing the Odyssey all day. And I'll swim in a river with sturgeon before I go see that movie.

SPEAKER_00

You know, my dad always said that the swimming is the worst part. My dad's a navy diver, okay? So, like swimming is not an issue for him. He says the swimming is the worst part of an Iron Man because everyone is just like absolute chaos. And it's like people are, you know, like you're trying to swim and like get your air, but it's so choppy that you're like breathing in water. So people are choking, they feel like they're drowning, then they start holding on to other people around them because they feel like they're drowning. Yeah. Awful. Yeah. So my dad was always like, I just stayed at the back. I did my swim, ran, you know, swam my own. Yeah, it's just slow and steady. Did that, and he was like, I made up any time I needed to make up on the bike or the run or whatever. But he was like, the swim is the worst part. And I believe that. Like, and I think about the places where my dad did his, um, did his triathlons, and he would do them, oh hey Chloe. Um, so he would do his triathlons where they swam in the Gulf of Mexico, like he would do them in Panama City Beach, and so he would swim in the Gulf of Mexico, um, where you already think it's like it's choppy, it's wavy, it's all the that stuff already. So, like that would be on top of other people churning up the water and choking and trying to drown you. So that's a side note that doesn't have anything to do with hair and beauty, but there you go. And I wonder if they start with the swim in a man.

SPEAKER_01

They do start with the swim. Yeah, swim, bike, run.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I'm pretty sure is what it is. Yeah, that would make sense. Yeah, because that would be the most exhausting part.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think you get right out and you get on your bike and then you I don't know, ditch your bike. I don't know where you put that, and then you run the rest of it. Um, I would not like to be signed up for any triathlon, period. So or the Odyssey. Um I would like to narrate my whole day. That's the one we're on, right? Narrate, I would like to narrate my whole day for you. Uh okay, let's see. Okay, this one makes me laugh, actually. And I'm I really want to know what you have to say to this. Would you rather know exactly what every client is thinking during their appointment or never know if they actually loved their hair?

SPEAKER_01

I'd rather like to know what they're thinking the whole appointment, because there's so many things that I'm sure that they're scared about. Don't you think? Oh especially newer clients.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But like that would be it might not be even hair related. Like you might just be like hearing their inner monologue. Yeah, I'm okay with that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That sounds really overstimulating. Oh, it probably would be. That would be really overstimulating. I could probably tune it out. You can tune out a lot.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, let's see. I ough I mean, I feel like it would be interesting to hear what everybody was thinking. Um, but I think yeah, I I think I should go with that. I think I would like to Hear what they're thinking. Mostly because it would be interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and I also think that as a stylist, when you have that uncertainty about a client liking or disliking what you do for them, you're always like, I wonder why they keep coming back to me. Because I don't really feel as though I make them happy. So we question our skill.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. That's true. And I that would eat me alive. You're right. That would keep me up at night and eat my soul alive. You're right. Okay. All right, fair. Okay, last one. Last one for today.

SPEAKER_01

Would you rather and I'm gonna ask you one on the cuff one. Okay. Off the cuff. Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Um, okay, would you rather go back and relive one day from high school or fast forward and see one random day 20 years in the future? High school. I think it'd be fun. Yeah? Going back. I would I would do the opposite. I would like to go 20 years in the future.

SPEAKER_01

See what it's like. I mean, both would be fun, but I I think I think sometimes when we overthink our future too much, it makes us anxious. It's paralyzing. Yeah. So I'm afraid that if I had one day in my future that it would you would stop living for now. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. I can see that. I can say I just think like it would be so interesting. I just think it would be so interesting. It would be what was different and and what was the same. And you know, but you but I mean back to the future style, it would probably mess up the space-time continuum and like who knows, right?

SPEAKER_01

Which that gets into like kind of what that movie obsession is about. It's kind of like altering fate. I'm not watching that. No, but in general, if I could go back to a simpler time, there's just something I love about that. And maybe that's why I've been gravitating towards watching older shows at bedtime. Um, I've been watching like 90210 in Melrose Place at bedtime. I love that. I know it's just so simple, right? Like you didn't feel like you had to be literally on all the time because I feel like with the pressure of our phones and notifications, that's why I have really all my notifications for social media turned off on my phone and everything.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's kind of a lot of where the whole 90s summer bit is coming from, too. You know, it's just like let's just be simpler, let's just enjoy time together and not stress about having it overly planned out and just like just like let's not stress.

SPEAKER_01

Simple, keep simple and I love the fact that Sean's generation uh they're turning to like granny activities where Mahjong is having a moment and um just getting back to basics.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, I'm really into honestly all of the granny hobbies. I mean, Deb's over there puzzling, we're all over here planting random things and being like, look what's growing. I don't know what it is, but look.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's fun, it's fun, and it it just gets you doing something creative and it gives your brain a break.

SPEAKER_00

So okay, all right. I do I can appreciate going back in time and just appreciating simpler times. Um, I just think I'd be so curious as to the future. So all right, what's mine? What's mine? Would I rather?

SPEAKER_01

I'm not gonna do would you rather? I'm gonna do what would be your walkout song if you had to choose one. Ooh. What? Like if you're a baseball player, a football player. We're gonna say baseball player. What would be your walkout song?

SPEAKER_00

Fat Bottom Girls by Queen.

SPEAKER_01

Love it. That's a great one. That would be mine. All right, what's yours? Okay, don't laugh. I will. I mean, probably one of the probably one of the funniest things that nobody would guess about me is how much I love rap music. I love rap music. People would not know that about you, but you totally wouldn't love it. It would be Rick Ross, boss. I love it. I love it, I love it. And I'd be kicking that bass. I love it. It's so fun. I love it. I know, I know. Well, maybe we'll do this in reverse on a future episode, and I won't tell Sarah Kate the questions.

SPEAKER_00

So I hope you guys enjoyed our episode of Two Chairs, no filter today. Um, I certainly did. I thought that today was too funny. It was fun.
