Welcome to The Conversation Club aka the place where we’re going to talk about business, life, mindset, money, freedom, community and yes… a little bit of woo-woo, too.

If you’re here, hi. I’m Kieryn Wang, an email marketer by trade and someone who is passionate about building a business that supports your life - NOT the other way around.

This first episode is all about me, my views on business and life and why I am starting this podcast. It's a little chaotic, very honest, and basically me yapping (so yes, I’m currently calling you all the yappers — open to feedback though).

I wanted a space that felt bigger than my Instagram stories (where those who know, know I LOVE to rant and rave). A space where I could actually finish a thought. Where we can go deeper - not just into marketing (although yes, we’ll talk about email marketing quite a bit), but into the real stuff, too:

  • building a business
  • unlearning scarcity
  • navigating life transitions
  • and figuring out what freedom actually looks like for you

Because this isn’t just a business podcast.

This is a life podcast that includes business.

Let’s make this a conversation:

This isn’t me talking at you, it’s The Conversation Club for a reason!

Tell me:

  • What do you want to hear about?
  • What are you working through right now?
  • What do you actually want your life and business to look like?

DM me, email me, comment on clips and on Youtube. I want to hear it all.

See you next week, Yappers! P.S. - it's going to be a spicy one.

SPEAKER_00

Hello, hello. Kieran Wong here. Welcome to the Conversation Club. I am so excited, a little nervous. This is the first time I am recording my own podcast with video and audio. So bear with me as I sort of get used to, get the hang of this. But welcome, welcome to the first episode of our lovely little podcast. I'm gonna get into in just a second a little bit more about me, but I just want to know what do we think the name of our listeners should be? I think I'm kind of leaning towards the yappers because this is the conversation club, and you know me, I love to yap. That's kind of what we're here to do. But if you have any thoughts, please, please let me know. DM me, email me, put it in the comments. I would like to know what you think our sort of community name should be. But for now, I'm gonna call you the yappers. So hello, yappers, welcome. What is this podcast about? So if you don't know, I, Kieran, am an email marketer by trade, and I really wanted to share a little bit more about my knowledge with email marketing and just marketing in general, but I don't think I can do sort of 52 episodes a year on email marketing alone. And if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I'm pretty vocal and outspoken about a lot of things. And as much as I love Instagram stories for that purpose, sometimes I want a little bit more long form. Sometimes I want to get into more of the topics in depth. So that's why the Conversation Club was created. What are we gonna do here? We're gonna talk a little bit about marketing. We're gonna talk about how to use marketing and utilize it for your business, especially email. We're gonna talk a little bit about the lessons I've learned in business. I've been doing this for over eight years now. And yeah, I wanna I wanna share a little bit more about how I got here. We're also gonna talk about, you know, some of the tools that I like to use in my daily life. So, not just business and systems. This isn't a business only podcast. There will be things that I talk about in regards to business, but I also want to talk about the things I do in my life and and what my goals are and what I'm trying to do. And I want to connect with you all. So we're gonna talk about some of that business stuff, the system stuff, but I want to get into the mindset. I want to get into emotional regulation, wellness, some of the spiritual woo-woo stuff. If you're woo-woo friendly, this will be a great place for you as well. But I also really want to talk about some of the people and talk to some of the people that have helped me to get to where I am today. And that can be people who have helped me with my financial education, people who have helped with my mental health and my emotional health, the coaches that I've worked with, I've worked with a lot in the last year, especially, but just in general. Yeah, so I I want to talk about how they've helped me. I want to bring them on to talk to you. And I really just want to talk about living life, and that includes business, and that includes friendships, that includes all the relationships, that includes the day ins, day outs, routines, habits, everything. So, so we're gonna get into a little bit of all of it, but in order to do that, I think you guys need to get to know me a little bit better. This is episode one after all. And for those of you that don't know, hello, I'm Kieran again. I started my business, my first business, almost consulting, over eight years ago in March of 2018, which is crazy to say that it was eight years ago. Because as we all know, the pandemic has really distorted our perception of time. But yeah, I started my first business in 2018 because I was working in a really, really toxic environment. I won't go too much into the details because they might be able to listen to this. Maybe someday I'll share the full story. But it was a really toxic work environment, and I just I didn't want to be working with people that didn't align with my values that I didn't actually like working with. So I quit and I was like, I'm gonna start my own business, I'm gonna do this for myself. And it was very scary, but here we are eight years later. And if I were to look back eight years ago and talk a little bit about, you know, what it is that brought me here, I first would say, just go do it. If if you're thinking about starting a business, just go out and do it. I know it's scary. Many things in life are, but it it's it's been so incredibly rewarding. So to give you a little bit of background, I started my business in the cannabis industry, actually. I first right when I got out of school, this is around 2015, 2016, I immediately started working in the cannabis industry. That was that was the company that I referenced earlier. That's the space that they were in. And so when I started my business, I decided, okay, you know what? I have this amazing network of brands, of people we've collaborated with. And I really wanted to continue to support those people that were already in my network. So I kind of unintentionally stumbled into being more of a cannabis marketing business. It has been so much fun working in this space and so interesting working with highly regulated businesses because there are so many things that you can and can't do and say, and how you can represent products and what you can talk about, and all of those things. So I actually got really good at thinking outside the box, getting creative. And that's really where my niche in the almost consulting side of things, which is my first business, started. Now I actually have started a second business, and I'll go into that in just a second. But I want to, you know, I'm kind of like jumping all over the place a little bit. I do have undiagnosed ADHD, so be prepared for that. But jumping back to 2018, I was doing quarterly events, I was, you know, building my network. I was like networking off the charts in Seattle, and Seattle is where I'm originally from. And then the pandemic hit and things got kind of scary, right? I think we can all remember. I also really just learned a lot from from the scarcity and the loss and and the grief in that time. But I had learned from back in 2018 when I kind of first started my business. I lost this like anchor client that I had. And it was the one anchor client that I had. And what I mean by anchor client is like a big, a big ticket, the big moneymaker, my main source of income essentially. And I and I had lost it in 2018. I had no money coming in. And this was around like November, December. So by the time January 2019 arrived, I was really ready to get a little bit more into my money. And that's kind of where my personal finance journey started was at the beginning of 2019. And I am super excited to share all of that. I probably will do a separate episode on it. But that kind of forced me to change my mindset a little bit in terms of scarcity, in terms of just being able to handle situations like that in business, right? Because that was for my first year, not even my first full year into business, and that happened. Um, so by the time 2020 rolled around and people were shoring up their budgets and getting rid of contractors and all of those things, I had kind of worked a little bit on my personal finance. I had built an emergency fund. I had really started to think about, you know, the scarcity mindset that I had and losing clients. And I'm not saying I'm like really amazing at it now, but definitely a huge improvement from pre-pandemic. But yeah, I I actually ended up hitting my first six figures in 2022. So that's what, like about four years into business, and that was really, really exciting. It also really challenged my scarcity mindset as well. I was thinking very abundantly, I was spending, spending, and and you know, there were some mistakes in that as well. But I really was like, this isn't gonna happen again. The mistake that I made in 2018 isn't gonna happen again. And so I hit my six figures in 2022 and I actually launched into my three most prosperous years I've I've ever had in this business from 2022 to 2025. And it was awesome, it was great. But around I want to say 2024, I know I'm throwing a bunch of years at all of you, so forgive me. I'm literally just trying to remember all the things that that happened because as we know, pandemic years are a little bit blurry and they kind of all meld together, and and I know I'm confusing them. But I had another scare where I was like, oh, I might lose a client. And that actually launched me into this really wonderful, amazing group coaching program. I will talk about them probably many, many times on this podcast. Uh, the bucketless bombshells, my amazing business coaches. I am currently in their Scale with Purpose program. I've been in it for a year and a half. I will probably be in it for many, many years to come. But it actually showed me a lot about the power of learning with others. So I used to be like really, really terrified of not terrified, but I think I was resistant to group coaching and I wanted one-on-one because I was like, this is the best bang for my buck. I'm getting the most. I'm literally getting one-on-one attention with my coach. And actually, small group coaching changed my life. It it made me realize that learning with other people, having this community to support you, and also ask questions that you weren't asking that you weren't thinking of, and you're still learning from other people when they're getting coached as well. It's been really, really transformative for me. I also will probably do an episode on how group coaching changed my life. It helped me in my dance practice too. I'll talk a little bit about that when when we get into a little bit more of my personal life. But in regards to business, yeah, group coaching truly transformed things for me. And that we started that in what 2024? And so, yeah, here we are in 2026. I have been working with these amazing coaches, Shay and Cassie. Shout out to you, love you both so much. And they helped me launch a second business, they helped me launch a membership, they helped me build a team with my PR team that I'm working with, with my operations assistant that I hired back in February. Shout out to you, Lizzie, love you so much. And uh things have just been going in a very expansive way, I guess is the best way I can put it. I am so excited for all that's to come. I'm really excited for this podcast. And I can't wait to keep sharing a little bit more about me and learning a little bit more about all of you. And yeah, just getting into more of this like yappy yappy energy. So that's a little bit about my business, my business life, a little bit about my personal life. I don't actually, interestingly enough, I do use Instagram sort of as a diary, probably to my detriment, but I could work that out in therapy. But if you know me from Instagram, you know that I actually share quite a bit about my daily life. But the thing is, is I don't think I share publicly much about sort of my life before business and and my life before today. So as you can probably tell, I have always been pretty loud and pretty vocal ever since I was a kid. I actually used to be a lot worse. I tell people that all the time. I used to be so much worse than I am now. I've toned down quite a bit in terms of my anger and my frustration, all that stuff. So if you think that I am loud and vocal now, you should have seen me. Like truly, you should have seen me in high school and college. It was so much worse. But that's the therapy is for, right? That's it's to heal, it's to learn how to emotionally regulate and you know, respond rather than react. Yada yada yada. But yeah, so so I've always been, I actually was told as a kid because I was so loud and vocal that I should go into PR as an adult because it's quote unquote bragging for money, and I was pretty good at that. Like apparently to a bunch of adults when I was, I want to say, like maybe definitely under 10 years old. I think I was like nine, eight or nine when people started telling me that I should go into PR as an adult, which is wild to say to a child. I think, you know, as a euphemism for girl, you are so loud, you talk so much. I mean, that's why we're here, Conversation Club, yep, yep, yep. That was always a note in all of my report cards. Like, she's a great student, but she could talk less in class. My gym coaches will also attest to that here at my gym in Lisbon. But yeah, so from a young age, I I've loved dancing, I've loved music. I played, you know, in classic Chinese form, uh, played piano and violin as a kid. I also played a little clarinet in there as well. But my family, my mom's side is super musically inclined, and my dad is is and his side is a little bit more like dance performance art inclined. And so I kind of got a little bit of both. I did, and this is gonna go in my memoir someday. I won't get into all the details, but I've been raising myself since I was 14 years old. So I'm sure it'll explain a lot of why I am how I am and who I am. But yeah, I I've been I've been an adult for a lot longer than I preferred to. I mean, I think everyone realizes as adults that we all took childhood for granted. Like that shit was great. I would give almost anything to have someone just like cart me around in a stroller now and prepare my meals for me and for me not to worry about bills and all the shit that adulthood brings. But yeah, so I got through school, da-da-da-da-da. Fast forward to you know, graduating college, getting my job, starting my business. How did I how did we get here? I think you heard me mention I'm from Seattle originally, and I think you also heard me mention that I am in Lisbon now. So I moved to Portugal in June of 2025, so a almost 10 months ago, and I moved here with my cat, Jeremy. You will hear about Jeremy. You might even see Jeremy, he loves attention, and so he probably will be like creeping in here. And if you're watching this on video, you'll probably see him. Please, please give Jeremy, show Jeremy all the love. He loves the attention, so so please do that. But yeah, I moved here in June with my cat, and we live in Lisbon now, which is still a little wild to say out loud and to hear. But people ask me all the time, like, why did you choose Lisbon? And frankly, it was one of the few places that I didn't not like. I had my amazing nail artist in in Seattle. When I was telling her, I was like, oh, I'm trying to decide like where to live. And she was like, I feel like it'd probably be easier to write down all the places you do like versus all the places you don't like, because your girl does not like a lot of places. She is very, very particular, which you will get to know as you continue to listen to this podcast. But I I love Lisbon. I loved Lisbon when I came to visit, and it she was right. It was one of the few places that I did like in this world that wasn't the United States. A lot of people asked me, like, oh, did you move because of the election? And I'm like, well, the timing doesn't hurt. It wasn't because of the election. I actually have wanted to live abroad my whole life. It was something that I I've always wanted to do, and I didn't know exactly where. I thought maybe in Asia, but that's a little too close to my family for my comfort. And so I I love Europe. I I considered, you know, South America as well, and even Australia, but there were too many things in those places that I don't super love, aka bugs, aka things that will bite me and try to kill me. So I didn't choose those places, and I've always really loved Europe. I've I've wanted to live here for a long time. I studied abroad here when I was in school in Copenhagen, and that was quite an adventure. I'll get into that some other time as well. But yeah, wanted to live abroad my whole life. This was one of the best places to do that. It kind of was between Spain and Portugal. And sorry, sorry to my Spanish listeners. I don't really like Spain. So I chose Portugal, and here we are. That process took years. It it took it took a long time. I was gonna move in 2019. Obviously, the pandemic happened, and then fear and scarcity and all that came in, and and it took me until 2024 to like start taking action on it, where I had to sell our childhood home. I chose to, and I still will never shut up about the fact. I feel like people who are listening who have heard this story before are gonna be like, oh my gosh, she's gonna tell this again. But basically, I sold my family's home in Seattle, and it closed on the same day that my Portuguese visa got approved. Like the same day it got approved, both of them. Like it was it was a sign from the universe that this was the right move for me. And I've I've loved it. The the goal of this, not just this podcast, but just me in life is is having freedom, is for all of us to have freedom to do whatever it is that we want to do each day. I want to be able to drop everything and just go surfing. Or a friend calls me in need and wants to have a long lunch. Let's go do that. That is what I came here for, and that's what we're doing here. A little bit more about me, some fun, fun little tidbits. I do, I love to hike. That's something I really miss here. That's something growing up I did a lot in Seattle. There aren't as many readily accessible trails here that I like and enjoy and am searching for in Lisbon, but we're working on that. I also love to snowboard. I've been snowboarding since I was I actually started skiing when I was a kid. No, again, no offense to my skiers, but I got really bored of it really fast. And so I was like, I'm gonna try snowboarding. And this was around when I was I wanna say like 10, 9 or 10 years old, is when I switched over to to snowboarding, and I've loved it ever since. I did take like about a 12-year break between when when I was 14 and 2021, so whenever the the math is on that, around 26. So I did have to take a break on that, but I'm back into it, and I'm super excited to get into the slopes here in Europe. I haven't explored that many slopes in in the states, but mostly in Washington, like everything in Washington, and I've gone up to BC, I've gone to Utah, but I'm excited to like get into the Alps here in Europe and go to the Dolomites and just explore all of that new terrain. I also love dancing. I think I mentioned that earlier. I've been dancing since I've classically trained in ballet as well as Chinese folk dance. So I really, really this is one of my favorite things to do in life. And shout out to my dance teacher in Seattle, Kristen Grace. Love you so much. She actually is also someone who has really helped me in my group coaching journey because I was taking private lessons with her and she was like, you should take some classes with other people. So it's not just you. Because there were so many days that I was putting too much pressure on myself for not improving and not da-da-da-da-da. So yeah, we'll talk about that eldest daughter, eldest daughter, eldest immigrant daughter, let me add. Perfectionism, parentification, all that. We will get into all of that here. Don't worry, I promise you. But yeah, she, Kristen Grace, she has helped me so much in terms of my movement and my vocabulary. I used to be so afraid of freestyling. I still kind of am, but she really, you know, changed my mindset on that, helped me reframe it as sort of an exploration of movement. She calls it movement exploration versus freestyling, which is, you know, feels so much more pressure when it's called that. And yeah, so I've haven't really found a studio here in Lisbon yet, but we we will we will do that soon. When we talk about my astrology as well, I'm a Scorpio. I have seven, I think seven, at least six Scorpio placements. So I am very, very water. Water sign, water sign, water sign all day long, which means I love swimming and I love surfing. Surfing is actually something I started to do here in Lisbon. I'm really excited to get a little bit more into that in the summer. I think it's the closest thing I can get to snowboarding right now because I don't have access to any mountains with snow just yet. So I'm like, I will take waves. I know they're not the same thing, but um it's kind of my substitute for now. But yeah, I'm excited to kind of share all of that with you. And I do have a really fun goal for 2026. I want to learn how to mix music and I want to learn how to DJ. I don't think I want that as my career, but I do want to DJ in like a nightclub or at a fun event here in Lisbon this year. So we'll see in terms of trajectory how that's gonna go. But if not 2026, then 2027, here we come. But yeah, so stay tuned for that. I still haven't totally landed on my DJ name, but I think I want it to be so my cat, Jeremy, his middle name is Chanel. Jeremy Chanel Wong is his full name. So I think I want my DJ name to be DJ Jeremy Chanel, like JC for short. But I I will definitely share that in my journey along with all of you. So, what is my mission? What is my mission in life? What am I trying to do? I truly, truly believe that we can get to collective liberation, and that means that we will all be free across the board, you know, like as as they've always said, as as has always been said. None of us are free until we're all free. And that really is not just my mission in business, but just my mission in life. Like, truly, that's the legacy that I I want to impart on the world is collective liberation. So you will be hearing a lot about my thoughts on that in future episodes. And I really just want to help, gosh, as many people as I can find more ease in their life, in their daily life, find more time, find more freedom to live that Euro life. I'm still unlearning a lot of American tendencies, like my sense of urgency, which I have not unlearned yet. And here in Portugal, not a single person has a single fucking ounce of urgency in their bodies, like truly. Unless they're driving. If they're driving, then it's just me, me, me, me, me, like honking all the time. But in terms of like walking down the street in the store in their everyday lives, like they have not a single sense of urgency, and I want that for sure. So, what are we doing here? We are trying to help more people find that easeful, find that free and liberating and joyful life. Why? Why is that important, especially on the time front? I think I actually was just on an episode of Cubicle to CEO. Y'all should check it out. I will link it in the show notes where I talk about how in the last eight years I've I've reduced my time working by quite a bit. And I know all of you will probably want like a full episode dedicated to that. So I absolutely will be bringing you that. But I just think that we are so emphatic about tracking our money, tracking our financials, planning for projections and future and budget and da-da-da-da-da. And I think we forget that like time, time is money too, right? Our time is so, so valuable. We have a limited amount of it on this planet. So if we're tracking our money, why are we not also tracking our time? And that's kind of what I want to get into as well. Is like to me, true, true, true freedom is being able to shape our days literally however we want them to. Like I said earlier, I want to take a long lunch. I want to pack up and fly to Italy for the weekend. Those are things that I want to be able to do, and I want you to be able to do as well. So that's kind of what we're here for. I'm gonna talk about, you know, in in life ways and daily practices and all the things I mentioned in terms of mindset and the woo-woo, but also in business and how we can do that. Because I think what I've learned, if anything, here in Portugal and in Europe is that people here don't really work because they're passionate about working. They're literally working to get a paycheck, right? So that they can go and live their lives and go have long lunches and go have long dinners and be in the roof on the rooftop bars and drinking their wine and all that beautiful stuff. But they also really just I don't I don't think that's totally the right way either. And I also don't think the American way is the right way either. I think there's a balance and that we can we can live our lives to run our businesses and we can run our businesses to live our lives, and that it can be a give and take. And and I will definitely get into all of that soon. But yeah, I want to talk a little bit more beyond just business, beyond just like systematizing and templatizing things. I want to talk about the mindset work that it's taken. It's and respecting your energy each day. That's such a big thing for me. And and I talk a little bit more about that on the cubicle to CEO episode. So definitely go check that out. But then come back here and we're gonna talk a little bit more about less about the business and the systemizing and more about the energy, the mindset, the the more woo-woo work that that I did to get where I am today, which I will say is probably the healthiest I've been in my life on a physical level, on a mental level, on a mindset level, on a spiritual level. And I'm just really excited to continue to share that with all of you. In the last year, I've done a lot, like a lot of coaching. So, so, so much coaching. Arguably too much. I think if you ask my wealth mindset coach, Gillian Minter, she will probably tell you that I've had too many coaches in the last year. But I've done a lot of work. I'm, of course, nowhere near complete in terms of my journey. I think it's that's a lifelong thing. I don't think you're ever done, you're ever done learning, you're ever done healing, you're ever done improving and bettering yourself. But I do want to almost like pat myself on the back a little bit for the work that I've done in the last year in moving here, in living here and integrating into this new country, into this new city, into this new part of the world. And yeah, all of that, like moving away from scarcity and more towards abundance and moving away from forcing things and forcing a client relationship to alignment and attraction and getting more into that like feminine energy. I want to talk definitely more about that like masculine versus feminine energy and how there's a balance and and all that good stuff. But I really am excited to be tapping a little bit more into my feminine energy because I think for most of my life I've I've really tapped into that, the masculine energy, especially in business, especially in school, especially in like achieving my goals and and and pursuing them and all that good stuff. So yeah, I'm I'm excited to talk a little bit more about that as well and and really just trusting the universe to deliver what it is that I need. Again, if this if woo-woo is not for you, I don't think this podcast is for you. And that's okay. You can you can chime in and tune in for for the less woo-woo stuff, but I do think as with all things, there's there's a really good balance of of practical and sensible, and not not saying woo-woo isn't practical or sensible, but just more mainstream acceptable. I I really hate when people are like, oh, like the woo-woo, like dw, and they, and they shit on it, because frankly, that shit is real. I've seen it work, I know it's real. And if you don't agree, you can get the fuck out of here. You're gonna get a little bit more of the real authentic Kieran as we continue on in this podcast. I think in the beginning I was like, okay, I just want to like share a little bit more about who I am, but now we're getting into it. Okay, so if you don't like any of this shit, that's okay. I totally understand. You can go ahead and leave. Okay? All right. For those of you that are still here, I really hope that you enjoy this podcast, that you enjoy the many, many, many hot takes that I will have and will be sharing on here. And then I want to kind of open this dialogue with all of you. I know a podcast usually sounds like, oh, she's just right, broadcasting her voice, but I want you to share your thoughts with me too. And so we'll be we'll be posting, you know, clips on Instagram. You can always head to the YouTube and and leave your comments there as well. Let me know. Let me know what you think about the topics. There will be a very, very controversial, spicy topic in the next episode that I am thrilled to to share with you and to get your thoughts on. And just know that this is a dialogue that I'm trying to, it's the conversation club. It's not the Kieran shouts at you club. I mean, I know it kind of will sound like that sometimes, but I do, I do want this to be sort of a two-way street. And I want you to, I want you to do the work. You know, I know you're like, wait, wait, whoa, whoa. You're you were talking about yapping and now you want me to do work. I mean, I I kind of do. I kind of want you to come here and and take something away from these episodes, and I might give you a little homework at the end if you want to take it, take it. And if you want to leave it, leave it. And that's okay. When my amazing team was asking me, like, what do you want to do with this podcast? What it, what is your goal here? And I think the answer that that popped into my mind was really like, I want everyone who listens to this podcast to walk away with something that's gonna help them in their day and to walk away 1% better than they were before they listened to this to the episodes that they're listening to. So, you know, it's not a huge lofty goal, and it doesn't need to be this like transformative revelation that you get from every episode. But I do want you to feel a little more informed. I want you to consider things you might not have considered before. I want to consider things I might not have considered before and and might get into that with some of our future guests. But in the meantime, I I want you to really just think about what it is that you want that you want to get out of listening to this podcast, of your business, of your life, your mindset work, whatever it is. And please let me know. I want to know. I want to know what you're looking for, what I can talk about, because as you will learn, I could talk about virtually anything. So tell me your thoughts and um connect with me on Instagram at it's almost or you can email me your at it'salmost.com. But yeah, share with me any questions you have and definitely, definitely like what do you want to get out of your life? Get out of running your business, get out of email marketing, get out of just any anything that I mentioned in this episode. I want to serve you, I want to help you, and I will say episode two is very, very spicy. So I hope you continue to tune in and continue to enjoy this podcast. And thank you so much for being here, truly. All right, well, thank you, Yappers. I will see y'all very soon.
