When Work Feels Unfair

Scripture:
Psalm 73:3 — “For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”

Devotional:
Few things sting like watching others advance through dishonesty, favoritism, or manipulation while you labor with integrity. Promotions pass you by. Credit goes to someone else. Unjust decisions are made. Like the psalmist, you may wonder, Is it even worth doing what’s right?

Scripture doesn’t ignore this tension. Psalm 73 is an honest cry of someone who sees injustice and struggles with envy and confusion. Yet later in the psalm, he remembers that God sees everything and will ultimately judge rightly. Justice may be delayed, but it is not forgotten.

In an unfair workplace, your call is not to control outcomes, but to remain faithful. God cares about how you respond—whether you grow bitter or draw closer to Him. Your integrity is never wasted, even if people overlook it. The God who sees in secret will honor those who trust Him, in His time and His way.

Reflection Questions:

Where do you feel treated unfairly in your work right now?
How are those experiences affecting your heart—toward God and toward others?
What would it look like to entrust those injustices to God while still acting wisely?

Prayer:
Lord, You see every injustice I face. Guard my heart from bitterness and envy. Help me remain faithful and honorable, trusting that You are just and that You will make all things right. Amen.
