When You Feel Overlooked

Scripture:
Psalm 31:15 — “My times are in Your hand…”

Devotional:
Being passed over—for a promotion, opportunity, project, or recognition—can be deeply painful. You may feel invisible, unappreciated, or stuck. In those moments, it’s easy to question your value and wonder if your work matters at all.

But Scripture reminds you that your times are in God’s hand—not in the hands of managers, committees, or circumstances. He sees the work others overlook. He knows the opportunities you didn’t receive and the doors that didn’t open. He is not indifferent to your disappointment.

Sometimes God protects you from opportunities that aren’t right. Sometimes He is preparing you for something that requires deeper growth first. And sometimes He calls you to remain faithful in a hidden place for longer than you’d like. In each case, His timing is wiser than ours.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where have you recently felt overlooked or passed by at work?
  2. How have those experiences affected your trust in God’s timing?
  3. What does it look like to remain faithful, even when recognition doesn’t come?

Prayer:
Lord, You know the times I feel unseen and overlooked. Help me trust that my times are in Your hand. Teach me to be faithful where I am, believing that You are at work in ways I can’t yet see. Amen.
