Handling Criticism Without Crumbling

Scripture:
Proverbs 12:1 — “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.”

Devotional:
Criticism at work can sting—especially when it feels unfair or is delivered harshly. Yet Scripture says those who love correction are wise. In a fallen world, feedback will come imperfectly, but it can still be a tool God uses to grow you.

There are two dangers: rejecting all criticism or absorbing all criticism. Rejecting it blinds you to areas where you need growth. Absorbing it unfiltered can crush your confidence and identity. The gospel offers a third way: you are secure in Christ, so you can humbly examine feedback without being destroyed by it.

Ask, “Is there any truth here I need to receive?” If so, learn and adjust. If not, you can release unfair parts to God, knowing He is your ultimate Judge. Your worth is not based on performance reviews but on the finished work of Jesus. From that place of security, you are free to grow.

Is there recent feedback you need to revisit with humility and discernment?
How does your identity in Christ help you handle correction more wisely?

Prayer:
Father, thank You that my identity is secure in Christ. Help me receive correction with humility and wisdom. Show me what is true, help me grow, and give me peace to release what is unfair. Amen.
