When You’re Misunderstood

Scripture:
Psalm 139:1 — “O Lord, You have searched me and known me!”

Devotional:
Few things are as discouraging as being misunderstood at work—your motives questioned, your words twisted, or your actions misread. You may try to explain yourself, but people still don’t see your heart. That can leave you feeling isolated, frustrated, or unfairly judged.

In those moments, it’s comforting to remember there is One who understands you perfectly. God has “searched” you and knows you—your intentions, your fears, your efforts, and your desire to honor Him. He sees the conversations others didn’t hear, the context they don’t know, and the motives they can’t discern.

This doesn’t mean you stop listening to feedback or refuse correction. But it does mean you’re not crushed when others don’t fully “get” you. Your ultimate security rests not in being perfectly understood by people, but in being perfectly known and loved by God.

Reflection Questions:

Where do you feel misunderstood or misjudged at work right now?
How can remembering that God fully knows you bring comfort and stability?
Is there anyone you may have misunderstood and need to listen to more carefully?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for knowing me completely. When I feel misunderstood, remind me that I am fully seen and loved by You. Help me respond with humility, patience, and grace. Amen.
